Fun, Weird, or Dumb Facts People Might not Know
The Spectacular Professor replied to Aberinkula's topic in General Discussion
Close examination reveals easter eggs in the background of the Rocky Horror Picture Show sets. This is due to an easter egg hunt the cast had on the set. Apparently, some eggs were not found. -
Well instead of using fictional characters, maybe the OB one could involve members, i.e. Dagger vs Desbreko or something along those lines.
That's an amazing idea. Seconded. -
Fun, Weird, or Dumb Facts People Might not Know
The word "transformer" was only uttered once in the movie Transformer: after a "earthquake" caused by the Autobots, Ron Witwicky comments that one was busted.
In that vein, the word "Venom" was never, ever uttered throughout all of the third Spider-Man movie. "Poison," yes, but not "venom." EDIT: Ah-ha! I found my Bathroom Reader! Gunslinger, my books want to challenge you. Any car in Macomb, Illinois is prohbited from impersonating a Wolf. You may not eat in a burning building in Chicago. Brawley, California outlawed snow within city limits. Conservative? In Hartford, Connecticut, you may not kiss your spouse on a Sunday. Maryland law does not allow lions in a Theatre. It is illegal to shoot anything but whales from a moving car in Tennessee. -
...and now I realize someone linked to it already but called it 8-bit Theatre. .....oh whatever.Best....Comic......EVER. And since I can't post this without either resizing or other stuff, just click. It's worth it. I SWEAR.
8-Bit Theatre is the bread n' butter of the site. still, there is other stuff which is worth a lookin' at. Ask Evil Princess Sara is one of the funniest parody articles out there.
But it's true, it's not choice. As James said you can't just say, I'm going to be gay today and have it be true.
Now that I never said. And I don't feel like discussing this for now, so back to the legislation. Any opinions?
-
Aceburner, being gay isn't a choice. Every gay guy I know, hell, every gay person I know has said that. Someone I know has even said 'we can't help it if we were born that way' when eh talked about getting maid fun of. And as far as I'm concerened, babies are born with sexual orientation. They just aren't aware of it yet, as with memories, language and other various things.
I won't delve into it any more, but those are lousy examples. Language is taught and memories acquired. Self discovery is a cumulation of all that has happened in the past, not "Oh, snaps, I guess I'm gay." You weren't born speaking fluent English, were you?
-
People are born gay, they can't help it. I don't feel comfortable when gay people talk about kissing, having sex with and loving other men, but I don't hate them for it.
Tis is where I respectfully disagree. Babies have no sexual orientation. That's what we call a "Life Choice." Sure, events may transpire to influence one way or another, but that's like saying I was born to join Karate. My personality, which was fostered by my parents, combined with a deep unwillingness to take crap, drove me to join up, where I made new friends and, ironically enough, became more tolerant of jerks. Bottom line: Babies aren't born with anyone's pants on their mind.
I don't think "all men are created equal" is actually considered to be a specific piece of legislation or a specific amendment. By that I mean, it's a vague statement that doesn't at all reflect the reality of American legislation.
Yeah, you're right as usual. That's really part of the Preamble, so it doesn't hold much weight. Heck, slaves were still kept decades after that line was written. I just wish we'd get it together and decide that lack of legislation shouldn't distract from common courtesy.
I'm finding myself closer and closer to putting Deus on my ignore list. Which is rough, because I honestly don't think I've ever done that before. Maybe you could calm down on the oh...I don't know...thoughtlessness? It'd help. -Justin
Trust me, the boy is far too amusing to ignore. -
Doesn't homophobe mean homophibic? Afraid of homosexuals? Most of these guys aren't afraid of them, they just misunderstand and hate them. I hate the word homophobe, it's meaning isn't thought out well.
Actually, I agree. It seems kind of stupid. However, there's really no better way I know of to put it. Besides, hate stems from fear, right? Just ask Yoda.
-
Possibly people who hate gay people. Just a thought.
The most influential homophobe I know of right now is Fred Phelps. And that's because of his message of hate, not position of leadership. From my understanding, homosexual employment is pretty easy to come by, but maybe that's coming from a liberal state. I can't really speak for the rest of the country. All I know is that I myself have heard of no such problem. Besides, I could swear the Constitution already covered this. Something about "all men are created equal."
But it's not all Bush's fault. It's also the dumb***es that voted for him.
Whoa, there, buddy! That IS, after all, over half the nation!
-
Although right now I've found another reason to dislike Bush and some Republicans, who claim the bill will violate the 1st Amendment because religious people shouldn't have to hire gay people when it goes against their religion. Hilariously bad defense, but that's what they do I guess.
Here's a thought: why would they want to work somewhere where they will be looked down upon anyway? Really the only problem I see with this legislation is that I don't really see what is keeping homosexuals from unhindered employment in the first place.
As for PS3, I'm not sure what you mean when you say its capabilities are stripped down. It's a pretty basic Blu-ray player, sure, but Sony are using firmware updates to increase the flexibility of the console as a movie player (i.e. by adding extra features as they start being incorporated into the discs themselves).
Ah, that explains it. I heard somewhere that it was missing a few features, but no worries if firmware's gonna fix it.
Perhaps we should ask the administrators to automatically put Deus ex Machina on new members their ignore lists. And they can't change it until they're past 50 posts or so. It might just be enough to let new members stay a bit longer.
"why hasn't Dues ex Machina posted in a week?" "I'm right here, you fool!" "He says he's right there, you fool." "I dun see him!" And the beat goes on until DB becomes otakuboards' official imaginary friend. -
I do find it odd that I can clobber another woman or a guy for being a jerk without getting the same amount of grief that a guy would over smacking a woman for being a jerk.
There's this notion going around that the guy probably deserved it. Not nessecarily true, and apparently domestic abuse by the female population is on the rise, but I know for a fact that most of the girls in karate at my current rank I don't stand a chance against. I prefer not to anger others in general, but especially not women. Call me old-fashioned, or call me chicken. Edit:
Man, she clearly has a crush on you.
Odd as it sounds, Jihad may actually have a point. People have weird ways of conveying emotion. I had one girl last year who kept following me around and patronizing me for my gaming tendencies. I am told she liked me.
The only reason I have to deal with her at all is because my best friend clings to her like a damn marsupial, but he's gotten boring as **** since he started going with her anyway.
Really no reason to deal at all, then, is there?:catgirl:
Unless you are an international man of mystery, it is never okay to beat up a woman.
You just made me want to pistol whip Austin Powers. DB, listen to Japan. They always say you shouldn't hit girls. The supposed reason is because they are weak and in need of protection from us big, strong men. Bullcrap. I'm in karate, trust me on this. The reason you don't hit a girl is because they will rip your limbs out and beat you to death with them. Just avoid her or hang out with teachers in order to avoid trouble.
Gotta agree with xkcd, and I'll check out the other ones Lunox and Ravenstorture mentioned. Read a bit of VG Cats, which I like, but I feel compelled to introduce Cyanide and Happiness:
I remember this! I loved that cowbell one! By the way, notice the equation the character is drawing in the last part of the first comic: X=K/CD Looks like someone's a fan.
Actually blu-ray has been outselling HD-DVD in most territories, probably thanks to the PS3.
Actually, from what I've heard, PS3's blu-ray compatibility has been majorly stripped down. According to my sister, who owns a PS3, it's either the most expensive system or the bargain basement blu-ray player. I would think that the only way blu-ray would be on top due to PS3 would be because of gamers who already bought the system and don't want to buy a better blu-ray player. (Note: this message is not here to start a console war. One war is enough here.)
I didn't even know that a format war existed but apparently there is one and it has become violent.
Oh, it's not violent. It's epic. (mine. from my photostream.)

You feel stupid, DB? That's possible? Anyway, so do I. I forgot to mention 8-Bit Theatre! It's basically a spoof of the first Final Fantasy, but that's not important. If you haven't seen it yet, go to www.nuklearpower.com and educate yourselves. Do it. Now!

Banning Protests At Funerals
The Spectacular Professor replied to Rachmaninoff's topic in General Discussion
I am not defending the Phelps' position or their despicable acts. But I think it absolutely paramount that we also consider the future legal precedent this sets.
Here's an easy solution. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this fall under personal attacks or harassment or something? They're targeting soldiers on a matter totally unrelated to the war in order to garner attention. That doesn't sound like a legitimate protest to me. I really think the Phelps should stop abusing their freedom of speech, which is an often overused way of justifying harassment, and get better acquainted with the right to remain silent. -
New Members: Introduce Yourselves Here
The Spectacular Professor replied to Charles's topic in General Discussion
You know, there should be an initiation into otakuboards for new members. Like spending a full day in prvate message conversation with Gunslinger. Or forcing them to stare at this image for 5 minutes.
I take back my last taking it back. I loathe you now. Welcome new members. As you can see, the member formerly known as 2007digitalboy should be avoided at all costs. Though many love him dearly, I think I shall have to kill him now (Actually, he usually has a pretty valid opinion. And yes, Gunslinger, I think that's him. I'm checking it against the image battle royale photo.) And now, if you'll excuse me, I shall promptly go blind myself. That was the last thing I needed to see after watching the ENTIRE DiC Legend of Zelda cartoon series. P.S.
Wow, first The Harlequin pops up in the Otakupedia thread, now Ravenstorture in here. Who's next, cloricus? :o Good to see you again. I hope you stick around for a bit.
Sounds like DailyOtaku time! (I hope) -
Well, like any good prostitute, I'm going to claim inability to escape and live on in shame :p
Now that I may sig.
Ouch, and if that doesn't find it's way into someone's signature I'm going to be really, really surprised. :animesmil
I'm sorely tempted, but no. I'd run out of room. I don't think about it much, but I suppose I would at least give it a shot. If the position was offered, I would accept, at least for the time being. I have plenty of time on my hands most days, and a lot of it is spent here. I would probably want either the Lounge or Arcade. The Lounge is my main haunt, but I'm also a big time gamer. I sometimes find myself wishing the Arcade was more active.
