Tales of the World: Realms of Unity Victor Thomas was a normal boy. He tried to stress this to his parents every day, despite their continued accusations of his video game obsession. As far as he was concerned, he played them just as often as anyone else his age and didn't have any problems at all, thank you very much. Besides, he had other hobbies, like martial arts training, girls, hanging out with his friends, girls, movies and girls. And movies with girls. Of course, even he couldn't deny that he was having some downright weird dreams. They started out simple enough, Vic would aid some video game characters in saving the world. Usually they were just based off the plots of the actual game, but they started to become increasingly complex, complete with their own plotlines. Then came the day. All Vic could remember was falling asleep the evening before. He thought he had woken up, but he decided it must have been a dream. Suddenly, a voice called out to him. "Warrior of the dormant power, heed my call!" Vic tried to answer, but found that his mouth seemed to have vanished. Indeed, his entire body was gone. Only his consciousness remained on this strange, pitch-black plane. "Heed my call! Our world is in grave danger! You must unite with the others of the dormant power! Seek the Heroes of Worlds!" Gradually, Vic's presence in the mysterious nonmaterial realm began to fade. "I guess it's time to wake up," he thought to himself. . . . "...don't need him! I can destroy and create matter!" "Idiot! You don't even know if Fonic Artes work in this world! He's their only hope!" "Who the hell are you calling an idiot, dual-blader?" "What's that supposed to mean?!" Vic slowly opened his eyes. "If one sword is 100, then two swords are 200, right?" "HA!" laughed the red-headed man standing beside Vic's bed, "And you call me stupid, Lloyd! Even this guy knows about your style!" "Wait," muttered the other man, presumably Lloyd, "How did you know about that?" "I know you," replied Vic dazedly, "I know you both. You're Lloyd Irving, you're the great hero who united the worlds!" Lloyd nodded slowly. "And you," continued Vic, turning to the red-haired man, "You're Luke fon Fabre! You can cause seventh fonon hyperresonance alone!" "I suppose I can," gloated Luke. "Alright, that's enough! What the hell is a fonon, anyway? I don't understand a thing your wordy friend told me, Luke!" demanded Lloyd. "'Wordy,' am I?" A third figure appeared in the doorway. This one was another man. Tall and somewhat imposing, with long, blonde hair. He wore an impressive official-looking uniform and glasses with square lenses that barely obscured his crimson irises. "Hello, there. You're awake, I see. I am-" "Jade Curtiss," Vic nodded in recognition. "-It's rude to interrupt, but yes. That is my name," replied Jade, "You are?" "Vic," replied Vic, "Vic Thomas. What am I doing here?" "One of our comrades found you unconscious in the woods. I assume you were sent here by the spirit of this world's World Tree. As for your unprecedented knowledge of ourselves and our histories, I suppose that our respective stories have reached your world in some form of media or another." "Yeah, you guys are from video games." "I have no idea what that is, but I suppose I should be grateful to be so well-known. I'll make this short, then. I don't know what it is, but there is something about you, Vic. You have been chosen from among billions of being from your homeland and many others to aid this world in its darkest hour. We do not yet know what is threatening it. Will you help us?" Vic beamed from ear to ear. "Yes, sir!" "Good," smirked Jade, "We'd best be off to find the others, then." An RPG based on the "Tales" game series. This one is set in a crossover world. Characters from the games will probably appear. I'll try to make it as newbie-friendly as possible though. Each new character from one of the games will get a brief bio in the backstage thread. Signups should include an entire background story leading into the main. This one will have a backstage thread, and I plan to make heavy use of it to draw out the storyline. I want this RPG to be as good as possible, so everyone participating to be on the same page as much as possible. This includes me. PM me if there are any questions. Here's the sheet: Name: First and last. Age: Could be just about anything, into the thousands. more on that later. Home World: Where your character originally came from.
Feh Naruto has his moments when he's not acting like an idiot, I think he's plenty capable of earning the right to use a Giga Drill Rasengan. ¬_¬
He's failed to perform a proper gattai, which is a basic requirement for using Giga Drill Breaker. On top of that, it looks like he's probably going to cheat with another clone again to compensate, thanks to those 2 or so pages from the last chapter. Such failure removes Naruto from his GAR privileges for at least another 28 chapters and I doubt Kishi has the writing prowess to pull off the hot-blooded speech of epic win it took to make 3 episodes of Emo!Simon worth sitting through just for that one scene in episode 11. EDIT: Oh, yeah. There was the notable exception of
Kittan
, but it was his dying moments and he pulled it off with manly fervor that would have made Kamina proud to witness, so he gets past the gattai rule. -
I think we'll start off with PC, because chances are, we all have a PC. The games would be fairly old - I think 2004 is a good limit. That should be enough so that as many people as possible can play the game. After all, both PoP and Beyond Good & Evil were released in 2004, and they are just $10 on Steam!
I'd recommend starting with multiplatform, just to keep the widest range available. Besides, some people's systems don't meet decent gaming requirements. Just the point of view of an interested outsider, for the time being.

Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
The Spectacular Professor replied to Ryo the Tactician's topic in Otaku Central
I can tell someone's going to enjoy this. I'll try not to enjoy it more. 427 Chapter begins with Kishimoto, once again, trying to convince us that Konohamaru is a legitimate non-comic relief character that we should all take seriously. Once again, this would be fine if he hadn't turned himself into Sasuke and Sai making out in his last noteworthy appearance. He claims he can't run away from this fight because if he does, Naruto won't be waiting for him in their final epic battle for the throne of Konoha or whatever. Alternatively, if he fights now, he will die unless Kishi mods him to Sasuke-like proportions. Can't fight yer rival if you're dead, kid. Cut to Naruto, who's still trying to gather Sage chakra while moving. Suddenly, he has a revelation. Which we don't get to find out about, because we immediately cut to Tsunade, who (through a slug) has discovered Kakashi's corpse. I'm guessing that the fact that she just blew the wall away (which, by the way, Pein is really needing no help with right now,) I'll go ahead and guess that Kakashi is legitimately gone. Choji shows up to report Sith Pein's powers to Tsunade. I would like to point out right now that It's really a good thing Kakashi didn't die in vain. His death was lame, but at least it was meaningful, in a way. I mean, just imagine if Chouza survived inst- ... KISHIMOTO YOU RAZZLEFRACKING SON OF A MOTHER. This is complete bullcrap. The reason Kakashi died was to allow Choji a chance to escape after the shock of losing his father. Guess what didn't happen? HE DIDN'T LOSE HIS STUPID THROWAWAY CHARACTER FAT LARD FATHER. Chouzo was still alive when the sacrifice was made. Kakashi had much more going for him at the time, including a huge fanbase and much more room for development. Chouza, in contrast, is a throwaway one-use type of character that was basically invented just to prove that ninjas still have families. He never really needed to be in the series beyond the occasional "Hey everyone's fighting so Chouza is too" or "here are the ninjas at home with their family" scene. Chouza should have been the one making the sacrifice. Even not considering all that, let's think about this: Kakashi has, like, no motivation to protect Chouji other than the ever-present "comrade of leaf, keep him alive if you can." He's not the Choji's team leader, that was Asuma (also dead, though at least he had a damn reason to die.) As for Chouza, he's the boy's father. It makes much more sense for him to be doing the heroic noble sacrifice to protect his son, who is not a random Chunin he's never really spent enough time with to grow fond of. But no, Kakashi dies instead, because Kishi is hellbent on destroying any kind of enjoyment his fans will get from seeing a character return. Who's left, anyway? Iruka? He could basically be written out around now and nobody would notice. Tsunade? Kill her until she dies from it. Yamato? He's only interesting for comic relief. Gai? Half of his dynamic just died with Kakashi. No, I'm going to have to just say "Screw you" back, Kishi. I'm going to say it and then against my better judgment I'm going to keep reading this dreck. Chakra Glutton Pein ('cuz he's fat, see) is trying to retrieve the original summoner body. He's going to have to go through Kiba and his mom first, though. Since they tend to go for the tear your limbs off thing, I'd say he's going to have a little trouble here. Konan is Shino's responsibility. Yeah, I don't get it either. Also, Team Gai has finally realized that stuff is going down. Since no one can be bothered to contact them and add to their defense the two most ridiculously powerful taijutsu specialists in the village, not to mention the resident genius and... Whatever the hell Tenten is supposed to do. I dunno, Kishi never gave her any development. In the meantime, Sith Pein has found Tsunade. She recognizes Yahiko, it seems, and the chapter ends on a cliffhanger that is obviously building up to a fight. Crossing my fingers for Tsunade's death here. -

Yikes, that first half was stagnant again. I thought I was reading Naruto for a bit. Luckily they made up for it with another Fei Wong Reed Kick the Dog Moment, which involved Fye becoming unexpectedly awesome in a way we're not used to him being awesome at. Also, now that swords are drawn, hopefully all this exposition has finally ended and it basically just comes to blows in the next chapter. CLAMP is good at what they do, I don't like it when I can draw parallels between their works and Kishimoto's. Usually, it's next to impossible, but those last three chapters had me wondering.
4. All of the bodies have the super special eye condition, but for the most part don?t take advantage of all of the things it can do (performing every jutsu)
I'm kinda wondering about this one. It's possible that what was meant by that condition is that the possessor of the Rinnengan has the ability to reanimate a body and use their bloodline chakra type while controlling them. This would explain how the bodies are reanimated. The chakra receptors, according to my theory, allow Nagato to control multiple bodies by spreading the reanimation effect through 6 different ones. Basically, Nagato's running around somewhere, and he's "using every jutsu" through all the various reanimated Peins. Also, anyone else notice how Loli Pein's summons seem to also have the Rinnengan?OIr is that just me imagining something? -

Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
The Spectacular Professor replied to Ryo the Tactician's topic in Otaku Central
The new chapter is out! Prediction: Naruto will solve his natural energy problem the same way he solves every problem. He couldn't do Rasengan because it involved doing two things at once, so he made a clone to rotate his chakra. He solved the problem of adding elemental power to Rasengan with another clone. This one can be solved with clones as well: because they all share chakra, he can have a clone hiding in a corner standing perfectly still, gathering natural energy and sharing it with his real body, which is then free to move around. 'Twill be so, mark my words.
I'm kinda hoping it involves Kyuubi. I'm honestly getting tired of the clones, and I think it seems fitting that the problem is fixed by what caused it in the first place. Anyway: Chapter 426: Dementor Pein (That's what I'm calling him. It's a Harry Potter reference. Deal with it,) is interrogating people. And then eating their souls. Or something. It's weird, don't ask. Apparently, he leaves the souls of those who don't lie. Konohamaru is hiding behind the wall. Maybe he'll get his soul eaten if we're lucky. It appears we are not. Ebisu has arrived, in a manner which I have to admit makes the man look kinda cool. Then we suddenly cut back to Loli Pein vs. Ibiki. And then we cut back to Naruto and his sage training, where he makes the umpteen-billionth stupid resolve to never give up because Jiraya was stupid and so is he. Stupid. Now let's cut away again to Konohamaru, who is filled with uncertainty. But it's angsty ninja uncertainty, so it's all good. Instead of showing us Ibiki being awesome, Kishi has decided to take the initiative of showing us how Konohamaru's mind works right now. Apparently it's tuned in to a marathon of The LOOKIT ALL THE COOL THINGS NAYROOTO DID Show. It then makes him want to take on Dementor Pein. Oh, this should be good. Soul-sucking demon man vs. LOL YAOI NO JUTSU. Yeah, the end. Wow, this one was the first big stinker since Sasuke's justification of manslaughter speech. Also, lol we're on page 69. -
Ah, so the jig is up. me and my big mouth. Well, that's the way it goes. It's been real. Oh, and Drizzt? You were delicious man. What, you're getting no info from me! Just who do you think I am? Later, buddies...

Alright, one last shot for defense here. If I die, I die. Simple as that, game over. I will, however, point out that my smooth talking shouldn't count against me as much as it apparently is, because I always talk like this. I like messing with people. That is all.

This is a new idea of mine that's been stewing around in the ol' noggin for quite some time, based off of an old project from GameFAQs' Tales of Symphonia message board. The basic premise is you take a classic story, switch all the roles around and write the story the way it would have gone if the characters were in the newly assigned roles. The characters act out these roles with their established personalities and abilities from the original work. For example, lets say that Emperor Palpatine replaced Han Solo as the smuggler pilot of the Millennium Falcon in the original Star Wars trilogy during the scene where Luke and Han originally man the Falcon's cannons to shoot down enemy TIE fighters. "I got one!" "Good! Now release your anger!" Of course, Luke would also be someone else, but you get the idea. This would be different from normal RPs in that anyone can post regardless of whether or not they signed up. There would also be no audition thread because the characters are already established. There are a few things I need to know before going forward, however. 1: What should the story be? 2: What roles should all the key players have? And most importantly: 3: Who would be interested in helping this project along?

What is your opinion on emo people?
The Spectacular Professor replied to HelloKittyLover's topic in General Discussion
I view emos as attention-seekers who go out and make a point of whining and moaning about every little thing to get pity from people. It's a fad and people grow out of it fast. Some use it to be unique, which is a bit ironic considering frickin' everyone does it. I agree that none of them have a problem and I notice that they tend to be part of the groups that go with the latest fads instantly, indicating that either they don't really want to stand out or in their attepts to stand out they inadvertently end up conforming to even more cookie cutters. In short, get over yourselves. It's called life, and it's bound to suck sometimes. Frankly, mine may already be sucking enough without you helping it along by bothering me with your problems. Now their flagship superconformist here: He can die a thousand deaths and still leave my burning hatred unquenched. -
It's funny how a single death and the following propaganda can send a town panicking and calling out lynches, ya know? As far as I'm concerned, everyone who's posted and continues to breathe is suspicious. Since everyone's posted, I'm wary of all of you. No one can be trusted and I'm certainly no exception. The big thing here is I enjoy it when my vital organs are functioning, so I'm gonna call it quits on the propaganda for the day. I'd change my vote, but that would only serve to put me in hot water seeing as how the divison between me and Tetra seems pretty thin here. I will, however, admit I was probably a bit hasty with the pointer finger there. Now ladies and gentlemen, this: is Chewbacca.
I too had suspicions of Ace and his stealthy ways but didn't really want to point any fingers untill I found out more. Lynch: Ace
Ah, someone not underestimating my apparent sneakiness. Though if it's all the same to everyone else, I already have something hanging from my neck. I don't need my neck hanging from something right now. As far as I'm concerned, everyone's suspicious. Even me. Heck, this entire post could be some nefarious plot to turn all your brains inside out. I agree with Lrb's dead-end investigation being a little too convenient, plus the fact that he outed himslf so willingly. He could be anyone, scared civilian, werewolf, even the actual cop or the Priest trying to throw us off the scent. Tetra is somewhat defensive, which indicates she's either totally innocent or a panicking killer. Chibi is going with the votes, which might mean that she's just willing to keep her head and whoever else's off the chopping block. And Mr. Blond, Darren and Vicky don't seem too concerned and are just rolling with the punches. That sounds like it could be a ploy to me. Actually, I guess Drizzt is pretty safe to assume innocent, since he's dead and all. Though I could go Johnny Cochran on y'all if I really need to defend myself.

The Spectacular Professor replied to Ryo the Tactician's topic in Otaku Central
Stupid compy, getting broken on the week I DO have to do this... Chapter 425 It appears that the worst has happened. Kakashi, that legendary mountain of win and pie, has passed. He's traveling on to the afterlife, where he gets to see his old friends, Obito, Rin, and the Fourth Hokage. Heck, he even gets to see his dad, who gathers with him 'round the campfire to sing their campfire song. Their C-A-M-P-F-I-R-E S-O-N-G Song. Or maybe he'll just tell Kakashi about his various ninja shenanigans. And now, we skip this potential win here to cut back to Naruto and Fukusaky failing at Fusion-ha. It seems that Ninetails doesn't like Fukusaku, so his negative spiral energy is rejecting the Gattai. Sorry, folks. Tow that volcano off, it's distracting. Anyway, It seems this isn't going to work, meaning all that training is useless. Back to Konoha. Apparently Pein's secret technique is transmitting chacra to each other and holy crap it's Ino. Haven't seen her in a while. Anyway, Loli Pein busts in and summons a demon, who turns into some kind of freaky Cerberus Akamaru thing when they try to seal it. Lots of stuff gets blown up and Ino gets freaked out by Leader Woman's slugs. Seriously, what is up with the slugs? I mean, at least the other sages had animals that made sense. Maybe because they're ugly or something. Or they're largely useless. Why couldn't it have been Tsunade who bit it? ANyway, Loli Pein makes everyone wonder what's up, since (apparently it's a he) can summon things, but Jiraya already killed the summoner. This leads to a quick revelation of a bunch of crap we already know. Ibiki decides to hold off the child thingy while Konohamaru cowers in the alleyway like a little sissy girl. The end. There. I made fun of the chapter in which Kakashi died. You happy? I feel awful. Eh, I'll get over it. -
