She's friends with voice actors!
The Spectacular Professor replied to Dragonmanm2's topic in General Discussion
You really should be a little nicer, DB. It's not nice to imply things about women you've never met/talked to/experianced ^_~. But yeah, She's probably totally conning you dude. Relax....Breath....It'll be ok, I promise. Then again, there is a chance she does know them, but hey. What do I care...I didn't meet her...
Umm... "Experienced?" Nevermind, I'm talking about you AND DB here. I don't wanna open that can of worms. On topic, I have to agree that she was probably yankin' your chain, but I suppose it's possible. Then again, I can't really imagine anyone thinking someone doesn't know of Crispin Freeman. -
Your Experiences with the Police.
The Spectacular Professor replied to Darren's topic in General Discussion
Yes, that's right, this is a thread about the police
Wow, you really threw me off there. In MY town, red and blue are gang colors.. Anyway, I just started driving today. a block from the Police Station. Really good incentive to remember traffic safety. Also, my mother and I once reported a conman who was pretending to be deaf. We knew he was full of crap when mom refused to buy one of his "I'm deaf" cards and he quite distinctly dropped the F-bomb. We waited for him to get back to his car, then we got his license plate number and took it to the station. -
What Kind of MP3 Player Do You Have?
The Spectacular Professor replied to Aberinkula's topic in Noosphere
I have the 60 GB iPod Video, though I don't use the video feature really. At the time I got it, I had an iPod Mini but needed more space. There's really not much to say about the iPod that people don't already know. Many people complain about it but I've yet to have a problem with the player itself and its features. I've seen plenty of technical problems but those can usually be solved for free with a call to Apple, assuming it's in warranty. Overall, it's a good MP3 player and that takes a lot for me to say considering it comes from Apple. Edit: Clurr, I, like many others left mine with the default name of Petie's iPod. I never really gave it much thought beyond that. And I agree with you on the Nano - it seems too easy to break/lose and it's a lot of money for not much storage space. Oh, and I'm just shy of 5,000 songs on my own :)
I think the main complaint is the fact that iTunes is only compatible with Apple music players. Other than that, I think the iPod Video is the way to go. Unfortunately, I no longer have an iPod. Or anything that plays digital music. It was part of a series. First, my GBA SP was stolen. Next, My 20 Gig iPod stopped working. and recently, I dropped my phone on a plane (a Sync, of all things.) The pockets of my pants are very shallow and Northwest Airlines doesn't do detailed searches of their planes. Therefore, I am displeased with the airliner AND my pants. I know for a fact that the Nano is easy to lose, because one of my friends once found one lying along the side of the road. I don't even want to begin to fathom how one keeps track of a Shuffle. -
Gaming Favorite Video Game Villains
The Spectacular Professor replied to Aberinkula's topic in Noosphere
I'm loving how the thread is four pages in, and practically everybody are avoiding to utter the One Name Over Them All. Yes, the Almighty One-Winged Angel, the Secret Daydream of all Gamer Boys, the Epitome of the Power of Evil, the Ultimate Mommy's Boy: Sephiroth. I don't know if he's all that great by his own merits, but as part of the superb plot of Final Fantasy VII, he's definitely the most memorable villain in the whole history of videogaming. That's exactly why no-one wants to mention him; he's sort of a given by now, and everyone hates him for that. ;P As for my personal favorite among villains in videogames, I still owe my heart to Edea from Final Fantasy VIII. There should be more of her ilk; beautiful but corrupt sorceresses forcing all countries under her control by a flick of a finger. Sure, the plot became quite messed up by the end, but for the parts featuring Edea, I loved every second! And she was temporarily playable, as well! XD -
Preferred Mode of Communication
The Spectacular Professor replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in General Discussion
I was actually thinking of you when I wrote that, lol. I agree about texting being the most worthless, stupid, rediculous, ignorant, tedius, horrible, despicable, appalling, derogatory, sick act man can perform. Every time I see some bastard texting under their desk at school I want to cram their phone in their mouth and choke them to death with it. Even emergency situations are no excuse. If I was crushed by a boulder and could move but couldn't see my right arm nor raise it to my head, and the only way I could get help were to grab the phone from my pocket and type HELP! into it based on my knowledge of where the letters are, then maybe it'd be worth it. ...Nevermind. I'd let myself die. I hate texting THAT much.
Wow, I never realized that I would ever totally agree with this person I argue with just for kicks and giggles. I mean seriously, it gives birth to bums who don't realize that their parents aren't going to pay off their phone bills forever, lazy typists (like to buy a comma?) Hooked on Phonics dropouts (OMGLEIKLOLOLOLOL!!!1111!) and, of course, annoying speech habits (I swear I am going to tear the voicebox out of the next person to verbally say ROFL to me.) I like verbal communication, but what I'm doing now is good, too. -
I'm not really suprised that Battle Rev. is a disappointment. I learned after Stadium to stay away from the console Pokemon games and stick with the handheld versions mainly because I prefer the RPGs. I picked up the first of the Gamecube ones because they included an RPG element but it was very watered down and didn't have the depth that the handheld ones do. I didn't even try getting the second gamecube one since a friend told me it was similar in style to the first one for the RPG. However I guess some people enjoy the battles themselves and I guess the reason they'd get something like stadium, coliseum or Battle Rev. is so that they can fight it out in 3D with the pokemon they've worked hard to raise.
Actually, I recommend the 2nd GCN one. It's pretty disappointing that there still aren't any routes, but you can actually catch wild pokemon, there are plenty of shadow pokemon to snag, and best of all, the shadow pokemon can learn more than just the one move that causes recoil. On that note, they nixed the whole thing for Battle Rev? Nintendo, I'm disappointed.

Otaku is NOT a good self proclamation!
The Spectacular Professor replied to IHZ's topic in General Discussion
Also the word Otaku can apply to any sort of infromation specialist. I've heard the developers of Final Fantasy 12 call themselves "History Otaku". That does this mean that they are history obessed people who never surface for air besides the occasional need to get substinence and relieve themselves....? Certainlly not. I think in this sense, the word Otaku can be connotated as meaning "Expert or knowledgeable person" . So I don't think that using the strict defintions on a doubtable source such as Wikipedia, can be truly be the absolute meaning of the word Otaku. I call myself an Otaku on many different subjects: Journalism, Rhythym games, Fighting games, and so on and so forth. I don't think that it's a bad thing at all. Just don't take yourself too seriously though. Everyone has a little Otaku in them, whether it would be music, or clothing design and so forth.
Certainly. I remember a scene from Fullmetal Alchemist When Ed and Winry are arguing. Ed calls Winry a "Technology Otaku" (or something alond these lines,) and she retorts with "Alchemy Otaku." The term is used in plenty of different ways. Besides, I have referred to myself as a "Nerd" or "dweeb" before. I don't find it insulting. Therefore, it insults me not. -
Wait...does that mean if I get laid, I'm going to get smarter. God knows I need to. Get smarter, I mean.
Thank you for clarifying, friend. Anyway, these studies are starting to get on my nerves. If you think about it, it's totally logical. "That math nerd is SOOO freaking hot!" "That special ed kid makes me RANDY, Baby!" (Thank you, Austin Powers.) And then, all our scientists go out and do studies and spend millions of dollars of tax money in order to more accurately state the obvious. "Studies show that war kills people." "Latest scientific studies prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Weebles wobble, but they don't fall down."
Having said that, I think Movies, Music & TV would probably be a good place for this type of content. Plays and live music performances would go well together afterall.
This is also kinda what I was thinking. It would make perfect sense To put it in Movies, Music & TV if it werent for the fact that it's called Movies, Music & TV. Doesn't really encompass stage acting well.
What about Media Centre then ? Seems to cover the description of the forum without being redundant, though I dare say there's a difference between redundancy and obviousness.
The thing is, the word Media kind of brings to mind Mass Media, i.e. television or radio. A more general term would work, but I can't really think of anything better. Shy's "culture" thing might work, but The lounge covers a lot of "culture-y" stuff, too. Wait, what about "Performances?" It's kinda weak, but it encompasses most of the idea. Then again, it sounds like a scheduling forum.
-
Yeah I know, but this time around I'm a little tired of the same formula, so I was wondering if there was anything new about it that would make it more interesting.
Let's just put it this way: thanks to the Global Trade Station and lots of luck, you can have all three starters by the second gym. However, the GTS's main flaw is this: n00bs requesting Dialga and Palkia (the games' headliner legendaries) for Bidoof and Starly and other low-level crap. I DID manage to procure a nice level 1 Piplup that already knew Hydro Pump for an Unown that was at catching level still.
-
Okay, so I've been thinking about this a lot. There's really no place in all of Otaku to discuss fine arts, such as traditional stage acting. I'm just curious as to the possibility of one. Maybe as an addition to Music, Movies and TV? Or a sub-forum? it doesn't really fit under any discriptors that we currently have. I'm sure SOMEONE else here hase an interest in Broadway, or even High School Plays. Maybe a stage shows forum to discuss concert tours and stuff, as well. Just my thoughts, anyone else have any input?

Anime Subliminal Anime : Behind the Scenes
The Spectacular Professor replied to Darktigerpack17's topic in Otaku Central
The Philosopher's Stone of Fullmetal Alchemist is based off of a legendary substance of the same name said to possess the ability to transmute lead into gold and grant eternal life. Kind of makes me wonder what those poor boys would do if they encountered Voldemort on their journeys... One Piece is rife with these things, as well. "God" Eneru's appearance resembles a combination of Buddha and a Japanese god (of lightning, I believe.) Water 7 looks a lot like Venice. Sir Crocodile seems Quite Mafia-esque. Chopper is such a blatant illigitimate cousin of Rudolph it's not even funny. And, of course, Oda's intense Fanhood of The Nightmare Before Christmas comes out very strongly in the latest chapters. -
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
The Spectacular Professor replied to eleanor's topic in Noosphere
I thought this scene was rather crappy. Well, the scene was good, but what's with the Dementors?!? I mean, they looked completely different from the ones in PoA, and Dementors are supposed to always have their hoods up... It says in the book that anybody who sees what a Dementor looks like under their hood would be in no fit state to tell anybody. It just looked ridiculous to me, and it really took away from the impact of the scene, in my opinion. The movie wasn't really that consistent in regards to the previous movies, with the Dementors and also with some other stuff... Meh, I'm just being overly critical. :animeswea I really did like the movie.
Well, in my defense, I kind of disliked PoA (movie), I liked these dementors better, since just making them more skeletal made them even more sinister, and the hole in the hood thing started with PoA, anyway. They're supposed to REMOVE the hood to administer the Kiss. -
Embarrassing & Yet Fun Things That You Do
The Spectacular Professor replied to Rachmaninoff's topic in General Discussion
DDR is a big one. It's only embarrassing 'cuz I'm not very good (and the last arcade machine I played on had a faulty right arrow.) Also, I enjoy singing random songs while impersonating Louis Armstrong. It's fun normally, but then you get to weird stuff like Barbie Girl or Gangsta Paradise and you can't stop laughing, especially since he has that awesome deep gravelly voice that just begs to rap (not.) -
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
The Spectacular Professor replied to eleanor's topic in Noosphere
Well, I saw it the other day. This movie meets strong approval. Four "Yesh!"'s out of five. Good bits include: - DA music montage - The
Dementor attack
at the beginning was well done. - Dumbledore's
phoenix trick
was pure genius. -
Dumbledore VS. Voldemort
was the best fight scene since the dawn of ever. -
Sirius's death
was extremely well done. - Bellatrix Lestrange and Dolores Umbridge (or rather, loved to hate. The actresses captured the essences of their characters perfectly.) - Weasley
dropout scene
= YESYESYES! BEST SCENE EVAR! I disliked: - The absence of Firenze the Centaur (read the book to find out why.) - Why weren't Ron and Hermione
Prefects?
- The manner in which Umbridge
entered the Room of Requirement.
That was utter crap. Other than that, it was a fantastic movie and looking at book seven, I hope to see even better in the future. -
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
The Spectacular Professor replied to eleanor's topic in Noosphere
Well I myself love the harry potter series. i havent had the pleasure of going to see it yet. the only part that bugs me from book-to-movie is that they skip important parts from the book, and put other stuff instead. but thats just my opinion
Nah, that's just Prisoner of Azkaban. Hey, Alfonso! How 'bout a little less scenic Hogwarts and a little more telling us who the frick the marauders were! I look forward to seeing this one, however. I understand that it was executed well for a 2-hour movie based on an 800+ page book, but a friend of mine says she was still disappointed in some cuts ( such as the
lack of quidditch in the movie where Ron is supposed to finally make the team
among other things.) I myself am bummed that
Sirius still dies,
also. -
lol Oh, no problem about the Voice Actors... I have to do my part to spread the One Piece love, you know. :D I take the screenshots myself, so I'll be glad to make some of Zoro/Sanji violence. XD
Actually, I meant to add "out of my head." to the end of that phrase, but it would truly be amazing to see something like that.
-
Thanks for the VA list! now If I could get the image of Sanji and Zoro yelling at each other like they're constipated, all would be well. And they specifically stated that no accents would be used for the Mugiwara crew, so it's all good.
Who needs anime? We have Animaniacs and Pinky & The Brain.
Anime currently fills the void that the networks create by cancelling the good stuff (Animaniacs was shot in the back one episode short of 100.) America doesn't make this kind of stuff anymore. Nowadays, they take old bugs bunny cartoons, remove any "inappropriate" materials (i.e. stuff that's actually funny, educational, or religious, because God... um, possibly existant diety, that is, forbid you learn something while watching something that might actually keep you interested,) put them through the office shredder, feed them to their dogs, and sometimes urinate on them, as well. Steven Spielberg needs to make more cartoons. He may be able to save the industry instead of deliver another War of the Worlds that he may or may not be creating at the moment.

Well, With Chibihorsewoman's thread about shows we grew up with getting so many mentions of this classic, it's high time the Warner Bros. (and Sis.) got a thread of their own, since the other one was 4 years old and all. What is there to say about Animaniacs? It's brilliant. The show combines old-fashioned Bugs Bunny syle slapstick with cultural awareness, historical importance, and just a little bit of innuendo (HELLOOOOO NURSE!!!) The best part is the fact that you're learning something the whole time you're laughing your head off at the best cartoon EVAR. Plus, they had plenty of fun extra distractions like Buttons and Mindy (dog protecting clueless baby,) The Goodfeathers (Italian pigeons,) and, perhaps most famously, Pinky and the Brain (A highly intelligent mouse and his dim-witted companion who set out on a harebrained scheme to rule the earth every. single. night.) Anyway, great show. If you can find it on DVD, buy it (I know it's out there.)
-
And, of course, They're pinky, they're pinky and the brain brain, brain, brain, brain...
Actually, the first one is Dinky. See for yourself. Anyway, why did all the good stuff jump the shark, anyway? Dot's contemporary translations of Shakespeare were comedic gold. America isn't making any more good cartoons (I'm actually starting to get tired of Family Guy being the only quotable one out there,) and anime Dubs are lackluster, as well.

Video Games and Dial-Up: my anti-drugs: Between these two, I have no time for drugs. Add into the mix the fact that my mom keeps kicking me off every five minutes to check her e-Mail or answer the phone, I barely have time for Dial-Up. My DS Lite needs Social interaction! Get me Wireless! Plus, I figure Harvest Moon is way more fun than sitting on a couch half-naked, half-baked and half-dead. No Coke for me. I'll take Pepsi.
I've only read the first manga of this series. But if the anime is anything like the fun and zany personality they have going for Train then I definitely want to see it. It's not often that I read a manga and like the character that much in such a short time. He's wonderfully funny and zany at the same time. And the way he goes from being goofy to completely and totally serious really sets the tone well for what's going to happen next. In fact, I'm going with my Mom to BestBuy in a bit and though I'm getting a DVD it's going to be a hard choice since there are so many that I want!
Yeah, I think FUNi is licensing it now. But ya gotta love an anime where the main character is an ex-assassin bounty hunter who drinks milk. It's just classic. Plus, 13 is actually my lucky number. Besides, if you think Train's got some cool stuff up his sleeve, just wait 'till you get under
Sven's eyepatch.
I remember my sisters and I watching Animaniacs for hours on end every saturday morning (provided they could get me off Barney. Man, I was a wimp back then.) i loved the way the clown never got to celebrate Wakko's birthday in one piece (especially when his own balloon creations were used against him.) Shortly after WB left local airwaves, I turned to Fox, where I stayed for quite some time. Digimon, Transformers and the like. Now that Fox hosts 4Kids (Ironically, they didn't handle Digimon TOO badly,) I have a loaded cannon pointed at anyone who controls the remote on Saturday mornings (usually me.) WB recently came back to local TV, under the guise of the CW. I tried out their saturday morning lineup and found lackluster performance. Cartoons are crap nowadays. That's why more kids turn to Disney channel sitcoms. CW Saturday lineup: Krypto the Superdog: Since when can he even talk? Loonatics Unleashed: I want to strangle the guy who came up with this. Tom and Jerry Tales: Don't remake classics. It doesn't work. Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get a Clue: Same as above, except made worse with "superpower' scooby snacks, a "pimp my ride" Mystery Machine, and over half the crew gone (ya know, Daphne wasn't ALL looks, just 98%) Johnny Test: Crap. Don't touch it with a 10-foot pole. Theme song's okay, though. Legion of Superheroes: Superman's kinda gimmicky, but otherwise decent. The Batman: Somewhat annoying VA, and Robin's a total brat, but Decent nonetheless. Xiaolin Showdown: I could take or leave it. Spider Riders (discontinued): If someone could find me a Sub of this, I'll take it for a spin. The dub VA's suck.
This is the new DBZ/GT thread. And as first order of business, the question this thread originally was. This is just common curiosity, but who do you think is the most important character in DBZ/GT? And I don't mean your favorite. I mean who has caused the most development, story, etc. In my humbled opinion, it's Dr. Gero. This is why. 1. Thanks to him, we have time-traveling Trunks, who potentially saved a lot of people from Frieza/King Cold/Frieza's Army. I mean, Goku would've stopped Frieza, but many people, including the Z-Senshi, might have been killed. 2. It's thanks to Dr. Gero that we have still-good Vegeta (maybe). Like Krillin said, by having a common enemy, Vegeta didn't revert to evil guy. 3. The bad doctor's handywork brought about Krillin's family life, in the form of Android 18 and Marron. Not so important, but still. 4. If not for Cell, we probably would have many more people on earth, at least leading up to the Buu Saga. 5. If not for Cell, again, we wouldn't have Ultra SSJ, SSJ2, or even SSJ3. Well, Vegeta and Goku might have SSJ2, but it's not likely. Thanks to the need to defeat Cell and the Androids, the Saiya-jin (Saiyan) community pushed to ascend SSJ, creating the Ultra SSJ and SSJ2. Also, without Goku going to Other-World, he wouldn't have learned SSJ3. 6. Last one. Without Android 17, there would be a chapter missing from GT. The Super 17 Saga, which I haven't seen, wouldn't exist without Gero and 17. There. I'm done now. But what do YOU think?
You raise valid points here, but you overlook one vital thing. GT isn't canon. It's a spinoff that Akira Toriyama never even touched. Therefore, your last point (if nothing else) is utterly invalid. Just because he is the main character, I'm going to go with Goku as the most important, although Hercule/Mr. Satan did protect many sanities by covering the whole Cell thing up.
