Anime Your Anime/Manga Look Alike [Image Heavy]

I'm quite a bit skinnier than this fellow, but with the way I'm going right now, this is me by my college years... only I don't think his hair's as long as mine... -
Currently listening to Sunrise in Aries by God is an Astronaut. This is an interesting 3-piece post rock band with a unique sound in comparison to most of the genre. I was introduced to it by my pal lastarial (blog entry on album here. good review.) And found that on their myspace (here) they have practically every song they've ever written up for listening. Currently I'm listening to their newest album, Far From Refuge. The first song was alright, but Sunrise In Aries and now the piano track Grace Decending are quite impressive. It's nice to hear post-rock who aren't EitS wannabees.
Damn... what's the word?! I meant shatocon... thanks Wikipedia. And it has evolved. I can't watch one anime witout something cute popping it's flipping head up. As for nudity in anime one of the worst anime was Neon Genesis Evangelion imo... it was sexy though.
It's shotacon, and what the hell?! What does that have to do with moe? And who said anything about nudity? And what the hell, there is no nudity in NGE!!!
Teen Titans and their overl used japenese anime expressions. >_> I like most anime Geneon has shown art-wise. The art on Ergo Proxy is just amazing, as is Samurai Shamploo. One of my favorite styles is that of DB's banner. I love seeing anime girls like that. Tenjho Tenge has girls with HUGE breasts. Like snakes about to jump out and bite you in the eyes. But of coarse, the every-day young teenager is good. I have a thing for the younger anime girls okay! Ad DB you are wrong. Loli type stuff was in black and white anime as well. Ever see the original Astro Boy? Whenever I hear "open your chest cavity" I swear they're pedophiles. Honestly, and when that scientist asked the kid to be calm he sound so secretive... dirty almost. :animesigh:
Prem. I don't know if you know this, but Astro Boy is, well, a boy. Anyway, I'm not saying moe didn't exist in the past, but it's surely evolved.

I'm only allergic to pollen like most people, that is as far as I know. After all, I've never been stung by a bee or anything. I hate 'allergy season'. I end up filling my desk with tissues throughout class, then carrying them all to the trash at the end. Only in recent years dd I think to put the trashcan next to my desk...
Meh I hate moe. Mostly because cute isn't my thing. Although I do make exceptions for very special characters. Also a lot of moe characters look freaky...they have those dead eyes...
When was the last time you saw an anime with no moe characters in it that had any regular-looking anime characters in it? Even Kino is moe, BTW. These days it's unavoidable.

Well, Dark Cloud 1 sucked completely. Regardless of how good the second game is, I doubt it would have sold well in the wake of a sucky game that few liked. As for Zone of te Enders, I think its just the story. I can't think of a good ay to continue ot - it's brilliant as-is. I've never heard of that other one. Which probably speaks volumes about it's sales.

Because he does an absolutely stupendous job of explaining it, I'll link to the blog tat introduced me to this series for info. Click here. Anywho, now that you know what it's about, I'd first like to show my opinion as the show proressed through posts on another board. Because that board has a lot of profanity, these posts have been slightly edited.
once more thanks to Shiro's reccommendation, I am now knee-deep in and loving Hitohira[/B']. First time I've not hated the pigtail look as well.

As of episode four of Hitohira, Nono is officially the best character evar >_> Edit: Also, these subs are amazing - extremely high-quality.

Ep 5 - first time in a long time I said the words 'god ------- ----!' aloud in my own home. Nice.

I'm glad I only almost cried when
Nono lost her voice, because I would have felt like a total ------ when it turned out she got it back[/spoiler'] XD

Also, I'm halffway through ep 8 of Hitohira (bros keep interupting) I ------- love this show... Neko Punch!

After Hitohira 10, I must say, I'm glad I didn't watch this on the original run. Seeing a heartwrenching scene for the end of the episode, I can't imagine having to wait a week to see what hapens. In retrospect, I could probably say the same about Kanon or Air[/B'].
And now, here I am, right after having watched the best series I've seen in months and on the verge of crying my eyes out. If I were to liken this anime to anything, it would be Simoun. Not just for the yuri hints, since Hitohira was far less extreme, but with the overall theme and eventual impact of the series. Like Simoun, the series is a very mature drama that comes close to seinen but contains shoujo elements that combine into a gem of a show for anyone. I have to say, like every one of my favorite anime, I hated the ending at first, and even still a little. Mostly because when I care about the characters too much, I can't stand to see them go. But it's like Nono-senpai said, 'there isn't a play that lasts forever.' In fact, the general theme of the show, just like Simoun, is that things won't last forever, and that you have to move on. I could sit here and draw parallels between two of my favorite anime all day, but I'd rather not - let me just say that it's a series worth dedicating six hours to, just in case you missed it. .....*cries*
It's really just because the purpose behind the threads are basically identical; whether or not they were coordinated is another story. :p (They weren't ? I know.)
lulz. What's sad is, I was all worried over wheter a thread like that would be okay, and I even sent like a page-length thesis to Dagger asking if it would be okay following certain guidelines, and before I got te return PM, Revy had already started the other two and Dagger was just like 'sure, why not.' Needless to say, I felt kinda dumb. :animesigh Much as I'm proud of my thread, I'll let someone else write the article, because if I write it, it will be the most pompus, laughable thing you'll ever read XD I call the chocolate thread.

I'm a whore for moe and loli. You know, the stuff that's in, like, every show these days. I like girls who are short, young looking, small breasts, unrealistically large heads + eyes, the usual. Sure, there are other chracter desings I still like. Like Jing in the later gns... or some of the more realistic characters such as... The Genshiken Gang. But moe is my favorite (and I'm sure 90% of the anime community stands beside me). It comes in a thousand shapes and sizes, though. My personal favorite, though, is the type that features the most humble yet stylish character designs. The best example would be Hidamari Sketch. Who's style both in characters and animation are absolute love. Honestly, if you haven't seen this show, and I know you haven't, you are a disgrace :p (j/k) Yunocchi, the girl on the bottom right is beholder of my altime favorite look for an anime character. The look is common for her archetype... prolly my favorite archetype... Ah... well, because my brothers' insufferable acttions are my own suffering, I will talk also of the games they play too much. Since it's release in February 2002, we have collectively never really stopped playing Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. It is easily the game that we have clocked the most time into. now, for the first couple years there was actually a lot of game playing. We've beaten the game quite a few times and played certain missions several thousand times. But, of course, it's never really been about the game. It's always been about the chao garden. I can tell you... EVERYTHING... about chaos. We've researched them to minute detail. We've breed hundreds of the little buggers. Even though I've never really been into it at all, I was roped into doing most of the resarch as well. It's a thing that often gets forgotten about for months at a time, only to boil to the surface once more and devour two weeks of time from my brothers' lives. It's a sick, sick obsession. So, recently my brothers were warped into it again. My bro got a chaos chao and declared himself 'done' while my other brother only got jealous and created his own chaos chao and now spends supurfluous time levelling it in spite of complaints all around. Even my bro, who has always considered this one of his 3 favorite games ever and the one that created his Sonic obsession, has officially declared it a crappy game that he doesn't want to see anymore. ...I know he's lying to himself, though, cuz right now he's in there with his stupid friend and our youngest brother playing the first 10 seconds of Iron Gate to get power-ups, going back, giving them to chaos, rinse, repeat, eternalize. Anyway, numbers 2 and 3 are two extremely excellent games that we only stopped playing over the course of the past year due to complete and total oversaturation. While we did have one of them for a far longer time, the other is a game that we played so increadibly profusely in the time we've had it that it is rediculous. Phantasy Star Online is the game in question here, and let me tell you why I've come to hate it. You see, my brothers are idiots. Even though we've had characters with which we've reached the final boss of episodde 2, those characters are gone (data corruption - happens a lot with this game) and I cannot possibly tell you the number of characters we've had. There've been those who reached the level 20s or 30s, though most have either been in the teens or single digits by the time we cast them aside. Each of us has had every race and every class and knows how to play like a complete pro with any of them. I could draw you a map of Forest 1 and 2 right now. Even though I haven't played the game in 6 months, I know it like the back of my hand. So what finally got us to stop playing? Phantasy Star Universe, of course. Okay, PSU isn't multiplayer. But... at that point, the other two can watch the first one play and probably imagine themselves playing alongside them, lol. I, personally, was tired of PSO a while ago, but my bro needed the new game to get him to forget the old. BTW, I almost always play FoNewrl if you're interested. Next is Super Smash Bros. Melee. Because of the fact that, over the years, we've both had a thousand memory cards and only one memory card for long periods of time, we have had a very substantial amount of files for this game. And, of course, had to unlock every character almost as many times. I don't know if you know this, but to get Mewtwo alone you are required to have 20 hours of play time. Now imagine that times 11 or so. Yeah. So, I can also tell you how to get just about anything in this game. Why do we not really play it as much now? Well, because my brothers can't beat me. I'm just too good - I play Samus BTW. Not to mention there's only so many characters that are very fun to use, and the game just gets boring the buhmillionth time. Now, this one is a bit more of a recent vintage, since I've had it since Christmas '04 but I'm still not bored of Halo 2. My brothers and every friend we've had since that time have clocked insane amounts of time into multiplayer (there was even like a month where we played it on Xbox live after getting our 360). I gotta say, it remains my favorite multiplayer game. Unfortuanetally, 90% of our play time is either at Coagulation or Sanctuary. (mostly the former) Coag is the only good map from the original pack IMO. The Multiplayer Map Pack actually has plenty of cool ones, but Sanctuary is the best. For my brothers, any of the Pokemon games count. They still play all of them. I think that covers most of it.

Like Allamorph said, it won't be a problem for him to miss the first post, since he can catch up rather easily. Putting a date on Friday is only because I haven't exactly... conceptualized the next chapter yet. I'm having trouble figuring out what kind of thing would require multiple Deaths running around, though I've got an idea or two I'm toying around with. EDIT: Check out the first post. I will continue to update it like this. EDIT 2: Actually, since I thought today was Thursday, i'm changing Starwind's deadline to Thursday night. Also, scratch the above, Chapter Two is ready for going up! -
My first obsession ever was toy cars. I was like 2 or 3 and I spent all day lining up cars. According to my mom, I always lined them up in a straight line, biggest to smallest. To my mom, this was adorable, but when I think about it, I find it frightening :animedepr From that time period, there was also a BJ plushie from Barney that I carried around everywhere. The first show with excessive merchandice that I ever got into was Power Rangers. I have a truckload of Power Rangers action figures. My favorite was the blue ranger, Billy. My brother's was the pink ranger, Kimberly. No, he has not yet heard the end of this XD. Next was Beast Wars. I have all of the original series of beast wars toys, as well as the greater majority of every series after that. We were young, so they got broken a lot, to my mom's uber-chagrin. Eventually, she rebuilt every last one and put them all in plastic bags in a bucket not to be touched until we were older. We also have always had a freaking buhmillion random action figures of unknown origin. From random Kng-Fu guys to whatever shows were on TV when I was too young to remember. We also have all kinds of stuffed animals from said TV shows from when my bro and i were kids to when my youngest brother was little. Godzilla is another big one. We have a lot of the characters, from Rodan to that drill guy to a thousand different godzillas of different variety. After the American movie there were a lot of soldiers to be bought as well. My ultimate Godzilla toy is a two-foot version of the one from the hollywood film that I got for my birthday (it's broken of course) Before Godzilla was Jurassic Park/The Lost World. I have all the dinosaurs including the fusion dinosaurs, which I'm not sure why they existed. I've got all the vehicles from te second movie and half the damn cast as well. i even had one of the megacampers and the T-rex to come after it. My favorite is the T-rex that can eat your other toys and you pull then from his stomach even if his throat was too small for most of them. Around age 8-9 was the Pokemon obsession. While we have a few hundred toys of Pokemon, it doesn't even slightly compare to the card collection. We have at least 5000 Pokemon cards, I am not even remotely joking. Anything after that I wouldn't consider to be childhood, considering I'm only 16. As you can see, I've lived a very spoiled life. I never wanted one toy, I wanted them all. I was a franchise kid, too, never really got into any of the fad toys like yo-yos or anything.

I am likely going to get smacked in the face for being so vain, but I've got a suggestion for ye board designers. Okay, so as you all know, right under your username is your status as either a New Member or Member, and under that is your personal title. And under that is a link to your myOtaku if you have one, stating when it was last updated and linking to the guestbook and adding as a friend. Well, here's my hangup. The bar with the myotaku thing is really long and, in my opinion, really ugly. Whereas my name and other info is pretty and awesome, the big ugly thing messes up the whole setup. A lot of people have really cool, stylish titles that are squished by the long bar. Is there anyway that the myOtaku thing could be a line lower? It doesn't seem like it would streth out the box thingy. Perhaps if the other stuff is raised a little it could be lowered. I hope I don't look like a complete *** complaining about this. Has anyone else noticed this?
Just waitin' on Starwind and Premonition to post now.
it were gewd!
Inside joke btw
I think you are naming each chapter after a song, I just get that vibe. Now, I can't go and close in on mistakes, Allamorph does that best. But I ddidn't see any in particular. However, I'm dying to know who this boy is. Guide for Yume, rival of yume's, pervert wanting Yume,? Ahem, anyways, I'm wating for the next chapter, and I am loving what you have so far. I'm actually reading this story, all other stories I look at and go 'yup', without reading it. And I think I can spot a certain 'DB smell' in it. If you weren't a member and you posted this, I'm sure I'd know it was you. It just feels like something you'd make.
'God In An Alcove' is a song by the band Bauhaus that I always try to use as a chapter title, lol. It's funny, because with this particular story I've been writing the chapter titles after finishing the chapter, which is the opposite of what I usually do. After writing it I realised that I had literally put a god in an alcove and though 'oh hell yes!' 'Digging the Dredge Deeper' is not a song title, but it is based on a band called Dredg. The Dredg song 'Same ol' Road' is quoted in the chapter.
"Here we go... down that same ol' road again..."
The album with that song on it is a concept album about people with sleep paralysis, hence this quote as well
I'll give you a hint. It's not sleep paralysis, you're not on drugs, and you aren't physically here.
And of course, the ringtone is a more obcious line taken from the song Cicatriz ESP by the Mars Volta. Yes, the same song that the computer from the Panopticon was named after.
~~Beyond~the~anthills~of~the~dawning~of~this~plagu e~~

I figure at least a few of you listen to them, so it's worth having a thread about, especially if we can introduce new listeners. Dredg is a progressive rock band that has currently released three albums. The first, Leitmotif, which was created in 10 days and is the most strange of the albums. El Cielo, the 16-track thrill ride that sounds like listening to a dream. And Catch Without Arms, the band's most simple and straightforward album of which I've only heard 2 songs ^^;; Leitmotif 1. "易" (Also referred to as "Symbol Song")* ? 4:23 2. "Movement I: @45°N, 180°W" ? 1:02 3. "Lechium" ? 6:25 4. "Movement II: Crosswind Minuet" ? 1:23 5. "Traversing Through the Arctic Cold We Search for the Spirit of Yuta/Intermission" ? 6:38 6. "Movement III: Lyndon" ? 3:08 7. "Penguins in the Desert" ? 4:13 8. "Movement IV: RR" ? 3:00 9. "Yatahaze" ? 3:45 10. "Movement V: 90 Hour Sleep/Untitled" (secret track) ? 20:21 This might be my favorite album of all time, which is odd, because it's so short, and I'm a long album sort of person. The reason it's short, though, is because there is never any time wasted. The album is masterfully crafted to absolute prefection through and through. It is divided between 5 regular songs and five musical interludes, or 'movements'. Each of the movements leads into or out of a track on either side of it. This way, if you only want to hear the songs themselves and don't care about the more artsy stuff, you can just skip past it. Of course, you don't know what you're missing if you do. I can't even pick a favorite song from the album because they are all so unique and amazing. Symbol Song/Movement One is fast-paced and gets you right into the action as the perfect beginning to the album, leading into Lechium, which is more eerie and overall epic. Then we get to Traversing... which has a lot of acoustic guitar and unique sounds as well as interesting vocal work. Around there is where the movements start to become more of their own songs, like the almost creepy Lyndon which has a male opera singer along with the music. Penguins in the Desert combines the heaviest and calmest moments on the album perfectly into an emotional performance that gets you ready for the absolute masterpiece that is Yatahaze and the ultimate epic conclusion. If you stick around adfter the 8 minutes of silence I refer to as the 'credits' for this cinematic album (or fast frward through them if you're not in your car,lol) you also get a 10-minute seret track. The secret track is kind of just random experimental sounds and what appears to partly be the demo for Penguins in the Desert, and I absolutely love it. I can't say anything negative about the album except that the 2-minute intermission after Traversing is kind of boring. El Cielo 1. "Brushstroke: dcbtfoabaapasba" ? 0:57 2. "Same Ol' Road" ? 5:14 3. "Sanzen" ? 4:34 4. "Eighteen People Live In Harmony" ? 4:28 10. "Scissor Lock" ? 3:23 11. "Brushstroke: Reprise" ? 1:33 12. "Of The Room" ? 3:44 13. "Brushstroke: An Elephant In The Delta Waves" ? 1:47 14. "It Only Took A Day" ? 3:16 15. "Whoa Is Me" ? 5:36 16. "The Canyon Behind Her" ? 6:40 Dredg?s second album, El Cielo, is a very different sound from their first album, but just as amazing. The album is far more lyrical, and the songs are more defined. While there are still some insert tracks like on the first album, there are more regular songs, not to mention a larger tracklist, nearly doubling the length of the previous release. The sound is much more clean, for one thing. Like I mentioned before, the songs are sometimes more normal, featuring choruses and such, but there are still plenty of oddball songs as well. For example, the creepy track Scissor Lock is a personal favorite as well as Whoa Is Me which climaxes a several minute musical interlude with a spoken word part that sounds like a radio DJ talking about the song. There are so many wonderful quirks lacing together the beautiful tracks that it creates a tepestry of amazement. Like the first album, it?s ticket to greatness is it?s creativity, but it is creative in such a different way that it is a considerably new experience. Truly, both albums are masterpieces in their own right. Catch Without Arms 1. "Ode To The Sun" ? 4:12 2. "Bug Eyes" ? 4:13 3. "Catch Without Arms" ? 4:11 4. "Not That Simple" ? 4:56 5. "Zebraskin" ? 3:26 6. "The Tanbark Is Hot Lava" ? 3:45 7. "Sang Real" ? 4:28 8. "Planting Seeds" ? 4:12 9. "Spitshine" ? 3:34 10. "Jamais Vu" ? 4:55 11. "Hung Over On A Tuesday" ? 4:05 12. "Matroshka (The Ornament)" ? 5:38 I've only heard the first 2 songs on this album - Bug Eyes because it has a music video, and Ode to the Sun because it has a lot of AMVs on youtube. The songs sound a lot more TV-friendly than anything from their other two albums, but are stil unique in small ways. Not to mention Gavin's voice is always pretty. Ode to the Sun is a great track and easy to get stuck it your head ^^;;

Meh. I've never liked Korn much at all, though I never necessarily hated them. I loved Twisted Transistor back when it was their single - sang it all the time and had it stuck in my head. That might be the only song I ever liked by them though. Evolution, in my opinion, is the worst song they've had out yet. It's boring, for one, and drags on too long, and in a lot of places it just sounds really sloppy. I couldn't help but feel like the bandmates were uncoordinated or something - just a trrible, terrible song. Even my little brother heard them playing it live and came to me saying 'wow, that song was particularly bad.'

REC is a romantic comedy that is sure to warm your heart and keep your attention throughout. The story is told best by Wikipedia (for once). (though it basically kills all of ep 1)
At the beginning of the story, Fumihiko Matsumaru is outside a movie theater waiting for his date to arrive. When it becomes obvious that he has been "stood up," he crumples his tickets in frustration. As he is about to toss the tickets into a trash can, a girl approaches, and in the "voice" of the tickets, implores him to not waste them. Dumbfounded, he sees the movie with her, which is Roman Holiday. During the movie, he notices that the girl is reading the subtitles out loud. When he asks her about this after the movie, she says that she was practicing the lines, and that she wants to be Audrey Hepburn. At dinner, she explains that she is a 20-year-old novice seiy?. Going home, they find that they live in the same neighborhood before they part ways. (In the anime, she recites appropriate lines from Roman Holiday.) Matsumaru goes to bed, but he can't sleep. In the darkness, he hears the sounds of sirens; there is a fire in the neighborhood. When he goes to investigate, he discovers that the girl's apartment has burned down. Since she has nowhere to stay, Matsumaru asks her to stay at his apartment; she dazedly accepts. Due to the circumstances, they end up falling into bed together. She introduces herself as Aka Onda just before they make love.
REC is only 9 episodes long, and each episode is only 12 minutes is you include opening and ending songs. So really, there's no excuse not to watch it :p And if you're like me, you'll watch it all at once. The animation in the series is, of course, superb, having been done by the studio SHAFT (Sayonara etsubou Sensei, PaniPoni Dash), and you can see just how lovingly crafted it is. Not to mention there are great sound effects and music (addicting OP) and the vocal cast is great (fitting for an anime about a voice actress.) The chracters are what makes this show, and since I instantly fell in love with the charccters, you can guess how I felt about it. REC is a mature anime - it's realstic with it's characters and their development, ywt simultaneously has a lot of odd situations that you really dont expect from real life. This combination of realism and unrealism was done perfectly in my opinion. And I don't thing there's much more to say. The series is just plan endearing - it's probably impossible not to like. Within such a short time it captures and holds your attention and tells a memorable story full of charm and all-around fun. At it's most lighthearted, it is funny and exciting, and at it's most depressing it is heart-wrenching and leaves you glued to the seat. Truly a gem of a series.

Holy hell, did I just casually walk into the thread and see someone badmouthing Gunslinger Girl?! *writes you down on the 'do not listen to their reccomendations' list* Aside from the first 2 episodes of GG, what I've seen was a spectacular anime that does a great job of capturing the feel of my favorite manga. (the trouble with the first two is that they seemed to split one episode in half and had to use scenes from the first over again). I give it a high reccomendation. Anywho, I streamed REC last night and if there's no thread for it, I'm about to create one. -

Tool is one of my favorite bands, and one of the ones that got me into music as a whole. Lateralus is easily what I would consider their magnum opus, being comprosed almost solely of maasterppieces or just otherwise great material. Parabola, Schism, and Lateralus are my personal favorites, but there isn't a song on the album I dislike. AEnima s also an amazing disk, though there are certain songs I find more boring (Namely Jimmy. Never liked that song). Jake, I always find their lyrics to deep, even when I know they're about sex. Stinkfist I always likened more to masturrbation, but still, it's a deep and meaningful song IMO. Besides, the band stresses personal interpretation, no? Undertow is pretty cool. A few of the songs sound too much alike in my opinion, but it's also got great sngs like Bottom - the epitomy of rage in my opinion. similar to ths is the EP Opiate which I also thought as excellent. 10,000 Days is by far my least favorite of their albums, and every time I listen I like it less and less. It's just so... gaudy and unfun. EDIT: I forgot to mention A Perfect Circle. I bought one of their albums a while back. The one that's red with the gold rings on it. I've never been able to pay attention the whole way through. I hate it. I've tried it out once every so often to see if my opinion changes, but it never does. I consider it the worst album in my collection. -

Since I heard y'all talking I decided to check some stuff out. I just got done watching episode one of Mononoke and afterward, promptly dropped it. The artstyle is too much - I can't handle it. It doesn't do much at all in the way of characterzation or anything, just trippy animation and weird stuff happening - not enough substance for me. It reminded me wholly of the movie Mind Game. I also watched episode one of Golden Age, which seemed pretty cool. Definitely has some sick battles already. The way the kid calls the space ship his mom was awesome XD Like man shows of it's type, though, the first episode was more like a prelude than a beginning.
