It's good to have common consensus about rules in places like daycare, but everything should not be so strictly regulated. For example, your rule about no toys from home... you base it upon materialism (you list everything that could happen to the toy!), and forget the educational point-of-view (what pros or cons it has to children). In the kindergartens I worked in they had "bring a toy from home" days, where children had the chance to present their cherished toys to each other and play together with them. The familiar item from home gives the kids feelings of comfort and security while their parents are away, so there is definitely benefits related to them. If you continue working with kids, you should learn to see things more from their perspective instead of the all-knowing adult's. The well-being of toys shouldn't be more important than the well-being of children. And if the toy gets broken/stolen/taken away, the kid will most likely learn to take better care of his/her belongings.
Thanks for the input, Sandy. The problem with the toys is that they play with them during the activities and not during free time when it is okay, which is what would prompt someone to remove them. I have to admit that you raised some interesting points though, so if I may: Aceburner's revised example rule: No playing with toys from home during activity time.

Okay, so I am helping watch some kids at my church for a daycamp. Don't get me wrong, they're cute and all, but some of the things they do that there are NO rules against drive me mad. I want to know what everyone thinks should be a rule that isn't usually a rule, or even a good rule that usually is a rule in childcare facilities. My example is: NO toys from home! They can play with them later, plus they just get lost (has happend,) stolen (might have happened,) or confiscated (will happen if they don't stop playing with them during activities.)

False. I know a little Spanish and a little Japanese. TPBM Is a humanoid reindeer who wears a pink hat and dark blue pants. -
Let's just put it this way: If I were popular, would I be posting threads on an anime message board? (I kid my fellow Otakuites.) Anyway, no, but I don't really care, two or three good friends are better than a thousand shallow followers who would abandon you instantly if you showed up to school in the wrong shirt. I do have a couple of friends who might be considered "popular," though.
And on that note (as well as the notes of Ace and his friend above), every organisation of religion that I am familiar with has jokes about it. Quite often they are so obscure that only a practicing member of the religion would find it amusing. (For example, there are actually books published with titles like "you might be Lutheran if..." They're written by Lutherans, sold by Lutherans, and bought and read by yet more Lutherans, all in the spirit of capitalism and good fun.)[/size']
Yeah, we might even start some Numbers jokes, even though it's not even a religion.

Anime Anime that need a sequel/continuation
The Spectacular Professor replied to 5th Hokage's topic in Otaku Central
I can only answer this for anime in general, not one-season anime. Shaman King MUST be continued. Let's recap the end:Yoh
defeats his evit twin,
everyone is happy until they find out that
they have to go back to whatever,
until one day...
"Oh, we forgot to finish the Tournament!"
What. The. Crap. At least tell me who wins or something!
Aceburner I added spoiler tags to your post. When ever you mention something that could spoil a show for someone who has yet to see it always use spoiler tags. Just read the sticky at the top of the forum titled spoiler tags for quick instructions on how to use them. ~Aaryanna
-
What is this lack of respect towards women, huh?
The Spectacular Professor replied to a topic in General Discussion
So, funny story, not really. So, wednesday night, I'm with my friends two boys including me and my friends girlfriend and our friend who is also a lady. We're standing around a bowling alley parking lot, waiting to meet up with other friends. When this guy walks by and my friend says "hello", but the guy finds it offending and glares him down. When the guy is down giving my friend the "eye" for lack of a better term, he goes in and bowls...when he's done...as he was heading towards his car, my friend says "have a good one" and then that guys goes crazy. He stops and just looks at me, and says "what are you looking at you (racial asian slur, involving the slant of my eyes) piece of $h!t" and turns to the girls and starts calling them "whores"...So, the girls go crazy and start calling him stuff, then he goes to my friend who was greeting him before and says "keep your bitches in line", the moment I heard that, I was pretty offended...but that's not all, he starts talking about how he keeps his "women" in line by "putting her in her place". I was about to deck the crap out of him...but I didn't want to fight infront of the girls. Instead I got in his face and told him to leave or he needs to start showing common courtesy, at least towards the girls. He looked at me and spit this nasty loogy right by my shoe...and he just took off. But this isn't the first time this has happened with the disrespect of women. I mean they do absolutely nothng to start it, and yet they get all this bad attention... it's total B.S. I don't know, I was raised mainly by my mother and always taught me to alway respect females...and always shows it. Is it our culture now? I mean this guy, to label him a "wigger"... And that type of music, doesn't really show respect towards women...at least, it seems that way to me. What do you think?
That is just wrong :animeangr . I am a male who was taught to respect women and considers people who behave like that to be an insult to the human race and all other males. I would call the cops if I were you. That is hardcore regular and sexual harassment. That asks for heavy fines or jailtime or something. -
I was just at work going over some major problems we have in-game. I was sitting at my desk and drinking a delicious Blended Vanilla Bean from Starbucks (^_^). Then I came across this one report, which made me very, VERY, upset. "Mormons are *******, all they do is dress up in these ugly suits, and ride around on bicycles! And on top of that they have like 500 wives!" AHEM AHEM AHEM! Well excuse me! I really don't think that's what Mormonism is all about. And why must everyone pick on the religion? Seriously, isn't there someone else that can get fired upon all the time? Even on Late Night shows (Jay Leno, David Letterman) are starting to take aim at my religion. It's not funny, and not fair. I mean, God forbid someone makes a crack on a Catholic (no offence people, really). The whole church would go crazy and the person who said it will go under fire. And as I know it, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints does not practice polygamy anymore. Yet, there is this one show on HBO called "Big Love" about some Mormons in SLC, Utah. I think the main character has like two wives and 10 children or whatever. What do you think about Mormonism always under fire? For those of you who ARE Mormon, do you find shows like these offensive? And finally, do you think if other religions such at Catholicism, were to be made fun of, would they be very upset and make a big deal about it?
All religions have those weird quirks that make people make fun of them. I'm lutheran, I know a couple of jokes about us. There are also plenty of jokes about jews, muslims, catholics, etc. You just have to learn to live with it. There'll just be more if you complain.

What quote do you live by?
The Spectacular Professor replied to PaganAngel's topic in General Discussion
Well, my sig is generic, so I can't use it. I would have to say... If at first you don't succeed, don't take up skydiving. I actually use that as a motto. Edit: The sig has changed. I like my new sig as a quote to live by, too. -
What Superpower do you want?
I would chose the ability to create and manipulate fire without any accelerants! I say this because I love fire!!! To be able to create and control fire without matches or lighters would be a dream come true!
Pyroaniacs Unite! I would want to be able to create, manipulate, and BECOME fire. I don't care if you chuck me in the water, I would just heat the air around me until I could fly away. Or boil the water or something. Either way, I'll escape. -
Ooh, tough one, I really can't decide. Ninja have thos sueperfrigginawesome moves and pirates get loot, ships, food, drink and, of course the coolest chase scenes this side of Hollywood. So, I dunno, Ninja Pirate? There's a slingshot pirate, rubber pirate, three-sword pirate, etc. Why not? It would make it a lot easier to raid ships, too. Just in and out.

Yeah, I think Black Cat rules. Let's hope a certain broadcasting company doesn't aquire the rights to the anime in America. Seriously, though, I don't know much about it since I have a dial-up internet connection and little money. Does anyone know where I can read it online? Edit: Now that I think about it, There's so many guns in this Manga/Anime that 4Kids can't touch it with a 40 foot pole unless they edit everything but Train's milk.
Well, let's see....I don't think I could go more than three days without any form of the Otaku! No joke! That's because I sit here and just float! But it makes up a large amount of my life!
No kiddin' So! Also, friends and videogames for me. Yes, I have an addiction :animeswea . -
It's sarcasm corner! 4Kids is the best company EVER!!!!!!!! Between their complete and utterly faithful adaptation of One Piece and Shaman King and their original classics such as Bratz and G.I. Joe (Sigma Sucks) this is one awesome company! Seriously though, most people don't care how you spell Zo_o. I put L's because the American Manga does.
