Title: Starship Operators Genre: Military Action, Space Drama For Fans of: Macross Length: 13 episodes Availability: 3 DVDs released by Geneon So, another series finished in a short period of time - Starship Operators. Aside from having one of the coolest first episodes I've ever seen in an anime and some of the greatest battle scenes, this show earns the spot as my favorit space/military show since Robotech. Episode 2 Oi. 2 episodes into Starship Operators - this show is insane and I love it. The first episode easily ranks in my top 5 favorite first episodes of an anime - it doesn't **** around at all. Brass-tax, non-stop tension, and if you don't pay close attention to what's going on, you'll surely get lost. The concept is original and presented beautifully. But best of all comes down to the battles. Not much in the way of visual fights, but my god the tension is heavier than any swordfight I've ever seen and pulls off some of the coolest space stuff I've ever seen (I'm usually not a big fan of space anime, but this one turns that all around) plus as a huge tactics nerd, I find the intelligent battles to be totally fun and cool. Episode 3 No battle, but the same no-nonsense attitude that keeps me on the edge of my seat throughout. Gotta say, the producer guy is probably my favorite character so far - he's practically evil, lol. I also find it interesting how many secrets seem to be touched opun in each episode. I get the feeling we're looking at massive plot twists to come. Episode 6 Episodes 5-6 of Starship Operators were absolutely brilliant, also, unexpected boob shot!!!
Though it sucks that it had to be as Rena was dying, since she was probably my favorite of the girls, but still, bewb shot >_>;
I gotta say I'm imperessed, this is pretty much the second military show I've ever liked (the other being Macross) (I watched the rest all at once so I didn't have time for individual reviews) Anywho, the most important thing about this show from beginning to end was that it was fast-paced and exciting every minute and moved so quickly that each episode felt half it's length. Episode 8 and I believe it was either 10 or 11 (the one where they fight 5 ships at once) were not only the wo coolest space battles of all time, but simply two of the greatest battles ever. The series wasn't completely without flaws, mind you. The biggest one I saw was that in the last 4-5 episodes it seems like they gave up on character development. Throughout the early episodes there was always romantic stuff on the side and little excerpts of the characters lives, but after
Shinon's boyfriend died (relatively quickly, I might add)
the characters seemed to fall back and the est of the story concentrated on the plot strictly. My best guess is that this was because of only having 13 episodes to work with. Not that the series should have necessarily been longer - I think if they had spanned it out more it mght have lost that constant tension and energy that was almost ever-present throughout. Still, I definitely would have liked to look more into some of the more interesting characters' lives. Looking at the series in review, I think the highlights would have been the 6th and 8th episodes. The episode with the 5-on-one fight may have been the coolest battle in the series, but it was at the point when the story had become a little too political for me - not that I didn't still enjoy it. The ending was effected by this as well. I think that the series ended the way it should have, but it ended too soon. If I had been more intimate with the characters sooner to the end, it would have been more impactful, and utterly perfect. Still, despite these flaws, it was an excellent series that I might like to see redone with a higher budget and maybe more episodes, if it could be done right. After all, I think the flaws were completely with circumstance rather than writing issues. On that note, I notice that it is in fact based on an ongoing series of novels which I'd love the chance to read, though I will likely never get it, lol. Anywho, my favorite characters from this show were Shinon, Rena (boob shot!), and the ever-awesome Peter. If he wasn't enough of a badass already, his part at the end of the series makes him the true best dude evar.

Ah, Rach. Begging for candy isn't helping you look any older :p I love Reese's in most of it's forms. The classic cups, or even those mini cups are awesome. Reese's Pieces are the best. You can have as much or little in your mouth as you please - a liberty I flex in every way possible. I hate white chocolate Reese's and the nside out ones. Just not cool. Crunch is cool too. You gotta take long breaks from it, though, cuz it gets old quick if you keep buying it close together. I've been a Starburst fan since I was little. Unfortuanetaly, I hate the pinks and am indifferent toward the reds. And anything other than the original flavors are t3h suckz0rs.
Also, yeah, some of us don't want to remember things like this, but the old 'walking in on your parents' stories could work. Ooh now I have to go bleach my eyeballs!
It's made a thousand times worse when your parents talk about sex or make crude jokes all the time, right in front of you!!! AND YOUR LITTLE BROTHERS!!! Swear to god, they have no consideration. Oh sure, they always realise it afterwards, but then the scars have already been dug! The worst one was when we were picking out the new house we were going to move into [just to clarify, this was in Feb-Mar 07, since I've lived in like 17 houses] and one of them had this really weird design where there was a massive living room/den thing that had this super-high ceiling. Well, the 2nd floor wall cuts into the ceiling, so its like you can see the outline of the above room. For some weird reason, the house designers decided to just cut a big *** window-like hole in this wall. Just a bigass hole from the master bedroom to the den. Well, this comes up in discussion. Me: Well, the hole's gunna be a problem for, like, if we're, like, up late and stuff and you guys are, like, trying to sleep. My mom (toward my dad): Yeah, and it's gunna suck when me and you aer trying to 'Ah! Ah! Ah!' up there. Freeze frame. Now, I don't know what my mom said next. It took a moment to sink in. (did she think she was covering it up like that? Why would she do that?) before I knew it, my face was contorting into a horrified expression that must surely have spoken my disdain. My dad: Uh... I think you killed Conrad... M mom: lol oops. Then the shock set it. Me: GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *runs to room to sob* and ALL THEY COULD DO WAAS LAUGH MANIACALLY!!!!
Hmm, other emberassing stories? A girl I know had a bad case of lock jaw at a very bad moment. Her (now ex) boyfriend was less than pleased, but it sure gave everyone else a good laugh. One of those 'Please God don't ever let it happen to me' things. My boyfriend still reminds her about it too. I've had a few times where my mom called on the phone- it wasn't bad when it went into regular voice mail, but before I signed up for voice mail I had an answering machine and hearing her voice in the middle of that just killed the mood. :animeswea
Much better. Like Aaryana, I am young (16) though most of my friends lost their virginity at 12-14. I'm just 'that guy'. Never had a girlfriend, nor a chance with a woman, lol. this is more than likely because women find me repulsive. I know this is true, because my female friends take care to remind me so, lol. Not that it matters - I don't really try in any way to aquire a relationship. Where the hell would I find time for it around all of my anime watching anyway? lol. As for sexual stories - this only applies to me if we're talking about one-man escapades. This would actually be quite hilarious, but I'm not going to talk about it on (G)takuboards. Come back to me in 10 years when I've snapped and trapped a bunch of women in my basement >_> [Wow, this post sounds really deprived. "I see..." Joe trailed off after Aeru finished her story. He and Neviril stood with their heads turned down while Aeru was leaning against the dresser with the mirror on top. Neviril started, "B...but..." "Don't worry about it," Aeru interrupted, her voice now calm, and a light smile returning to her face. "I can still smile, see? So it's not that bad. When I saw his face, I just..." Suddenly a voice cut the air from behind her. "It's Aeru! She's alright! But why is she in the mirror?" As if she could hear Astera, Aeru turned from her position inside the mirror and faced the two of them, her eyes widening in surprise as she looked at the two of them. "Adrian? Astera? Is that really you?" Astera flew through the mirror-window and floated in front of Aeru's face. "I'm so glad you're okay!" She chimed. "I'm glad to see you, too!" Aeru laughed, but stopped a second later, seeing Adrian on the other side of the mirror-window. As always, he wore a serious expression and seemed more than a little annoyed. That isn't hat Aeru was seeing, though, as her cheeks turned bright pink and her face brightened up. "Adrian, you came to save me!" She cooed. Adrian flinched. "Eh?!" Before he could retort, the young shinigami leapt up onto the dresser and bounced clear through Astera and the mirror-window into Adrian's chest. "I'm so happy!" She sang as she rubbed her face into his chest. For a brief moment, Adrian was dumbfounded with rage, then with an explosion of anger screamed, "GET THE HELL OFF OF ME!" To which Aeru recoiled with teary eyes. "Adrian!" Astera called as she came to his side, "Don't be so mean, she's been through a lot!" Joe and Neviril climbed through the mirror as well. "Like I haven't?! This is no time to be acting like children, we need to find a way out of here so I can tear the Count in half!" Neviril gasped at this violent remark, bringing Adrian's attention to her. "Another damn vampire? Good. I've been looking forward to getting to kill one of you!" Adrian materialized one of his scythes and pointed it at Neviril, who only cringed in fear. "Don't!" Aeru cried, jumping out in front of the vampire girl, scythe ready. Astera yelled, "STOP IT! We're never going to get anywhere fighting amongst ourselves!" "She's not one of us, she's a damn vampire!" "You don't have to kill her, the exit's right there, Adrian! Come on! Leave them alone!" "...actually..." This time it was Joe who spoke up. Attention on all sides was turned to where there was once a hole in the wall. Rather than a mirror-window, there was merely a window on the wall. Joe pawed at it to make sure; it was solid. Adrian retracted his scythe. "Feh. Figures..." He turned on his way out of the room. "Adrian..." Astera followed worriedly behind him. When he reached the door, his fist cracked against it with booming force, shattering the door into tiny fragments that few out into the hall. He took a step through the door before Aeru's voice cut in. "Adrian!" It was worried, yet fierce. Adrian stopped for a moment and turned his head. "If you follow me, you'd better stay a damn good distance back."

It's really, really laid back - the most relaxing metal album ever recorded, methinks - and great to just drift off to. Plus, it reminds me of my lady, so that's a plus as well.
That Kicks monster ***, dude. Once again, you have introduced me to a kickass band. Was listening to 198D and now One Armed Scissor by At the Drive-In. The only album I own of theirs is the compilatio album (go figure) which I only bought cuz it's ZOMG old Mars Volta. Mind you, the style is nothing alike, but it's still a great album. Closest I've ever come to liking emo (post-hardcore WTF ever), lol. Oddly enough, I'm not much a fan of their more experimental songs in favor of their more upbeat and punk style songs (of course, anything they do is still pretty expermental). OAS is a song I've actually liked since I was a little kid hearing it on the radio, and it was a total trip to find out it was ZOMG Cedric singing it, lol.

Discuss Shinigami Dance: Playground of Deities
It's okay: your undead pedophile doesn't factor into the current scenario, aside from the fact that he is the captor of the shinigami. I will say, though, that if he survives Part One then I will be quite displeased. I've been getting the impression that he's basically a beginner-stage opponent; the Seras Valkyrie has a more troublesome potential, I feel, than does Monsieur le Comnt. Additionally, the fact that he has the most followers, numbering around forty, seems a bit off to me. If forty is all we have to worry about, then we might get the only decent action in the whole RP sometime in the next two weeks...and considering what indifference has tipped about Adrian, along with what's been emerging (for me) about Nathan's background, and counting the two dragons, that's not going to last very long. Maybe three posts, taking perspectives into account. But that's just me. That'll be adequately taken care of. :smirk:
does 'your post had me laughing my ass off' answer some of your questions? Honestly, could you possibly have not trusted ME to throw in an extreme plot twist of epic proportions that spins your head in circles within the first 4 chapters? Honestly, you didn't think too hard just now, lol. Also, I have no idea what 'that'll be adequately taken care of' means, but I mean to say that you may seriously regret killing more than a couple little vampires. As for when the Count goes down - you'll just have to savor the moment when it comes :p -

SunfallE: Even though Depeche Mode is one of about 5 80s bands I actually like any particular song by, I couldn't tell you a single song name besides 'Personal Jesus'. I had no idea whatsoever that it was a song title, not to mention didn't even talk to indifference ^^;; I was kind f wondering what she meant telling me to enjoy the title... Allamorph: As long as your plan DOES NOT involve killing the Count, I'm interested in what will happen. In any event, the big man cannot die yet. On that note, I'd like to stress that the less of the Count's minions ya'll kill this chapter, the more fun the next one's gunna be ^_~ So, today, I plotted out the direction of the rp all the way to the end ^_^ It's all planned for once! Anywho, a few hints that may be important - the first (and shortest) 'Part' will consist of 4 'chapters' (you're on the third) and there are 3 total parts. -
>_< Talk about being startled. Hehe. For a moment I was thinking Alex was about to get clobbered. XP Well Beth was right, you were up to something! Now I'm going to have to think on how to respond to that plot twist. :catgirl:
Don't forget, while you do, that you can put any spin on this you want. Imagine you're watching Scooby Doo and everything's a mystery, lol. Also, no one be scared to have your characters meet in some strange way. -
The Shinigami all looked straight ahead at the count through the blinding darkness of the massive room. His smile made no attempt to hide his ecstatic cunning. The tall, handsome man rose to his feet slowly. At his sides, his elbows were bent in a gesture as if he were welcoming his guests. With a deep, cold, and dignified voice he called out. "Shinigami! Welcome to Purgatory!" The moment the words had left his lips, all of the shinigami except for Alex suddenly disappeared. "W-what the hell?!" Alex jumped. The had vanished just like that! What was going on?! "Allow me to explain." The Count began. He still spoke as if talking to a group of people. Maybe the others can hear him as well? "The moment you stepped through the front door of my mansion, you were each tied to a different parallel universe. All of you are in the same place you were before, but each alone in his or her own universe. Said universe is no bigger than my mansion itself - there is no way to escape. I have literally trapped each of you in an eternal grave. However, I'm in favor of being fair. Therefor, somewhere in this mansion there is a tool to free you from this prison. On the flip side, the mansion is full of deadly traps and is far larger than outside appearances lead you to believe. I'm terribly sorry that this is not what you came to my mansion intending to do, but I planned all of this from the start. Have a nice hunt. Just try not to spend an eternity in your search! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" And with that, the Count and his laughter faded off.

7,925. Sterling Clear Vacant Ice Dark room. Single large bed. Dresser adorned by giant mirror. Angry girl in all black, wiping tears from her eyes. Another girl in all black worried with her hand on the first girl's shoulder. A flying cat too scared to pry. A closed door. An echo. Wipe, wipe *silence* <"Doumo arigatou gozaimasu..."> she mutters as she calms down. *silence* "Tell me..." her tears are dry, and so she asks the worried girl, "How much do you know about the Count?" Though she does worry, the girl smiles when she thinks of her master. It is a smile that one could only wear for thoughts of pure bliss. "About ten years ago... is when I first met the Count," she began. "The sky was still red with the embers of my own home which burned to the ground. There was no way I should have been able to live after my parents and home were all gone. Especially having seen my mother's death with my own eyes when she was crushed under a fallen piece of the ceiling." Even as she calmly detailed such a horrifying incident, Neviril didn't loose her smile. "I don't remember anything that happened between running through the flames and the Count's face. I think that I must have lost my mind immediately or maybe just broken down and hadn't stopped running. I only remember that I was curled up in an alley that was dark except for the light of the flaming sky. I remember the Count's kind face and war embrace. In his big arms he lifted me like he was cradling a baby. I remember his gentle lips... as he kissed my neck...." "I see..." Aeru knew she wasn't likely to get any useful information from this girl who knew the Count only as a savior. Once more there was a brief silence before Neviril's head poked up next to Aeru. "Aeru... do you hate the Count?" Instantly Aeru's face turned sour as she took a moment to formulate her answer. "It isn't merely that I hate him. As a shinigami, it is part of my job to look at vampires as a threat. Most of my coworkers would attack a vampire on sight. Some would even hunt for them. But that is not my way of thinking. I have turned a blind eye to the vampire race for over 200 years. The reason I am against the Count is a reason all my own..." Neviril turned her eyes down. It was apparent that Aeru had no intent of speaking of it anymore. Whatever her grudge, it was something that she harbored on her own and wouldn't impose on anyone else. Still, could Neviril be friends with someone who opposed her own master? "Aeru." It was Joe. Neviril had forgotten that Aeru's most trusted companion was on the same path of discovery as herself. "I think it's time you told me what's going on." The cat was dead serious. The young shinigami only turned her head away with tears in her eyes. "Aeru! I've been with you for over 50 years now. You have always been childish to the point of irritation. You dance around everywhere you go, play with children, and laugh like a little girl. You're a crybaby, though with a strong heart that never forgets her duty or gives up. I have come to love you for all of those things, and I never want or expect you to change. Right now, you are not the Aeru I know. She wouldn't keep secrets from her friends, and she wouldn't run away from her problems. now, I think it's time you explained to us exactly what's happening." This time, the silence was the longest it had been yet. Both Joe and Neviril felt ready to explode with the tension. "Alright... ...I'll tell you everything..."

Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
2010DigitalBoy replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
Since the thread didn't heal~~ Oi. Now with 2 seasons under my belt, Maria-sama ga Miteru has warmed up to me enough that I like it a lot - not a favorite or anything, but definitely an excellent show that I look forward to continue watching (which is convenient cuz the series just keeps going and going?). Season 2 was a lot more fun than season 1 on basically every level for every reason there is. As I said before, it took me over half of the first season to really start enjoying it, and it wasn?t until the last few episodes that I recognized it as something I enjoyed. Starting off season 2 with a few funny episodes and the fact that I knew all of the characters? names and their basic personalities really helped (probably because it?s the exact opposite of season 1?s start.) Now, like everything I watch, the characters are really what make Marimite for me - which is all it could be anyway - the show is just characters and nothing else. And boy, are they very complicated people, heh. Seriously, I wish I had friends who were as three-simensional as these girls (though really, if the show is any indication, it would only make my life harder ^^;;). Character interaction is the foundation of Marimite in that every little thing that goes on when the characters talk is taken into account. A distracted glance; a fluttering tone; or simply the way someone is walking all effect the perception of the characters not only by the viewer, but by the other characters. In some ways, it makes me wonder if the characters are all robots, but then I remember that this is anime, and characters are allowed to have super-awesome communication skills. Besides, robots could never have the pure emotion that is shown in every second of Marimite. Nothing is ever wasted in this show. Well, that wasn?t true as much in the first season, but this time around I think that there were almost zero wasted words ever. No meaningless conversation, throwaway jokes, or pointless remarks that are ever-present in your average anime. EVERYTHING has meaning in this show, and in that respect, I?d say it has some of the best writing I?ve ever seen. On that same coin, though, there were a couple things that did bother me about ths season. The first being that it has started to repeat itself a little. Now, mind you, the style of showing only one character?s perception and then pulling a twist on you when you hear the others? side of the story is a great tactic in my opinion, because it feels like you are right there with the character, feeling what she feels. When Yumi is wondering why Sachiko seems to have abandoned her, you wonder why yourself and feel as heartbroken and flustered as Yumi does. While I do enjoy that tactic, though, I think it might be overused a little, especially in the case of Yumi and Sachiko?s relationship. It?s not an overly large complaint, but it?s one that could become redundant if it keeps happening in future seasons. Anyway, season two was far more impressive than the first one, and left a far larger impact (rather than ending it saying ?oh, the last few epsiodes were nice? I?m thinking ?wow, those were a great 13 episodes?). I can?t wait to keep going. -
Has Darren even been on since the creation of this thread? I figured he was dead, lol. Anyway, I thik this is a dangerous time for any RP with so many huge rps going on right now.
