Ah-Ha Take on Me
You are aware that you're supposed to talk about the songs, right? No one gives a damn what your listening to. Tell us how it makes you feel. Through the Night makes me feel nostalgic as it is one of the earliest anisons I was obsessed with. It's the opening to legendary anime Outlaw Star and is full of burning passion and manly spirit!

Hito Toshito Jiku ga Bureteiru is an awesome punk song about mental instability. Anthemic through and through and really cool when the piano cuts in at parts. Not maddening like Odoru Akechan Ningen, but still rather offbeat.
I might've mentioned this elsewhere on the board but, whenever there's a scene where two characters are saying goodbye and one walks away across a street. . . . I can't help but imagine that a big semi truck comes barreling down the road from the side, horn blaring, and mows down the character without even braking. It doesn't matter how sad or dramatic the scene is, that always comes to mind and I usually start cracking up. I think this odd habit has its roots in seeing Palmer get hit by that truck in Rocket Town, in Final Fantasy VII, after you beat him down while stealing the Tiny Bronco. I always loved that scene but I have no idea how it got twisted in my mind to what it is now.
When you said that, I imagined the Bahoime episode of PPD. I wonder if it strengthened your way of thinking? Either way, that scene was priceless. Also, don't let my weird habits keep you from watching great shows (aaryana) I will cry.

What does it mean to be an Otaku?
2010DigitalBoy replied to OtakuSeeker's topic in General Discussion
Goths enjoy being hated. They basically design themselves to be offensive to others, because they love the attention.
Um, have you ever even met a goth kid? Your description is powerfully off. Also, Lunox, my school doesn't have an anime club so I guess I wouldn't know, though most of the nerds I've met are really uptight offline and then let loose online, lol. Though I guess I myself am the opposite, but then again other nerds/otaku think I'm weird lol. -

My best friend made fun of me cuz I didn't know and ended up wearing white (I almost ALWAYS wear black) on the one day I shouldn't have, lol. Anyway, he took it very seriously and here in VA Beach there was a 1000-or-so-man march with signs and stuff o'er at our Mt. Trashmore. My best friend was one of the first to arrive and got interviewed on the news - I didn't see him (I don't watch the news >_>) but he got interviewed and stuff which is cool. He said he was doing it for his little sister - is stepdad and 2-year-old sister are black and he told them how he didn't want his little sister to have to grow up into a country that harbors racism and such. I wish I'd seen it, since it sounds quite stirring.

What does it mean to be an Otaku?
2010DigitalBoy replied to OtakuSeeker's topic in General Discussion
Because being associated with liking anime is not incredibly good to most high schoolers, and girls are more aware of their social standing (especially in school). Even if I were an 'otaku', I sure as hell wouldn't announce it to my entire class. There are plenty of people in the anime fandom that embarrass 'closet' fans or whatever you want to call them.
Ya'll go to some weird schools. Every damn goth kid at my school wears anime shirys and stuff. And we make up a good 7-8th of the school population. The girls are far more flambouyant about it than the guys. -
When I watched Eflen Lied I couldn't stop turning it off mid episode and saying "who thinks of this garbage?!" Then of course I turn it back on 1 episode later the same thing happens. That's what happens when I watch bad anime.
I still can't decide which is more cliche, loving Elfen Lied like it's the greatest show ever or hating it like it's the worst tripe on earth. It was okay. No need to be extreme. Anywho, I find I have a new habit developed while watching Strawberry Panic! which is to take breaks between episodes so as not to exceed the maximum time one should go wth an erection.

Since you're obviously a little slow, I'll help you out on this one. motivation Willingness of action esp. in behavior The action of motivating. Something which motivates. A reason for doing something. Also, listening to Sketch Switch - it's a cute anison that will be stuck in your head eternally if you listen >_> Now GO WATCH HIDAMARI SKETCH.

Empty Walls by Serj Tankian. Awesome vid, addicting song. Was stuck in my head all day. Very... 'unique' vocals XD. As always, the lyrics are deep and great. Sound is not dissimilar to SOAD. Also, look up the Serj Tankian Ultimate Interview. It's ****ing hilarious.

lol, my mom's in her early 40s and people sometimes think she's my sister, so it's not surprising to find others who look young. -
I would suggest looking up sales figures. I know that Wikipedia used to have something stating that one of the One Piece tankobons was Japan's #1 bestseller prior to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (If this girl thinks Harry Potter isn't popular, she needs to burn her dictionary.)
If she's using a dictionary to determine wether manga is popular or not, she need not be trusted O_o

What does it mean to be an Otaku?
2010DigitalBoy replied to OtakuSeeker's topic in General Discussion
What do you mean by this ='( My community has very few otaku. And when I do meet one, it's very awkward, as if I don't fit in. We'll get along but it's just so uncomfortable. Like sitting at Borders reading a manga or illustration book next to others (When I tried that, I felt so embarassed for some reason, hence why I don't sit on the floor to read these things anymore), meeting or talking to people at anime conventions (Last time I did that, the man who had spoken with me followed me throughout the whole entire anime convention (exception for one day because I was running about for one hour buying all of the merchandise I had planned to get) and still IMs me (He's a nice man but... he sorta creeped me out >_>)), or even talking to fans in my city. Maybe I'm just a different otaku? Or maybe I haven't been exposed to any true otaku? Like, I sorta wish I was in an anime club like Genshiken, lol. But then I dunno either. I think it might be a bit creepy. Besides, clubs like anime/manga/game clubs aren't allowed at my school anyway, ha-ha... I personally think that someone could quit being an otaku if they wanted to. Because sometimes being an otaku might interfere with things like education, jobs, etc. That is, if you refer to my definition of the term. And maybe that person realizes that obsessing over anime and manga won't accomplish much in his/her life, so he/she decides to quit his/her addiction.
Ah. i see. So you're Kanji from Genshiken. you simply haven't found your way yet. Anyway, if someone has the mindset that they can quit being an otaku, or that being an otaku is a hindrance then they aren't an otaku. The whole point is that you enjoy anime - if it is destructive to you then you aren't an otaku. Just a guy who likes anime. I am a considerably strange person even among otaku - I have developed a very outgoing personality and a LOT of peole know me at school and the people I hang out with are not otaku (or they might aspire to be but are still in the Naruto stage) but last year i met an actual otaku (and back then, I hadn't really become one yet. I was into music) I only saw him 4 days last year cuz of his problem with cluster headaches but this year now that I'm on his level, we happen to have lunch together every day (that he comes in) and we immediately became friends (whom no one else could follow the conversations of lol) and now we talk on YIM and he's helped me a LOT with my computer and stuff. If there's w=one thing I've always found to be true about otaku it's that they are the nicest people in the world. -
