OB and its members... A Family?
The Spectacular Professor replied to Nomurah!'s topic in General Discussion
*month late* I feel sort of offended being called a whale killer where as I'm a Dutchman. :(
Well, you guys did help the Belgians corrupt Dr. Evil. And I have Norwegian ancestry. -
Gaming Otaku Brawl Tournament - Got what it takes?
The Spectacular Professor replied to Ellerby's topic in Noosphere
If we're tossing Mario Kart into the mix, I'm going to need to go buy myself a Wii sometime. No wait. Better idea: The OB Ultimate Gaming Challenge of Great Justice Just pick some of the most popular online games of the day and enter everyone in the categories for whatever they have. Personally, I look forward to epically failing in the Pokèmon division. Ideas include: -Brawl -Mario Kart (Wii or DS, or both) -Halo -Pokèmon -MMOs like WoW (have a PK tournament for OB members or something) or anything else anyone can think of. -
question are you a boy or a girl?
I am a guy. Though I understand your confusion. I almost changed my avi to Konata the other day.
No problem. Any idea what font they use for 'Ace Attorney'? If not, I'll just look it up. Also, do you want the text colors inverted as well?
Whoa, thanks! Not sure. I'd prefer if you keep the text the same color if you can, though.
:animedepruh, yeah, aceburner. where's the story you were supposed to write with ME in it? are you *sniff* excluding me?:animecry:
Nyeh? You're in there! Check the end of case 1.

This question reminds me, apparently Leap Day Weddings are pretty popular, too. Seems pretty stupid to me. Think about it: you forget your anniversary, you might as well go out and pick out a grave site.

Alright, so you know what this is. It's all about dubbing. There are good dubs (getting more common nowadays, thankfully) and there's the stuff you couldn't be paid to watch (4Kids One Piece, DiC Sailor Moon, Saban Dragon Ball Z, etc.) Anyway, this thread is here so we can all laugh at the stupid, random or pointless edits of any dub ever. These edits can range from the slightly funny to the ones that just make you go "WTFBBQ?" to the head-pounder idiotic. Examples include: "Sure, Zoro. You can have your swords. Just never clean them. It's too Japanese." I honestly wish they had just skipped airing that episode. It wasn't even that important to the overall plot. (I won't lie. Most of my faves come from 4Kids.) They don't all have to be visual edits, either. they can be dialogue changed to make it sound like a deceased person hasn't really died or other such matters. Anyway, what Editing moments have you experienced worth noting for stupidity?
Either way, Hiyori is awesome and definitely the funniest of the first-year girls. And there should be a reference coming up involving her that you should appreciate, Aceburner.
Found it! I think I had seen that clip before, but I forgot all about it. I get the feeling I know what Konata was playing when she said she used to want to be a lawyer, too. Other references I have enjoyed so far: Just about every time they do Hare Hare Yukai (especially the cosplay cafè bit,) Nico Robin cosplayer at comiket, that censored Gundam scene, the part when Hiyori tripped and felt a desperate need to protect her left hand at all costs (possible One Piece reference, but I'm not sure. It was funny, though) and the FMA cosplayers in broad daylight, just off the top of my head. I also get a good chuckle every time Konata goes to that anime store with the obsessed shonen brigade employees. And Akira's "concert" marked a whole new level of epic for Lucky Channel. I almost feel sorry for her at times.
Aceburner, if you like Yuri, just wait until you meet Hiyori.
Not usually my favorite part of an anime, but I read the Wikipedia article and it sounds like I'll probably like Hiyori, anyway. Those misunderstanding type things are always fun. I'm on episode 15 now, so I'm finally at Yutaka. Also, Konata's dad is officially super creepy. In a good way, though.

Gaming Guitar Hero IV: Rock Band's Future Nemesis
Wow, that's got to be some kind of record. Three minutes after you post the videos they become dead links. That's messed up.
Nah, they're just embedding-disabled. Click on the video screen to see them. -
So what is your favorite line from the book?
It's during the part of the book, I think right before everyone else gets to see Aslan. They try to go through the ford, then they go back to the cliff area and Aslan shows Lucy the secret path. On the way down, she says something that almost sounds smug, but not quite. Then either Peter or Edmund (I forget which) replies with something along the lines of "You're a hero, Lucy! That's the closest you've come all day to saying 'I told you so!'" It's pretty much the best line in the series.
I saw Indy 4 last night with my Dad and I've got to say, I loved it. It was better then Prince Caspian and it was just as good as Iron Man (definitely not better, though). The whole movie was just a real adventure and I was pissed when I had to go to the bathroom for 5 minutes in the middle of it. lol
This has me pumped. I've heard Iron Man is awesome and I watched Prince Caspian yesterday, which I thought was even better than the first Narnia movie. Too bad they cut my favorite line from the book, but stuff happens. Also, nice to hear Shia's actually doing something new here. Makes me feel much better about seeing this.
Keep watching it then, trust me, the Lucky Channel goes absolutely insane near the end of the series.
Very good news. Looking forward to it.
Plus in my opinion, the show just keeps getting better and better the further you get into it.
I'm noticing this a lot. Episode 6 officially has me hooked.
I know I'm looking forward to seeing the OVA when it comes out. Oh and keep in mind... Konata is like a female version of Des... I am not kidding btw. Watching her in action is beyond hilarious.
She reminds me of me a lot, too. Minus the MMO's and Dating Sims, but yeah, Konata's pretty awesome. Anyway, The real reason I'm here is to announce that less than a third of the way through episode 6, Cousin Yui became my uncontested favorite character. That chase scene... And she's a cop... I'm keeping with this series for sure now.
Wendee Lee voices both Haruhi and Konata in the dubs, just like Hirano Aya voices both in the originals.
That's really weird. I guess I just can't seem to get used to her as Haruhi. Probably because I've seen Haruhi clips frequently before watching the actual show but not so much with Lucky Star. Anyway, I've seen 2 episodes so far. My favorite part is still Lucky Channel. Fun show, this one.

Sign Up Otaku Bob and the Recruitment Thread!
OOC: If I went too goofy with this please let me know and I'll fix it.
Nah, that's perfect! The idea is to basically to parody the franchise in the most ridiculous way possible, so nice job! -
EDIT: Also, I forgot to mention that one of my friends picked up the first disk to this with the English dub. As soon as they finish with it, I'm going to borrow it and check it out to see if they did a good job or not.
As far as I've seen... Pretty good. Konata seems maybe just a little deep, but I like it better than Haruhi's VA. I'm a tiny bit disappointed that there's no translated version of the theme, since it's fun to see how a dubbing company interprets those. It's okay, though. The actual show looks like it translated decently enough.

The name's Bob. Otaku Bob. I'm an archaeologist, but not like those boring ones who sit around dig sites and hit pots with paintbrushes. No, I go out and destroy ancient buildings in order to recover little golden statues and stuff. Cool, huh? Anyway, I was approached by a private collector a few days ago. He wants me to find him one of the rarest artifacts in existence. A first-edition, holographic, gold-lettered, chocolate-coated promotional Mewtwo Pokèmon card. I'm not sure what he wants with it, but I know I'll need to get my hands on it before the French do. I hate those guys. Oh, and one more thing. I hate fangirls with a burning passion. There you have it. You get the idea, it's an Indiana Jones parody. So anyway, before we can go on our epic quest to seize the holy pokeymans card, I need some fellow explorers. -1 or more obligatory female assistants -1 small child who doesn't appear to do anything but get us into trouble -1 or more male assistants -a digging crew Sign ups are as follows: Name Age Appearance Short Biography Personality Name: Otaku Bob Age: 34 Appearance: Tall, slightly muscular, tends to have 5 O'Clock shadow, usually wears a Hawaiian shirt with a red background and a fish pattern. Underneath that can be found a T-shirt with a triple delta sign and the words "Hero of Science." Never seen without his signature tan bucket hat. Carries a grappling gun and Katana at all times, though he has only a general idea of how to use the sword. Bio: As a kid, he was trampled by rabid Inuyasha fangirls at his first anime convention while trying to obtain a first edition copy of the first volume of One Piece. He was both traumatized and inspired by this event, and has since become an awesome treasure hunter, specializing in Anime and Manga merchandise lost to the ages. Personality: Short-tempered, sarcastic, slightly vain and jokes around a lot. Have fun and remember to be ready to compromise your sanity. After all, this is a pretty crazy parody.

Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
The Spectacular Professor replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
So I finally broke down and watched an episode of Lucky Star. I was amused. The food talk went on a little too long at the beginning, but other than that it was pretty good. I especially enjoyed the "Lucky Channel" bit near the end. I also caught an episode of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. That was fun, but watching the dub took away from the experience a little. Are they all supposed to sound that old? -
I know my first reaction was kind of a lolwut?!? Followed by laughing at it since I could see Prem saying something absurd like that.
*Points at case name* Get used to it. There's more where that came from. :p Heck, I'll even take some song requests if anyone cares to give them.

- Case 2: Law School Musical - June 20th, 2014 6:24 P.M. Law Offices of Dewey, Cheatem and Howe Ace’s Office “Ace, wake up!” Ace sat bolt upright. “I’m up!” Ace’s office was a total mess. There were papers everywhere. It had been almost a week since Raiha’s trial and all that came of it was a small television in the corner, a Nintendo Wii with Mario Kart inside and a few cups of instant noodles. Ace had dozed off looking through these papers in an attempt to find a new client. “What is it, Chibi?” Ace inquired. “I found us a client! Turn on the news quick!” Ace rushed to the television. After fiddling around with the antenna for a moment, he backed up to see the picture. The reporter on screen was in mid-sentence when the volume came on. “-ve arrested a suspect by the name of Prem Aberinkula in the death of Mr. Tical ‘Digital’ Boy.” “WHA-?” exclaimed Ace. “There are few details known at this time. The suspect claimed to have seen an alien life form, but this report was quickly dismissed.” Ace dazedly switched off the TV. “What’s wrong?” asked Chibi. “I knew those two. This doesn’t fit. Prem practically idolized Digital. Why would he kill him?” “No idea, but we’re about to find out,” chirped Chibi. “You mean-?” “Yep! Prem is our new client! We‘d better go meet him. Visiting hours are almost up!” June 20th, 2014 7:00 P.M. Detention Center Visitor’s Room “Spill it, Prem. What happened?” Prem looked up. “That you, Ace? Good to see you! What are you here for?” “I’m your lawyer,” replied Ace, holding up his briefcase, “I’m defending you in court tomorrow, so give me some info so I can do an effective job.” “Wait,” said Prem, “Don’t criminal trials take a little longer to prepare?” “Don’t underestimate an incredibly corrupt court system based loosely off of a video game,” replied Ace. “Okay…” “Anyway,” Ace began, “I’m going to need more information if you want me to get you off the hook here. “ “Thing is, I don’t have much info for you. All I know is my buddy is dead and I’m the prime suspect.” “I heard you claim to have seen an alien or something. Maybe I can piece together something from that.” “Alright,” said Prem, “Here’s how I recall it: I saw this thing comin’ out of the sky. It had one long horn and one big eye. I commenced the shakin' and I said ‘Whoo-ee!’ It looked like a Purple People Eater to me!” Ace rolled his eyes. “Lemme guess. It was a One-Eyed, One-Horned, Flying Purple People Eater.” “Yeah!” said Prem, “a One-Eyed, One-Horned, Flying Purple People Eater.” “A One-Eyed, One-Horned, Flying Purple People Eater?” “Sure sounds strange to me!” said Chibi. Ace sighed. This was going to be a long trial.

Gaming Guitar Hero IV: Rock Band's Future Nemesis
The Spectacular Professor replied to Aberinkula's topic in Noosphere
After a couple rounds of Rock Band, I'm pretty much not on board for any GH after number 3 unless they pull another one-band wonder and give me a B-52's edition.
