Pretentious Music for Pretentious Musicians
2010DigitalBoy replied to Jakehammaren's topic in Noosphere
Once again, you are getting off topic! No A7X! Hokay, I want to talk about a band familiar to pretentious music listeners - The Sound of Animals Fighting. I've been listening to the three songs on their purevolume account a lot and all are awesome. Their music is like a chewed up and regurgitated orgy... it's amazing - spastic and off-the wall mixing technicality, madness, and SPARTA!!! ...sorry (besides, the band Sparta sucks *** >_>) Evidently TSOAF has 2 albums - both of which are insane, but the first of which has some really trite screamo vocals and the second doesn't. Of the 3 songs I know, one of them has said bad vocals but... it really doesn't bother me. Their music is just too great to be bothered by the vocals. -

Jake: In the case of WoY I've only heard the 4 songs on their site, and the songs A Meeting Place and Time and Shedding the Deadwood came across as really sad to me, but when I think about it, yeah, Agalloch is much more (I've cried to A Desolation Song before) Also, I agree about Ensiferum... haven't heard much of their new album, but the guy's voice is just bad. As for Alcest guy's pretentiousness.... maybe he doesn't speak English well? Arent' they French or something? -
Saiyuki seems like Inu Yasha mixed with like...guns n stuff. So I dunno. If I check out anything it will be a volume of the manga. I ain't buying 200 or 300 dollars worth of crap that's for damn sure.
WRONG! The manga is totally different from the anime. Same stories and same action, but the manga accentuates it's excessive gore and fanservice of ugly women, while the anime has none of that

Be glad you can't commit - Saiyuki is blegh. Stick to me recs and you'll be happy >_> Also, since you don't do subs (cuz you have something wrong with you) you shouldn't buy Ichigo Mashimaro. It's not worth it to watch the dub.

Dragon Ball Z should have ended at not ****ing existing. Dragonball was enough and it was good. DBZ is pure, unadulterated ****. The fact that people enjoy it wounds my soul. On that note, almost every shonen fight series jumps the shark by the time it finishes 2 seasons.
DB, I wish I could have banned that member for posting crap in your threads. It just bugs me, and what was worse was his grammer. "What are u talking about." Oi, even when I wasn't good at posting, I didn't dare to make that mistake. Now come on, really. "What are you talking about?" would have been a little bit better. And dude, you get rewarded for your efferts. We say good job once and a while. Now it's the little thinks that matter. :P OB is actually better without a cloud of members rushing to the place every hour. It's peaceful and much more friendly with only a few members on constantly. Even though it could use a little more people.
I weeped big tears when no one commented on the last released OB Newspaper. And if that doesn't say 'inactivity', nothing does.

Bad side effects OF Fanfiction and Watching anime
2010DigitalBoy replied to sayoeimomo's topic in General Discussion
This is coming from someone who's written more than his fair share of fanfiction (Zelda, Naruto, and most of all Tales of Symphonia - I was actually famous for my legendary ToS porn) in my young life - fanfiction is bad. Don't get me wrong. People have written good fanfiction. I've heard of a novel-length fanfiction sequel to Haibane Renmei that I plan to read when I finish the show which is supposedly really great. But I tell you know - this is one drop of water in an ocean the width of the Pacific. Fanfiction is horrible. I know this for a fact, because when I log onto my computer and go into my backfiles, I can see some of my own fanfiction. And it is NOT good. Mind you, I am still the Almighty God of pornography for making the ToS characters do things you couldn't have possibly imagined (that thing had over 8000 hits, swear to god. My ****ing blog only has like a fifth of that. And, at the time of writing it, I'd never actually seen 2 people having sex! not even anime!) but still. Though I agree it Can help aspiring writers. After all, after all the praise for my porn story I started writing a lot more. Unfortuanetally I'm only good at writing porn. And since the only porn I like these days is gay porn, it's really no help. -
(WARNING: boring rant taking the thread seriously just cuz it's there) lol, I just saw this thread when was thinking about making a whiny thread about how no one is here and stuff. Seriously, though, it feels that way at times. I mean, even I haven't been here as much lately and I'm noticing this - I can not show up for a full day and nothing new has happened :animedepr and the saddest part is that it seems like no one at all is here for long periods. Like today, I came on and there's been no new threads since yesterday, only one or two new posts (at least the RPGs are running...) and then there was a post in two of my threads that I made yesterday which I got all excited about... only to find out that it was some random spammer who both times just said 'what are you talking about?' And to add insult to injury, they've been there all day and no one's come along to delete the posts or ban the member :animesigh Anyway, about all this inside joke nonesense, it can be annoying at times. I do not like to be called Rat Boy for instance, in fact I take offense to it when anyone other than indifference uses it. She gets to because she is a personal friend who even asked permission to call me that, so really it should only be an 'inside joke' between the two of us - it's not as inside as I'd like it to be right now ^^;; Anyway, I don't know why I'm complaining, I don't have the time for OB to be active these days, even if I do more than my part yo help make it that way (without reward!)

Pretentious Music for Pretentious Musicians

Ah yes, I remember you brought them up before and their stuff (listening now) is amazing. If I was still buying CDs, I'd snatch this one up immediately. That is, after finally getting the disks from Woods of Ypres, Ensiferum, and Maps and Atlases, all of which I think deserve a mention in this thread. Woods of Ypres is like Agalloch with more of the sorrow and slightly less of the atmosphere but all of the same brilliance in genre-fusion. Ensiferum, while not progressive at all, is simply amazing. It's empowering on a level above anything else and skillfully crafted. And then Maps and Atlases, whom I'm sure you have all heard of by now, has t3h mad skillz and most insane riffage ever. I'd suggest you go check them out on purevolume since they have 7 songs up there. Also, I'm not a time signature junkie, but if you are, you might want to check out blues-rok outfit Pearls and Brass for some technical and witty riffs that make every song a joyride. Question! Manga for an animation class?!
-
Oi. Ever since discovering this manga database I've been looking up all kinds of new and exciting non-liscensed manga and reading scanslations. And, naturally, that means I've been looking at a lot of porn XD. Shoujo Sect is a yuri manga series I discovered (5 chapters and a special have been scanslated so far) that may be the most well-written hentai I've ever seen. Shoujo Sect, like many yuri series, takes place at an all-girls school, though unlike most it doesn't flaunt this aspect (in fact, it's really just sort of assumed since it never outright details that.) There are basically no normal characters n this manga XD but that's because all of the characers are absolutely superb. Honestly, I think this manga has some of the most unique and simulateously realistic and completely odball girls I've read, lol. The story tends to revolve each chapter around 2 characters and some issue they have or odd scheme that leads to a sexual encounter. However, before and after te sex scene there's usually a lot of communication with characters from other capters and stuff. (bear with me here, you know I can't remember a damn name unless it's drilled into my skull) The apparent main character is a girl who seems to be all over the place (well, aside from being the most together in the head out of everyone, lol) and she has some rather complicated feelings toward one of the other characters (I haven't gotten to a point where this might be futher explored - I'm only 5 chapters in, after all) but basically always seems to play a part in the relationships that other people form. The other girl who we see a lot (and seems to be the main character's love interest) is Hunter. She seems to be having sex with... like, everyone. She is the head of the 'poetry club' which, because of it's inactivity, is basically her personal harem. She calls the club room 'her castle' and she's into some rather weird stuff. As far as the individual chapters go, they have a pretty good range of emotions put into them. Of what I've read, chapters 2 and 4 were more of the sort of silly, fun sexual encounters with some comedy thrown in. Chapters 1 and 3 were more on the ralationship aspect whereas the fifth Chapter was simply amazingly written - I thought it was excellent on a level I never would expect from hentai. Aside from being well-written right down to the sex scenes, the manga also has wonderful artwork and the perfect sort of character designs (they aren't made to look mature, nor are they made to look to cute - they're pretty believable as high-school/college girls but still cute enough that... y'know, it's hot n' stuff) Anyway, if you need links or instructions on how to dowload the scanslaions, just PM me. Continuing my Fall 07 coverage is the show that I was looking forward to most this season, Blue Drop. Most of what I read about this ep before watching it was wishy-washy opinions and the general consensus that people should 'wait till episode 2 to form their opinions.' So I went into ep 1 with these expectations. I was ready for that, becaused when I watched Simoun (which is, invariably, what this show will be compared to) I hated the first ep but fell in love by ep 2. Well, I am going to have to go ahead and disagree with the wishy washy people and say that this episode was done very, very nicely. The most notably good facet being the cinematography. There were several scenes that just made me think 'wow, that was done nicely' or, 'oooo pretty...'. Along with that, there was a grey and sort of lonesome tone over everything that made me feel pulled in. Not to mention some very nice CG shorts. I also very much enjoyed the pacing of this episode. It doesn't rush itself at all, which will be interesting if it can keep that pace for a series only 13 episodes long. The music was nice, especially the song that played when the birds were flocking around at the beginning. While this episode as a whole didn't necessarily get much accomplished, I think it did an excellent job setting up the characters, and the ain character herself is a very interesting lead without a personality you see too often. I also enjoyed the unique characer designs which were very cute in some cases. There was also an enormous girl which was kind of funny but a nice addition, IMO. I do think that the show came across as just a little pretentious, but I like that, since I am a very pretentious person.

Premonition, your presence in this thread, period, defeats the purpose of this thread. You don't listen to anything pretentious. In fact, you even neglected to listen to a band claiming it was too 'out there' or whatever. And that song you linked sucked hard ***. Face, I just listened to the first song on that site, which was pretty good. Parts of it I really liked, others were just okay but worth listening. Will get through the rest of them and form a full opinion. -
Since Geneon "died" I am trying to hurry up and pick up as many series from them as I can. I have some stuff that interests me but to be honest I don't know what to get first. So that's why I am asking you guys. What should I pick up first from Geneon? To help you guys out I generally prefer romantic comedy/drama,hardcore bloody action, and philosophical things like Kino's Journey and Haibanei Renmei. Some things I am looking at right now are. Kamichu Ergo Proxy Fate/Stay the night Strawberry Marsh mellow Are these any good/fitting to my tastes? Besides them what else do you recommend?Any help is appreciated.
Hm... Geneon, eh? Well I reccommend Straberry Marshmallow highly since it's in my top 20 anime of all time after seeing it earlier this week. I haven't seen Dokkoida?! yet, but from what I've read it's an absolute must. I've only seen 4 eps of Ergo Proxy but I hated it (I weep for my box...). Fate/Stay Night (there's no 'the') I've read a lot of mixed reviews for, so I'd say check it out yourself. Gankutsuou gets the highest reccommendation possible from me. I've downloaded Kamichu since 90 bucks is WAY too much for 16 episodes and I haven't goten to watching it yet, but from what I've read it, too, is an absolute must. Have you watched Lain yet? From the maker of Haibane and one of the most amazing shows EVER. I've also heard great things about Last Exile. Mahoromatic is another of the many I plan to watch...NieA_7 is another from the maker of Lain/Haibane but I've heard it's really slow - I plan to watch it anyway. If you didn't catch Paranoia Agent on Adult Swim, then go check that out. ROD the TV is an excellent show. Shakugan no Shana was pretty good and it's second season just started overseas. Soultaker is a Shibo show making it awesome and it's a trip and a half. Starship Operators is great but maybe not to the point of buying at full price. Texhnolyze takes time to get into but it's another from the Lain guy. A lot of people like Vandread I guess. Anything else was cut halfway.
I will watch Air before I even think of watching this. It's subbed right now anyway and I don't watch fansubs.Air has the first dvd out in the U.S. dubbed. If it's good I'll consider it.
2, actually. And the dub is excellent, so I'll let you off the hook. But you better watch ALL of it before you say anything. ell, the 'cool kids' thing was obviously a joke, though I'm not lying since everyone EXCEPT you guys is watching it >_> not like OB is the most important place for anime kiddies, lol. Anyway, I guess I can kind of see where you're coming from since I'm still waiting for a non-shity ep 10 of Hidamari Sketch which aired in the spring :animesigh The CLANNAD I watched was epically beautiful, though, so I'm not sure what difference yall ar waiting for.
Hold out with me! I'm so determined to wait for the widescreen episodes. ~Dagger~
Dagger, I'm shocked your willing to wait that long! This IS the newest Key game adaption after all. AIR is in your alltime top 6 isn't it? Come on now... how can you resist? ...All the cool kids are watching it!!! *needs someone to spiel with*
Um . . . wrong type of kanon. A cannon is what you shoot things with; a canon, or kanon as it's spelled here, is a type of musical composition. :animeknow On the subject of Clannad, though, I'm going to wait the two weeks for the 16:9 widescreen version to start airing. As much as I want it now, there's no way I'm settling for the reformatted 4:3 version.
You can watch it twice, dammit! his was one of the best 1st episodes I've ever seen by a long shot. Also, Avenged, your sources were WRONG. AIR and Kanon are masterpices uunlike anything else.

Let me ask you some inportant questions. Do you want to see what happens when the greatest forces of technical and creative brilliance collide once more to create the most perfect form of entertainment possible? Would you like to discover the full extent of what the medium of animation can deliver mentally, emotionally, and visually? How would you like to partake in an experience that may change your life with it's dazzling animation, thick, rich, unique plot, and ability to deliver the utmost in anime comedy spliced directly next to the most heart-wrenching drama you may ever experience? How would you like to experience, firsthand, the definition of moe in it's purest form? How about a show where the main character is so unequivecaly likeable that male or female, you will swoon over his every line or thought? How about a cast of memorable personalities that will evoke our purest emotions? How about a beautiful silver haired martial-arts master who can show you first hand that WU-TANG CLANNAD AIN'T NOTHIN TA **** WIT?! If you answered no to any of those questions, you do not deserve to exist, and if you answered yes like a good little anime fan, then you NEED to go watch CLANNAD. Based on a visual novel by Key and animated by Kyoto Animation - the team that had you dazzled by the brisk breeze of the AIR through whom rain fell like so many tears - the same team who shot you with an emotional KANON that hit you right where it hurt yet brought such a smile to your face that could elate the darkes of hours. Thanks to some excellent work by Eclipse subs, even those who know not the native language of moe can experience the wonder that is CLANNAD. People, I cannot stress this enough. The first episode of CLANNAD is out and subbed. WATCH IT NOW!

Continuing the Fall 07' series releases is Dragonaut -The Resonance- being subbed by Infinite-Zero. Basically, all you need to know is 'bewbage'. ZOMG bewbage. So... from episode one, the story did not grab me at all. In fact, nothing grabbed me. Probably because we learned almost nothing. That's okay, though, because like every GONZO show the first episode is like a universe itself apart from the rest of the show. For those who aren't aware, Dragonaut, upon announcement, has been the sort of laughing stock of anime for American audiences because prior to airing, GONZO released no information on the plot - only the character designs and siyuu list. Hilariously enough, most of the cast of Haruhi has been cast in Dragonaut, gaining it the nickname 'the Haruhi reunion.' So anyway, my impressions of the first episode are prety much the same as most of what I've read. There's an emo main character, some other cast who are all shrowded in mystery, and more ENORMOUS BREASTS than you can even wrap your mind around. Seriously, I watched this ep with my brother and friend and we pretty much spent the entire time joking about the inanely huge boobs. It's... positively unreal. Anyway, I was rather annoyed by the show's inability to just pick a half-*** genre and stick with it, rather than try and combine several half-*** genres into something that is pretty much just... ***. We've got some weak sci-fi elements, some weak fantasy elements, and one of those battles you usually see in an urban supernatural story all going on at once. If it stays this messy, I doubt it'll be much fun. In fact, I get the feeling that all the people crying 'trainwreck!' aren't going to be far off. My friend and broter both liked it, though, lol.
-
Wow this anime sound like a nice series, do you know when it comes out on DVD?
Considering that THE FIRST EPISODE AIRED 2 DAYS AGO I highly doubt it will be released on DVD in Japan in the near future, norr EVER see American release.

Oi. Another Fall 07' anime, this time it's Myself; Yourself. Based off a visual novel that wasn't made by Key. Currently the first ep has already been subbed by m.3.3.w. This show starts off like many before it - there's a going away party for Sana, the male lead, wherein his 4 best friends all give him parting gifts before he has to move away. Shoot to five years later when Sana's come back home to find that his town hasn't changed yet, and neither have most of his friends (except that now they've got boobs!) though one of them seems none-to-happy about his return. Anywho, I thought the animation looked a little nice at times (i guess it would have to to even think of airing at the same time as the infinitely-more-popular CLANNAD) and so far none of the characters are annoying. Well, Aoi had a rather annoying seiyuu (real squeally) but seems like a cute character (for once the book-obsessed glasses-girl isn't the shy one, lol). So far, the story looks like it'll be full of that visual-novel-based drama that visual-novel-based-anime-fans have come to know and love. It promises love triangles (or other polygons) and pletny of slaps and potential crying leadin to touching moments.

Welcome to what's sure to be the first of a good deal of threads on new series for the Fall 07 season - one that is sure to be full of awesome. For right now, it's Night Wizard, which will be subbed by ainex sometim soon (hopefully) Having watched the raw, I didn't get everything, but I got the basic jist of it (girl lives alone since her family died, wears a bracelet given by her... I think it was unkle). Anyway, story's not important since the first ep is not unlike your average shounen-fight-show first ep (with an added dose of WTF). The highlights are definitely the atmosphere and, more importantly, the badass weaponry. I'll wait for subs before making too many sweeping statements about it, but it's definitely 'on my radar'
I've seen through ep14 now because I have too much time on my hands. Shana's back story looks like it could be interesting. Yuuji never seemed that interesting to me to begin with. I think part of it is because one moment he was freaking out about being cut and then the next he barely reacted to learning he's actually dead already. The following day he just went with it like he barely even cared. Overall, his character doesn't seem very convincing. And his cheesy narration also annoys me. I think my favorite part so far has been watching Shana get riled up over Kazumi going after Yuuji. As well as that smartass book Marco.
Yes, Marcocias is indeed the king of the cosmos, lol. Anyway, if you like the Shana/Kazumi feud then your in luck, cuz that's what everything past Shana's backstro is about, lol. I dunno, I dun like competition as much, cuz Yuuji and Shana were moving so fast before she had to come out of the sidelines >_> I like Yuuji - I thought of him as a thinker which is a bit rare for this type... plus he's a music person... but as the show progresses he definitely becomes less smart XD Either way, Season 2 starts today! (or rather, started!)
