Oh my... XD That was so stupid that it was actually funny! I kept waiting for something in there to back their claims but the moment they attributed Photosensitive epilepsy (I think that's what it's called) to watching Pokemon... *laughs wildly* That was so dumb that it was almost painful.
That's an actual true incident, though. Electric Soldier Porygon The trick is he took it out of contest to illustrate how evil, evil, evil anime is. It has nothing to do with defacing moral values, it's a medical condition that a small sample of the Japanese Pokemon audience happened to have, combined with watching the show in a poorly lit room close to the television. As for morals: Digimon teaches the importance of friendship, teamwork, perserverence, facing hardships, being courageous (I could go through all the crests here, but I won't,) fighting for what you think is right, accepting help when you need it and even dealing with death. Pokemon teaches friendship, following your dreams, standing up to bullies and prevention of cruelty to animals. Yu-Gi-Oh! teaches friendship, dealing with death, playing fair and pacifism at times. Rugrats teaches us to crap our pants and speak broken English.:p EDIT: for more laughs, check out the rest of this guy's editorials. They're all terrible, ignorant pieces of crap, but they make it through because apparently he's the editor.

...But this is just ridiculous. Click Here Seriously, this guy made an entire article about how "teh bad anim00z is destroying ur socyitee!!!" Let's take a look at some of the finer points.
It wasn't until around the fifth grade that I began to think something was wrong. That year, a strange new cartoon worked its way into the social lexicon of coolness. It was called "Dragon Ball Z" and, for reasons my 10-year-old mind could not articulate, it was making me nervous. Ten years later, I can't help thinking that I could have done something, anything, to stop the tsunami of anime that was to come.
Translation by Ace's Babelfish: "There was a new show in town that became insanely popular while I was a child. Personally, I didn't care for it. Instead of just ignoring it, however, I decided to wage a war against the entire genre."
In a society dominated by excess and two-second attention spans, cartoons play a significant role in preparing us for the world. Each can be thought of as a 30-minute babysitter, instilling the kids who watch them with certain values and life lessons. But the landscape has changed.
This guy's either sadly mistaken as to the purpose of entertainment or he has the laziest parents ever.
Before I go any further, I should state the following: No matter who you are - whether you're black, white, Asian, Latino, even Canadian - I don't judge you by the color of your skin. I say this because I direct my comments to the media elites, in Japan and elsewhere, who have taken it upon themselves to flood the airwaves with shows like "Pokemon," "Digimon," and "Yugio" - sorry, "Yu-Gi-Oh!" They all started as card trading games, and should have ended there as well. Instead they've jumped to the mass media, where they're slowly chipping away at our collective moral fiber.
1: The first few lines reek of BS, since he's attacking anime as a genre, which is all made in Japan. 2: Did he seriously just lump Pokemon, Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh! together under a collective umbrella? Maybe if he actually watched what he was dissing, he'd realize how foolish he looks right now. 3: Chipping away at our moral fiber... with the same morals that make it up? Tell me, what important, life-altering messages has Spongebob instilled recently?
It's not a conspiracy. A conspiracy, by definition, requires that multiple parties are working together to achieve some sort of goal. None of the shows I've seen make nearly enough sense to be working toward anything other than a lackluster battle between Bulbasaur and Charmander and the next commercial break.
Again, see how he elegantly judges all anime based on this one scene from this one show he saw this one time.
Don't believe the threat's real? A report from CNN's Tokyo affiliate in December 1997 documented an incident in which "More than 700 people, mainly school children, were rushed to hospitals Tuesday after suffering convulsions, vomiting, irritated eyes and other symptoms." Was it a gas leak at the local school? No. Were the kids breathing glue out of brown paper bags? No. Were they watching "Pokemon"? You bet your authentic Squirtle trading card they were.
Yes, they were, they were watching one small scene from one episode which was never aired outside of Japan because it caused a very small population sample to go into convulsions. But of course bright flashing colors only exist in Japan.
Remember the cartoons you watched as a child, like "Rugrats"? Everyone watched "Rugrats." With his toothless grin and indomitable spirit, Tommy Pickles represented the very best in all of us. He was like a Che Guevara for the MTV generation. Sure, when he and the rest of the Rugrats "grew up" I died a little inside. But still, not a day goes by where I don't take a moment and thank Tommy for the life lessons he taught me. So what is Pokemon teaching the next generation of kids? The virtues of capturing exotic animals and making them fight for your amusement? I already learned that from Michael Vick.
Again, one anime. And lumping Pokemon with Michael Vick is just wrong.
Some of you may be thinking, "That's all well and good, but what about all of the mindless American television?" After all, this country invented mindless television. And networks like VH1 are keeping that proud tradition alive. But the difference here lies in the target audience: Shows like "Flavor of Love" and "Hogan Knows Best" are watched by people who have already been stupid for years, even decades. There's nothing we can do but make them as comfortable as possible.
Patriotism: save the kiddies, give up on everyone else.
The next generations of kids aren't even getting a chance. Unless something is done to reverse this trend, we're going to be looking at millions of high school dropouts who don't see the point in going to college unless it teaches them to capture magic crystals. No one wants to see that day. This issue transcends politics, even religion. It's the ethical dilemma of our day and age, one that makes me want to throw my hands in the air, and yell, "Will someone think of the children?"
That's right, folks. All anime is supernatural and teh devulz. Even Lucky Star and Haruhi. Moreover, there's no possible way for a fantasy to instill values in a person. Guy might as well be dissing Spider-Man for climbing walls when he could be out having problems like ordinary humans (oh, wait.) Anyway, How does everyone else feel? How wrong is he? Is it beyond help? When did obvious troll become obvious?

Anime The Battle Between Manga and Anime (Anime Side)
The Spectacular Professor replied to Nomurah!'s topic in Otaku Central
c'mon!:animeangr first of all, i don't like the anime, period. i agree with your opinion, however, except for the fact that i have a question. have you ever read the manga then watched the anime? and the music in the anime version, i hate as well. period.
Yeah, actually. I do it all the time. I'm about halfway through the Fullmetal Alchemist anime and up to date on the manga. I prefer the manga storyline, but I also think the anime version is interesting because it provides a look at how multiple people had envisioned the story. I also do this with One Piece because I like the music (though that's a matter of personal preference) and the fights are awesome animated.
and, although this is off topic, why do you have a man hitting his head on a computer as your avatar? i think it's cool, just wondering:animeswea
That's Manfred von Karma. I don't really want to spoil the story too much, but he's from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, which is a video game for the Nintendo DS. In the actual game, he bangs his head against a wall. It's a good game. You should give it a try if you ever get the chance.;) -
Discuss Digimon: The First DigiDestined
The Spectacular Professor replied to Ellerby's topic in Theater
That was possibly the single greatest plot mender I've ever read. Amazing. I think I'll stay out of this one for a while unless I think of a really awesome filler. -
One piece (the dubbed version) has picked the most obnoxious, in your face, ringing in your ears voice actor for luffey. It drives me nuts, like to the point of punching the tv then throwing it out the window. And WHY THE HECK IS HE ALWAYS YELLING!!! AND ADDING EXCLAMATION POINTS!!! Its annoying.
Just so you know, that's been fixed now. It's safe to turn on your TV when One Piece is on now (If Cartoon Network ever airs it again and they're not showing reruns.)

Anime The Battle Between Manga and Anime (Anime Side)
The Spectacular Professor replied to Nomurah!'s topic in Otaku Central
I'll side with either, depending on what you mean. If the anime came first, usually I'll prefer the anime version because that is where the story originated and it will probably make more sense in that medium. If the manga came first, I'll usually prefer the manga for the same reason, along with the fact that the anime is bound to eventually be bogged down by stupid and pointless fillers in order to allow the manga to stay ahead in the story. I'll still watch or read the other, though, since I enjoy the story. Also, the music in the anime version can be pretty awesome. -
OB and its members... A Family?
YOU'RE TEARING OUR FAMILY APARTTTTTT!!! Sorry. Wanted to use that dramatic movie quote. Also, I was going to say Akuna Matata... but I'm pretty sure that doesn't mean family in Hawaiian... Yeah...
It's "Hakuna Matata," which is Swahili for "no worries." It's from the Lion King, as well. Not even close, dude!:animesmil You're looking for "Ohana," which is Hawaiian for family. It's used in Lilo and Stitch. Everyone knows their homework assignment, right? Watch Disney movies!
Well, if the Ob did shut down, we could all move to Group Sounds, lol. Then we could all be a family, over there.
Pretty sure Group Sounds is dead, unfortunately. Oh, well, there's always AIM!
...How the hell did we get off on cookies? You mods, and your ways of getting people off-subject. I think the OB should get its on reality show. The Real World: OtakuBoards! Then everyone could see how much worse we are, compared to The Osbournes. The Mods would be least favorite characters on the show, because they suck the fun out of the regular members' souls, and what-not.
Considering a number of our mods and and all three of our admins are more mischevious and fun-loving than most of our normal members, I'm pretty sure all we'll get is a member uprise for the Desbreko Fanclub (which I wholeheartedly support.)
How about we all get on paypal and donate to James, so he can buy a tourbus, and come and pick us all up, and take us to Disneyland? (Shy and Syk3's epic meeting took place there lol)
This is an excellent idea, except we'd need to get him on a plane first. -
Who's the girl Ace? You're mother? Just picking, but yeah I pretty much see what I see in the mirror, a curly haired dork. >_> Really though, I see more of me in you than I see anything 'sexy.' Cuase I've hit cute, tops. :p And I"ve still got a girlfriend, either way I pwn you.
I love the way you've been treating this like a contest even though I only adressed you once throughout this entire thing. I don't feel the need to tell everyone how much better than you I am because I'm happy with me. Who pwns who now?:p

Here's my first actual picture of me. Clicketty. Sexy incarnate. Take that, Prem. I'm the one on the right. The one on the left was my quite attractive date for Homecoming. The picture is a bit out of date, though. My hair is longer now everywhere but my bangs. I hate it when they drape over my eyes against my will.

OB and its members... A Family?
The Spectacular Professor replied to Nomurah!'s topic in General Discussion
Is that why you have no girlfriend, perhaps?:animesigh
It's a combination of that and settling for what I get, actually. For instance, I just ate two tacos after giving up on the search for cookies. Then again, I'm just so darn sexy that I cause mass turmoil whenever I try to pick just one girl, so I stay single in order to keep the peace. It's a sacrifice, but I'm willing to make it. So as for the family thing, Allamorph's my cool older bro now. -

Discuss Digimon: The First DigiDestined
The Spectacular Professor replied to Ellerby's topic in Theater
My thoughts on the continuity: 1: Have a separation event like a huge battle or a "vanishing" (if you've seen the Japanese version of Digimon Movie 3, something like that) and then have the original kids find new partners, possibly using the same Digivice. This option could also set up some fun angst moments later on. 2: Meet up with Gennai (or whoever/whatever) and have them reveal that you've found the wrong partners. Since Guilmon's the only one who's gotten past Rookie so far, that should be explainable. 3: Introduce the new digimon, who insist that the others have the wrong tamers. 4: A wizard(mon) did it. Or we could do as Darren suggested, but that would involve a lot of agreements to arrange. -

....what the hell are you talking about?

You sure you want to know? Because so do I. I can't believe I hadn't thought of it before, but this thread is the perfect opportunity to post a cheesy Jpop song I kind of like. EDIT: Oh, right, I forgot people who sub One Piece are too lazy to translate some words and just let themselves off by claiming the word is more "meaningful" in Japanese. So in case you didn't know: Nakama=friend, comrade, family member, close acquaintance, etc. It depends on the situation. -
HA! I believe that I shall be taking over the world!
I'm sorry, but do you have a four year plan? Yeah, that's what I thought.:p
Btw, Allamorph probably lives in a solitary cabin on the outskirts of Pittsburgh, waiting for the day a women will come by his home with Cookies...or just waiting for a women to meet him face to face. :p I jest, I jest.
That sounds about right. I imagine it's hard to narrow down his options with all those women flocking him 24/7 (I have the same problem,) so he's waiting for the day he gets only one lady caller, preferably one with a plate of cookies. Then he shall wed. -
Discuss Digimon: The First DigiDestined
Ok.. whatever.. Hell Determination has always been a trait i have seen from Kredion so whatever works for you people. I am not completely unreasonable. Now let me see.. Who can i have for a Digimon.. *evil grin* Oh this could be fun.
You may not have Lucemon. I will attack you myself.:p Edit: I just got a crazy idea. Seadramon's now a digiegg. If someone wants him, it would be a pretty convenient plot device. Or you could take the egg and have it hatch into something else. For reference, Seadramon's Rookie form is Betamon. Apparently you'd have to make up your own In-Training form. -
OoC: Works for me. I'm gonna do a little experiment here. James said at one point that he thought video embedding might work well with RP. So, I'm testing it. Let me know if it works. Russel was taken completely by surprise. He let out a strange sound somewhere between a yelp and a grunt as he was dragged into the water below. "Russ!" "I guess I'm done here. Too bad I never got to give this guy a real piece of my mind!" Russ muttered almost happily. "Don't you dare give up that easily, idiot! Seadramon! Give my partner back or I swear you'll pay!" Seadramon just smiled in a menacing fashion, as if daring Guilmon to move. Russel had had enough. If Guilmon was that determined to help him out, he couldn't well give up on himself. In a fit of rage, he looked down and bit Seadramon's tail as hard as he could. Seadramon shrieked in pain. Then he decided to return the favor. Just when it looked like it was all over, however, Russel's Digivice exploded forth in a burst of light. "Holy..." Seadramon was paused in shock. It was the last mistake he ever made. "Dragon Slash!" Exclaimed Growlmon. As he spoke, two large, decorative looking growths on his arms extended and began to glow. Roaring with rage, he slashed wildly. in seconds, Seadramon was no more. "You okay?" Grunted Guilmon, who had changed back since he hadn't eaten much. "Yeah, I'm fine" replied Russel, who was still in shock at what he just saw. "You destroyed that thing!" "I had to. He would've killed you. Besides, he's not dead, look over there!" Russel looked out at the water. There appeared to be an egg floating where Seadramon once was.
I'm still not completely clear on why they've done this. Does any one know? I was under the impression that the main selling point of Adult Awim was the anime. :(
More like their main attraction is the anime. Discuss Digimon: The First DigiDestined
The Spectacular Professor replied to Ellerby's topic in Theater
EDIT: Also, I had another thought. Since things seem to be getting a little confusing with the Digimon and DigiDestined being controlled by two different members what do you guys think about just everyone being a Chosen Child with their own Digimon? We don't have to, I just want to know what you guys think.
I'm adaptable, So I'm fine either way. Besides, it seems to have happened for me anyway. As for crests, I thought of a great one the other day: Adaptability. The ability to roll with a punch and keep your head in any situation. Good? Also, going by the shows, there's usually about 3-5 main arcs with their own "boss." I'm gonna be talkin' spoilers here. Adventure: Devimon, Etemon, Myotismon, Dark Masters, Apocalymon 02: Digimon Emperor, Arukenimon and Mummymon, Oikawa, MaloMyotismon Tamers: Hypnos, Devas, Sovereigns, D-Reaper. Frontier: "Other" Spirits, Cherubimon, Royal Knights, Lucemon Savers: Working for DATS, Merukimon, the Bio-Hybrids, Professor Kurata and Belphemon, Yggdrasill Do we want to use this pattern? It seems to work pretty well. -
"Told you so." "Shut up and run, Guilmon." Russel had discovered a new use for his new friend. He was quite adept at riding horses and figured if anything it would be easier to stay on the back of a four foot tall sentient dinosaur. Guilmon wasn't complaining. They needed to get there fast and he was more than strong enough to give a few piggybacks. "It was this way," shouted Kredion, who was guiding the way for the other four companions. Upon arriving, they found the area in shambles. Seadramon's tail was apparently quite long and powerful, as it had taken out a number of trees along the shoreline. Water was splashing everywhere, and in the middle of it all, there were the Rookie and the Champion, going at it tooth and claw. "Perfect timing, guys!" shouted Veemon. "I don't suppose mind helping me out here?" Without a word, the two other digimon leaped into the fray. As the onslaught continued, the odds were obviously beginning to even out. However, there was still something wrong. As the battle ended, the three beasts were very fatigued. "Hey, Lopmon! Is there a problem?" Rem inquired, "You guys took down that bug thing really easily a minute ago. According to this... digivice thing, this guy's about the same!" "Well... It's just that... We haven't... Eaten in a while," panted Lopmon. "Oh, right, I guess we haven't eithe..." Russel hadn't realized how hungry he was until that moment. His stomach was doing bear impressions. "Well, that settles it," quipped Guilmon. "What do you mean?" "I mean we'll sit here and starve, you idiot. Time to forage!"
