Rented Final Fantasy XIII and took it back yesterday. I got up to where
everyone's branded a l'cie...I think...the terminology of this game confused the heck out of me
. It was...okay, from what I played. I've seen repeated time and time again that the 25 hour mark, when everything stops being so darn linear, is when everything improves massively, and I believe them, but I just dunno if I have the patience to get there right now. Maybe I'll rent it again later and try a little bit more, but as of right now, I'm not really in a big hurry. Resumed my Megaman Legends 2 replay the other day. I'm currently close to the end of the Calinca Ruins, in the one big snowy room where you have to chase those friggin keys while avoiding those stupid reaverbots that simultaneously paralyze and give you a gnarly case of frostbite by merely touching them, as well as that one giant reaverbot that shoots missiles at you. It's not very fun. Game's awesome otherwise, better than its predecessor [which is also very awesome]. I'm thinking about replaying Megaman Legends/64 as well; I started a new game on it some months ago and didn't do much with it. I know it like the back of my hand, so I wonder how quickly I'll finish it. Oh! Also randomly decided to replay Phoenix Wright/Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations the other day. Playing through case two right now. And yeesh, Luke Atmey is such an annoyingly large ham. How the heck I liked him before, I have no idea. [Although he does have his weird charm about him...]

You get the Enigma Stone over the Nintendo WFC, take it to Steven at the Pewter City museum, and it'll allow you to get Latios [HG] or Latias [SS]. It's at level 40, and will stay in front of the museum until you defeat it or catch it, so you don't have to worry about it taking off like its sibling.

Well, Sinnoh had two resort areas [the one around one of the lakes and the one aptly titled the Resort Area], so he could very well be for something like that. Or, as you said, the Pokemon Musical contests. Some are also speculating that he's related to N, given the green hair, and/or he works for him in some fashion [since a popular speculation right now is that N is the one being crowned in the opening sequence]. I thought that too, but the screenshot didn't look much like a gym to me. One of my friends speculated that the room looked like a museum, or one of the Pokemon academies that are in every gen. Maybe you actually get to battle one of those teachers for once? I know the Gym Leaders have rather colorful wardrobes, but the apron just screams "HI I'M YOUR MOM" to me. Maybe you can battle your mom? XD ...that'd be awesome... I dunno; she could be anything from a gym leader to a Team Plasma admin, but I just find the idea of her being your adoptive mother kinda cool.

But in all seriousness, kiddo...trying to emulate a fictional television show, regardless of how grounded it may be in reality, to pursue love is generally a really bad idea. I can see it's not really done you a lick of good, and has started to wear out the rest of OB's users trying to give legitimate advice. Man up and ask her out. Dragging it out will only make it hurt worse in the long run.

Well, I finally got the opportunity to rent this game last night. I'm still on chapter 1, so I'm not sure what I can say about it and my opinion be a valid one. But my thoughts so far: -- The battle system is...okay. It's not particularly mind-blowing, but there's far worse, too. Although I'm sure I've only seen a fraction of what it's capable of, so. -- Goes without saying, but augh this game is so pretty. I could stare at it for days. There's a definite difference between seeing screenshots and video, and seeing the game up close. -- I don't really know the characters that well so far, but I like them all already. All of that's subject to change, though, as love/hate for a character can switch very easily, depending on what happens. -- Music's quite a treat, even if Uematsu's not been on board for some time. There's already a handful of tracks I already like. But yeah, that's about it for right now. As I said, I'm not too terribly far yet, so I still have quite a ways to go.

Lots of new info came out last night. Highlights: - A rather adorable deer-like Pokemon. I strongly suspect that it could be a Stantler pre-evo. - An evolved form of the deranged chipmunk/woodchuck, apparently a meerkat-like Pokemon. - A swan-like Pokemon. - A trainer named Aroe, noteworthy because they're African-American, which is rather rare in anime and video games. - We now know the crime syndicate of the region, Team Plasma...which is probably one of the stupidest and least-threatening names I've ever heard. [s]Hopefully they won't have the atrocious fashion sense of Team Galactic[/s] what is this i dont even It looks like they're going for the medieval knight look, but it just looks goofy... Manga U.S. & Japan Bring Down the Banhammer on Pirates
Sangome replied to Kei's topic in Otaku Central
Again I point out that not all manga fans outside of Japan are American, buying a single volume of any popular shounen manga, not to mention some of the seinen ones I read are a minimum of £10/12.50, which is roughly $15 or so dollars. I don't have any objections to supporting the industry financially, but I refuse to be ripped off doing so.
Sorry, I wasn't trying to imply that all anime/manga fans are in the U.S. I was just speaking as an American anime fan, since the mass majority of complainers I've seen are [I assume] American and are absolutely stubborn when it comes to this sort of thing [i.e. claiming to love the industry but not raising a finger to support it financially]. I'm also not saying that people that don't buy them don't have their reasons [what you described being what I had in mind], but I'm just a bit jaded/jetlagged from the people that have the means, but they're just THAT cheap.
Personally rather than issuing a cease and desist order to OneManga I truly wish one company had had the sense to attempt to go into legal partnership to supply the manga to an obviously very popular site with fans.
While I understand your point, I just need to point out that OneManga was not issued a C&D -- they did this of their own accord. Granted, it was because of the looming threat of legal action, but still. But that's just me being nitpicky.
I beleive it's a good thing. Honestly, if it IS popular in Japan, odds are, if they dub it into english with GOOD voice actors, then it will probably do well over here too. And even if it doesn't, they'll make enough money off of it to cover the expense of doing so.
Well, I wish them luck in dubbing pages of a manga. -
"THIS MAN HAS ACTED IN A HIGH-GROSSING, FANGIRL-SQUEE-INDUCING MOVIE THAT I DISLIKE! THAT MEANS HE'S NEVER ALLOWED TO ACT IN ANYTHING ELSE EVER AGAIN!!!!!" In all seriousness, while I'm by no means a fan of Twilight, nor have I seen How To Train Your Dragon, he can act in whatever he wants. He's proven himself to be an ally to the Twilight haters, going on record several times saying that the story is absolute rubbish, and that he was in it for the money [and to star opposite Kristen Stewart]. So...I don't think it's any big deal.

Manga U.S. & Japan Bring Down the Banhammer on Pirates
Sangome replied to Kei's topic in Otaku Central
Y'know, while I sympathize with those that went to the site for unlicensed material, what do you think the majority of people went there for? They went there for the newest chapters of Bleach, One Piece, Naruto, and Fullmetal Alchemist [when it was running], all of which are licensed, and the first three, if I'm not mistaken, are actually pretty cheap by manga standards [$8-$9 USD, though I dunno if that's changed or not]. I doubt anyone honestly thinks that this will stamp out piracy singlehandedly. If I remember correctly, it's not just the American distributors behind this, but the original Japanese publishers, as well. I don't know how Japanese copyright works [if doujinshi being commonly sold is any indication, then it's probably not very strict], but obviously, they find a problem with it, too. So...take that as you will. And who says that manga companies aren't planning something along the lines of Funimation or Crunchyroll? These "morons" could have something planned, and are simply not mentioning it yet. Whether that's a good strategy is up for debate, but until then, give it time. I'm not gonna lie and say that I haven't used OneManga in the past, I have, but I do think this is the right direction. It won't singlehandedly change things, but it'll certainly help.
I don't really care one way or another. It just strikes me as funny that you don't see Hollywood ing about pirated movies and music and here these people are, a smaller industry compared to Hollywood, trying to track down all their crap. I don't really think much will change.
In addition to what Kei said, don't you think that might be why they're doing this? They're smaller, and therefore, the risk of losing ton of money is a very real possibility for them. -
I'm with Red on the desire for a third Megaman Legends. The series is so underrated, but filled with an extremely interesting plot, universe, and amazing characters. On the one hand, though, I wouldn't want it to be milked to death like the other games in the Megaman franchise...but on the other hand, if it's Legends, I just might not mind.

So after bumming around for a few days after having to take Tree of Tranquility back to the video store, and hearing word that Keiji Inafune could possibly be hinting at the long-awaited Legends 3, I decided to fire up Megaman Legends 2 yesterday. I've been a huge fan of this series for the past decade now, having played the heck out of the first game [the N64 port, specifically, although I want to get my hands on the original PSX version someday]. However, I only ever played through the second game once, and even then, I didn't beat it...so here we go. And y'know...as much as I adore the first game, the second game really trounces it in just about every way. The story, environment, gameplay, graphics [to an extent] are all massively improved on. It's really impressive how much of a leap they made. Anyhow, I just finished a rather tedious multi-part boss fight that required me to hop from Nino Island to Carlbania Island. I've come to dislike Glyde intensely in this timespan, but not as much as his Birdbots. Seriously. They suck. Servbots >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Birdbots, all the way. Next up's the Nino ruins, and from what I can remember, it's...very, very annoying, being on par with most of Zelda's Water Temples. [Fitting, since this is a water-based ruin!] I'll tackle that next time.

Can't say I watch a whole lot of anime anymore [ironic, ain't it], but I definitely have some series that need more love. Kannagi: Despite the crazy viral promotion Bandai did with this series on ANN, and hyping the fact that they licensed it and had it go on sale the very next day at AX last year [although I think it really got licensed when the English version of the Nagi fan club went online], as well as the fact that otakus in Japan raged over the manga for really stupid reasons, I've not really heard a lot of people comment on this series. It's a fun, goofy romp [sans the next to the last episode...] that I think a lot more people should give a chance. Kure-nai: This is something that really needs to get licensed ASAP. One thing that really drew me in was the art -- it was so vivid, alive, and fluid. The show felt less like an anime and more like...well, I can't really describe it. Maybe because it escaped most stereotypical anime tropes, but the whole thing was just an utter joy to watch. Seriously, Funi, Bandai, Media Blasters...somebody license this. And I completely agree with .hack, though I've only seen SIGN and played most of the G.U. games. Awesome series.
