Pani Poni Dash! - Roulette * Roulette It's fun, it's happy, it's bright, it's bouncy! It made me randomly think of the line, "Rollcake Sunday, sandwich Monday," for months! And it has that awesome little dance that Becky does during part of the animation, which I can never seem to find a gif of. It's so very catchy yet I never seem to get tired of it getting stuck in my head.
You've linked to Roulette Roulette. However, all of your details relate to Kiiroi Bakaansu. What you have is oooooooooooo-MAHO! Either way, Kiiroi Bakaansu is awesome and I HAVE a gif of that dance HAHA!
I didn't think Evangelion was all that great myself. Yeah, it's got the psychological stuff going on, which is kind of interesting, and you can analyze it all to hell. . . . But it wasn't actually very entertaining. (Though it probably doesn't help that I'm not a fan of mecha in general.) I can't blame her for not being interested in buying it.
It's ALL a matter of personal oppinion. I find analyzing to just be boring - all the symbolism is crap, it's not like it enhances the story unless your the type who masturbates to the history channel. i just straight-up found it entertaining. The battle scenes are unique, intense, and some of my all-time favvorites. The characters are memorablee and the whole thing really sticks in your mind. And, yeah, I'm a psychology nerd, but it's just deep and that makes it fun. Existentialism FTW.

If you like having your mind throughly raped, buy Lain immediately. It's by far the best show on your list (well, I havne't seen Kaleido Star - it's probably the real #1) as for NGE that's a BUY IT NAOW! series. Currently, the DVDs for Simoun and Welcome to the NHK just started coming out, so if you're only interested in getting DVDs every couple months, those would be two series you'd be wise to invest in. I also highly suggest the nearly completely released Mushishi. As well as the awesome Mai-HiME, which would probably be the most up-your-alley.

Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
No, it's not hentai. Actually, it looks like a fansub group released it today (quick turnover... I guess because it's so short). Most people seem to have liked it a lot more than me... *shrugs* ~Dagger~
Well, having seen others talk about it, I decided to give it a shot. It's probably an understatement to say I liked it - normally I don't have much feelings toward things this short, but I really enjoyed this and hope so much that this might become an actual series. First things first the art was b-e-a-UTIFUL, and I loved the character designs. As for the story itself, it did a hundred times more for me in 8 minutes then I could scrape from 2 episodes of Kannazuki no Miko. The writing was great and I loved how the comedy was subtle, the portrayal of emotions without totally relying on dialogue, all of it fit very well. I can't help but anticipate more! Damn you 8 minutes! -
Considering that I've been watching anime since I was a small child, I would consider myself an otaku. I consider Boondocks an anime because it has such a definitely Japanese art style. Just because an anime has been dubbed and re-written into English doesn't mean its not anime anymore. So if the Boondocks started off scripted in English and was originally done with English voices, I can still consider it anime. If it airs in Japan, I'm sure the Japanese consider it an anime series. But really I don't find it that important to debate. Just a matter of our points of view on the subject.
Indeed. though I sincerely hope it doesn't air in Japan, as the jokes would go over everyone's heads XD Well, really, it goes over the heads of 90% of it's audience, or just about everyone who's favorie character is Riley >_> And Avenged, I agree, A Rigt to be Hostile is much better, and I think the jokes have progressively gotten weaker with time, as I've seen some of the more recent comics 9my newspaper unfortuanetally doesn't carry the boondocks) which weren't that great, mostly for the same reason that I haven't been enjoying season 2 of the show nearly as much as the first one - the jokes started getting reused a lot. You can only poke fun of black america for so long before you run out of things to make fun of and a lot of stuff has to get reused. -
I'm mad that my recent thread with my list of 50 favorites is being totally ignored right now >_> In any event, I'll let you find that for my top favorite, and I'll bring up the ones I've heard since then The opening theme to NieA_7 is awesome. It's sung by this old raspy voice and just sounds great and emotional. I also like the opening to This Ugly Yet Beautiful World, which is from the same person who did Cruel Angel Thesis of Neon Genesis Evangelion fame. It's kind of like that song, but with extra orchestra.
Just watched a short (under eight minutes) yuri ONA called, quite inexplicably, Candy Boy. I don't know if it's a pilot or a one-shot or what, but I'd say yuri fans might as well give it a look... not a big waste of time if you don't like it. I'm not a fan of the twincest angle unless it's treated seriously. When it's done lightly, as in this ONA, you come away unsure as to whether the creators were going for the "pure sisterly love" feeling, or the "it's okay because we're twins or... er, something" feeling, or what. I did kind of like the character designs, though. I just don't understand why they had to be sisters--would've been more to my tastes if they were just roommates or something. ~Dagger~
Maybe I'll look for clips of it. Hentai right? I'll just DL the sex scenes XD Avennged666fold lets just put it this way. An otaku woud never consider The Boondocks an anime. That's jsut the bottom line. The entire debate is a rhetoric in fruitlessness. The only people calling it anime are people who don't watch as much anime, so it might as well not be considered anime. -
Considering that everything except the writing and voices for the Boondocks is done by an Eastern production house, I'd give it that its an anime.
You could say that about any American cartoons. That doesn't make them anime. That's just how it is. -
The Boondocks The Boondocks is always hilarious.
I agree. It's one of the best shows out there, and I own several compilation volumes of the original newspaper comics. However, it's not anime. At all. In fact, it's a show about American urban youth, if it were anime it would pretty much discredit the show entirely. It does have a lot of anime influence, though, as Aaron Mcgruder is apparently a fan of samurai shows. Oh, and since I didn't list my manga at all before, i'm reading Nazo no Kanojo X which is just plain awesome. I'm trying to DL the complete translated Yume Tsukai manga but I can't get any goddamn seeds!!! Oh, and go watch Baccano. If Pulp Fiction were an anime, it would be Baccano. -
k. Well, there's the kids at my lunch table/in my classes (same kids - I got lucky) whom I talk to. We just talk about stupid ****. What's funny is, whenever someone new comes to our table, they either leave after 1 day and never return, or they never leave XD. It's the sort of love or hate group that's fun to be in - I'm ALWAYS the center of attention. There are 3 people who I actively hang out with outside of school. the first is my UBER-OTAKU (way more than I am) friend who's a hikkikomori genius that recently tested out of school and spends most of his time bored. He and I talk a lot on Yahoo messenger and we go to each-others houses on weekends for anime marathons. Next is my goth extremely-metrosexual friend who is slowly but surely becoming an otaku. We've been hanging out since last year when I met him in Japanese class, introduced him to Tenacious D, and we sat there and sang their songs throughout class. He comes over to m house a lot - I won't come to his cuz he lives in the ghetto. He and I play a lot of videogames and watch videos on youtube. Recently, though, I've been majorely getting him into anime. He comes over often these days. Finally, there's my younger brother's best friend, who unfortunetally had to go to a different high school this year. however, he still comes over every weekend. He only ever wants to play video games or just have fun doing whatever. It's very rare for me to go to others' houses, because most people want to come to mine. We have so much crap it's rediculous, you can pretty much find anything at my house so our friends have always come over here. As for actually going out to do things, I've never done it, and I've never had friends who invited me to do such. Because my friends are all either nerds or they're poor, lol. i have some otther friends who want to come over, but never manage to. My hikki frend is the first one to ever have a more awesome house than mine (otaku ****ing paradise) so I actually go to his house more often.

Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
Copied from m3h blowg. WARNING: If you’re cynical to the effect of anime on persons, you migt as well not read :p WARNING 2: SPOILERS FOR HITOHIRA AND MANABI STRAIGHT So… to start, a couple days ago my brother and I marathoned Manabi Straight. I was initially watching this show when t was first being subbed, but I lost track around episode 8 and simply never got back to it. Little did I know how much timing would effect my perception of the show. Anyone who’s watched both Manabi and Hitohira will immediatel draw parallels between the two. First of all, both are stories of a small group who wants to fight against all odds to keep their club alive. In a lot of ways, though, the stories are sort of opposite. In Manabi Straight, Mikan starts as the only member of the student council, but gradually she is surrounded by friends who help her push forward. In Hitohira, Mugi is dragged into an already existing tight group of friends for whom she must be the strong one. Still, both of them are a similar journey of a shy girl who needs the help of her strong friends to keep their time alive, even if they know it won’t last. In Hitohira, every odd is against the club, and you can pretty much tell right off that
there’s no chance in hell that they’re going to make it.
Similarly, in Manabi, the girls are fighting almost
for a lost cause because they know that their school fair will be he last one and that their school is dying anyway, but they still push on.
Both of these shows take an extra responsibility, though, in the end. These are no fairy tales, where the big event comes, everything is glamorous, and then the show ends. Nono, both of these shows feature the constant climb to the top of this mountain that is their utmost goal, and both also watch the characters as they climb down the other side - and at some points, tumble on their way down. Hitohira probably does the better job of exploring this part of the journey, if only because it took a couple more episodes after the big event. After this whole long journey - this battle to preserve that one moment, all the growth that comes along with it, the intense struggle… when you’ve reached the pinaccle of your journey, what happens next? That’s the million dollar question. In Hitohira, there is a lot of drama put into
Mugi’s last attempts to hold onto her time of happiness, and he wanting to stay with her senpai and the others who have to move on.
In Manabi, it’s more collective as we know that everyone will be
moving on together, and Mikan is relieved of her stress much easier.
I think Mikan is simply a bit stronger than Mugi, though both are admirable in their conquest in the end. The most important difference between the two, and the one that made me so happy to watch Manabi Straight later than Hitohira, is the ending. I don’t really know whether to call Hitohira’s ending a ‘happy’ or ’sad’ ending. It’s simply a ‘real’ ending. At the end of Hitohira,
Mugi is somewhat optimistic, only promising herself that one day she’l cross that bridge into the outside word as well. But we don’t really know what happens. In the end, all we know is that she will one day have to move on, but whether she does so successfully or not is left up in the air.[/spoler] Meanwhile Manabi’s ending is much more
fulfilling. We see everyone move on. We see them happily in their futures, and we see Mikan come back for a visit, and we know exactly how it goes for them.
I can’t tell you how thankful I was for this ending, though the night after watching this show, I had a complete breakdown and was bawling my head off ^^;; Hitohira had left me questioning my own future. Being a child about to go into 11th grade, I have a lot of questions about my future, and I’m terrified to have to walk out into the world. Hitohira was like a reflection of my own feelings in Mugi. I’m just like her - timid and not ready for what’s ahead. So seeing Manabi Straight
bringing everyone into the future and showing that there really is a great time to be had, and that your life isn’t going to change to the point of destruction
was greatly appreciated. I don’t really want to talk about myself to much here, but I have to say, Manabi Straight gives me a lot of confidence in my future, and really was a moving experience for someone in a position like my own. It’s really a shame that I don’t appreciate my school life more, and that the people around me aren’t like the characters in anime, lol. If you haven’t seen either show, i think it’s best to watch Hitohira first. Hitohira is a more depressing series all around, whereas Manabi is constantly uplifting. If your like me, you’ll definitely appreciate the experience.
A continuation, even though I doubt anyone's interested. This time, though, it’s in regards to my just completing NieA_7. Back when I made that other post, I was in a state of wondering what was going to happen as a result of a coming large event, just like the characters in those shows. However, once again my timing was perfect and I managed to match up with Mayuko in NieA_7 as I wached it. This time, the series has a bit of a different take on this similarity. Whereas Manabi Straight and Hitohira are effected by some large event, Mayuko sufers a similar dillemma in her everyday life. Instead of going from one normal to something completely new and not knowing what to do, she struggles with wether or not what she’s already doing is the right thing as well as the worries of change. I think Mayuko’s situation and reactions are the most realistic of the bunch as well. Both Manabi and Hitohira use drama to their advantage - in one case, harsh drama and in the other, comedic drama to portray their points. NieA_7 is instead a quiet contemplative take on the issue that focuses on Mayuko alone and her own dealing with these problems. The things that make Mayuko’s situation exquisetely written in my view is the exact way she is effected by others. Which is to say, they don’t have drastic effect on her, but she does consider their views. Whereas the decisions of Mikan and Mugi are heavily influenced by their inspirational counterparts, Mayuko is pretty much left to think about these things by herself, and the words of others are only considerations. Like Manabi and Hitohira, NieA_7 also has a different kind of ending entirely. As said in the other post, Manabi ends with
everyone succeeding
, and hithoira ends with the characters
having a new focus on life
. However, NieA_7 takes great care to portray a lack of change. It shows how, in the end, things don’t ever really change as much as you might think, and even ends
in the same way it began.
In some ways, i might call this the most mature of the endings, though Manabi is still my favorite because it actually
takes that extra step to show you the future
, however, in that regards it’s philosophy might be opposite to NieA_7’s. In any case, all three are excellent series, and all interesting outlooks on life. So far, ef seems to contain a lot of these elements as well, but in a more adult light and with far more intricacies that i will definiely be posting about when the series comes to an end. -

What do you do when you are sick?
But if you don't go, then you're not only taking away money from the school, but you are also eliminating a part of your resume =( Besides, you won't have to catch up if there's nothing to catch up on (if you go to school regardless of health). And ultimately, you'll learn more =P I mean, I know my limits though. If I'm so sick, I might literally die if I go to school, I won't go to school. That's sorta the reason why I didn't get a perfect attendance award last year, since I had to go to the emergency room >_>
I make sure to miss exactly 6 days per semester. That's the maximum you can do without failing, but I don't want to miss any less, either, because those are missed opportunities. I usually manage well enough since I am very easy to get sick. -
Would you rather I be existential? I'd like my ceiling to peer into the depth of the universe, past the walls of human thought to eternity. Or perhaps I'd like an image of a spiral churning through the depths of infinite potential as a reminder of my endless quest toward completion. The blue sky idea reminds me of the anime Sola. That was one of the things I liked about that show. Wouldn't mind a TV on my ceiling. There's no confortable way to watch the TV from your bed, IMO. though it would take getting used to. And my ceiling/wall wouldn't work with it.
Yeah, I see your point, but faces can be drawn differently and still be attractive. I guess my main beef is the fact that they don't even try; everyone would be carbon-copies if you just took away the hair. I will say that I love the character designs of Mononoke. I might be gushing because I'm also taking into consideration the overall style of the anime, but it was so refreshing to see unique character designs within every episode.
Go watch the movies Mind Game and Tekkon Kinkreet (sp?). Definitely the most unique character designs I've ever seen. Also, I find that a lot of seinen manga has different desing - usually far more mature and realistic. PLANETeS migt be a good example of this. EDIT: a little late, but Dagger, I agree NieA isn't the best design, buut some of the show's characters are~ And THIS GUY lol. I fid it unlistenable. Just too ****ing boring, and I listen to piano melodies. As for Maynard, he just does whatever he wants. Prolly gunna round off all the intense touring and go back to his vineyard.
I like the manga art better than what I've seen of the anime, although neither inspire a strongly positive or negative reaction. From what I've heard, their stories are different, so it might be possible that the anime characters don't actually have manga counterparts. ~Dagger~
Having read the manga and continung to watch the anime (my second favorite of the season thus far) i can confirm this. There are none of the same characters, because the anime is a distant prequel of the manga. While I am more than aware of those facts, the reason for such a sweeping generalization is that there is SO MUCH shoujo that I have seen the designs for and hated. At least 95% of the shoujo characters I saw were the same, and I hated them. Now, since I don't feel like naming all the 5% i did like, i'm just gunna leave it at 'I don't like shoujo designs' for now, because you do get what I mean. There are prolly some designs I like ( I don't mind Peach Pit, especially their desing of amu. usually, at least.) but I'm not getting into it when there are other designs to be mentioned.
Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito
Now see, I've only ever seen it compared to Kannazuki no Miko (both yuri, but I also think they were both based on VNs by the same company?) but I figure I can trust you before crappy yuri fans - is it any good? -

In terms of ones I dislike, pretty much all shoujo and bl designs. Just hate em all. The chicks are always creepy-looking and the dudes look like blocks - or like chicks, and then still like creepy-looking chicks. Guess it's cuz I'm a guy? I'm, unfortuenately, a moe-fan XD though I'm still picky even when you get down to that category. I like things small and cute. Simplistic, but elegant. however, I also appreciate when something is very unique or carefully detailed. When it comes to an individual designer, I absoluetly MUST pick Yoshitoshi ABe. The ultimate fusion of cute, simplistic, elegant, detailed, and simply ****ing beautiful is found in his work. His most beautiful designs probably belong to Haibane Renmei... ...though my favorite chacter is Lain (see Moe Points for image dump) And then his darkest characters are in Texhnolyze I even own an artbook for Serial Experiments Lain. Nazo no Kanojo X (Mysterious Girlfriend X) is... an odd tale to say the least. The main character is Tsubaki Akira, your normal good high-schooler. However, the story begins when Urabe Mikoto transfers into his class. Urabe is an antisocial girl who sleeps through breaks and lunch. One day, Tsubaki goes back to the classroom to grab something and Urabe is still at her desk, fast alseep and drooling a puddle. Without thinking, he puts his finger into the drool... and tases it! The next day, Tsubaki feels rather sick and winds up with a high fever, staying home from school a few days. While he's in bed at home, he gets a visit from Urabe. Urabe gets him to admit that when he saw her laying on the desk, he fell in love with her, and she reveals to him that he is having withdrawal symptoms from her drool - that he's become addicted to it. And so the two set up a ritual where they walk home from school together and each day, before they part, Urabe lets him laste her drool via licking it from her finger. Before long, Tsubaki and Urabe become girlfriend and boyfriend. Nazo no Kanojo is awesome in more ways than I could easily detail. First of all, it's a manga that isn't focused on courtship like everything-else but about the growth of the characters' strange relationship. We continually learn more about the characters' emotions and -shock!- the relationship actually progresses! Not only that, but the pair have the most awesome way of communicating emotions ever - via drool and dreams. Urabe is probably one of the most original and awesome characters I'vee seen in a while and she's got the best down-to-earth attitude i've seen pulled off. Both of the characters are very 3-Dimentional in emotion and attitude. The first volume of the manga almost exclusively is about the two characters, and a lot of it takes place in the same scenery (the way home) but in chapter 4 we are introduced to Tsubaki's friend Ueda and his own girlfriend whom's relationship in some ways parallels Tsubaki and Urabe's. There is a lot of oddity going on in this series, but it doesn't flaunt itself. Urabe's hobby is to carry around a pair of scissors in her panties and chop things to bits, for instance. And there are seeral scenes (usually a full-page illustration) of Tsubaki's dreams with Urabe (usually very intimate) in a strange world. Plus the whole drool thing is just odd. But the main focus is the relationship and emotions which are done extremely well. The story is very warmhearted, too, with a bit of a comedy aspect to it. The manga-ka also did the story Yume Tsukai which is apparently known for being rather disturbing due to "oddly placed sex and the like" so I'm sure we can look forward to no limits in what to expect in this story.

You'd think that if female gamers can enjoy playing as a male in BL games, then male gamers wouldn't mind playing as a girl in yuri games, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I've seen a lot of comments (frequently from players themselves) to the effect that they need a male protagonist to identify with, even in almost-yuri works like OtoBoku, whose main character cross-dresses with great success.
High on my list of 'things that piss me off'. there's a shortage of yuri all around, though, in anime as well. I go to look for yuri shows and can only find a rather short list. And the biggest problem wih a limited supply is that it's not like all of them are good. I think it's troubling how yuri fans seem to 'take what they can get'. In fact, you can read my blog post about it. I don't play eroge, for the simple reason that I can't read Japanese, can't pay for services, and don't have the sheer HD space to go downloading them. however, if I had a way, I'd be doing exactly what I do with yuri anime - going down that list, checking them all out, and being disappointe at how few good ones there are.
