1. They all look great Epsilon, thanks again. I've saved the ones i'm not using as well since they are worth keeping.
2. Question: Sorry if it's a dumb one, but should everyone's pictures have the same kind of BG so it's impossible to tell from matching pics that one char may be the one paired with the user's other char of the same bg?
3. Thanks for taking up the request Epsilon, this one looks fantastic. I'll wait till I see the other ones you made before i make a decision. It's always a plus having someone who knows the subject matter working on something for ya.
4. Great idea for a thread man. Before i continue I would also like to state that eventhough it was before my time, thanks to my dear OB history teacher (Sakura) I had the pleasure of reading through the past OB Survivor threads and enjoyed just reading it. Since then I have been hoping that Sandy had plans for another one, despite two of the best topics for a RP of that nature to be based on already being done (FF and VG in general). But anyway, on to da stuff: 1. What do you [as a member] want to see most in a RP? -Something original and innovative is great, but in no way is something that sets out to revolutionize a genre to overshadow a great portrayal of an already existing story. It is completely dependent on the presentation more so then the idea. But both are very important. The story must be explained either throughly or cryptic enough to draw in interest but not reveal too much if the point of the story is to unravel mostly through the telling of the story itself. Also something with an ample area for character creation, nothing so wide that it comes off more as work then fun for everyone, but something that breeds individuality for each character. Lastly but not least, a RP that promotes interactivity. Whether it be based on factions, rivalries, or friendships. Forming bonds of all types is part of the fun of RPs i believe, or even elaborating on one that has been pre-decided. 2. What RP rating do you [as a member] usually play in? -M preferably, because there are less boundries and dosen't neccesarily mean we have to fit a certain criteria, merely that we have the ability to do so should the situation call for it. 3. Does humorous fun outweigh killing and gore or vice-versa? [Come on... be honest] -Elements of both are important to a potentially succesful RP i believe, along with others that weren't mentioned (action/romance etc). An un-balance may work as well pending on how the story is meant to unravel. 4. Do you post mainly for RP's whenever you enter the Boards? -I always check the Square/Underground first If i am involved or looking to get involved in a RP. When it comes to posting though, i will save RP posts for last since they usually take longer then posts in other categories.
5. If people are still entertaining requests, I would very much appreciate a set using any selections from: Picture 1 Picture 2 Picture 3 Text saying "Namie Amuro" and where ever convenient "BK". Color scheme, size, and whatnot I will leave up to you. Not too picky, and I have faith in OB's gfx team to make it look yummy :D Thanks in advance to any and all takers.
6. ooc: Blayze, hope you don't mind me using my character from Boss's WitS RP. I am quite fond of the sign-up and didn't really get a chance to use him that much (1 post really). If you prefer i change it then i have a backup plan. edit: Picture should work now (noticed the link was dead) / changed notes around to make Virgil's reason for being with the alliance more convincing. * * * * * Name: Virgil Kingston Age: Around 400 years old (cannot recall exact date of birth due to haziness in memory) / appearence suggests early-mid 30s. Gender: Male Race: Vampire Alliance: Vampiric Alliance Physical Description: Virgil Weapons: -Virgil uses a version of the Kusari-gama which has a padded steel hilt in place of the traditional weight on the opposite of the chain from the sickle. The crescent shaped sickle measures 11 inches, the chain extends up to 10 feet. It is kept attached to his lowerback, behind his trenchcoat when not in use. -Attached to his back in criss-cross fashion, underneathe his trenchcoat are 2 all black (except the blade, which is pure silver) Nagamakis (sheathed when not in use). They are useful for stealthy attacks and quick unexpected attacks. The blades measures up to 18 inches each, making the length of the entire weapon with hilt included 30 inches (the hilt being chiseled down as shorter then traditional Nagamaki hilts in comparison to their blades). Special Skills: Aside from being skilled in the art of his two weapons of choice, Virgil posesses the common enhanced super speed, strength, and quick-healing that most vampires share. When unarmed, Virgil isn't neccesarily talented in any type of martial arts, however he has an extended knowledge in pressure points and will target them when neccesary. This method of unarmed combat is paired well with the speed of his movements. One ability exclusive to Virgil however lies within his vocal chords. Utilizing certain types frequencies in his voice he can cause others to become noticeably weary and fatigued by obstructing neural activity within the cells. Despite working to some degree each time it's used, how quickly or to what extent it works is based on the person's current mental and physical state. The sound of his voice during this time changes very little, but will be recognizable as sounding like two voices in unison. The ability causes no permanent damage to those with a normal immune system. Personality: Virgil is an indulgent yet diciplined invidual who enjoys intellegent conversating as his preferred type of communication with others, and by others this refers usually to his vampire clansmen. He keeps in good shape and enjoys some of the finer things in life, more importantly beautiful women and certain styles of gothic and romanesque architecture. He also enjoys poetic literature and often cites his favorite lines when they relate to the current situation. Virgil is well-spoken and with his mannerisms can often pass for a human when in public. Bio: Virgil's earliest memory was laying on the streets of 17th century Romania, the sky and ground decorated by rain, the dark clouds moving at such a slow pace. Virgil lifted his head to see a man of japanese background, extending his hand to him. His mind and vision were hazy...Virgil had no clue what had just happened, why he was laying on the streets, or why he couldn't remember anything. "If you stay...the thirst will cause you pain...and you will become a monster" he heard the man who had his hand extended toward him say. Virgil looked at himself, he saw his blood mixing with the rain on the streets, but lacked the energy even to simply panic. Virgil felt compelled to take the man's hand, he was taken in by him and came to know him as Aketchi. Years passed as Virgil and his savior Aketchi moved to a small town in England. Virgil still couldn't remember much before the day Aketchi had found him. All he knew was he was attacked by a vampire, and left on the streets. Something traumatic must have happened prior to the attack, something combined with the near death experience of being turned into a night stalker that severely messed up Virgil's mind. Aketchi became his sensei as well, later revealing himself to be a runaway from the Tokugawa Shogunate in Japan. He helped Virgil live as best he could, an helped to create a new image for himself so he could try to live as best he could while forming new memories to replace his lost ones. Virgil's mind understood things very well, he was rather intellegent in fact and adapted quickly. The only thing that seemed to be a miss was his memory. Virgil learned from Aketchi about dicipline, and the art of combat for his selected wepons of choice. Though he was often a deviant student as well as he would become distracted easily by the temptations of humanity...despite not being one anymore. Virgil enjoyed the company of women most of all, but it wasn't until one day when his thirst got the better of him did Aketchi realize it was time to work something out. After being with a woman, Virgil killed her and drained her of her blood...the packets of blood Aketchi supplied him with were too little in number. Aketchi knew that it would only get worse. Before he could take any steps toward helping Virgil however, it was on that wednesday that their residence was raided by members of Section XIII. They set fire to everything in sight and mistook Aketchi for a vampiric familiar. Being in two seperate areas at the time, Virgil fought off multiple members out of self-preservation and struggled desperatley to get to his sensei's side. But by the time he made it, it was too late as Aketchi layed at his feet surrounded in his own blood...just as it was when Virgil was found. But this was different...this was murder, not transformation. Angered, Virgil dispatched the remaining members and fled with the body of his sensei. He gave him a proper burial and apologized relentlessly, feeling at fault for bringing misfortune upon them both. With no place to belong, Virgil wandered the streets of Blackpool for years, and eventually found himself in London...it was there where he met his future. Notes: Virgil does not hold a grudge anymore for what happened in his past, and though he can't deny having a latent hatred for humankind he does not hate humans to the extent as most vampires. He however is loyal to himself and the others of the Vampiric Alliance. Human or Vampire, Virgil has nothing against eradicating the world of those who would threaten his or those who share his beliefs's right to exist.
7.
I'm really enjoying this game. It is keeping me from minor things like eating, sleeping and work. Nothing major. LOL So far I've acquired all three Quickenings for all the party members and one Esper. Pretty much everyone is at a level 28 right now. I forgot about the Cluckatrice mark I took and at the point of the game I am at it is the rainy season in the Giza Plains so hopefully I'll be able to get back to it after a few more story line missions. I've been enjoying this game quite a bit. It's got many of the elements in past FF games I have enjoyed and some new ones. At first I found the Quickenings difficult to use (when they only had one) but as you get more the chances of getting a long chain of attacks increases. I'm a happy camper with this game.
Glad to hear the chains get easier, i didn't get the third quickenings for anyone yet. Also the damn rewards for the hunts better start getting bigger soon...i make more money off of loot in the area that I need to find the target in then the bounty for the target itself.
8. I'm about 31 hours into the game right now, and I can honestly say it hasn't been a spectacular out of the ordinary experience quite yet. Don't misunderstand, it has been a very interesting experience...i'm merely saying that it has yet to really "wow" me yet. The graphics continue to be awesome, another strong point that I see now since i've played more into it is the dialogue is incredible. This includes the voice acting as well as the script, it's one of the best in any FF game i've played. In terms of design and variety in contrast to one another, the characters are great...but one complaint I have is
The characters tend to lack individuality concerning how they can all be modeled in generally the same fashion thanks to the lisence board system. I have gone out of my way to make each one different in terms of what skills i've taught them and what armor they each wear...but it eventually comes down to filling up all the common spots anyway due to lack of spots to unlock. This and the background info on most of the characters are quite weak. It just dosen't seem convincing that this group of people have a collective interest in something so large scale as reclaiming a kingdom from the midst of a dangerous political and physical war.
There is still plenty of time for things to pan out i'm sure. The gameplay is excellent, the battle system has really grown on me. My only complaint is the aforementioned, but it remains an awesome experience thus far.
9. Just picked my reserved collectors edition up today, actually playing it atm. The intro is just absolutely beautiful, as are the graphics overall. It's comforting in a way that they have taken things back to a legitamate medieval kind of ambiance here, but of course with the usual spin of fantasy. The battle system isn't difficult what so ever either, it's quite simple to get used to. Really helps move things along sometimes. Well, I'm off to play some more...i'll more than likely return to this thread at a later time when i've played though it more.
10. This answer will probably be repeated quite a lot in this thread, but it just seems like a sin to me to leave it out. Pretty much any of the Final Fantasy OSTs are gold, the same can be said for any of Uematsu's work really. Specifically however, i am a big fan of the FFVII and FFVIII OSTs. The boss musics got me pumped when they were supposed too and set the mood almost perfectly, especially One Winged Angel and JENOVA for their respective battles, and as for VIII the gems were Maybe I'm A Lion and The Legendary Beast. Aside from battle and boss themes though, both really knew how to set other kinds of mood...especially sad ones. Like in FFVII, It's hard to not cry (or admit that you did if you're more the macho type) after hearing Aerith's Theme not only during the scene of
her death
but during the following fight with JENOVA as well, as the consistency of the music serves as a constant reminder that you have to put more emotion into beating that boss's *** because of what you were just forced to witness. In FFVIII, Fisherman's Horizon soothes you and lets you know that this is a secluded place to relax and plan that next step, play some triple triad, or just lounge around and enjoy the beauty of being miles away from land and civilization and listen as the music heals your mind. I could honestly go on for a quite a while about the FF Soundtracks but tha would take up quite a lot of room. I believe it is safe to say that the good majority of them are true masterpieces worthy of mention and appreciation beyond the norm. Aside from the Final Fantasy series, I am a big fan of Yasunori Mitsuda's work. They can be found in such games such as Xenogears and the Chrono games (Trigger/Cross/Radical Dreamers). Personally i think Awakening is one of the best final boss battle themes ever in an RPG. When i think of classical and orchestrated soundtracks fitting for their respective RPGs, Uematsu and Mitsuda are at the top of the list. Aside from the more mainstream stuff though, an exceptional and easily overlooked soundtrack is that of Atlus's Shin Megami Tensei series, whose chief composer is Shoji Meguro. It's difficult to explain why the music in the SMT games go so well, but playing them and hearing it for yourself, it will instantly make sense. My favorite (taking into consideration I have not played Devil Summoner yet) at the moment is probably Nocturne soundtrack, where the music stays constant in it's dark and quaint fashions, but seems to flow well with every situation it's played for regardless of it's ambiance. The boss battle themes are particularly excellent. Now aside from full game soundtracks themselves, I'd like to give a mention to probably my favorite opening theme in any game i've played and possibly the best opening sequence mixed with song...Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. In classic James Bond form yes, but with a style all it's own simultaneously. It really makes me beg for a movie everytime i watch it. HGW is extremely talented all around as well, a lot of the MGS themes and whatnot flow very well with the game (especially 2 and 3).
11. I have one question: If the event involves competition, to what extent may the prize of winning be offered? Something within the mod's power i imagine but i was wondering if there are any specific guidelines. Obviously the "prize" so to speak for this event is a rare one and any stakes for the events pitched here are sure not to follow in example in terms of type of reward.
12. I'm very interested in picking the game up, i've played a couple of the past games but not really religiously. This game seems to have quite the customization system though, which alone could probably convince me to play the game. My greatest concern about the game however is if the single-player mode won't be as accomodating as the online play, since more than likely i'll be playing it offline. Though i suppose if i ever decided to get what is required to play online, i would play it along with MGS3: Sub...assuming I won't have a PS3 anytime soon.
13.
I think of real bad, grease dripping pizza. I also think of how it's kind of crappy that the burroughs of New York all add up to the city's population count. They're comparable to suburbs practically, which no other major city counts when doing census taking. No wonder it's considered the biggest.
Hm...you've been eating at the wrong places then, lol. But in any case, this reminds me of another thing which is not only does New York (Brooklyn specifically) have the best pizza in the states, but the most diverse selection of multi-cultural foods (this one is the boroughs combined, not just brooklyn) you'll ever find. If there is another city in the states (or North America for that matter) that has a larger selection (only 1 or 2 atm come to my head) i garauntee their quality isn't as good anyway. Manhatten alone has a plethora.
14. I've stuck with the CUNY system for most of my college time (I've done some transferring here and there) and i have always found them to be very accomadating when it comes to helping students with tuition fees and what not. Most of them are reasonable, especially in comparison to a lot of SUNY colleges, but then again that is probably one of the largest differences between the two categories. I'm finding Hunter to be a very good fit for me though, located in Manhatten.
15. My beautiful first car was this baby right here: A 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis. Lemme tell ya they don't make cars like this one anymore, built like a mini-tank and drove smoothly for over a decade. It officially became mine when I turned 19, by then it was well over 10 years old but i never felt so comfortable behind the wheel of any car like I did in that one. Then 3 months ago it tragically saw it's end at the hands of a drunk driver while it was parked infront of my house...at 5:00 in the morning. I really really really miss it...allllot.
16. Well one game I know i'd love to see as a movie is Metal Gear Solid, specifically 3. It would probably make a great anime too, but this is a rare occaision in which i'd rather see something made into a movie in stead. I think GoW would make a pretty awesome anime...i've always been a fan of mythology based stories and such, and the game was one of the best action games i've played for the PS2. Shadow of the Collosus is another one i'd like to see, it would need a great deal of elaboration though if it is to be made into an anime. And i've heard that there was already an animated series made dedicated to the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel, but i don't know if it was poorly done with little detail and hardly covers the timeline well enough to convey a decent story, or if it is worth watching. In any case though, I'd like to see a remake of it that captures the essence of the novel more so than the Dynasty Warriors game, with the exception of character models. I wouldn't mind seeing the DW char models used.
17. Well since I'm from New York, I think of hometown pride for one. I love living here in Brooklyn (which in case people have yet to figure out, is what the BK in my name stands for). I'm mere minutes away from the attractions of the city such as broadway, the MET (Metropolitan Museum of Art), Madison Square Garden, the countless culturally diverse restaraunts, the famous comedy clubs, Shea Stadium (this'll only be understood as why it's important to other Mets fans, heh), Statue of Liberty, etc etc. NYC really has an endless amount of offerings for it's inhabitants and visitors of all types. I know somebody earlier in this thread expressed dismay over NYC being referred to as the best city in the world, but it deserves to be in the running of that claim at the absolute least. I won't claim that it IS the best since there are so many others I want to see...but out of the United States I can only imagine calling here home, despite wanting to travel to various places. I have been to the upstate (known to us in the boroughs as "upstate" since we are south NY) areas and enjoy the suburban-like areas to an extent, but i guess I'm primarily a city boy. Though when i think of peaceful living i tend to edge toward a japanese prefecture surrounded by trees and water...just about the polar opposite of NYC, lol. I have to say though, I'm impressed with a lot of people who have posted in this thread...i haven't heard a lot of the popular misconceptions of New York. Most people out of NY i know of are slightly afraid of it or think it's some kind of haven for criminal activity and violence. The boroughs themselves (dunno about the other regions) have improved greatly in most respects, but i guess to be able to live comfortably enough with the atmosphere here you have to be raised here from the beggining.
18.
the thing about that though, is that even if the OP is changed ever 25 eps or so, the ED seems to be changed every 12-13 eps. looking at how the ED still shows Ririn, Cloud and Nova it's likely that the fillers won't end till about ep110.
I see it ending earlier, but even so when we say soon we don't expect it to mean a couple of episodes. The OP will expand through 2 arcs, that's obvious. The ending will probably change a bit into the recontinuation of the main story. They have let endings run through a tad bit longer than they should have before. They have started them early as well and made new ones heavier on the previously themed ending, i remember watching the "Keep My Pace" ending at first and wondering "WTF is with these stuffed animals?". I don't mind these fillers as much as i minded...let's say the Naruto fillers though. These are actually interesting, and i doubt they will run for about 70 episodes straight.
19. Personally I think it's great, simply because this means I'll get to play it now. It dosn't matter to me which version is the best, for me it comes down to which version I am simply able to play. I don't own a 360 and probably never will, and my PC isn't updated enough to be compatible with it...I already have a method of getting a PS3 which won't drain my pockets too much and I have been dying to play this game since i first read about it's release. I've played ES3, but not fully through. Personally though, i'd rather play it for PC. I'd just be used to it as a former MMORPG player and since a lot of the systems in my place are shared between me and some friends (the PS2 and n64 are the only ones that are fully mine) it would be courteous to them if i wanted to play oblivious on the PC and they could play something else on the consoles. Though it has nothing to do with whether or not the PC version is the best. In fact from what i hear out of the two, the 360 version is actually better.
20.
I actually don?t drink. For the simple reason that it takes very little alcohol to plaster me. I assume it?s because I?m on the petite side and unlike some of the guys I know who are nearly twice my weight even a simple beer is enough to get me. On the flip side, my mom uses different stuff all the time for cooking. I don?t remember what she uses, but she?s got some great recipes that call for different stuff. Like beer batter fried fish. Very tasty.
Body frame has less to do with your tolerance then you think. I'm 5'7 and 150+ llbs and it takes a crap load to get me drunk. I normally don't drink as much as it takes to get me to that point, but I could go on much further then most people I know. As for alcohol in cooking, red wine will beat out cooking wine in taste anyday of the week. Gotta use the real stuff, when you seem flames coming out of the stovetop you know you did something right, lol.
21. My usual drinks are SoCo on the rocks, and captain morgan and coke. I tend to stray off into a few different shots of whatever if i'm at a bar for a long amount of time...but when i drink it's normally a prelude to something else...like dinner or a party, or it'll be at a party. When simply drinking with friends and hanging out somewhere we usually just do heinekens and bacardis. Though normally i'm not much of a beer drinker, heineken literally is one of the couple of types of beer i'll drink. Have never had Sake, but i would like to try eventually. Also I'm the only one of my friends that likes Tequila...i'll take shots of those every now and then.
22. Wow, almost forgot bout this. The square has been moving slow since school started up for everyone again. It's too bad White feels i deserved to lose because i used a technique in writing that indicates gaps and silences between words and also indicates sentences that leave off without obvious continuity where alluded to or begin continuing off of another sentence. But regardless, it was fun to write. It's been a while since i RPed like that. Congrats Acheron, we've already achieved more than most other spars in our Spar by actually finishing it (even if it took near a month's time), lol.
23.
The other day, I got Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria and Okami. I'm extremely excited about VP2, even though I haven't played the first game (and probably never will, unless I manage to befriend someone with a PSP). Now that I know it can be played in widescreen, though, I may put it off until winter break so that I can take advantage of the nice TV at home. When I get it, FFXII will meet the same fate. I didn't realize that Shadow of the Colossus had the same option until I had already started playing it on my 4:3 TV. Since it's a fairly short game, though, I guess I can always play it again at home if I end up really digging it. It does kind of irk me to know that I could experience the colossi in widescreen glory if I just waited a little longer, but the only other games I have on hand are Jak II and Okami, as mentioned above, and I'm not in the mood for either of them at this point. ~Dagger~
Lenneth is a re-release so to speak of the original onto the PSP, so you could pick up the PS version and play it on your PS2. It would virtually be the same. I've been looking into getting Okami. My friend who works at the gamestop by me told me a ton of crap about it, said it's worth picking up.
24. If it makes you feel better, it took me around 14 hours to beat the game, lol. But then again, i did take a lot of time out to explore the entire continent and see what it had to offer. It was fun for a couple of hours, but there really isn't much more to the game than the collosi themselves. BTW i was wondering the other day...everytime you shoot one of those lizard salamander things...and approach it you end up picking it up. Is collecting those things worth anything...or do they have no significance what so ever? I never understood why i'd go around shooting as many as i could find...seeing as how nothing really came out of it.
25. Elliot gazed over at Lysander for a brief few seconds, which to him seemed like hours...before falling underneathe his weight to the ground and onto his knees. Lysander coughed up some more blood...as he could barely manage to keep his eyes on what had just happened. "Heh...well...ain't that a twist of fate." Elliot said as he hovered his hand over a gunshot wound to his thigh. It felt like it had only grazed him, but Elliot saw the wound was deeper. He barely felt the pain from the numbness in his body from all the fighting...and normally the wound would hardly be fatal, but with everything both of these men have been through it clearly marked the point of the beggining of the end of their fight. Lysander tried to speak but lost pretty much lost control over his breathing functions at this point to even create a sound other than a few stifled wheezes. Both men sat still, going over in their heads the injuries they had, and their chances of living from this whole ordeal...they knew it was slim, hell that was generous...it was more like none. Both men suffering a good amount of blood loss, whether it be from gunshot wounds or wounds forced open with jagged or sharp objects. Lysander suffering from excessive internal bleeding and endangerment of lung failure, Elliot with his concussion and busted right arm. Both men tried to regain some strength like they have so many times during the fight, but it seemed to really be over this time around. Thoughts ran through their heads in a coinciding fashion... 'Gotta...' '...finish...' '...this...' '...now...' Both men tried to move, but only succeeded in collapsing beside each other, motionless and essentially unwilling to even try to move at this point. The faint sounds of sirens could be heard through both SN member's attempts to remain conscious. Two ambulances sped toward the vicinity as one of the last sights Elliot had was of Clyne standing within the distance, a phone in her hand. It seemed the result of the fight...regardless of who had proven their convictions the most ended in dismay for the entire team, and not just the two members involved. Elliot looked over at Lysander who was already passed out...he didn't know if he was dead or not...but he knew that the both of them one way or another, within the next few days would probably meet again in hell. He gently closed his eyes, hoping that Nicholas was enough of a saint in his own right to be there as well...so the three of them could drink together after Nicholas told them, "Crazy dumbasses...the hell you two go and do that to each other for?" The paramedics loaded both men into the ambulances. Some of the SN members accompanied them, while other's drove to the hospital with hopes that both men's injuries were treatable.
