Sign Up One Piece: Race to the Grand Line
The Spectacular Professor replied to Akieen Cloud's topic in Theater
Yes please. Name: Eleff D. Garlock A.K.A. "The Spiral," "Captain Garlock," "Captain Spiral" Age: 19 Appearance: Here. Ship: Here. Crew: Garlock's Pirates Devil Fruit: Spiral Spiral Fruit (Paramecia): Allows the user to turn their body parts into any kind of spiral-shaped object, such as springs or drills. Garlock specializes in the latter. Weapon: martial arts combined with fruit powers. Bounty: 15,000,000 Beri Bio: Fresh out of West Blue, Garlock has arrived on the Grand Line with big dreams and a bigger mouth. Opposes the World Government at every opportunity thanks to a strong opposing sense of justice and a general disrespect for any authority. Like other D's, he strongly believes in destiny and following your dreams. However, he does not suffer from Narcolepsy like many of the others. His ship, the Spiral King, is top-class state of the art machinery designed for combat with highly advanced characteristics, such as the ability to transform into different "modes." However, the engine tends to get flooded and leave the crew stranded shortly after most maritime battles, only returning to function once the water is pumped out and the machinery is dried. To combat this, Garlock has created a feeble-looking sail that can be used for a limited time until the engine is restored. (I added a few details, hope you don't mind.) -
Manga One Piece Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
The Spectacular Professor replied to Tatsubei Yagyu's topic in Otaku Central
So I've been giving One Piece an actual fair chance lately, and turns out that it's not as bad as I usually made it out to be. I've never been much of a fan of pirates (Pirates of the Carribbean being the only exception.) I've only made it to chapter 14-16, I think. Luffy beating Buggy the clown. As I've said, it's not as bad as I made it out to be, but I'm not exactly seeing what's so great about it either. Characters, I've chuckled here and there, and the favorite so far is Zoro/Zolo. Luffy is more tolerable than another main character (Naruto) but he's still on the annoying side. And one thing I don't think I'll ever care for is the artwork. I'll take great artwork with nice character models over quirky-ness any day.
Glad to see you give it a shot, man. I'm gonna go ahead and suggest you finish the Arlong arc before deciding on a final verdict about whether to drop it or not, but that's just me. Luffy can be pretty annoying when he wants to be, but overall he's more likeable than Naruto to say the least and in his better moments he can be incredibly awesome. As for the artwork, it gets much better, but in the meantime you may find you either stop noticing or it kind of grows on you. Later on, the super-deformity kind of evens out and the characters start to look normal. -
Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
The Spectacular Professor replied to Ryo the Tactician's topic in Otaku Central
Alright, I'm ungrounded. Let's do this thang. Chapter 421 As the chapter opens, we see a crowd of Konoha civilians running from the madness and destruction. One little girl (or boy, it's really hard to tell thanks to Kishi's art style) is hit on the head and trips. No, wait. It's not a bump, it's a bun. Whatever. Anyway, Sakura swoops in and suddenly decides to be useful for once, killing the giant centipede that was chasing them. She heals the child and then Iruka swoops in, telling her, to her horror, that Akatsuki is invading. Ya know, news sure travels slow around this NINJA VILLAGE. Back at the mansion, Tsunade is arguing with the elders about whether to bring back Naruto, who they argue Pein's target and probably still to weak to take him on anyway. They raise a good point, but logic be darned. Tsunade has superstrength and a short fuse and she's gonna use 'em. She lets 'em have it, since they "can't treat him like a child forever." Of course, that doesn't do anything at all to the fact that throwing him into the fray is like handing the nine tails to Pein unconscious in a box. She then goes on to convince her advisers that leaving the fate of the village in the hands of the entire graduating class of ONLY THREE OF THEM ARE COMPETENT NINJA is the most logical thing in the world. The sad part is it works. Cut to the interesting part; Kakashi repeatedly failing at attacking Pein. Cut away just as fast to explain that the Pein's Chakra Receivers are reacting to each other. Finally, we get to watch Danzo kill the messenger frog who was supposed to report to Naruto and Fukusaku. Why? Because he's a jerk. Also, the story needs more complexity or something. I don't really care. I'm pretty sure we already determined the fact that Danzo's a jerk a while ago. Anyway, the end. -

Looks like Jump's taking a break this week. No new Naruto or One Piece (not sure about Bleach.) So, instead of writing summary this week, I give you all the Itachi vs. Sasuke fight way better than I ever could have done. Second: These images are from a show on Cartoon Network called The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack. Or, as I like to call it, "Spongebob 2.0." It has all the strange visual gags of Spongebob, but it's actually funny. So even in what Spongebob was made for, there are shows that do it better. Plus, he lives in a freakin' whale. Way better than a pineapple. But wait, why the heck is this subject even in this topic. Here, let me try to fix the derailment. Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
The Spectacular Professor replied to Ryo the Tactician's topic in Otaku Central
And after a week of nothing but Tsubasa, I return to this not quite crap anymore. Better transform and roll out. Chapter 420 Ooh, nice cover spread there, Kishi. Interesting character designs. Too bad all but 4 of them are dead, all but one of those having been done in off-panel before Shippuden even started. Yeah, fantastic middle finger there. Apparently, Naruto is learning to jump on air. He's not done yet, but we don't get to see what happens next. Instead, we get to see Iruka nearly get pwned in the face by a Pain. Kakashi steps in just in time. The fight commences, and at some point Pain uses the Rin'nengan to dodge Raikiri somehow, despite being pinned to the wall. Then he knocks Kakashi back with either his eye or the Force. Cut to Naruto. Yeah, Fukusaku. Why so serious? Apparently it's because Sage Mode is "risky." Since you have to hold still to use it, it's basically useless in one-on-one battles. Thanks to that, Naruto's been nerfed back to Sasuke inferiority once again. Luckily, this can be fixed if Fukusaku and "Ma" just sit on his shoulders and gather energy for him. Until they get killed off by someone, of course. Back to Konoha, where we learn that the Pain Piercings (or at least the bars that go in 'em) are chakra receivers, meaning that either that's how the eye works or Nagato is another freaking puppet master. Well, everybody has to get moving because one of the Pains is a firin' his lazer... out of his skull. Tsunade has finally noticed that Pain is in her village, breakin her stuff. This means she's almost 2 full chapters slow on the uptake. Her first course of action is, of course, to call Naruto back. Been nice knowing you, Konoha. -
Meet and greet chat?
The Spectacular Professor replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
Personally I think this could be a lot of fun. ^_^ I'm not too worried about the time restriction for theOtaku's chat. If it's on official event and set up for a certain time, then it is possible to ask Adam to remove the restriction just for that time frame. Like he did for the celebrity chats that have been held there.
That'd be great except I don't want Shahllen busting in and stupiding up the place while we're trying to talk. :p Like everyone else is saying, though. Scheduling it in AIM or something of the like isn't a bad idea. Probably our best bet, in fact. -
Writing Darren May Cry
The Spectacular Professor replied to Dragon Warrior's topic in Creative Works
Excellent. I think my laughter just frightened everyone in the house, especially at my part. The sheer randomness of it all is what gets me. It's amazing how you can mold a storyline that makes perfect sense while at the same time making none at all. Makes it hard to pick a favorite part with everything happening like that. It's all just too good. Props, man. Props. -
What Martial Arts Are You Into?
Ace, I'm sorry to hear about your test. What does your blackbelt test consist of?
The pretest, which is where I went down, is 2 kata, 2 applications and a kicking combo. The actual test is 10 kata, 10 applications, 10 elbow techniques (I think,) and a kicking combo. And if you do any one kata out of the order you told them you would do it, you may as well leave the building right there. Despite all that, I'll keep trying. I'll probably make it past the pretest at least next time. -

Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
The Spectacular Professor replied to Ryo the Tactician's topic in Otaku Central
*Cracks Knuckles* Let's get it started. Uh. Get it started. In here. Chapter 419 Pain/s is/are forming a plan/s to invade/invade a lot. His bodies are designated into realms: Demon, Animal, Hungry Ghost, God, Human and Hell. First three will cause a diversion whilst the latter three will do reconnaissance, along with Konan. Apparently there's a spherical barrier surrounding Konoha which will automatically detect intruders. Unless their name is Orochimaru and they bring along an army of missing-nin and giant snakes. Also, it's apparently been there since Itachi was still part of the village, since he supposedly knew how to get in without setting it off. Must've never occurred to anyone that class S criminals would remember how to disarm the security alarm. Reset the password, Tsunade. Anyway, Animal Realm is going in first from the sky. This is supposed to confuse Konoha's forces somehow. Hey, it's working on me. Upon landing, the other five somehow appear with her and split up. The rest begin to destroy things while Human Realm goes around gathering information and pulling people's souls out of their heads. Going back to Cloud Village, Raikage sends those three ninja from earlier with a message for Tsunade. They all have a BAWWWWfest and go on their merry ways. Little do they know that Hatchibi has escaped in one of his demon's tails and is currently arguing with it. While rapping. Because he's black. He likes his freedom and doesn't want to return to his village because he doesn't want to defend it. Blah blah, exposition, chapter end. This was better, but there is still an uncomfortably low level of fail in these pages. I'm still nervous. -
Music What's your theme song?
The Spectacular Professor replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in Noosphere
In real life I tend to use Jumpin' Jack Flash by the Rolling Stones. I like the song and the lyrics are fun. Currently, my online persona uses this little number: Partly because it's hilarious, partly because it's a bunch of sound bytes from my favorite anime ever, and partly because it syncs up perfectly with the avatar I use at TheO. -
I can hardly begin to fathom what I just read right there, but I know it was awesome and I want more.

Of the ones you mentioned, I'm probably most interested in Yozakura Quartet and Shikabane Hime: Aka. Second one probably just because it's a Gainax, which I'm usually pretty satisfied with (or utterly amazed, as with Gurren Lagann.) Other than that, wake me up when The Vanishment of Haruhi Suzumiya gets here.
