When I say New York, what do you think of?
Jonesy251 replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
Well when I think of the city I think of Broadway, Rockefeller Center, Empire State Building, The Statue of Liberty, World Trade Center, Central Park, and the traffic. When I think of the state I think of Albany, which is where my grandparents used to live for a few years. They had a great view of the Hudson River and took me on my first ski trip at Lake Placid so I always had a good time when I went to visit. Oh and I can't forget that the Yankees and the Mets come to mind because I'm a huge baseball fan, Braves fan that is! -
I find it funny that people complain about food becoming safer to ingest in order to improve their overall health. These trans fats that are being removed are toxins that the body is not meant to digest. Trans fats can clog your arteries and lead to heart problems at a very early age. However, if you decide to cut them out of your diet completely, the effects of the trans fats that have been ingested throughtout your life can be reversed. I'm glad they've been removed from a variety of foods because I want to protect my body from substances that can harm me just to preserve the shelf life of a product.

I would rather be in Orlando, FL because all of my friends are down there going to see my favorite band. Tonight will be the third night Widespread Panic will be playing at the House of Blues there and I really want to go! Oh well, I'll just have to wait until this weekend to see them.

I'm against the death penalty because I also believe that no one has the right to take another person's life, regardless of the crime that has been committed. It just seems to me that nothing is gained by taking a person's life as reciprocity for a heinous crime. I believe that the people that commit theses crimes have serious mental problems and should receive therapy and supervision before being reintroduced to society. If this is not an option, then they should be confined for the remainder of their lives.

I agree with Gavin. I don't think people should get married just because their parents say they have to marry a specific person. I strongly believe that people should marry for love and no other reason. I would be devastated if my parents chose someone based on their financial, or social status instead of letting me pick someone based on how I felt about them as a person.

I really like Lost too. It sucked me in from the first time I saw it and I started watching it late in the 2nd season so I had to rent the first season to figure out what was going on with everyone. Luckily they showed the episodes I had missed during the beginning of the second season this summer so I'm up to speed now. I can't wait to see what happens next week! The last episode was awesome!

I think Spike from Cowboy Bebop is a total badass too. He's just got this attitude that exudes being a badass and super cool. He gets my vote also.

A Year After Katrina and Rita. What are your thoughts
Jonesy251 replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
This event should be remembered because it happened in America. The poor people of New Orleans were left there for 5, count them, 5 days to starve and die when our country has all of the resources needed for these types of situations but did nothing. It's a wake up call to show what can happen when a disaster of this magnitude strikes and people don't do their jobs. It's scares the **** out of me that people were left to dehydrate and live in such unsanitary conditions because of class, or whatever other reasons they were left without aid. Also, our media covers all natural disasters regardless of where they happen, no countries are forgotten during times of need by the US. -
A Year After Katrina and Rita. What are your thoughts
It's been a year and what are my thoughts? Umm... I don't know. I didn't really think about it. It was just a hurricane, and a *****-cat by most people's standards. Worse hurricanes happen all the time, it's become like white-noise to me. I feel sorry for the Katrina victims, of course, but I don't really consider it to be anything worth remembering... The only reason anyone remembers it is because it made the US realize that hurricanes could happen there too.
Um, this wasn't just another hurricane, it wiped out entire towns that are barely even mentioned by the media b/c the focus is on New Orleans. All of my family is from southern Louisiana and Mississippi and homes that had been in my family for years are completely leveled now. There's barely been any rebuilding yet in MS because they are just now clearing out the remaining debris. I am so thankful to the people that have volunteered to help the people of the Gulf Coast. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by this terrible storm and it is something that I will always remember. -
I don't think I'll camp out for this one but I definitely want to check it out. It looks hilarious because of how ridiculous the plot is. And having Samuel L. in it makes it that more appealing. Good stuff!

I really like Ani DiFranco. I've been listening to her for quite some time and she keeps getting better and better.

I would say my mom because she has helped me through some crazy situations and she's always very supportive of me in my decisions. Also, my great-grandfather because he taught me a lot during my visits growing up.

You today compared to you a year ago
Jonesy251 replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in General Discussion
Last year I was in a serious relationship, living in a different city, owned a house and two dogs, a cat, and some fish. This year, I live in an apartment in a different city by myself with my cat, minus the dogs and the boyfriend. :D -
I've never seen this one, but I ran across this clip and looks pretty funny to me. You might want to try it out if it looks of interest. http://www.kaneva.com/asset/assetDetails.aspx?assetId=7273&communityId=0

The recent commercial that has induced the gag relfex for me is a Draino commercial, I think, or something like drain-o. It's so gross that I have to change the channel as quickly as possible. It shows a couple pouring the product into the drain and then you see this nasty glob flying through the air and it lands on the table of this couple that is having a romantic dinner. The couple that used the product asks each other where the clog went and it flashes back to the table. It has got to be the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. I definitely remember the commercial for the shock factor of how nasty it is, but too bad I can't remember the name of the product. Ha!

My name is Brian which has a Celtic origin and means Strong One. I dig it.

Um, I'm afraid of a lot of things, like hurricanes for one because it knocked my grandparents home right off the foundation and all that was left were a few bricks and one tree in their yard. Scary! I don't care for spiders much either, just the other day I was surprised to find a daddy long-leg in my kitchen and screamed. Lightning scares the crap out of me too because you never know where it's going to strike.

Yes, actually it's made me cry several times. Apparently it's made a few other people cry as well. Good to know. I was surprised to find out that Roger Ebert admitted to almost crying when he watched Grave of Fireflies. http://www.kaneva.com/asset/assetDetails.aspx?assetId=7277&communityId=0

I'm a newbie to the site and wanted to say hello everyone, so Hi. I'd definitely have to go w/ anime on this one since I grew up w/ a love of the t.v. Reading, not so much. Also, I think the voices give you more sense of the characters' personality.
