Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
2010DigitalBoy replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
I stand by my opinion that Strawberry Marshmallow would be completely worthless if not for Miu. At the same time, having Miu in all her glory makes it one of the best shows of its type. ~Dagger~
Well, yeah. However, Miu's tendency to get to the point of OMG ****ing shut the hell up you annoying brat also drags the show down at times. they didn't balance her carefully enough in my opinion. There's a bit of a line between crazy but funny, like say Haruhi or Matsuri (from Kamichu) and crazy to the point that you actually want to step in and slap the little jackass like Miu. I'm glad that the middle sister in Minami-ke fixed this, because in the first ep I was like "oh god, it's Miu all over again" but she quickly showed a multi-faceted personality which made her a far better character. Minami-ke is sort of like the perfected Ichigo Mashimaro, only without the character who made Ichigo Mashimaro for me, the big sis. Because she was pretty much everything I look for in a woman, and pretty much how I see myself in 3 years. I swear to god, if there is a real woman who is like her, I can live and die happy =_= Minami-ke does have Chiaki, though, and she is pretty much hailed as a god, especially on /a/. -
It's from Geneon. If no one picks it up for a while the dvd prices might shoot up even more and I might make a profit off of the dvds. Anyway I doubt this show will be better than Kamichu. It might be funnier when all is said and done but I am pretty sure Kamichu will be better overall. That show was just too damn good. Still though Strawberry Marshmellow so far is a really upbeat happy fun show. I have high hopes for the rest. If anythign it will defintiely be easier to watch than Rahxephon.
NOO it's not as good as Kamichu! but then Kamichu! is in my top 10 alltime favorite anime, however ichigo Mashimaro is a very different experience from that altogether. If you like it, be sure to check out Minami-ke which is by the same people. -
Interesting Mythology, Folklore, and Urban Legends

I faking love norse mythology, having first gotten interested from readingg Ragnarok and since not really doing much research, however listening to metal/playing video games/watching anime pretty much clues you in on a lot, and I did read what little wiki had, though I'm not nearly about to go googling around for it. Not much for Greek mythos. The names are just annoying and stupid. -
Listening to High as **** which is a funny-*** youtube song. My favorite part is where he says 'You find yourself on a chicken farm, only the chickens have human arms, and you say 'that's fuced up why do the chickens have human arms'".

James. Writing his death shouldn't be hard, as I'm sure you've known him long enough to give it the right stylistic approach. I want to see the beautiful colors of his blood as only you could detail them.
Song#5: F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. Artist: The Fall Of Troy This song just makes me want to dance like an idiot, then mosh, then dance like an idiot again, but when the mosh part starts: I WANT TO BREAK SOMETHING AND MOSH [yes it's that good] and during the final part, continue to dance like an idiot. The song also makes me feel like I'm lost, trying to find something.
I know exactly what you mean! This song is a dancing opus, lol. I just bought Doppleganger last night, and I've noticed how the first half of the album is all fun badassery and the second half is all visceral badassery, lol. The whole album is great for just screaming your heart out. I think the strongest emotional one is probably Laces Out, Dan! which just makes you feel utterly demented, especially when he screams in that utterly freaky voice, "DID YOU THINK THAT I WAS JOKING?!" pretty crazy. Similar feeling to one of my alltime favorite songs, Godfather's Lollipop by Shabutie. Actually most of the songs on Shabutie's Penelope EP feel like that.
Strawberry Marshmellow ep 1-2 Man this show is ****ing great. It's really refreshing after watching Rahxephon. It's simple and fun.
yes. I just got done rewatching Kamichu! which was even better the second time around, probably because it's not easy to block watch and I had a better idea of what to expect, yaknow. But watching it made me think I should go and buy the Ichigo Mashimaro box-set. However it's a little expensive for something I've already seen >_ -
Writing The Otakuboards Celebration: Part 1

Randomely entered thread and saw the part Revelation quoted. Haha! Good stuff. I wonder how long you and I will go on quoting him before someone asks where we get all our great lines from XD -
New Members: Introduce Yourselves Here
2010DigitalBoy replied to Charles's topic in General Discussion
femme, I'm officially considering you my spotlight new member for the time being. Your introduction is interesting, plus you have an Air banner, and that's always a good thing. And you like bobobo : D *thumbs up* -
"Ilyena" by The Mars Volta. So catchy, so amazing. The new drummer, Thomas Pridgen, makes this song. Their new album, The Bedlam in Goliath leaked last week, and it is everything I wanted it to be. Incredibly epic, challenging, relentless, and a sound reminiscent of all 3 previous albums rolled together. 2008DB, get on that **** now!
There's no ****ing way I'm DLing it. As a purist TMV fan, I feel like it's dishonorable to not eait for the album release. I want the glory of listening to it the day it omes out and ejaculating all over everything in the world.

Holy ****, Rach can not only play guitar, but play it well, and play Kansas?! *official Rach fanboy*

Oddly enough, I actually discovered a band from the little 'noteworthy bands' column in Revolver - a doom-metal outfit called Orthodox who are pretty cool. The way their music and vocals mix is very cool and they manage to be dark and doom without being too dark as is the case I find with a lot of doom-metal bands (I mean, that's the genre after all.) Pretty kickass. And yes, they were actually in the metal archives XD
Right now I'm listening to Gypsy Tango by Gary A. Edwards. I didn't see a clip over at youtube that I liked so I uploaded one to my Vox account. Anyway, I've played the cello part for this but the music I've linked to is actually a version of the Gypsy Tango arranged by accomplished touring pianist Scott Mayfield. It's a fun lively piece to play and to listen to.
That song is pretty and reminds me of something that would have been the BGM on a Pico game, yes I had Pico when I was a kid. That's not what's important right now, though, ihad no idea you had a blog!!!

Anime Spice and Wolf / Ookami to Koushinryou
2010DigitalBoy replied to JazzLady22's topic in Otaku Central
oioi, we talked about it a little in the Watching/reading thread, but I'm glad to see somone was interested enough to make a thread! I only watched the first ep of this, and I will note that it was my most highly anticipated release this season. Here's the post I did in the other thread, which was copied out of a thread elsewhere XD ~~~~~~~ Since you both like it, I feel the need to unleash this bit of copypasta ~ ugh.... well, they did some things right but... the changes from the manga are all negative. They didn't express horo's emotions nearly as well, and Lawrence is WAY weaker of a character. They got the character designs alright, but the art is simply not as good (not that that's a surprise since the manga art is in-****ing-credible). It wasn't all failure, but I definitely think it will be one where reading the manga is a more worthwhile experience, especially since the animation is pretty static. I absolutely dislike Lawrence's voice actor (he should have had a Ginko style voice...) however, I will say that this show's soundtrack has already proven to be out of this world. I will definietly get the soundtrack, hell I might even import the damn thing - the opening theme is beautiful and all the insert songs and the ending all had a beautiful and very tonally fitting sound. I wouldn't mind putting this on while I read the manga, heh. -
The month or so that I had a myspace, my song was Devil in Jersey City by Coheed and Cambria. It's not one of my favorite songs by them, but it was on their page. That's all.

You probably had a good readson for not watching Mononoke, which some consider a revolution in the anime medium (*coughDaggercough*). My excuse was that the character designs looked like they'd slid out of an anus, and I couldn't handle that. Well, you can redeem yourself by watching Hakabe Kitarou, which is being directed by the same guy. The first ep has miraculously been subbed. The show is creepy, cool, and the first episode was a blast. teh animation style is neato and attention-grabbing. It's got a very haunting, Tim Burton sort of feel to it, where you are watching something quite disturbing and a bt horrifying, but it still feels lighthearted. Definitely a unique show, and my personal first real excursion into a japanese horror story. (waits for Dagger's analysis of episodes I do net yet have the ability to watch >_>)

Well, I've never had a girlfriend, but I had a boyfriend who I broke up with over phone issues, too. Namely the fat that he was calling me when I dislike talking on the phone. I obviously am not the right person to talk to about phone issues. However, for all that you've been bragging about your great girlfriend, you better ****ing patch this up. And you've been going out for, like, months now, right? You'd think it's be pretty strong by now lol.

I just watched Noiseman Souund Insect, which was like an entire Disney movie condensed into 15 minutes and then given moster amounts of acid. I like, even if I blinked and it was done. For some reason, it kept reminding my of the Pikachu Adventure movies O_o -
Discuss Idea: Ridiculously Over-powered and Mature Kiddies RPG Anyone?
2010DigitalBoy replied to AngryBarista's topic in Theater
op guy, the thing is not about the ages, it's the preference of people who suck. Basically, most of the sucky rps are made by people who watch ****** anime and play ****** videogames and go to recreate that ******ness in an rp. meanwhole, the people who are good writers just happen to not like those things and therefor don't write about them. It's all a matter of skill in corospondance to preference. the OB elite are mature, after all. Personally, I try to make my RPGs as stupidly overblown as possible, and I don't care about the ages. I'll be up for your little idea if I get to make the game, lol. After all, my character in Shinigami Dance was, like, 9, in mind and body at least. -
I like Konata's definitions, lol. (god, that sentence looks beautiful. Brief, pointed, and lol'd.) I practive the art of lol and XD alternation. Their purpose is simply to give emotion to a sentence, because I hate sounding like a goddamn robot XD.

~~~ (...............) Hours had passed. DB tried over and over to log in to Otakuboards, but to no avail. He kept receiving the message that either his email had not been varified... or he'd been banned. Each time he used up his 5 login attempts he waited a bit and tried again, never succeeding. "Damn you, Prem... I liked my username. But I guess it's time to change." DB created an alt account. He remembered how last time he switched accounts, Prem took months to realize it was him despite having the exact same tendencies in his posts. This time, DB created an alt with a brand new personality. Easily enough, he infiltrated OB as a n00b, and the big-shots paid him no mind. Even Premonition, who was hardly better than a n00b himself, overlooked DB entirely. However, DB noticed that Prem had become significantly less active. According to the Who's Online section, Prem had been spending most of his time in his PM Box. DB knew that his time for vengeance would come soon. * * * Prem sat in his chair in front of a giant screen where he was looking back through his old PMs. He was crying. The message was one from DB. In the background, a sappy Coheed song was coming through his speakers. He was remembering the thing he and DB had said to each other earlier. "Thank god you're still angry at me, now I've got a better chance of seeing you dead and buried!" Prem pulled his knees up to his chin and wiped his eyes with his sleeve as he continued to read the PM. "DB... you could've been dear... I wish you were here, still in the frame..." He wept some more. In the shadows behind him stalked EuphoricField, a new member Prem knew nothing about. He crept toward the weeping Prem, carefully reaching around him. Then all at once, he covered Prem's mouth with one hand, and with the other, knifed him in the back. Prem shot up from his chair and for a second made a gurgling noise. "Shhhh.... go to sleep..." DB whispered, disguised as the new member. Prem became silent wit death and DB carefully laid him on the ground. "Good night, old friend." DB started to leave, but then turned around to look at the screen. He recognized the PM immediately and began reading. He realized it instantly - he'd made a huge mistake! Prem was his friend, and they'd gone through so much together, yet here he'd stabbed the poor bastard in the back. Tears formed in DB's eyes and he looked down at the now bleeding body of his old chum. "PREM!" He hollered and rushed over to the lifeless body of his pal. He knelt over him. Prem's eyes were still open. "Speak to me man! You can't die!" DB was silent or a moment as his face hovered over Prem's. "I love ya, man!" DB's face lowered and he kissed Prem on the lips. As he held them there, a flash of light erupted from Prem's eyes and his body began to glow. DB pulled his head back and seconds later, Prem had risen from the dead! "Dude, I totally missed you." DB said with a smile. "Yeah. We should never have been fighting in the first place." Prem agreed. "Pals?" "Pals." "No homo, by the way." Just as DB added that statement, the ground below the two suddenly splintered, and from the cracks red light was pouring forth. The room began to rumble and suddenly the roof exploded, leaving a gaping hole, through which the sky could be seen raging with storm winds and lightning. From high in the sky, a man descended - an enormous man covered in dark red armor and wielding a huge blade. His eyes shone with the ferocity of hell itself; and on his shoulder was perched a little owl. The owl opened it's tiny beak and a thunderous voice came forth. "I'm tired of you little bastards and your bullshit!" "Oh fuck," DB started, "it's DeathKnight!" "That's right, asshole. And I'm about to give you little pricks a one-way ticket to OB PURGATORY!" The huge warrior raised it's blade and before Prem or DB had time to think, crashed it down, blasting both of their bodies in half in a flurry of gore and blood. The last thing heard by either member was DeathKnight's maniacal laughter as they plunged into hell. In the time it took to blink, Prem an DB found themselves standing in a red cave where fires were burning all around. "This is OB hell?" Prem asked. "I wonder who OB Satin is, lol." Just then, a drab voice in a grim tone echoed through the corridor. "Ye medicates masses seeking entrepenuarship o'er these burning waters Welcome to hell as men's minds subject themselves to imagine it Mind's eye melting macabre malicious men marauding..." "It's Mitch." DB said bluntly. As he did so, the shirtless man appeared before him, and without changing his facial expression one bit, proceeded to Mitch-slap DB so hard that the left half of his face melted. "Alright, that's enough. DB, let's fight our way back to OB!"
Here's my crack at it. If there's some minimum quality requirement, I don't blame you for throwing it out, despite having worked on it for hours >_
Color me fucking impressed and inspired. I had thought the sun set on the OB newspaper, but for you to go all out and publish an issue almost entirely created by yourself is a moving effort. You can bet I'll be in on the next volume! Since it's exam weak I have hay bales of free time, so I can get right to work! kickass! I think I need to add Aaryana to my ballot of nifty, if she hasn't won already before.
As an aside, I saw that thing with all the Haruhi seiyuu - you know, the thing that made Konata (the character :p) turn emo. Of course, I skipped most of the talking parts - the performance of God Knows is just as moving live, even though it doesn't have the same effect when it isn't related to the story. Overall, it was worth watching to see Shiraishi Minoru in a Haruhi outfit. I'd gladly donate my wife to him if I had one.
