Manga One Piece Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
The Spectacular Professor replied to Tatsubei Yagyu's topic in Otaku Central
Yeah, he's gotta be one of the most expensive guys out there by now, maybe even around Dragon or Doflamingo's level. That's gonna add a ton of bounty hunters to his pursuers. Jeez, is there anyone who isn't after Luffy at this point? Wapol, maybe? Anyway, I've been watching the anime versions of the "Where is the crew" cover stories, which is pretty much worth the watch just because of Hancock's hilariously delusional Luffy fantasies at the beginning of each episode. Not sure if they consulted Oda before mentioning this, but it looks like each of the Straw Hats still have a piece of Rayleigh's Biblicard and are planning to meet up where they lead, just like they agreed. That's anime only, though, so I'm not sure if that's the direction they'll use for the manga. Also, addendum to my earlier theory, since I was reading TV Tropes earlier.
Apparently Marco is dead o_O. Or at the very least, he's not likely to be in any fit condition to captain a ship. Thanks to this, I'm thinking it's most likely that Ace will take over and go for Pirate King himself. On the off-chance he doesn't, though, the Whitebeards might just end up like a headless snake for a good while. I'm kind of starting to feel sorry for them.
-

Doflamingo probably had it impounded. Luffy's gonna have to punch out whichever pompous noble is in charge of the Shipyard down there to get at it. "WHADDAYA MEAN TOWING FEE? I'LL GIVE YA A TOWING FEE!" -

The Spectacular Professor replied to Tatsubei Yagyu's topic in Otaku Central
My best guess is that the next move will be for
Pops' orphans
to take Luffy back to pick up his crew, then they'll probably escort Thousand Sunny across the Red Line.
As for Whitebeard's crew, Marco is first mate, but he did outright state that he was fashioning Ace to be the next Pirate King. My theory is Ace will either join Luffy's crew out of gratitude at this point (since Whitebeard isn't around to support anymore) or take over the Whitebeard Pirates himself as the new Fourth Pirate Lord. If he goes with Luffy, Marco will probably take over.
After that, I'm not sure. I don't think they'll just be aimlessly floating around with nothing but a Log Pose anymore, though. The New World is going to be even more high-stakes than the last half of the Grand Line, so they'll probably be sailing with real purpose and actual goals in mind. Luffy will probably still insist on a few largely pointless detours once in a while, but overall I think they'll have a lot to contend with most of the time. Any remaining Marines will be all over them, they'll be racing every other pirate in the area towards Raftel, and come to think of it, Dragon hasn't made a single move this whole arc. He's gotta be planning something. As for what I want personally,
Crocodile is free
. Moar of him, plz. EDIT:
It just occurred to me. What with Whitebeard out of the picture, the other three Pirate Lords are going to be at each others' throats. The world as they know it is changing and we've got like three different civil wars brewing. Yeesh, this is intense. On the other hand, Shanks :D. Wonder if Luffy will give the hat back.
-

Not only did they kick loads of marine posterior in this last chapter, but
Luffy and Ace
also got not one, but two epic pose moments. This chapter shall be glorified for generations to come. I sure am gonna miss
Whitebeard,
but I suppose it was predetermined that someone's blood had to spill in this arc. Usually Oda avoids it, but with a mission like this, it's just not at all realistic that everyone important would make it through alive. Besides, the man sure as hell knows how to make his exit. Rest in peace,
Pops.
-
Nope! Should I?
Considering the fact that you remind me of the main character, yeah. You probably should. Writing What are you reading?
The Spectacular Professor replied to Sabrina's topic in Creative Works
The only book I've ever thrown at a wall was The Awakening, by Kate Chopin. Seriously, this thing was acclaimed as a beacon of hope for the Women's Rights movement. It's supposed to be the story of one woman's journey of enlightenment and self-discovery. So what does she do? She runs around town acting like a bitch to all her friends and family, with the notable exception of the one woman who doesn't discourage this behavior. She treats her husband like crap and the book seems to imply that he deserves it, despite never actually doing anything in-book other than be concerned for her well-being and possibly being a bit short with her after a stressful day. She neglects her children to run around trying to seduce several younger men, only one of whom she's actually romantically interested in, and she basically becomes a selfish, arrogant prick of the highest caliber by the end of the book. Oh, and then she drowns herself because the one guy she's actually interested in can't return her affections. To reiterate, she kills herself over a man. CLEARLY women can be independent. -

Not really reading at the moment, but I'll hopefully be able to get my hands on Brave Story within the next week or so. It's the source material of one of my favorite movies of all time, so I'm looking forward to finally getting to read the original novel. Just need a couple more bucks and I'll be bearing down on Borders like a large... thing that bears down upon something else. -
Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]

Now if Sasuke actually killed Naruto (I know, wishful thinking) he'd be the best character in this series, but I can settle for Sakura being next.
I know that sounds mean... sorry. :)
Yeah man what the hell.
It's only doing the world a favor if they both kill each other and rid us of themselves.
Also, I know this is just reinforcing the fact that Sasuke is an annoying, idiotic bastard who needs to die for the good of everything, but I honestly hope Karin stays dead. She's the only thing I find slightly more repulsive than Doucheiha. -
Anime Manga vs Anime translation time
The Spectacular Professor replied to rotlung's topic in Otaku Central
It might be that the actually manga takes more time to draw than the anime (due to the fact that the artist/ writer has to think up storylines etc vs copy a storyboard and add a little bit) But like I said i don't know anything about translating or animating.
Manga is drawn and inked weekly by one or two artists and a handful of apprentices to help out. Every once in a while it'll get too hectic and the author will take a break for the week, but that's about the only exception barring illness or death. Anime, in contrast, needs to be animated, which usually translates to an entire studio full of professionals working around the clock. Depending on how fluid the animation is and how detailed the artwork is, it could easily take several hours of drawing to create several seconds of movement. There's also voicework, soundtrack composing, editing all this material together and a bunch of other stuff just to produce 22 minutes of children's entertainment. This is before the subbers even get their hands on it, and though they work fast, there's usually at least 2 chapters' worth of material in the average anime episode, so twice as much dialogue to translate and you have to be good with video editing. Manga features an average of about 20-30 pages a week and can basically be rewritten within an hour if you have MS Paint and knowledge of its most basic functions. Of course, most scanlators take more pride in their work than that, so they'll use a higher-end photo editing program and try to clean up the page as best as they can. Sometimes, the delay in scanlations is simply because the group is waiting for better quality images to use. And most mangaka will at least have a general idea of where they want to go with their series before starting, so the plot will come as it occurs to them. Honestly, if you're professionally publishing a work that you have no idea how to end, you should probably figure that out before you end up with a mess of overpowered mains with no room to improve because they can pretty much just nuke anything that moves. Lookin' at you, Tite Kubo. -

I'm watching the Care Bears movie right now. It's a hell of a nostalgia bomb, since I think the last time I saw it I was 5 or so. A couple of thoughts: - Holy crap this is legitimately freaky biznazz. Evil spirits, demonic possession, child abduction and even unwarranted revenge. Y'know, for the kids. - Grumpy's gotta be my favorite Care Bear of the bunch. In a world of sunshine, rainbows and hugs, he dares to be glum. That takes resolve. -
I think the high-schoolers in the apartment directly above my bedroom are playing DDR. My walls, ceiling, and windows are all shaking. I don't really want to knock and complain, because they're in high school, it's only 10pm, and it's a Saturday night. . . but darn it all, I am a cranky old spinster and I want some peace and quiet.
You should just go up there and totally show them up at it.
Stayed home coughing up a lung. This irritates me greatly. But at least I passed the time by watching the first three Pokemon movies. I really dislike Ash's voice... :animestun
If you want to hear Veronica Taylor do some actual decent voice work, check out Slayers. It's a classic and all five seasons are available on FUNimation's website (and probably their Youtube account) for free. The last two seasons aren't dubbed, though. Mostly because they came out about two years ago and the original dub cast is all over the country by now. -

Children's cold medicine made me hate Grape Jolly Ranchers. No, seriously. They designed the stuff to taste like candy so kids would be willing to take it. Problem is, I ended up trying the medicine first as a kid. So instead of the medicine tasting like candy, the candy tastes like medicine. -
First off, I am highly disappointed that no one has mentioned the lovely Yoko Littner from Gurren Lagann. She may be a blatant case of Ms. Fanservice, but she's also a very strong, well-rounded character that really got more crap than she deserved in the series. Poor thing.
Heh, heh, "well-rounded." Anyway, in the interest of contributing to the topic, I give you Raine Sage: Since Tales of Symphonia has been adapted into both an anime and a manga, I declare it to totally count. Anyway, here we have a specimen of this lovely species displaying the "Glamorous Beauty" marking pattern. The name is very apt, as you can see. She's got a lovely figure that is well- displayed without being outright flaunted here (granted, the shoulders are a bit weird, but that's mostly a problem with this particular pic,) and her platinum hair is a compliment to the entire ensemble. Also glasses
They wouldn't have let me do anything like that either unless you have a letter from the card owner saying that you have permission to use it. But most places here would probably have reported you. LOL.
Yeah, I understand that, the thing that annoys me most about this is the fact that I've done this several times before and there was never an issue. Presumably it's because this was the first time I've ever actually had to confess that it wasn't my card, but I vividly recall one time when I got the stupid thing's PIN number wrong twice, than had to call my dad and ask what the correct PIN was. For some reason, that didn't raise any red flags at all. -
The Padded Room Party: Random Thoughts
The Spectacular Professor replied to Shy's topic in General Discussion
So I decided I wanted some lunch, right? Happens to everyone. The problem is, I need cash. So my dad lends me his debit card and I head down to the local grocery store. Only I find out it wasn't his debit card, it was his credit card, and you can't get cash back from those. Furthermore, they asked me to sign the receipt, which I explained that I cannot do because I'm not the owner of the card. I get called out on this and I'm forced to leave embarrassed. I go back home and tell dad what happened, and he gives me the right card. I head back to the store and try to complete the transaction this time, wait in line for a good five minutes and get THIS close to checking out when the previous cashier pops up and tells me that since they now know that I'm not using my own card, they simply can't ring me up. This all took about an hour to achieve absolutely nothing. On the plus side, I'm not hungry anymore. Now I just want to punch things. -
