1.
Solution: Watch the dub first. After you finish the entire series with a dub you will become accustomed to those voices...
I don't know how you can so strongly say that it is the solution. It sounds that you are just saying "Don't like it? Get used to it!" in a long sentence.
The second reason has to do with localization. In this instance, the directors/producers try to find a voice they believe will be better accepted in the United States.
The localization part, I get your point but I have a bit different stance. Ex, If Mickey has low manly voice, I'm sure people say "That's not Mickey!" I'm just saying the same. :animesmil :animesmil
This is why Goku didn't sound like a girl in the American version of Dragonball Z.
I'm sure you know why it sounds like a girl in the original. The voice is originally done by a woman. They did it because Goku was a little kid when the series started out, and it is difficult for grown-up man to voice a little kid. ;)
2. I was surprised to hear many people like the dubbed. Note that I'm not against anything, just want to hear people's opinion. I too agree that when there are lots of humors, it's difficult to be funny with subtitles. Same can be said for non-anime movies as well I guess. one reason that I don't like dubbed ones is that the new voices are too different from the original voices. There are a few exceptions but in most cases, it makes me feel weird to hear voices that don't really match the characters' atmospheres. Yeah, ofcourse one person is speaking Japanese & other person is speaking English, so I'm sure it sounds different, but coundn't they try to find a person with similar tone of voice?
3. Hi, I was just wondering how you like watching your Animations. For myself, I'm a subtitle man. Reason: I like hearing the original voices of the voice actors & actresses. Especially the DragonBall series ... dubbed voices were just horrible in my opinion...
4. yepp they are quite useful. as for men's kimono fabric, I'm not so sure where you can find ones with patterns you like in the states. This site I found has some information on how to make women's kimono. and this site has kimono fabrics for sale. I'm not so sure if you can find exactly what you looking for, but maybe you can start from here. ;)
5. >I had considered buying those flip flops with woven bamboo soles (at least i think it's bamboo. I think that would work great :D maybe you can wrap the strips with tissue papers make it thick, and wrap with the same red fabric you use for the costume. For wrapping with fabric, You can cheat by using staplers :animeswea
6. Animes usually come from Manga, yes. In Japan, there are 3 big name weekly Manga Magazine. "Jump", "Magazine", and "Sunday". Many famous Animations title come from the Jump Magazine. Dragon Ball, Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X was it?), And there are dozens of bi-weekly or monthly Manga magazines. For example, "Oh my Goddess" was published thru a magazine called "Afternoon KC". For animations, there are 3 large categories. #1. Original Animation #2. Based on something else, but don't really follow the original #3. Based on something else and (mostly) follow the original story Example of #1 is ... like all Ghibli movies. they are (well, Nausica has original but) not based on a manga. Example of #2 are... Dragon Ball GT, Ghost in the Shell SAC series, etc... they use characters from Manga, but new stories are made for Animation. Example of #3 are most of the series Animations. but as I wrote "mostly", animation is usually not completely the same. Some animations try very hard to be like the original manga tho. We say these Animes are "Gensaku ni Chujitsu" (they stick to the Original). And ahh... 1 comment on BO-BOBO... it's for kids :p and there are many animes that are ... like that... unfortunately :animeswea I think the original manga was published in "KoroKoro Comics" and the target age is under 12 so you know... lol it's fun for kids to watch people fighting with their nose hair, lol For Record of Lodoss War, it's written by Ryo Mizuno and Group SNE. but original idea was from Hitoshi Yasuda. It has a few mangas that aren't the same with the original novels. oohh.. post got too long...
7. Hi from Japan here :D Shrine Girl => "Miko" costume is still one of the best selling costumes, so if you want to buy one, I'm pretty sure you could as well. Also, the real ones aren't in silk either, since it's not really a kimono. It's more like a work cloth, so it's usually made out of thin cotton. If you want to complete the costume, you might want to pay attention to "tabi" & "zouri" that are "socks & flipflops". For "Tabi", you can just use white socks. For "zouri", Birkenstock has a beach sandal that is quite similar, but you can always use GAP beach sandals, lol. Hope this helps ya ;)
8. Hi all, I'm Jake. Let me introduce about myself a bit. I'm a Japanese anime-lover, and currently I live in Japan. I used to be in the States for 7 years, for hs and univ, but now I'm back :D When I was in the states, I used to watch Anime DVDs with my friends, and they always said how great it would be if they could understand "what they are really saying in Japanese!" SOOO, I took this opportunity to start a website where I introduce Japanese sentences straight from Japanese Animation, and it's updated everyday! So far, I've posted 3 articles on GUNDAM SEED. In the future, I think I can post more from GUNDAM series, and other ANIMEs such as BLOOD+ and all that great stuff. :p So come to my blog and post comments if you like it! Thanks!
