1.
I wanted to make a thread completly divoted to Gears of War 2, which in my opinion is going to probably going to shadow the other shooters that have and will come out the rest of the year. I'm actually taking the day off of work on Friday to A) pickup my copy from gamestop at midnight, and B) start playing online asap. Are there any UK members out there getting this game when it comes out? If so I was hoping you could give us a little post after you pick it up to tell us what its like.
I've been playing GoW2 for 3 weeks now, my friend has a leaked copy of the game, I don't like piracy but at least he's buying the game at launch (mostly because he can't play it online or he will get banned) I haven't played the single player mode as I don't want to spoil it for myself, but we have played horde mode quite extensively, on 4 player it is a complete riot, especially on insane mode. I'll be there at the midnight launch to get it.
2. Resident Evil Outbreak was a huge disappointment, the Euro version didn't even have online mode. Metalcore, Left 4 Dead is a primarily online game, there is a single player mode but it is somewhat.....lacking. You can have up to 8 player's online, 4 on the human side who are trying to escape, when a human gets knocked down by a zombie they must be revived by their teammate before they are killed for good. You then have 4 player's on the zombie side that get to choose to become 1 of 3 super zombies, have infinite respawns, and always know where the humans are. These zombies are..... Boomer - Boomers are bit fat zombies, they are able to vomit onto player's which does 2 things, blinding the player and attracting swarms of zombies towards that player. Boomer's also explode when killed, if the blood from the explosion hits you then the zombie swarms will be coming for you. Hunter - Hunter's can jump over rooftops and climb walls, they also have a special "pounce" ability. They used to be able to stealth if they stood in 1 spot for a few seconds (you'd still be able to hear them growling) but I hear this has been taken out of L4D. Smoker - Uses it's really long tongue as a weapon to drag humans towards it or to hang humans if it is stood somewhere over them like a rooftop. Also able to distort human vision using it's black smoke ability. During every stage there are a few instance's when a zombie player is selected to become a special super zombie, you will only see this super zombie a few times per map. The Tank - Look's like a huge muscular gorilla, it has a LOT of health and does a lot of damage, in addition it is able to fling large item's such as cars and concrete. The tank has some sort of "rage" meter where it has to fight the survivors asap, if the meter fill's up and you still haven't fought the survivors then you lose control of the tank. There is 1 more super zombie, though this one cannot be player controlled, there is usually 1 per map. The Witch - You can usually hear her crying which is a huge warning sign, if your careful you can walk right past her, she will only engage you if you shine your flashlight at her, make physical contact, or through loud sound such as gunfire. Witches are the most powerful zombies in the game. As fun as the zombie's sound, human's are the way to properly experience this game.
3.
Gears of War 2 came out? :animedepr You are very wise, sir. I played very little of the CoD series, despite my love for WW2 You know, I think I heard about that, way, way back in an old Game Informer issue. It involves zombies, right?
Gears of War 2 isn't out until next week, my friend has had a leaked copy for about 3 weeks now and we've played the hell out of it. Fortunately he is going to buy the game at release (Mostly because he can't play his leaked version online). I will buy the Limited Edition version on release, local game store is having a midnight launch for it. CoD 4 is arguably the best of the CoD series, closely followed by 2, both we're done by Infinity Ward. CoD 5 is being done by the people who made the horrible CoD 3 so I wasn't expecting much from them, and judging from beta test players my fears have been confirmed. Left 4 Dead is a PC/360 game being released towards the end of November in Europe (USA gets it in 1-2 weeks, I forget the exact date), it runs using the STEAM engine and is online only. The game is a team based shooter, the setting is basically a city gets infected by a zombie virus and the 4 human controlled players must escape. While trying to escape you are constantly being chased by swarms of zombies, the fast kind like from 28 days later. These zombies will jump out of windows, climb up fences, break through doors, just to get to you, it's really intense and damn scary. 4 players control the human survivors trying to escape, and 4 players control special "super zombies" on the zombie side, super zombies can always respawn when killed and they always know where the humans are. Also worth adding that the game is split into several maps, and no 2 playthrough's are ever the same because of a special game ai which spawns zombies in locations etc as well as ammo depending on how well/badly your doing. There's so much more I can say about the game, for now I'll just leave it at that, also here's a link to some gameplay footage, may not be suitable for minors as it has excess gore and swearing. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/39530.html First thing I'm going to do when I buy this game is go online and join a game, pick human side and get ready to be scared senseless, lol.
4. I have played GoW2 quite extensively, and it is a great game. 4 Player horde mode on Insane difficulty is complete mayhem. I wouldn't really class Fallout 3 as a shooter CoD 5, I have a few friends who extensively tested the beta, they have all cancelled their preorder's of the game, they said it was "ok" at best and not worth shelling out $60/£40, I guess we will have to wait for CoD 6 which is being done by Infinity Ward One shooter worth mentioning is Left 4 Dead on PC/360, I've been following it for almost 2 years now and in my opinion it is a very strong contender for game of the year
5. I picked up Fallout 3 today, and before I knew it 8 hours had passed This is a truly brilliant game, I'm just having so much fun exploring and doing side quests, I've barely even touched the main quest. When you see the world for the first time the graphics are truly jaw dropping in HD. Everything is high quality, from the sound and music, down to the presentation. I'm completely in love with the atmosphere. I haven't played the previous Fallout games, I'll probably pick them up sometime in the future, so I can't really make any comparisons between Fallout 3 and the previous games. Matt, you are entitled to your opinion and I respect that. I myself didn't like Oblivion when everyone else did, I really tried to get into it but after a few hours I felt like bashing my head against the wall.
6.
I have one question on it - how is its length? I would not mind at all jumping into another FPS, but I would want it to be a reasonably long one. Sure, something as long as Half-Life would be great, but FPS that long are a rarity. Is there anything else you can tell us about it? I have heard very little about it - in fact, all I know is that there is a comic, and its developed by EA.
Sadly the game is a little short, but it is certainly a game worth experiencing, HDTV, lights off, surround sound system or headphones, and prepare to get the crap scared out of you. The atmosphere and scare/panic factor in those conditions is really quite amazing.
7.
I need to say it, but it has to be said. This game is not Fallout. It is just a shooter trying to be an rpg. Just because it has the title Fallout in it does not make it one. No choices and consequences? Poorly written dialogue? Slowmo for every shot with the VATS? Everything being solved with only violence? This is not Fallout. This is just Oblivion with Guns - and that is the highest criticism I can give to any game. This game is horrible. Just, bad. Really, really, bad. Lrb, go to Gog.com and go buy Fallout 1 and 2 for $12. A much better purchase than the $60 you would spend on this pretty piece of trash. And before I go: For the Codex!
Strange, I think this is the only negative comment I have read for Fallout 3, everyone else seems to be going nuts over it. I'll pick up my copy later today during my lunch break, I'm not sure whether to get the 360 version or the PS3 version though, from online screen comparisons it seems to look better on 360, it actually looks best on PC but my PC isn't quite monstrous enough
8. I've finally got the Big Boss rank :D http://c.imagehost.org/0802/DSC00002.jpg Though to be honest the extreme mode in this version was easier than previous MGS games, probably because they had an even harder version (European Extreme) Ok, my thoughts on MGS4 and MGO First of all I am a huge MGS nut, waiting for this game to be released was torture for me and I was the first person on the day of release waiting outside the store for the midnight opening This game has not disappointed me at all, I loved every second of the 18 hours it took me to complete it the first time round. I was genuinly interested in ALMOST every cutscene in the game and was happy with most of the long running questions in the series that finally get answered The ending probably couldn't have been any better for me, mainly because
I'm a huge Big Boss fan, and him dying had a bigger impact on me, I actually shed some tears :( Also it was really sad that Ocelot was actually a good guy all along, and even though you don't actually see Snake die, you know he only has a few months to live before he dies because of his accelerated ageing
If your a fan of the series, you will absolutely love MGS4, if you haven't gotten into the series and are thinking of getting this game then I recommend that you either start with MGS The Twin Snakes on the Gamecube, if you like it then carry on and play MGS2 and MGS3 before playing MGS4 as the games are fun and you'll get a better understanding of the story since MGS4 won't be any fun if you don't know whats going on most of the time because of the story. If you want to play MGS4 without playing the earlier games then you should probably read up on the story on wikipedia or something before hand or you will be extremely confused during the game. Regarding MGO.... I've racked up about 20 hours or so at the moment, I've made a clan called Aeris Dies lol, with some friends from real life. The game is......fun, I wouldn't really take it too seriously though as it has some problems. The main problem it has had since the beta, and that is the problem with headshots. They are insanely easy to get and that is mainly because of the huge area that constitutes a headshot, I have been shot in the shoulder and it has classed it as a headshot. The weapons are also extremely unbalanced, using LVL 3 Shotgun mastery I can sneak up on an opponent, shoot him at point blank range, and it will take 2, usually 3 shots to kill him, during which most of the time they will turn around and headshot you before you can kill them I also have LVL 3 CQC and LVL3 Blades. With LVL3 CQC you do a lot more damage from slamming them to the ground and you choke them out much faster, and you can also disarm them of their weapon. With LVL3 Blades you can slit their throat providing you have LVL1 CQC. LVL3 Blades is fun as hell The best mode is undoubtedly SNEAKING mode, it really is a unique experience and it's extremely fun. Especially should you get lucky and get the chance to play Snake (Determining who gets to play Snake for the round is completely random) Overall MGO is fun, especially when you start to mess around with CQC, it has some problems but hopefully they should be fixed in the future
9. I really want to watch this film, been looking forward to it for a while now Unfortunately it's not out in England until February 1st
10. I'm still reading Hajime No Ippo, think it's on volume 83 now? Latest chapter was a massive disappointment after the huge buildup it had, but it's still my favourite manga ever by a mile
11. 1) What is your element of power? Sheer Willpower 2) Who taught you how to ride a bike? My Uncle When do we eat? I was hoping you could tell me!
12. James and Charles keep me locked up in a basement, I can't leave even if I wanted to :(
13. I play Tekken (www.tekkenzaibatsu.com) competetively and there is a huge community behind it. I travel to a lot of tournaments abroad (been to most of europe and been to the US once) Hylian, I wen't to Evo 2004 (Daigo with the FULL parry!) and placed.....7th I think, for Tekken 4 I've won and placed top 3 in quite a lot of tournament's so I would think I'm pretty good at the game now ^^ Reason I'm so into the tekken scene is because Tekken is a highly skilled game at top level and I enjoy putting my skills to the test with other people, and seeing what different styles of play people have from around the world, not to mention the people in the community are usually really funny and great to hang out with
14. I didn't really like FF3, not only was the story boring but it had really stupid difficulty spikes, I am looking forward to FF4 being remade in the same ilk though. If FF6 gets remade that would be awesome :D
15. As long as they look human, people can be attracted to them, I remember back in the day a lot of people had a thing for Jessica Rabbit, and way before that Betty Boop (I'm not THAT old  )
16.
Aw crap, my fault Sephiroth, can you repost or re-edit your post again. I thought I clicked reply with a quote and instead clicked the edit function. Wifi, that's being able to play games online right? I can't speak for everyone, but I'm one of those who don't play games online. As far as your other question (which I edited by accident.... *curls in a corner*) I always thought the ps3 wasn't backwards compatable. (Since that's what I was always told) I never heard people talking about it's backwards compatability.
Wifi is being able to play games online wirelessly The PS3 is backwards compatable with the PS2, though limited, not all games will work and there are websites scattered around that lists what games will and wont work I was just wondering if anyone knew of a website that had a list of which Japanese PS2 games will work on a Japanese PS3, there are some Japanese PS2 game's I really want to get like Hokuto No Ken but need to find out if they will work on my PS3 before I order Madhatter, I just wouldn't bother purchasing a 20GB model, you get a lot more space with the 60GB model as well as it being Wifi, you might not play games online now but in the future you might As far as the PS3 goes I don't recommend people to buy one just yet, it's not the fact that they are expensive, there are just no good games out at the moment, and I doubt there will be any until winter this year, by then there will be christmas sales, so I would personally just wait
17. I can't understand why people would even want the 20GB version since it doesn't have wi-fi (I have the 60GB version, complete god send :D )
18.
You do realise that the same could be said for the majority of drugs?
I used cannabis as an example because more people see it as a casual thing, or do you mean people can enjoy most drugs in moderation? If so then I strongly disagree
19. A classic thread such as this deserves to be resurrected, it would be criminal not to I like black cotton socks, can't ever go wrong with it, comfortable and goes with almost anything! I currently enjoy ankle length socks! This ankle sock addiction began a few year's ago when I went to the US I don't like the white wooly socks I used to wear as a kid though, especially during sports, my feet used to get way too sweaty (too much info?) Before I forget, shoutouts to any old OB member's who still remember me  (Yes, I realise I probably released something unholy on OB by resurrecting this thread :( )
20. I'm not sure if they do this in the US (I'm assuming that's where your from) but here in the UK you can apply for a government grant which pay's for all the fee's, though it depend's on circumstance, you can't get it if you are working for example
21. 1. Hajime No Ippo (known as Fighting Spirit outside Japan) I can't get enough of it, 76 episodes, a movie, and an ova. The manga is still ongoing and the brilliance of the series still continues 18 year's on. The story line, character's, character development, action scene's, everything about it is just perfect. The show follow's the boxing career of Makunouchi Ippo, picked on up until high school, a chance encounter with a boxer named Takamura changes Ippo's life completely. Most people are skeptical about the series since it's about boxing, I was at first also, but after watching a few episodes I was completely hooked, well worth getting into. For more information feel free to check out http://www.dynamiteglove.com/index2.shtml 2. GunGrave I liked the video game so I was looking forward to this title, and it definately exceeded expectations. It is only 26 episodes long but from start to finish the show is pure bliss, and the ending is simply amazing. Here is a short summary of the series http://www.7milesdown.com/wp/?p=98 3. Great Teacher Onizuka This is just pure comedy genius (the manga even more so) and had me in hysterics the whole way through, not to mention it actually has character development! Something I didn't expect the first time upon reading the synopsis. Check it out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Teacher_Onizuka Number 4 has been said by numerous people so I'll just simply list it 4. One Piece 5. Eyeshield 21 Unfortunately the anime version is pretty butchered compared to the manga but it's still good. I've never had any interest in American Football but I still found this series quite enjoyable, it's mostly comedy and there isn't really much character development. To find out more check out http://www.deimonhigh.com/
22. There's quite a lot of stuff so I'll just break it into the top 5 :D Rude Vegetarians - I'm a pretty open minded person, if someone chooses to become a vegetarian then I respect that, and I expect the same in return. Unfortunately every now and then you have the "extremists" as I like to call them, the one's that lecture you everytime your about to eat some meat, telling me how wrong it is to eat meat, etc. The Bus - I usually drive but every now and then I have to catch......the dreaded bus. Usually we are packed into it like sardines, the floors are covered with gum, someone is smoking (sometimes drugs) and worst of all are the schoolkids who take out their phone's and start playing rubbish R&B songs! People who don't cover their mouth when they cough or sneeze, it's common sense and it's just nasty When there's a queue at the supermarket checkout, you finally get near the front, the person in front of you only has 1 or 2 item's, you should be out in no time right? Wrong, no sooner than they get to the counter that they whip out their credit card or cheque book, rage!!!! Now the following grinds my gears the most, fortunately it only happens to a minority of people, unfortunately I am one of them. Airports - To be more specific, airport customs. The reason being is that my country of birth is Iraq, and ever since 9/11, I have always, ALWAYS, been stopped at customs and had to answer questions, get by bags searched, etc. etc. which I'm sure many people will agree can be really irritating. A bunch of friends and I wen't to Paris, France recently by coach, at dover I only got stopped for like 5 mins at customs, but unfortunately on the way back I got stopped for well over an hour :(
23. If it's drugs then no, definately not. Even cannabis can have an effect on you through long term effects, even if it is in moderation. Alcohol is something thats different for everyone, it all depends on whether or not you can handle your drink, if you drink in moderation then it's abolutely fine, still fine even if you let loose once in a while, what isn't fine is what your behaviour is like after a certain limit. Can you trust yourself when your drunk? I used to go out drinking almost every weekend, I enjoyed myself and rarely ever did anything stupid (rarely being the key word :P ) but because of changes in circumstance over the years I've had to reduce it to maybe going out drinking once a month. As long as you don't abuse it, alcohol can be something thoroughly enjoyed
24. The A-Team theme tune surely, or the theme tune to Knightrider
25.
Ok, here's the question: If you had the oppotunity to cure all of the world's diseases and hunger, would you do it? Now here's the kicker, you have to sacrafice one person in order to do it. One person's life, taken by you, to save billions. What would you do?
Sound's like a storyline to a future anime, lol In any case as was said, the end justifies the means, if one life had to be sacrificed to cure the world of disease, then I would to it, the question would be more interesting if it was "Would you sacrifice your life" instead :o
