Well, since nearly every rational argument (and quite a few irrational arguments) have been presented, my thoughts will bring absolutly nothing new to the conversation...but, hey, that is just the kind of guy that I am! I think that that people tend to be more prejudice then racist these days. Sure, there are those fanatic neo-confederats, and the coalition of Al Sharpden worshipers but, for the main part everyone has a type of person that they discriminate against for one reason or another. Some loose examples would be the hatred among goths and preps; Rednecks have never meshed with Gang Bangers; and those hyper, neurotic northerners will always stereotype southerners as slow-witted country bumpkins. Personally I am prejudiced against people with uni-brows and people with really bad teeth. Thats the great thing about being a prejudice person as opposed to a racist person. You can really narrow the hatred down and focus towards those mundane and trivial things you hate about a set group...

Anime What's the longest you've gone without anime?
Heaven's Cloud replied to Moor_Child's topic in Otaku Central
Well, I guess I could go the rest of my life without watching anime if I had to. Fortunately I have a DVD player and I own quite a few anime titles, so if I do have the desire I can load one in at any time? -

Both were very different experiences. I had some great teachers in High School, and I enjoyed having very few responsibilities. My only real responsibility was homework, my summer job, and after school sports. I hated the social scene that plagued my High School. Like most High Schools, mine was very ?clique-ish?, and I had friends within every social group. I am a pretty independent person, and it always seemed to me that I had friends that tried to tell me who to and not to hang out with? College was entirely different. My school wasn?t huge (about 9000 students) but there was a big enough crowd that you didn?t have to see the same people day in and day out. My first two years were great, I loved the whole party scene and I really enjoyed my classes. After I got my DUI everything changed. My parents stripped me of all my financial backing so I had to work full time just to put myself through school (my parents made to much money for me to qualify for financial aide, but they refused to sign papers to help me get a loan). My last few years of school sucked, I was always tired and I was always working? I did really like college though, I plan on going back and getting my master?s degree during the spring semester?it?ll give me something to do during my spare time.

Heh, I think this may make quite a few people upset, but right now pop=punk....with so many punk bands lighting up the pop charts right now boy bands are moving over and letting the punks take over. When any type of music develops a huge fan basis it enters the realm of pop. As for Avril Levine...I don't think she is trying to be anything like Briitnay Spears nor do I think she is trying to be punk. It would be more correct to classify her with Michelle Branch and Vanessa Carlton...

Anime What Anime has the best opening theme?
Heaven's Cloud replied to Lone Bebop's topic in Otaku Central
That isn't even a difficult question. "Tank" is obviously my favorite opening theme to any anime, or tv series, ever. Music is such a large part of the Cowboy Bebop series and Yoko Kano did an amazing job capturing the mood of the anime in a single composition. The only other anime opening song that I think is even half way decent is the opening of Hellsing, although I am at a loss for its title...It does a decent job setting the mood for the show. Usually I find the music for anime to be horrible...I have absolutly why people like the music to Trigun and .hack. -
I have absolutly no idea why people want to move overseas to Japan, an over populated tiny country where the majority of people look down on you, when can just move to NYC...an over populated city where the majority of people look down on you, and avoid having to apply for a visa. From St. Louis to Tokyo and Back Again: A Dream
Heaven's Cloud replied to Cocomi Myojin's topic in General Discussion
Good luck...You better have a job waiting for you in Japan, like Wrist Cutter wrote, it is nearly impossible to get citizenship... Why don't you attempt creating a cartoon in the US? If you are good it shouldn't matter where you live... -
Is it possible to find their stuff at music stores, or are they pretty obscure? What three albums would you recommend? I'm interested checking out this band, they sound like the type of punk band that I really enjoy...so I'd appreciate any info.

I probably have 120-130 or so CDs that I listen to regularly and fifteen to twenty ripped CD's (mostly bootlegged songs). I have at least another hundred CD's that I don't ever listen to and seven or eight box sets that I bought just to have.

Or shall I walk away leaving the task to another moderator? Nah! I'm closing this bad boy ~HC, your friendly neighborhood Shakespearen uninspired mod
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel  I love you wrist cutter. In any case... I'd like to know how much experience you two have (Valen and broli) on these things. Just curious.
I second the love for Wrist Cutter...that was funny stuff... According to their profiles, ssjbrolli is 16 and Valen is 14...which means that on the relationship meter their experience level is slightly above nil. Edit: Sorry Valen is 15...nearly 16...which raises their experience to...just slightly above nil. Don't get me wrong, your advice is every bit as good as, if not better than, my advice for every one that has requested relationship advice in this thread (which is: Shoot yourself in the head!)

Time in Dimensional Terms (Theories Inside)
Heaven's Cloud replied to Corey's topic in General Discussion
Originally posted by KnightOfTheRose Heaven's Cloud, if you visualize time as a bowl then it seems possible to have time stop and then move backward. Like so,
If you visualize time as an infinitely large bowl, and an object moving through time as a marble dropped along the edge of the bowl, the marble would slowly spiral around and down towards the center of the bowl (therefore supposedly simulating the curvature of time). If the bowl is infinitely large then it has no defined center, therefore, so stopping point. However, if the ball reaches a certain point of acceleration, it will continue to spiral around a fixed axis and cease to progress farther down the bowl, thereby halting time. If the marble was to accelerate even faster it would gradually start moving towards the lip of the bowl, illustrating how acceleration could possibly lead to traveling backwards through time. Hope that clarifys what I was attempting to explain earlier. -

Time in Dimensional Terms (Theories Inside)
Heaven's Cloud replied to Corey's topic in General Discussion
Although I have very little scientific inclination, I thought that some tidbits of info that I have picked up here and there may lend to this discussion. It is my understanding that tachyon particals are a proven scientific threory and exist, or are a part of (or however you want to group it) the third dimension. Since they travel faster then light, and to my understanding faster then the concept linear of time, I am led to the assumption that time is relative within the third dimension. If you view time as an infinitly large bowl, rather than a linear progression, you can visualize how acceleration could be the key to time travel, or at least the key to faster space travel. Obviously this is just some brief speculations that I have made...but I don't understand physics enough to truly add to this discussion. -
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel This isn't about an anime being perfect. Everything has flaws. I'm just not seeing what makes this something that is apparently well above average in the eyes of a good deal of people here. I go from Trigun to Cowboy Bebop and it's like going from a pile of dog crap to the ambrosia of the gods. I just don't get what is so special about this show.
I really don't think too highly of Trigun either. I have seen every episode, and I really don't think that the final episodes are that great. Legato was an interesting charecter, but his presence does not make the whole series worthwhile. I think that they did a horrible job with plot and charecter development. My main problem lies with the charecter of Vash. I would have enjoyed the story line better if Vash had been a monster at one point in time, or at least had a bit more of a checkered past. Besides that, it seems like the charecters all develop or grow in one pivotal episode...I really hate that.
Originally posted by IloveBebop That's sort of an unfair judgement. You don't even know us, yet you put a label on us like you're the judge of how people are.
I am not the judge of how people are, but I do judge people by the quality and poignency of their posts. The five previous posts between you and EdtheHackerGirl had absolutly no relevency to this topic and are considered spam. If you read the forum rules or, at very least, the sticky threads at the top of this forum you would be familiar with these rules. Therefore, my judgement wasn't unfair. You two caused this topic to digress by posting meaningless prattle, and you need to try a bit harder when you post from now on.

dream theater (and im not talking about dream street)
Heaven's Cloud replied to nkid99's topic in Noosphere
My buddy and I both think that bands like Tool and Dream Theater are very similar to Pink Floyd, more people will appreciate them 15 years from now. But I definatly agree with good ole Semjaza, check out Dream Theater, they are a really cool band with insane instrumentals. -
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel Listen to the last several minutes of The Great Debate (it's a 13 minute song) and tell me that Petrucci isn't one of the best guitarists you've ever heard. You can't.
The Great Debate is a killer song. I have always liked the musical aspect of Dream Theater...actually I really used to like listening to them stoned back in my "Head" days. I guess that my favorite song is "Hollow Years" of off Falling Into Infinity but all of the Albums of theirs that I have heard are pretty solid...
