Despite one of my most favorite characters from Naruto being Neji, i do not believe in pre-destined destiny, but rather everyone has the potential and ability to create and follow through with their own destiny. I suppose the concept is really that simple. People have different inclinations and different hard-wiring and it is ultimatley up to them to take advantage of it and achieve what they are capable of. It is also up to the person to decide upon an ultimate goal, though it is contrary to human nature to be completely satisfied with it once it is achieved. There is always a strive for more, and even more after that. Those who believe in and find their destiny are the lucky ones.

Do You Think About Your Generation's Future?
TheResplendent replied to Touchstone's topic in General Discussion
It's more of the "I'm ignorant and proud" thing that everyone pounced on him about. It's rather ignorant to be happy about the world when it really is a sad, unfair place.
Well they don't say ignorance is bliss for no reason. Being ignorant willingly is the easy way out and being ignorant simply because you don't know should be reason enough to educate yourself. But many people perfer ignorance because they either lack the brain capacity for intricate thinking or just simply prefer the simple to the detailed which is only a problem if the person is aware and apathetic, and therefore fear that nothing they say or do will make a difference or they just feel as if it dosen't concern them. In my eyes it isn't an insult to be called ignorant, the same way it isn't an insult to call a dead man dead or a handicapped man handicapped. So i agree that it is a serious problem if one's thinking patterns is contrary to reality to the extent where they prefer delusion. -
Anime Favorite opening and ending themes?
TheResplendent replied to TheResplendent's topic in Otaku Central
Umm... I believe the very last ending theme is called "San Francisco" by Midicronica. I'll post my favorites later, though, I was just helping out. ;) -----------------------------
Indeed. Looks like someone got there before me, heh. It defintly goes better with the ending sequence though, as opposed to just listening to it. -
Cloud shouldn't love any women in any Final Fantasy. If Cloud loved a women, it would turn it into a Final Fantasy 8. Cloud wouldn't be cool anymore. And Final Fantasy wouldn't be my favorite game anymore. Cloud wouldn't be my favorite person in FF anymore. I think it was just a stupid idea for Squall to love someone. It made him scared to be alone. But, this is all my thoughts. I was typing as I was thinking. So, Cloud wouldn't be Cloud if he got a girl, he would be a clown.
Heh, honestly i'm a big fan of Squall's character and the progression he went through during the entire game. I thought the romance story was developed rather well as it pertains to many things including the timing of
realization when Squall feared that Rinoa would die before he ever had the chance to puzzle the pieces of his feelings together in order to determine whether or not he should feel sad or not, but it seemed to all come together at the right time as he was breaking down OOC like at her bedside which was really a showcase of how he was beggining to open up and even mature emotionally. It shows the realities of the kinds of feelings not knowing what you have until it's gone can inspire in a human being no matter what his archetype or emotional status.
Bah...but that's not what this thread is about is it :p. Well back slightly on track, i agree completely with paganangel's remark about
Aerith's death contributing to the tragedy of their romance
. Needless to say when connecting the gamer in such an emotional way it hits all the right buttons to make you feel a certain way, if it was
Tifa who died instead, i don't think it would have had such the dramatic or intense effect as Aerith's death.
Just wanted to mention that as i watched more into the series i've really grown to like Shikamaru...big time. Not the best of fighters but he has what i respect the most which is superior intellegence. The details behind his character's capabilities both mentally and physically (but more importantly the correlation between the two) are even more intricate that i would have given him credit for based on the translated episodes alone. I liked even more that he was one of the first to
be promoted to middle ninja class, despite thinking that Neji has been treated a bit unfairly since after the primary selection tournament.
.

Anime Favorite opening and ending themes?
TheResplendent replied to TheResplendent's topic in Otaku Central
My favorite openining themes, and music in general in anime are as follows: Samurai Champloo: Hip Hop has never been used in an anime. In fact, it goes against alot of anime's base audience, who are mostly j-rock/j-pop fans. Then comes along Champloo with Nujabes, Fat Jon, and etc. with these organic, flowing hip hop beats and rhymes that are just soothing to listen to. I particularly enjoy the opening theme, "Battle Cry", and the ending theme for the show's last episode (could I get help with the title?). Cowboy Bebop: I'm usually not a fan of Jazz music, simply because it is very old and very corny at points. But the Seatbelts and Kanno's arrangements are just beautiful. "Tank" and "Real Folk Blues" are great songs, and the individual songs for each episode are also amazing. Great music all around. FLCL: The Pillows. Plan and simple the best J-Rock band in my mind. "Shooting Star" is a great song, as is the ending theme which's name escapes aswell. I love the music in the show all together, just like my previous choices. I can't choose just one out of them all because their all so great and different. Their all just memorable and good.
I'm currently on my campus library's CPU but i have them all DLed on my home cpu, so when i get back i'll post the names of the Sam champloo ending themes. I know the first one in english is "song of four seasons", i have to double check the japanese name. The ending theme for the last episode i enjoyed very much too. I had difficulties finding it though but i have the name of it somehwere. -

Gaming Video Game Picture Caption Game!!! YAY!!!
TheResplendent replied to Tatsubei Yagyu's topic in Noosphere
"How about another piercing punk, right in between your eyes?" -
Though i'm sure this could go into the Final Fantasy fan thread, in case it isn't moved i will post my thoughts. The largest debate about this is what situation warrants the best reason for love? Between Cloud and Aerith we have two star-crossed lovers who meet as a twist of fate when
Cloud falls through the roof of her church and he takes the job of being her body guard and pretty much takes the role of the brave knight protecting the vulnerable damsel in distress.
It's very story-book but really comes to life with the tension and the conversations between the two throughout the game. We know that Cloud cares for her because of his promptness in
rescuing her in the situations she gets into and because of his reaction to her death after Sephiroth kills her. The funeral is an incredibly emotional scene and you can feel the emptiness seeping into of Cloud. If it wasen't obvious in the game, we know from the movie that he blames himself for her death and is unable to come to terms with it fully still.
. On the other hand with Tifa. This goes back to their childhood, eventhough we know that
at first they weren't friends, and Tifa being the popular girl had a ton of friends who all made fun of Cloud which made him feel uneasy about approaching her. They never really knew each other very well but a connection gradually began to grow once Cloud decided he would attempt to join SOLDIER.
In light of this it would seem like Cloud's conenction with Aerith was more pure and more about fated love, where as with tifa it was love that needed time to grow and mature into the actual emotion and it's recognizable form. Tifa was there for Cloud during more of his hardships including
his being exposed to the lifestream in bulk amounts. She stayed with him no matter what and in a way felt like she was protecting him just by being there for him. Though during this time it would be impossible for Aerith to have done the same since shes dead. Granted she isn't presented with the oppurtunities Tifa has been.
But we know that there is tension and feelings between Cloud and Tifa as well, this is undeniable. I remember always being in favor of Aerith because of how it happened, the story seemed to flow better that way and it added more emotion to the experience. She was the sweet, innocent girl who you can see involved in a deep love story. She tries hard to be stronger then she is for Cloud because she feels meek but offers so much more to him mentally. Then i began to think about why Cloud and Tifa would happen, if the reasons were good enough or better then Cloud and Aerith. Tifa was more like the sexy bartender who you can see involved in a more physical relationship, she had the looks, the body, and the attitude. The two girls were polar opposites from one another. To me the connection between Cloud and Tifa has deeper roots yet is more complex because their relationship constantly changed forms and took more time to formulate into the final stages. Where as Cloud and Aerith almost seemed to hit it off right away. Aerith came in a long time after Tifa but the chemistry seemed to be stronger. It's hard for me to say what my preference would have been in Cloud's shoes. To me a girl like Aerith is the kind you always feel like you want to protect, and her personality is sweet, caring, and without a single corrupt bone in her body it seems. To me it's attractive for a girl to want to be protected sometimes and in these days it's very rare to find a girl as pure as Aerith was. It inspires feelings of obligation in you like it's your role to look after this girl and make sure she dosen't suffer from the harsh cruelties of the world, to preserve her nature. But at the same time it is also rare to find a girl like Tifa who is as attractive as she is, and at the same time displays personality traits that don't make her out to seem like her looks compensate for something else...like a foul or bitchy personality. She is also caring and compassionate and is more capable of looking after herself then Aerith is. She is more independant and probably more street smart. To me great looks together with a great personality is a diamond in the rough and that is a turn on to me as well. For Cloud's sake, both girls seem to be in the position to help him out more then he can help them out since both are constantly shown trying to break him out of ruts and keep him stable. Both would be good for him mentally, he needs the better half of his life to be capable of regulating him when he begins to lose himself. To ultimatley answer the question, it's difficult for me to make a decision on who i think would be best...but based on true love alone being the glue that holds the relationship together i think Aerith would be the better choice. Now that's the theoretical POV. Speaking based on spirituality and emotion if you create a scenario in which as the story stands now, Cloud could make a choice between the two. But if you want to think about more simply.
As the story stands now, Aerith is dead and therefore Cloud has no choice unless he chooses to dwell on her memory which won't allow him to create a larger spiritual bond with Tifa because of his lingering love and guilt.
.

Do You Think About Your Generation's Future?
TheResplendent replied to Touchstone's topic in General Discussion
I turn 21 in July, and i can honestly say that around here (new york) i fear for my generations future. All i've ever witnessed during my high school years was how ignorant people were and how high up on a pedestal they all treated intellegence, as if it was so unobtainable to them. The majority of what i've seen from my generation lack the simplest forms of intellegence and common sense and don't give a crap half the time about where they end up or what they are doing, because they lack ambition and just strive for immediete satisfaction...usually in the form of weed, drinking, or bitching to everyone about their problems that they do nothing about. There are very few exceptions (including myself), the criteria i usually use for the people i hang out with or the people i want to meet is that they don't fit this stereotype. As i got into college i've noticed somewhat of a decrease in this, but still an abundance of idiocy amongst those either the same age as me or a year older or younger. So to those on the board who are the same age as myself or close enough, this dosen't neccesarily pertain to you. In fact my expectations are that any of you are much smarter then 75% of the people around here. That's my major gripe really, my generation's lack of sense, intellegence, and direction. This dosen't mean every member, but the vast majority. -
Anime Favorite opening and ending themes?
TheResplendent replied to TheResplendent's topic in Otaku Central
I checked all the pages and past topics and saw nothing like this. If there was something similar then it must have been removed due to inactivity. -
There aren't too many opening themes that i really like in terms of worth mentioning, but i can honestly say that most anything by asian kung-fu generation is great, most specifically Rewrite from FMA, and Haruka Kanata from Naruto. Those 2 are definitly favorites. Also i'm not sure of the names, and im not particularly a fan in the anime itself but i like the opening themes from Ghost in the Shell. I have more favorite ending themes than opening themes, Shinjitsu no Uta and Come from Inuyasha (shinjitsu no uta played from episodes 86-108 or 109 i believe and Come played between 128 to 146), Shiki no Uta from Samurai Champloo (the first ending theme i believe), Himegoto from Vandread, Viva*Rock from naruto (the third one, with the chibi characters marching on the bottom).
i would rather take a bullet for a friend then have to owe my life to an enemy. as some time in the near future they may ask for a favour in return and i will have to give them as i am a man of my principles. ok my turn now would you rather be the richest person in the world but never find love? or would you be the person who just makes ends meet but has love by your side?
This is exceptionally simple for me to answer, a person who just makes ends meet but has love by my side. Making ends meet indicates that i am living above the curve of absolute poverty, which is better by comparison since all i'd suffer from socially or financially is the lack of unneccesary things that are not needed for survival or feelings of relative poverty. Add having love to that equation, it hardly seems like a bad choice since the feeling you have with that other person will more than likely be a trump by itself. Would you rather: Live your life with a strong and potentially terminal STD that you otherwise received during the greatest sex of your life? or Live your life normally yet die a virgin?

The One Thing in Life You'd Search For
TheResplendent replied to Ol' Fighter's topic in General Discussion
I'm a firm believer in knowledge is power. My intellegence is one thing i have a lot of pride in so i would search for absolute knowledge. To grow in terms of transcending normal humanity and their's mental capabilities. Which i suppose is a dramatic way of simply saying i would want to acquire the knowledge of why everything in the world is at it is. I have control over myself and how i would choose to live my life, but to be able to dictate life completely even outside of my experiences would be a different story. Heh, i know it must sound sort of evil...but it isn't without the intent of using it for such purposes. There is much i would sacrafice for this...to draw the line is something i'd worry about when it reaches that point. There are still things/people that i hold very dear. -
What things do you look for in a opposite/same sex
TheResplendent replied to a topic in General Discussion
My standards are pretty clear, a lot clearer than they used to be anyway. The most important feature to me is undoubtedly intellegence and the ability to hold a decent conversation. I do not perfer my women silent and I enjoy speaking about things we have in common or other things. Even if it's small talk i like to know that she feels comfortable enough around me to speak her mind and be herself without needing to restrain herself or feel nervous. Another very important thing is that we have to have quite a few things in common. It would be great if i found someone also interested in anime, vid games and such (since i've never had a g/f into those kinds of things before) but generally speaking any common interests is a must. But an otaku gf would be pretty awesome :p. Looks are definitly a plus if she's cute/pretty but they aren't as important as my aforementioned preferences. It helps if i'm atleast even a little attracted to her, which does not include the common assumption of needing to be "Hot" or "easy" or "slutty"...i'm not a superficial guy who is only after sex (though i enjoy it very much), if i were i wouldn't even bother trying to formulate any social bonds whatsoever in the first place. I am into red hair and dark hair over blonds most of the time but i don't discriminate too much. I absolutely have to be interested in spending time with her for just more than one thing, no matter what the one thing is. And last but most certainly not least if i'm going to go into a relationship with someone, she abolustley has to be loyal. That's a given pretty much. Thats pretty much the most important stuff...getting any more detailed would make this seem like a personal, lol. -
AC for me was a great movie in itself, let alone a great continuation of a pre-existing storyline. There's plenty non-FF7 fans wouldn't know if watching the movie without playing the game but the movie portrays enough to hold it's own without the need. One of the best RPGs every created deserved this from the get go, there was no way i could have waited for the english dub to come out, so i've had it on DVD in it's orignial form since late last year. The visuals were awesome obviously, the remixed music was one of the best parts, and i loved seeing every character reintroduced as well as the debut of the new ones. The fight scenes were great especially
Tifa vs Loz in the church and the motorcycle fight scenes between Cloud and all 3 of them. I thought they kind of decimated Bahamut's looks a bit too much for my taste, but that scene was pretty off the hook since it was a joint fight between the old party members. Oh, and very much lol @ Reno getting locked out of the house by Cloud at the beggining of the movie.
Despite my love for the game and movie, it wasen't without it's shortcomings but it was nothing too costly to the experience. I would have liked the movie to be a bit longer however, as well as see a more developed intergration of
Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo
into the story.
i havent got to see the movie. but from u all it sounds good i should try to get it LaTeRs :catgirl:
Tis reccomended :p . So long as japanese audio and english subtitles dont bother ya (which for most otaku's, they dont) you won't regret it...and you'll finally receive some piece of mind.

Hm, used to have a lot but here are the ones that have survived til today. 1 - Dizzy - In high school a certain teacher couldn't pronounce my last name right and always ended up sounding like dizzy. Since it was the second syllable to my last name my friend though it would be easier to shorten it and just started calling me dizzy as a joke. It kinda caught on and a bunch of my friends just started calling me dizzy. 2 - Party mix - One of my friends thought this up after i told him my nationalities (chinese, italian, and puerto rican), it pretty much speaks for itself. 3 - Spikey - I have spikey hair...i know, not exciting. 4 - Skippy - This one was invented by one of my girl friends, we play a lot of handball here in new york (it's a fast paced game where you hit a ball against a wall in a fashion where you try to ensure your opponent cannot get to it...sounds weird and you'd have to see it to understand fully but it's rather fun) so during a few of my games she thought it looked like i was dancing while i was playing so she started calling me skippy. 5 - Matt J - My first name plus my middle initial which i use for many things.
I was too young to enjoy Tenchi Muyo and Outlaw Star when they were around... now I may never know their glory... *cries* I'm just glad Robotech came out on DVD so even though it's before my time I can still witness it's awesomeness... thank Japan for Robotech.
Tenchi was a fun series...i liked all the character intro episodes. Outlaw Star was definitly a gem IMO, watched it when it was out and loved it and got the box set a few months ago. Def pick it up if you are interested in it and haven't seen it or feel like you'd appreciate it better now...it's worth it.
I htink that's really cool that you want to learn more about your Asian side. That's kinda what I want to do, too. I want to learn to speak Chinese someday (I'm not counting on writing it - God help me in my endeavors if I even *attempt* to try to learn the writing), and I want to know more about Chinese culture. Next year's Academic Decathlon topic is all about modern China (History of Communism, China as a market economy, Chinese art, Chinese music, etc.), so hopefully that will give me a better understanding of Chiense culture. ^.^''
The only thing that really stops me from writing it well is i have really bad penmanship, lol. My characters can be illegible and it's a lot worse then if you write english because there's only 26 lettes and only 3 or 4 look similar to one another. Won't get away with that with 5000+ characters.

Hm, i'll try not to make this too long. My name is Matt (male, if you couldn't tell), i'm 20 years old (will be 21 come July) and i live in Brooklyn, New York (The BK in my name stands for Brooklyn). I like mostly rock music, but listen to some rap (though today's rap is really getting dumber and dumber). No pets, but i love dogs. I am a college student currently deciding between psychology and writing (broad as the subject is, i find myself having difficulties choosing which field would best suit me in the simultaneous interests of enjoyment and financially rewarding) as my major. Though my ultimate goal for the future i suppose leans more toward being a writer/director for my own material whether it be for movies, television, or of course anime (which i imagine would be the most difficult to break into...especially since i can't draw worth a crap). This however does not keep me from appreciating art, as i enjoy very much the talent present in impassioned drawings/paintings/sculptures etc etc. Writing is one of my true passions. Anything from fiction to articles to poetry. Everyday i strive for motivation to write my "next big idea" but at times find myself succumbing to writers block. When i don't, i convey my ideas best through my writing especially when transliterating from my imagination. I have the drive and intellegence to be succesful in this field, and i enjoy it very much which is why i look towards it to bring me a worthy future. Psychology is another of my passions, i love the way the human mind is capable of working. Intricate in it's ways, hidden sometimes even behind the simplest of thoughts and the most negligible of responses. I enjoy studying about the mind which allows me to read people easier through their words and actions and to protect myself from ignorance and narrow-mindedness. I always like to look at more than one perspective of something and analyze carefully. At times it can be a bother however... Off the case of the serious matters, i am a pretty simple guy when it comes to pleasing. Hanging out with friends, making new ones, animes and video games (obviously), sports, food (i've got good metabolism though so i got an average build...guess you could say i have the "anime protagonist" appetite) etc etc...i'm trying harder nowadays to try and enjoy myself as much as possible because i spent more time then i would have liked to in my teen years being pessimistic. I tend to joke around a lot, but know when the time is right...takes a hell of a lot to get me offended too but there is one hot button. To avoid seeming like i'm selling myself like a cure, my worst features are probably my jealousy (i've been working on this for god knows how many years and i'm not sure if i'll ever really eliminate it from my system...but i'm trying harder then anything else) and my laziness when it comes to actually sitting down and doing something i really want or have planned for a while (i.e writing a story or article, or studying, or papers....well ok i guess i only meant the leisure writing when i said "something i really want") I'm a believer in the harsh reality we all live but often dream of an idealistic world. When the time comes i know when to seperate them but wish i didn't have to. I rely on my intellegence, awareness, and open-mindedness to get me by since those are really the aspects of myself i have the most confidence in...er, besides whippng everyone's *** in video games (ya know...i'll be playing games and watching animes into my 40s i bet) Always interested in meeting new people, especially ones that share the same interests. It's part of the reason why i joined otaku boards. Guess i was also curious to see how many female otakus were around :animeswea. But anyway, that's me in a nutshell...hope i didn't bore anyone. I'm open to PMs for whatever purpose.
-
I'm a big fiction writer amongst other types of writing, no anime came close to inspiring my writing the way most RPGs have (especially the final fantasies) but the one anime that got me out of a huge writer's block stump was Evangelion. I'm big into psychology and i was able to seriously combine a lot of concepts and turn them into some original creations. Fullmetal Alchemist has inspired me big time as a guide toward my hopeful future of a writer/director of any sort (movie, TV, anime etc etc) especially during it's last few episodes. Everything that ties the story together in it's progression is masterful to me. But most importantly the amazing depth and aesthetics of certain character's personas and actions inspired me the most when it comes to character development.

Congratulations lucky wisher! You are now a more than proficient driver with a lisence...it is a shame that only 3 days later you swirve off a narrow road on your way to a friend's house when a family of squirrels run out infront of you, causing major damage to the front of your car and your bloody torso hanging off the edge of your broken windshield. In your attempt to reach for your cell phone to call 911 you noticed that it flew too far away from you and one of the squirrels run off with it in his mouth. Now your next thought is to utter a curse at that blasted tree dweller, but before you can open your mouth you realize that the squirrel just gave you the finger and ran off to pawn your phone for a bag full of acorns. Meanwhile, you are left there in -10 degree weather with no motor skills due to the damage to your body while you bleed to death slowly with only the sights of the lonely road and rustling trees to keep you company in your last hour. I wish I could have sex with Jessica Alba.

How often do you visit the OB?
TheResplendent replied to Hanabishi Recca's topic in General Discussion
I usually visit everyday. Whether it's on campus via a library CPU, at my house, or someone else's house. Whether i post or not is a dif story, a lot of the time i am only on for a few minutes but i try to find more time to post when i can. I've been coming to the actual site for much longer but finally decided to join the boards last month. -
What do you think your signature says about you?
TheResplendent replied to shadowpimp's topic in General Discussion
My sig isn't currently all that elaborate, and it will more than likely change over time. But it now pretty much states that i can't wait for FF7: DOC to come out (with the banner to go with it) and one of my favorite quote from one of my favorite characters (roy mustang) from my favorite anime (Fullmetal Alchemist).
