My friend bought it, but none of us could tolerate the aiming. He kicks *** at it and said 'this would be my top shooter if the aiming didn't suck' but as things stand he's planning to sell the game if it isn't patched in 2 weeks.

Currently listening to the Souvenir of Tokyo video - a live performance of various songs from the Cowboy Bebop OST with Yoko Kanno and her extended jazz band the Seatbelts. It's an absolutely amazing concert. Even though the video looks like it was shot in the 70s, the sound quality is superb and the performance is movingly great. True jazz brilliance from Bass Queen Yoko Kanno. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-TAxm00jOg&feature=channel

Feeding, nappies... and PlayStation
2010DigitalBoy replied to Rachmaninoff's topic in General Discussion
I didn't read the whole thread, but I'm very surprised that this is considered surprising. A lot of very young, very pregnant girls go to my school, and when i lived inner-city in 9th grade half of my damn class was pregnant. It's pretty common these days... sadly. -
Notice that this thread isn't called 'your favorite fma characters.' Instead of everyone writing a post about why they love X character so much, I'd like to get some real discussion going about them. So to kick things off, and I know this is a real lame way to post, but effective, I wan to redirect you to a recent post on a friend of mine's blog about Roy Mustang. He does a great job of getting a huge discussion ball rolling, so I figure that's a perfect starting point. Post here - it is devoid of obscenity so don't worry: http://ghostlightning.wordpress.com/2009/02/23/character-roymustang/

A metric ton of underwear. Hopefully not TMI, but I take my clothes off to sleep, and a lot of the time, since I am just putting clothes on to go across the house and take them off again before a shower, the underwear get left behind. For similar reasons, there are a lot of socks. There also looks to be a TON of trash. Most of it is wrapping from DVDs and other things as well as the bags those came in. There are also 2 empty 2 liter Mountain Dew bottles and a variety of other empty bottles. Some other clothes as well. And batteries. My 'Manga - 60 Years of Japanese Comics' book is under there for whatever reason. Cough medicine, a stack of school papers, a plate thing from a guitar hero guitar, a back massage device, pencils, a Haruhi pillow, and other crap that's harder to identify.
I don't think that SFIV is that shallow to where "pro combos" can be pulled off by anyone that picks it up after not playing fighting games seriously. A lot of the earlier games in the SF series condition people for what to do in SFIV. Not to say you are bad or anything, I just find it hard to pick up SFIV in high levels without knowing some stuff...like linking vs cancelling....Kara Cancelling, mixups....etc etc.
"Pro" is a figure of speech here, I'm not saying I could compete or anything - as I said, I lost in the very first match of my local Gamestop tourney. And even then, I'm not saying I learned this stuff instantly, I did some very intensive Ken training for about a week playing at least 20 or so hours before the tourney. However, I've never ever been able to pull off anything in other fighting games. Even in my alltime favorite, Guilty Gear X2, I've always sucked at trying to use any kind of strategy beyond clever usage of my characters' stats. This is the first fighting game I've ever been good at.

I've only read a couple books of the manga which I thought kind of sucked int he face of the adaption. But, really, following the manga or not I have total faith in Bones to make something amazing. And I'm glad it's not a sequel since I won't likely finish the first series in time for the second =_=

This has quickly become my second, possibly alltime favorite fighting game. I unfortunately lost in the first round of my local gamestop's tournament (I was also the first match!) though it was such a great fight I didn't mind. So far, I've spent most of my time playing Ken, since I couldn't use unlockable characters for the tourney and he was my best choice. However, I kick far more *** with Cammy, so now that the tourney's over I'm using her. I have to say, I've never been so good at a fighting game before. Maybe it's just that I'm finally learning how to play them correctly, but this is the first fighting game where I've managed to string together combos like a pro and kick some real ***. I'm definitely loving that sensation.

My friends are of a variety of races. We all constantly make racial slurs at each other. Race isn't what determines my friends - sense of humor is.

Anime OTAKON '08: the saga continues...
2010DigitalBoy replied to Dragonboym2's topic in Otaku Central
Last years otakon was BY FAR my life's greatest experience, and I fully intend to go again this year. which means I need to hurry up and get some money >_< -
I'm listening to The Protomen. For those who don't know, they write insanely epic, dramatic rock operas about Mega Man. It's as amazing as it sounds, and I can never get enough of it. Beutiful music.

This is the year that I am finally freed from breaking a mirror in 02! I'd say my good luck started last year, though in the long run I didn't necessarily accomplish anything special last year, so I guess this is where the ball gets rolling. You can call it superstition, but the timing of my relief from this curse is insanely impeccable - as much so as any insane event that happened in accordance with premonition over the course of last year.

As a huge Shinbo fan, I had very high hopes for this show. However, I didn't like the first 2 eps very much. Then the 3rd came and changed all that with plenty of awesomeness and the final countdown. The fourth was nice, too. I am a fan of the girls in Kanako's harem, all of whom are just great. the show's vocal talent is of the chart. Maria is okay but he mostly pisses me off because he's just such a total jerk. Normally I'm huge on traps, but this one just infuriates me. Anyway, I did blog posts on the first 4 episodes which are much more informative, but I warn that they are swear-heavy. Quotes: The silly, the strange and the questionable
2010DigitalBoy replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
"Communicating with the presence of eternity in the soul of the earth" - Originally my way of explaining the anime Arjuna in one phrase, became the deinition of my spiritual beliefs. I just enjoy the phrasing. Also my senior quote. I could do a bunch from anime, but they'd be... from anime. I guess there's the classic from when my little brother was like 9... "Is July fourth the fourth of July?" -
: O! An awesome idea! I'll have to watch the other episodes of Lovely Complex first, though it's a show I've been interested in so not a problem... though most likely I'll just watch the rest of it since I'm unable to watch a show over multiple weeks like that. Kure-nai, however, I've already seen twice, and always have time for! I can't wait to see people's reactions to episode 6, the greatest episode of anime ever. Oh, and if you're going for great underground shows, The Legend of Black Heaven is the most underrated show of all time.
You're a guy DB, even though it goes both ways... usually... it's the guy who asks someone out not the other way around (at least where I live). =P And yes I know this doesn't cover all scenarios...
ZETSUBOU SHITA!!! Oh well. Like I said, I don't have a love interest, so I'm not going to be asking anyone out. I am new (rather, not even a beginner - have never begun) to this whole dating thing. And maybe I should stay that way? This is why I hate holidays. They invoke such confusion.
-
I don't have any V-day plans since, as I'm sure many of you aren't surprised to find, I still lack a 'love interest.' However, I'm actually not taking my bets off of a girl confessing to me this year. Some informants have told me that there are girls who have a crush on me (though I've yet to ask for the list) so maybe I'll be lucky. Or unlucky? Or a heart-breaker? I guess it's time to actually put my standards to the test! More seriously, I'm not even sure how I'd react to that. If a girl asked to go out with me I'd just ask "are you serious?" "are you sure?" and possibly "I kind of feel bad for you." What if she tries to kiss me? I'd definitely have to warn her about how long it's been since I last brushed my teeth! Luckily for me, I don't have any real crushes. There's 'that cute girl in my art class' but her personality is like a brick wall that all conversations ram into. Ideally, my valentines day would probably involve cuddling under a blanket and watching Hidamari Sketch (and maybe later on Hatsu Inu?!) but I can't say that doesn't describe my general ideal day. And that's no first date anyway, so it's auto-reserved for a later V-day. Oh, what a mess. Most likely, it'll just be me telling myself 'keep expectations low' but still being a little disappointed when no one asks me out. Will make sure not to schedule any depressing shows.

Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
2010DigitalBoy replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
I attempted to watch Overman King Gainer, which was a lot of fun but the totally nonsensical lolTomino story and lack of character presence made it more bad than good and I gave up after 7 episodes. Very disappointing. I've been reading the very excellent Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind manga. If oyu liked the film, the manga is a must. The mere fact that it is 8 volumes long is a testament to the amount of difference. -
Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
2010DigitalBoy replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
I'm currently watching Great Teacher Onizuka which is as amazing as it is inspirational. Much as I absolutely adore Boogiepop and the like, it's nice to see a psycho-sociological show with a light tone and humor as opposed to darkness and discomfort. It's a show about the ultimate psychologist in the form of Japan's greatest teacher. Nothing else has so much made me want to take up teaching myself. -
Ahh, whats wrong with inuyasha:animestun i love that show. though i do agree with you on dragon ball z. What i miss in ruroni Kention. I loved that one but they got rid of it. sadness. Oh well to each its own i guess
haha, that post is very old, but I still do find Inuyasha irritating. The characters don't progress at all in spite of the things that happen to them. You'd think there would have been some development, but nothing ever happens. They spend the whole show cahsing one villain and the same plots are reused and recycled as they go infinitely on toward that goal. The attempts at drama and romantic tension are repetitive and the fight scenes derivative. It's a shame too since Takahashi's other works are much better.

I've been loving this show. I was a little skeptical at first just because the pacing sucked at the beginning but it picked up and got great. I am a huge fan of studio Bones and this director in particular, so I was excited about the show from the beginning and I'm glad that it turned out very well. I will now copy my post from after seeing episode 41 on my blog. Here's a link as well to a post I did on my favorite moment from the show, giving it an analytical view: http://21stcenturydigitalboy.wordpress.com/2009/02/02/anime-moment-of-the-week-soul-plays-piano-soul-eater/ ------------------- I?ve spent the past five or so days watching all the currently available Soul Eater episodes (hence my lack of posting in this time) and creating another conundrum on my MAL profile (47 eps? oh god, I can hear the comments already?) Back when the show was airing, I watched the first 6 episodes and was very torn with my thoughts about it. Most of this sprang from the show?s lack of direction in the beginning and a few lackluster early episodes. However, those episodes seemed better on the rewatch (possibly my lowered expectations?) and then once the show?s proverbial ball started rolling, it?s been consistently kick--- I really don?t want to get too in-depth here since there is a lot to say about a show this huge and this thorough which I?d rather do in a comprehensive post once the show is complete. For now, though, I?ll just do a little fanboying over some things. First of all, I have absolutely loved how this show takes things that at first seem meaningless and makes them turn out to be important. Almost every random side character has turned out to be of value to the story. Except or Excalibur. But I?m sure that will happen at the very end of the manga or something. Anyway, characters like Blair the Cat, Ox Ford, and that one dude with the hundreds of samurai swords all made very triumphant returns that made me smile. Oh, and Sid-sensei. That guy is ------- made of win. Which brings me to this show?s strong point - a really amazing cast of characters. This is the first shounen anime I?ve ever heard of with such a completely ensemble cast - I honestly have a hard time considering Maka or Soul to be the main characters. It?s difficult to decide what makes an ensemble done ?well? but lets say I definitely like all the characters having plenty of episodes dedicated to them. And it?s not just the three main teams either, we get episodes about just the villains or side characters, or even EXCALIBAAA!!! As a matter of fact, episode 41 was all about professor Stein. While there is no particular character who stands out so much as to be one of my alltime favorite characters, there are very few that I don?t care about and a lot that are a consistent joy to watch. So lets get it out of the way - favorite characters. My list is topped with a tie. First off, there?s Chrona. Long time readers may have learned that I?m a really HUGE fan of characters with a -------up past and a broken mind who reform through friendship. I fell in love with Chrona from the second time she said ?hey, my blood is black, you know?? She?s the perfect mix of lonely, demented, and adorable. Plus androgyny is a plus. I also find her relationship with Ragnarok interesting since he?s such a total ---hole and yet doesn?t really seem to bother her and they have some kind of almost camaraderie. My tie is with the bad--- among bad---es, Soul Eater himself. Once more, he was a character I loved from the beginning with his style, sharp teeth, and obsession with ?cool?. However, I didn?t expect him to be so deep. At first he was kind of a joke, but he ended up being the most serious and contemplative character in the show. Above anything, Soul is just outright interesting. I?m always drawn in when he?s on-screen. But more than anything is the room in his mind where he wears a dress suit and acts cool. That room constitutes all of my favorite scenes in the show. That?s my kind of style right there. I also love how Soul always seems to understand the exact circumstances of what he does and makes his decisions with that understanding. Just under those two is Prefessor Stein, who is just totally made of win. He?s struggling constantly between complete insanity and mild reason. Stein is the ultimate ?atheist? type character (or rather, chaotic good?) who questions the world and tries to understand it on his own terms while always testing things to find a deeper meaning or interesting truth. Plus he laughs like a madman in a rain of blood - that shit?s just ----win. I?m a fan of pretty much everyone else as well. Maka is cute and fun, Black Star beams with a confidence that I can only respect, and Death the Kid is OCD as ever. Kilik is awesome, but that might be my auto-bias toward black anime characters. Sid-sensei always makes me smile when he?s got his whole spec-ops thing going on. There?s too many more to name, dammit! All great! The only people I?m not really interested in are the Arachnophobia team - they are all pretty flat and boring. Medusa is a much more interesting villain and definitely fills me with rage-hate. Highlights from the series, first of all any given fight scenes, which Bones beautifully brought to life. Some of the best are the rematch between Black Star and the samurai dude, said samurai dude against Sid-sensei, and Tsubaki versus the Fey blade. Episodes 20-25 or so were all just ------ splendid, but the cake was certainly taken by Maka resonating with Chrona and turning her good. That whole episode had fantastic directing, but the whole desert island part was especially nice and then the dialogue afterward brought me near to tears. As mentioned earlier, any of the Black Room scenes were boss. The line where the demon says ?madness and discord awaits? and soul eater just replies ?I can?t wait? made me smile real wide. Maka and Soul dancing and Soul?s piano concert were also two of my favorite moments in the whole show. Of course, one cannot speak of highlights without mentioning Excalibur. All of the Excalibur episodes made me laugh out loud, especially episode 17 where they did a ****ing West Side Story parody which made me WTF hard. Oh man, and the preview for ep 32 where Maka sang the Excalibur theme was sexy. Excalibur~ Excalibur~ From Unity-King I?m looking for him I?m going to California~ I have been annoying everyone in my house by singing this excessively. I can?t get over how good Excalibur is with the ?L? sound. As for negatives in the series, the early to mid 30 area was really jumpy as hell. Plot elements were soaring out of every direction without warning. But it wasn?t a big problem, and the show is pretty back on track now. Episodes 39 and 40 were both excellent and so I?m liking that the series is progressing nicely toward a foreseeable epic finale. I?ll definitely be rooting for a second season. In the meantime, I probably should hurry up and finish Fullmetal Alchemist since that too is getting another season. God I love Bones
I just started watching it like yesterday because I thought it was interesting to watch. Right now I just finish watching episode 13 of the Haruhi in Wonderland episode. So far its pretty funny with Tamaki and his weird but funny imagination about Haruhi. I haven't read the manga yet, but soon I will. So far my favorite chracter would be Haruhi and Honey, but mostly Honey because he is adorable and funny when he acts cute.
Ah, Haruhi in Wonderland was definitely one of my alltime favorite episodes of anime. An example of truly excellent directing and a great way to tie everything that happened in the show so far into a fantasy plot and then even push it further byt showing where the development was headed. Brilliance.

Anime Voice Actor Thread of Loving Lovitude
2010DigitalBoy replied to Shinmaru's topic in Otaku Central
oddly, I love Mamoru Miyano, especially as Death the Kid, but I cannot stand Noto. I thought she was great as Shimako in Marimite, and that's the only place I can really tolerate her. She just sounds so insanely unrealistic. Also, the Wakamoto Baccano! character has another big scene in the OVA. A must-see.
