And let's face it, homosexuality will never be widely practiced in the U.S. Racism still exists, but I do believe it will wither eventually. (Not in my life time) Now, since religion has already impeded on this discussion, I'll attempt to address that as well. While there are several verses against homosexual tendencies in the old testament, there are also some in the new testament. (Remember, these men were common folk in an era where only the privileged are lucky enough to learn) The article went on to explain that it's likely the pen never touched paper until several decades after Jesus' supposed life. Furthermore, when you look at the Roman Empire and the Council of Nisei, what could have already been mistranslated (from the apostles to the scribes) was further screwed up when the council decided what officially went into the bible. They picked (under no guidance from anyone but their own greed at ruling the people) what made it into the bible. Who's to say they didn't add a few rules here and there? (And yes, they were rules at that time, punishable by death if you didn't obey) And again, when the Gnostic gospels were discovered (I don't know how much later they were discovered) they were denounced as heresy and completely ignored. I believe the only reason was because, they directly contradicted the changes that the Romans had already decided upon. Finally, if it wasn't bad enough, when it was translated into the english King James version, it was even further misconstrued. You might think that a few words here and there wouldn't make a big difference in comprehension, but several passages have been found that, even with one word difference from the original, changes the entire idea behind the passage. So I'll concur that the bible serves as a guideline to every day life for [I]christians,[/I] but I'll agree with CHW when I say that you can't take every word for absolute truth. The bible wasn't written by saints. (And likely not even apostles) You've got to make up your mind what you think is right. It's not their fault, but whereas, someone who experiments with drugs but doesn't possess the gene would be able to quit easier, someone with the gene finds it a LOT harder even after only one attempt with the drug in question. It's not their fault; they were born that way. I'm not going to get into the argument of whether or not people are born gay because there isn't evidence to support either side. It's all opinion. Instead, I'll relate back to the single cross-cultural rule in this world: "Treat others how you want to be treated." If people want to hate on homosexuals, that's their prerogative. Sadly, the main cause is religion and when you think about it, how can you believe in something that's meant to unite people when all it does is tear them apart? I may be a self-proclaimed atheist, but I do believe that most things come full circle. Call it karma if you want, but I just believe in entropy and coincidence. Everyone has bad stuff coming at them. Figuring out when it hits is the key. I for one, want to be able to say I'm a good person when something bad comes my way.[/SIZE]

I saw them at Warped in Dallas... They sound a whole lot better on CD. (But that's just how some bands are. They may have just been having an off night too) Anyway, I wouldn't even go as far as saying that I like them, but their songs tend to be very addicting. One of my friends who went to Dallas with me, has a tendency to hum one of the tunes from the concert just to get on my nerves. (because she knows it will get stuck in my head all day) So, they're alright by my standards. Just not my normal music preference.

Eh... I don't think having tattoo sleeves makes you impure. Just different. I understand where Crimson Spider is coming from, but I agree more with Raiha on the matter. And while you may not agree with getting a tattoo of your own (for whatever reason) you have to understand that there are people in this world who are polar opposites of you. Therefor, they feel the need for full-body ink. There's nothing wrong with it and I can't understand how seeing someone like that would annoy you. If anything, you should feel sorry for them because their job opportunities are extremely limited at that point.

And actually, now that I'm on campus, I don't even have to worry about it. The union here on campus has a theater and they screen movies for free every weekend. In fact, we got an advanced screening of Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist last Friday... And I'm pretty sure the union theater will be one of the few "select theaters" where Choke will show... (And since it's all FREE, I'm happy)

I finally got a tattoo! It was exciting, although the location definitely put me for some pain... It's on my right rib cage. (and I've been told by numerous people after I got it that they heard the ribs are one of the most painful locations to get a tattoo) It's an anchor with lyrics from one of my all-time favorite songs surrounding it. It sounds lame when I try to explain it, but it really does look cool. And since it has sentimental value, it makes it even cooler!

Granted, the only reason why I ask for it is to show how close the villages are to each other, but considering that Montana is divided directly in half, (and the line goes straight down through the rest of the country) Colorado would be behind the wall's borders. Military personnel have slowly been making their way into the village just like they did last year. They bring civilians with them that moved to different villages in prior years. They order all of us to take time off from harvesting in order to make our village acceptable. They raid our homes to ensure we haven't broken the firearms law. They live in our rooms, eat with our families, and drink our clean water. It's not as though my village hasn't been preparing for the military's arrival. In fact we always have a surplus this time of year for this very occasion, but that doesn't help my stomach settle any easier. The fact that a military officers are sleeping in mine and Grandpa's beds make my insides squirm. Where do we get to sleep? On the floor in the entrance room. At least they'll be out of here in a week. Then everything can go back to that facade of normality. I know better though. My name's Henry and I live in the village of Udaya. I was born and raised with my grandparents, my parents, and my older brother Micah. It was a decent living. I remember when I was five, our family grew the best crops and Dad and Grandpa would travel to the other villages and sell them for a great income. They always promised to take Micah and I along when we were old enough. I had no idea that that day would never come for me. When I was six, my mother "won" the lottery along with six others. She was taken, like they always are, across the border of the great wall. I never saw her again. My grandmother "won" the next year and, she too, was never seen again. Perhaps it's the way that I was raised that has led to my beliefs, but after my father lost both his wife and mother, he held a constant distaste for the government. He publicly protested the lottery and the next day, he wasn't in his bed when I woke up. The government assured us that he probably ran away and they would scan the country for his whereabouts. Of course, no one thought that. We all know he was probably killed, but we pretend he's fine and that he might have found a place where they don't practice the lottery. Lastly, two years ago, when Micah turned 19, he also "won" the lottery. Once again, he was taken across the border and I haven't seen him since. Now, it's just Grandpa and me. He tries his hardest to get around, but he's 86 and probably won't make it to next year's lottery. I have to do all the work, but I can't say I've got the green thumb like my grandfather. Things just don't seem to grow when I touch it. So our family has gone from the best farmers to the biggest winners of the lottery. A lot of good it has done us. This year is different though. This year, I turn 17. This is the first year I get to participate in the lottery. Of course it's mandatory, but it's a big deal. It marks my transition into adulthood. There are 22 others in the village that are making the transition with me and they're all excited. Fools. Most of the folk in town seem to think that winning the lottery is a good thing, but it's like my father always used to say: "The lottery is a death sentence and anyone naive enough to believe differently deserve to die." Let's just say that the lottery damages some, but helps others. There's even a festival this weekend to celebrate the coming of the lottery. I have to register for to make sure that I am present, and I get my own customizable lottery ball with my name and ID number on it. I think it would be a lot easier if they just lined the entire village up on a shooting range; it would probably be more cost effective, but there's nothing I can do about it. If I speak out like my father did, then I'll only die faster. I can only hope to die an old age like my grandfather will most likely do. Of course, he could still win in what is likely his last year to participate. I know he would rather die than win or live to see me win. We're all we have. I know it would kill him if I won. So for now, I'll just have to put up with the soldiers, the rude commands, the constant grunt work and take care of my grandpa as best I can while this stranglehold remains for a week. [i]-Henry Mathys[/i] [/font][/size][/color] [B][U]Brief History:[/U][/B] [SIZE="1"]In the early 1920's a mysterious scientific accident occurred on the east coast of America, prompting the military to move all citizens westward. This was known as the 2nd Great Migration. Although it was different in its intent to the first, the 2nd Great Migration was believed to have saved millions of lives all throughout the country. There were few who elected to stay behind and were either killed by the government or by whatever the government was trying to protect them from. A great wall was constructed around America, literally sealing it off from Mexico. It was divided into two halves: The side behind the wall. (think of a line that intersects Montana and reaches into Canada as well) and those that were not. Populations could not be easily contained in such a small area and therefor, immigration into Canada was forced and eventually these two counties removed borders and became one country: The Northern Great Continent. For a while, life progressed as normal, but laws were passed, which were supposedly for the citizens' protection which banned them from alcohol consumption, firearms possession, and eventually led to having no electricity at all. In fact, most big cities were leveled during this time and those that remained were turned into military camps. Civilians were prohibited from entering. Shortly after that, the government registered all new citizens under the GNC and developed 100 great villages, which were now reduced to colonial living. These are the only villages allowed and civilians must live in one of them. Capture upon leaving a village without permission resulted in death. Soon thereafter, talk about before the wall was prohibited. Those who disagreed with the government disappeared over night and eventually the old days became taboo. Without contact from other countries, these colonial-esque villages live a life of ignorance, providing the perfect opportunity for the government to establish the lottery. Each year, there are 700 winners (7 from each village) who are transported behind the wall and never seen again. It's said to be a good thing, but some aren't so sure. It is a required annual process for everyone 17 and up and it has returned once again to claim it's next set of lucky winners. Well, I never really watched Dragonball. I was more of a Dragonball Z fan. I watched from the Freiza to Cell saga... After that, I lost interest (Probably due to Cartoon Network playing the same episodes over and over that never had any substance to them, but creating the spirit bomb!!! OMG!) So, seeing that I never really watched the Dragonball series, I'm sure I won't care either way as to how the movie turns out... It's kinda like how I feel about the Twilight movie: I hated the book, so I know I'll probably like the movie in comparison. (Although it won't necessarily make it a good movie) I 99% sure the movie will bomb, but you never know! It might surprise you, and the casting list has made me happy. (somewhat) On IMDB, I don't quite recall many of the characters, (besides Goku, Master Roshi, Yamcha, Piccolo, Bulma, and Chi Chi) so I'm assuming the rest of these characters are exclusive to Dragonball??? Either way, I like Chi Chi's casting... And I like Justin Chatwin and Emmy Rossum. Now, weather or not they'll be good as Goku and Bulma, I have no clue. I'm doubting it, but they're some of my favorite actors for a reason, so we'll see how this all translates. Best we can do is wait until April 10th and cross our fingers, toes, minds, and hearts!

Don't feel bad, I hated my PE class... And I was also in football in the 7th grade. (Can you say benchwarmer?) I was always the last picked for games, and I wasn't popular with the football players just because... Well obviously. But as far as running goes. I was in track and did pretty well. Everyone gets that pain in their side when they get tired, but what my coaches always told me to do was to push through the pain. But anyway, if you don't like it, just quit as soon as your able to. (In my school, once we got in 7th grade, we didn't have to be in an athletic class at all unless you wanted) So that's my advice, push through it and then quit as soon as you can. Athletics aren't important anyway. Just a government thing...

From the villagers perspective, they only know that the military intervenes in certain matters. Their only three military laws are as follows: Compulsory participation in the Lottery every year, after 17 No guns whatsoever You must live in one of the 100 designated villages (And an official law that everyone recognizes) Forget the past Other than that, the military grants each village the right to form their own system of government. And the military bases are far out in the country. So really, the only time the villagers see military personnel is during lottery weekend and if they travel to another village (such as to trade crops or cattle, or if they decide to move) they'll see them at a road block. But I understand your question, and behind the wall, the lottery "winners" will discover just how much power science and the military has attained throughout 82 years of oppression. Other than that, you'll just have to wait and find out. And I'm really glad that I've already gotten three replies... As soon as I get the details of the plot worked out, I'll be ready to go! [SIZE="1"]I had this idea that originally was inspired by Shirley Jackson's 1948 short story, "The Lottery." Of course, what the RP turned into was something completely different, so here it goes: In an alternate USA, (that's called the Greater North Continent or GNC) something occurred back in 1921 that caused military officials to demand all citizens move west immediately. Those who refused were killed. A giant wall was built that divided the GNC in two (somewhere down the middle of Montana, just to give you an idea) The remaining states of the GNC were dissolved and 100 villages were set up. (Only 100 were approved by the military so everyone was required to live in one of these locations) Each year, all of the 100 villages hold a lottery with seven "winners." These people are taken across the border to the "other side" and are never seen again. What goes on behind this border? Well, you'll have to find out, assuming this RP gets off the ground... Just a couple of facts: This realm is now very primitive. They were very high tech a long time ago, but after the occurrence in 1921, the villages were reduced to the equivalence of colonial farming towns. The villages are not awarded guns of any type. Only the military carry them. (And yes, they look ancient) The history of what life was like before 1921 is lost for the most part. It became a taboo to speak about it after protestors began disappearing and since so many years have passed since then, most of the elders are dead or refuse to speak. This game will definitely be for mature audiences. There will be tons of violence, gore, death, language, and sex... My opinion on these matters have always been to trust all the players writing abilities. I think most of you know that when we have players who aren't as comfortable with this type, to edit your post a bit. But I don't want the unofficial rating to bar anyone from being interested. If I have to, I'll mark down some of the violence and gore. It will also be short, as I want this RP to finish! And I know that a lot of people get very busy around school stuff, so I know a shorter RP would come in handy. Okay, so what do you think? Interested? Every other second I spent watching this movie was also spent wondering who in the world wrote the script, and what debilitating brain disorder they had self-inflicted to be able to write it. I'll try to think of some other horrors I've seen. Both DiCaprio and Danes were excellent, and even though it wasn't executed very well, the concept was still nice. Agree 100% on Superbad. I walked out of the theatre when I was it the first time. I tried to re-watch it with some friends last weekend, but fell asleep... Can't do it at all. And the reason why I'm staying away from Napoleon Dynamite is because it was low budget... If I included ever low budget movie that sucked, the list would probably never end.

If you ever get curious enough, buy the best of Will Ferrell on SNL. There's some really great skits like the Spartan Cheerleaders, "More Cowbell," and Harry Caray!!! I think I got about an hour into Anchorman before I decided it wasn't worth finishing. And Blades of Glory: 20 minutes tops, if that even. Also, I haven't even attempted to watch Talladega Nights, nor do I ever want to. I already lost too many brain cells watching the preview and hearing people doing impersonations and hearing all the idiotic ringtones created from the movie... I attempted to watch semi-pro as well here recently, but I fell asleep because it was sooooooo boring and stupid. Also, I went to watch Step-Brothers in the theatre not too long ago and I got up and left. (Waste of 8 dollars) What can I say, I'm not as easily impressed by comedy as other people... *shrugs* But still, Will Ferrell rocked SNL!

Well besides the old movies, (which you really have to have respect for considering the new age of cinema) and the low budget, (because they're working with what they have) I find that the worst movies tend to be the new horror/thriller flicks... Most of them are just stupid... The last good thriller I saw was Final Destination 1 and Saw 1... The sequels? Not so good. (Although I always enjoy watching the creative deaths in each of those movies' sequels) Other than that, I'll confess that I've never made it through a Will Ferrell movie besides Stranger Than Fiction. (Don't get me wrong, I love him on SNL) I just don't think he has any good movies, really... OH! I just remembered the worst movie ever: I Know Who Killed Me I know there are more, but the shorter list would be best movies ever because most of the time, I walk out of theatre thinking, "Eh. It was okay, but not great."

[SIZE="1"]Well, for a long time, I was torn between Syaoran from Tsubasa and Kiba from Wolf's Rain. (As far as physical appearances go) And now, after seeing an updated (and far more mature) version of Syaoran from the new season of Tsubasa, it's made my decision even more difficult... So, I'll post them both: [URL="http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/6800/syaoranrm5.png"]Syaoran[/URL] [URL="http://web.novalis.org/images/screencaps/wr7-bishi-kiba.jpg"]Kiba[/URL] Closest look-a-like? Definitely Syaoran, but without the eyepatch. But style-wise? It's uncanny how close I actually dress to Kiba. (Especially considering that I've never really watched that anime) I actually own a shirt and a jacket that look remarkably similar to what you see in that photo. (The shirt happens to be my favorite shirt) Plus, based on other pictures I've seen of him, I commonly wear tighter jeans (like Kiba) and it's exact on the classic black converse. What type of anime I would be in??? Think of the video game "Fable," mixed with "Witch Hunter Robin," "Harry Potter," "X-Men," and a bit of "Akira" thrown in there for the effect of a near apocalyptical world... Basically a school, that kidnaps "special" kids with abilities, trains them to be police soldiers, and then they go out and capture/kill the other "specials" who do bad. My character would be at the end of his training; almost ready to join the force. He would be (like myself) very laid-back and apathetic about everything. Very sarcastic. (Which would come off as arrogant at times) Extremely smart and talented, but doesn't try at anything. Prefers not to be the center of attention, but somehow manages to have friends that put him up as the leader. So just a rowdy bunch of teenagers ready to get on with their lives. Of course, there's a serious side to him as well. There would have to be when dealing with superior officers. (Which my character would see as inferior to his skill anyway) Also, a bit of a temper! Anyway, the plot would involve the group of friends, (plus some others. Perhaps a love interest?) going on their first official assignment which they will be evaluated on and will directly effect their graduation from the academy. On the way, my character, along with the love interest, the best friend, and maybe three others, uncover a terrible secret about the government that they've been recruited into working for... To keep it secret, the higher ups demand for all the student witnesses to be murdered. Two of the six are murdered. My character, the love interest, and the third groupie get away. They become criminals and are then hunted by the very organization which they were trained to be a part of. The best friend goes missing. He's assumed dead. In fact he just denies any witnessing of the incident and resurfaces as a member of the police squad. At first, he seems to be a double agent, helping the runaways, but he's actually betraying them; leading them into traps so he can get a promotion... So the whole story would be about the runaways trying to figure out how to reveal this secret to society, while running from several of their friends who are now hunting them as members of the police. In the end, of course they are able to show the world how twisted the system really is, but in the process, my character, along with the groupie (who becomes my new best friend) and the traitor (former best friend) die in a climactic battle-ravaged last episode a la Cowboy Bebop Style. Only the love interest lives and goes on to help reform the government into an appropriate system. Who cares if I've put a lot of thought into it? So shoot me...[/SIZE]

A surrogate mother is someone who holds an embryo that she has know biological connection to. This has been one of many methods used to combat infertility. Stem cells are special in that they are able to turn into any other kind of cell that's needed... So, assuming that God created these cells, it's also logical to think that he created them for some reason other than reproduction, in his infinite wisdom... Combatting terrible diseases? Perhaps. And right now, the article only says that the british scientists are trying to get their research approved for heterosexual couples [B]only[/B]. This is a way for stem cell research to combat infertility. (The fact that science is able to turn female stem cells into sperm and male stem cells into eggs is a mere side note, despite what the article conveys) So in my attempted unbiased atheism, [I]if[/I] there is an all-knowing God, why would he give us the tools to combat problems like this if he didn't want us to? As far as using it for two men or two women to reproduce: I won't get into that since that's where I become very very biased. :D

The article said that two men would also be able to produce a child so long as they had a surrogate mother. It's the same situation. Use stem cells to transform them into male egg cells... Only difference, male couples could still create a girl or a boy, whereas lesbian couples could only create another female. (as they lack the Y chromosome regardless of the cell... It's strange to think: an XX sperm cell and an XY egg cell. Imagine the massive recall on all school textbooks if this becomes common practice years down the line)

But hey, it helps gays and lesbians, because now they can have children with their partners without having to seek out someone from the opposite sex to be the biological parent. (of course, men would still need a surrogate mother) If that's the case (and there aren't any horrible side effects to either the child or the mother) then I don't see a problem with it. It just sounds strange to think that science has come so far... It reminds of some strange sci-fi novel.
