*poke* read my post about getting into anime. :p I've only been into it starting a few years ago, and the few times I've heard the phrase 2ch, it was an abbreviation for second chapter/season. No matter, I'm learning. And yes, you're right 4chan is evil. lol :catgirl:
:p I wasn't making fun of you or anything, just informing - consider yourself informed. Anywho, my favorite of the LS parodies that I've seen was the Cowboy Bebop op thing. The chocolate coronet as Jet's ship was utterly perfect.

I think an introductory section wouldn't be too bad. I know that I personally PM most of the new members who interest me (Konata included) just to help them feel welcome, or tell them how glad I am to see cool new people XD As for goodbye threads... no one ever leaves OB. EVER!!!! -
Oh I agree. It's like she's always been weird and they just keep springing more of her funny personality on you as each episode is aired. lolHmmm... the ending or the Lucky Channel? Since I like that Lucky Channel with Akira more than I do the actual ending. And my favorite so far was the first one. Where Akira got
cranky and reached into her shirt a bit to scratch herself.
That totally cracked me up. lol Favorite reference, that I actually caught, was in the third episode. The Wedding Peach and Detective Conan reference. :catgirl: Oh and the Initial D one was pretty funny too. Favorite character is definitely Konata. I love her zany personality and how she's such an otaku and hard core gamer. That and for whatever reason she totally comes across as how I've always pictured Desbreko. That alone made her instantly lovable. I haven't gotten to the second season yet. So that last question doesn't apply to me.
If you are thinking that 2ch meant second season, then you have much to learn, my friend XD. Anyway, 2ch is '2 channel' or basicaly the biggest anime community on the internet in Japan. In america, we have '4chan' based on it. 4chan is the epitomy of evil XD

The Bible says to not accept homosexuality and I don't.
And why, exacly, do you do just as the bible says? Do you have no mind of your own? I mean, I'm not saying anyone is stupid for liking the ideas of the bible, but it's just a book with some good ideas. It's dangerous to trust everything you read, yaknow. -

I bloody hate wide rule too! I can't stand to waste that much damn paper. When I have wide rule paper, I tend to respond be witing as unintelligebly and erratically as possible (I've been told I have the worst handwriting in the history of time, period). College rule makes the space smaller and therefor easier to manage, plus I fit more on the damn paper. Also, I always feel it necessary to either shorten something so that it fits only on the first page, or if I end up on the back, I write everything spaced out and large so I can reach the bottom of the page. Or I write a post statement. Or 3. I agree that a blank page is daunting. In word, I hate how you can't look at the other page, and if you try it resets whenever you backspace. It's the most frightening when you aren't fully sure what you intend on saying next... drives me insane... -

Pretentious Music for Pretentious Musicians
2010DigitalBoy replied to Jakehammaren's topic in Noosphere
This is why you're on my buddy list Jake! You're always bringin the good stuff! Anyway, lately my obsession has mostly been dredg. They are a prog-rock/experimental band with a sound that varies over albums. Their first album, Leitmotif, is the one I have and from what I've heard of all three, it is by far their best. The sound is remniscent of The Mars Volta on their album Frances the Mute with a whole lot of music and not too many lyrics, though their music doesn't bog down to as little as the Mars Volta's tends to, and the CD is much shorter. Their other albums are very remniscent of Coheed and Cambria's style, which is stil great, but not quite as much. Also, my cousin just introduced me to Pelican through their album City of Echoes which I must say is absolutely fabulous. It's like post-rock with a kind of pregressive edge in that it is very technical and operates in odd time signatures at times. He gave me a copy of City of Echoes and Australasia, both of which i'm excited about. -

XD I agree with both of you. Well, for me I can't really do anything with someone standing behind me. I get really mad at people for being behind me - there's like a 120 degree angle proportional to my spine where no one can be at any time >_> Otherwise I loose functionality. It sucks when I'm on the comp cuz if my mom's in the room behind me I'm like 'mom... could you.. not stand behind me?' to which the reaction is always 'why?! Are you looking at something you don't want me to see?!' ... like I'm going to be looking at porn midday in the living room ... -
Green Day was a (mildly) decent band in the beginning, but they soon began to allow their egos to swell their heads and thus began their downward spiral of mediocre - nay - sub par musicality. As for Linkin Park, sure I bought their first CD when I was in middle school, as did most kids in my area at that time, but I outgrew them in about 2 months. And by "outgrew them", I mean I realized that all their songs sound the same and lack substance, and there are soooo many bands out there that are phenomenally better than them.
For Green Day, I actually like some of their more recent stuff more. I don't think their egos really had anything to do with it because while Dookie was a great success, every subsequent album up until American Idiot suffered mild obscurity - namely because most of them were less catchy and some like Warning had a more experimented sound. I mean, I only knew who Green Day was because I grew up on Dookie and with the knowlege that they had taken care of me before, but until American Idiot, I'd never known anyone who'd heard of them. In fact, Billy Joe even said that they almost broke up the band before AI. As for my opinions of their albums, it varies. I like some of Dookie, a little bit of Nimrod, haven't heard most of the others. Warning is a great CD in my opinion. It has a very down-to-earth style and a humbling effect to it. American idiot is one of the albums that got me into music a couple years ago. It's epic and yet catchy at the same time - something hard to pull off but the lyrical content is what enticed me the most. Overall, I'm not nearly as keen on the CD since I listen to a whole different genre these days, but I still appreciate it. As for Linkin Park... well, while all their songs sound amazingly similar, there really aren't too many bands that have the same sound (well... there are now of course XD) or if there are, they don't have the same skill. I mean, both Chester and Mike have wonderful singing capabilities IMO. Mike is a good MC and Chester sings with intense emotion. If you ignore all the ******** around the band and just listen to the music, it's not the best out there, but it's still not like it's terrible. I dunno, maybe I'm just biased, clinging onto the shreds of my childhood :p all I have to say is - I was listening to them before it was cool! XD
-
Except for Green Day and Linkin Park, I second Mr. Maul's entire beautifully comprehensive list. Even those two bands I mostly like for nostalgia... though I'd be lying if I said Meteora wasn't still a favorite of mine... EDIT: As for your plea to end genre discussion... well, it's a rather enlightening talk and all in good fun - it's not like anyone's up for getting all that offfended on an internet forum. Honestly, it's a thousand times more interesting than just listing bands you don't like. Agfter all, this thread was practically created for trolling...

Writing How to Restore Your Creative Muse [Help thread]
2010DigitalBoy replied to Aberinkula's topic in Creative Works
Interesting, Break, that you mentioned not being able to write creatively since you live an ordinary life. For me, I've always had to ask myself how can I write realistic characters when the only person I understand is myself? I feel like I'm not allowed to write about anyone unless they're like me, simply because I hate to see a lack of realism in my characters :animesigh As for suggestions to read or immerse oneself in pop culture, that can be a double-edged sword. I am listening to music 24-7, I watch a ton of TV and anime and stuff, so I've always got something around me. The thing is, that works in 2 ways for me. The first is that I tend to let the music I listen to get involved in my writing. You can see this a lot in the titles of chapters in my RPs ("And the Druids turn to Stone" = Ayreon, "Time Consumer" = Coheed and Cambria) and often times the tone of the music and how it effects my mood comes into play as well. The problem with that is that if I change what I'm listening to, sometimes the tone can suddenly change dramatically >_> For instance if I'm depressed, my characters are gunna be all sobby, but then when i get happy again, I won't want to deal with the depressing situations. The second effect of looking to other stories is that I let them influence me to the point that I feel like i'm ripping them off. For instance, when I read Genshiken it got me all pumped to do a slice-of-life story and when I watched Welcome to the NHK, I thought of doind a seclusive psychological story, but then I always feel like I'm ripping someone off. That's why I've been doing very little creative writing lately and focusing mostly on RPGs, where i can control the story, but don't have the pressure of always having to continue the story. -
At Takuya's offer I will be handing control of this rp over to him until I am off hiatus. I haven't really given him any kind of framework, so whatever happens is purely his ideas. I'll come back sometime when I can, but until then, Liam belongs to anyone who feels like writing him in. I'd like to request Joe not yet be freed though, since I do have plans for him. cheerio.
Hey, I think it's perfectly fine to disregard a band based on it's members. For example, I refuse to listen to Burzum based solely on the fact that I could never support anything masterminded by Varg Vikernes.
Well... that's kind of different. If they are forcing that kind of thing on you in their lyrics, then that counts as part of their music. It's not like M. Shadows is singing about how much DEP sucks...

Request Ladies of London (font assistance)
2010DigitalBoy replied to James's topic in Creative Works
I wasn't certain of what kind of font you were looking for, but I used two from my computer that felt like they fit the image. The fonts are Desdemona and Bleeding Cowboys.
I think the first one works really really well, but I just felt like pointing out that an American theme like 'Bleeding Cowboys' would be rather ironic set against Ladies of London :p though it still looks good - one of my favorite fonts. -
Prem, honestly, just close your mouth about genre altogether. Don't try to support the people who sound smart, and don't try to sound smart yourself, because you're only going to get yelled at more >_> Anyway, I personally try not to hold my opinion toward the members of a band in regards to how I think of their music. I hate M. Shadows with a complete vengeance, especially because they even made fun of Coheed, my favorite band, who is much better than them technically and just in general. I can ignore this, though, if I think their music is good, and it is pretty good, so I can enjoy it. I've liked about half the songs I've heard on Waking the Fallen, and disliked the other half. The ones that sound too much like Pantera or somethig annoy me because I don't like Pantera, and the ones with too much of that horrendous screaming are of course ruinous. The one song that they had as their single was pretty cool, and I kind of liked Chapter Four and one or two others. Really, though, nothing I thought compares to CoE.
-
I've had a Fender whosit since I was 10 and dreamt of playing, though I was too young and stupid to keep interest. Nowadays I wouldn't mind learning, though lately I take more interest in the bass since I've come up with some cool riffs on my bro's. As for my favorite guitarists... Claudio Sanchez from Coheed and Cambria is simply amazing. The extended solos from their live shows are great, especially the version of The Final Cut seen in their DVD The Last Supper. He plays with his guitar behind his head, with a violin thingy, and, of course, with his teeth, and the other guitarist gets in some great talk box usage on some songs. An amazing band, truly. Omar A Rodriguez-Lopez from The Mars Volta is one of the more creative guitarists out there. I can't even really describe his guitar playing - you just have to hear it in action. Listen to the songs L'via L'viaquez and Tetragrammaton to really hear it in action.
And prem....Do you mean to tell me that because Matt stopped screaming a little, A7X suddenly became better? City of Evil was a pure good album. Hands down, Matt didn't even have to sing at all, it was all in the band.
'M. shadows' has to be the worst vocalist of all time, period. Back when he was screaming, he had the weakest, most uninspired bitchy scream I have ever heard. It was like listening to an iguana scream or something - or like he was half dead and grasping for breath. When he sings, he sounds like he's whining into a microphone and has next to no emotion behind his sound. Honestly, the first couple of times I listened to CoE I couldn't eevn listen to it because his voice was so freaking annoying that I couldn't stand to hear it - especially cuz for most of the album he sings constantly and what's more there's voice overlaps all over the place so it's like hearing a chorus of dead cats belting out the lyrics. I ended up liking the album, though, simply because it's so epic and the musicians don't deserve to be ignored just because they are brought down by their crappy lead man. Their old albums, though, I still can't handle. That scream is positively unbearable.

(If this pic is too much, I will remove it) Epside 2~ The second episode basically is all about Najimi being embarassed about the fact that she is going to enter the doujin industry. Her friend is trying to get her all sorts of reference material from a doujin shop and buys her some essential drawing utensils. As the episode is so short, it's basically just a whole lot of zaniness going on with Najimi as she tries to hide her embarassing secret from friends and in public. Naturally, it leads to embarassing situations and zany hijinks. We also meet a normal friend of Najimi... who is kind of cool, though we haven't seen much of her - in fact that's kind of where this show stands right now. We don't know much of anything about the characters or what to expect in the future except more hijinks. In that respect, this show is even more shallow than most comedy anime I've seen, but still good for a smile if you have 15 minutes of free time.
The only real point to be made here is that almost no one on the planet uses genres (particularly sub-genres) correctly and thus I don't really see the point in having to really differentiate between them to this degree. I suppose it is of interest when really trying to pin down what you like and what you do not so that you may find new groups that interest you, but when it has to debase into "he doesn't scream like this so it's not my genre!!!" I think it's into new territory entirely. This isn't in reference solely to screamo vs emo, since I know of the differences, but rather this whole overall wave of be really specific or I'll rip your face off genre discussions that seem to have taken over the Internet. I don't even know how people enjoy music anymore. Meanwhile, we have people writing off really amazing bands such as Say Anything that don't fit into ANY definition of "emo", whether it's low key crap about feelings or screamo or whatever else. I mean, what's the point of genre labeling in this case? To dismiss a band for false reasons? I mean, it's one thing when you apply the things correctly (like perhaps I'd say Jake does), but it's another when you apply these incorrectly as attacks. I don't even see the point. We're in a situation where somehow "indie" is a genre and if no one else finds that ridiculous, I'm not sure what to say. Genre whore-ism has to die.
It mostly comes down to people being defensive of their genre. Someone who likes the genre known as 'emo' does not want people to think that they listen to MCR so they try to excentuate what bands are actually 'emo'. Now this really is the wrong way to go about it. Rather than designate themself a genre, people ought to give every band a chance and say what bands they like and hate. That's why I went through the trouble of writing out a whole list of every individual band I hate except the ones I don't know the names of.Same goes for bands we like...

School Days is another dating sim turned anime, but this is one that most fans are only watching for the ending. The game School Days has a total of 21 endings. These range from individual endings with the main characters, sub characters, and even harem endings, but the game is infamous for it's three 'bad endings'. These three endings involve depicitions or insane gratuitous violence and character killing as well as rape. While we can be almost sure that these endings won't get televised, it'll be interesting to see which of the endings are chosen. So here's the story: the main character is Makoto Itou. Makoto notices a beautiful girl who goes to his school and rides the train at the same time as him every day. He finds himself having strong feelings for her, even though he's never met her. Locally there is a trend of taking a picture of a girl you like on your cell phone and keeping it and if you don't tell anyone than you will end up falling in love. Well, Makoto takes her picture, but the next day he's about to delete it in class. Before he can though, the girl who sits next to him, Sekai Sainoji, notices the picture and begins a note-passing with Makoto telling him that she knows that girl and tells him to come to the roof with her. Sekai basically decides to become the matchmaker for Makoto since she is interested in the situation. Within days, Sekai befriends the girl, Kotonoha Katsura, and helps her meet Makoto and even get them dating. I won't spoil anything beyond that, since things evolve a lot very quickly, so I'll just jump right into how I feel about this show after 2 episodes (where it's at right now). So far, I'm very much enjoying this show. It could just be because the last show of this kind i was watching was the slow-moving Sola, but this show moves very fast and gets things done quickly, plus it keeps your interest and doesn't sit there and flaunt the mysteries it's hiding. My favorite thing about this show is that it feels realistic, and the dialogue is very natural feeling. Maybe it's because some of the characters remind me of my own friends, but I feel like this cast is pretty realistic. Speaking of the cast, i like that for the most part it's kept reserved between the three main characters for the most part, only allowing tiny bits of outside influence (though this could change). The show moves at a realistic pace and the dating aspect feels like it should. There's nothing that bothers me more than a show where the obvious lovers are all dodgy and by the end they haven't even kissed or some crap - real teenagers aren't like that! Anyway, I'm having a lot of fun with this show so far, and each cliffhanger has me on the edge of my seat for the next episode. I have to say, I'm looking forward to following this one through. Also, I love the character desings. I'm a big fan of girls in black, though not always a fan of goth-loli. It strikes the right spot.

I've been having a whole ton of extremely strange dreams lately. There was another school one that I can't remember, but mostly there's been a whole lot of really odd ones, such as one where my brother and I were in a car and i accidentaly pressed a button to call the police and we were sitting there, in the driveway of one of my older houses, at night, hoping we wouldn't get in trouble. Last night I fell asleep after listening to my new dredg CD, and I faintly remember dreaming that I had just bought one of their other albums and was listening to it. The most vivid and utterly weird dream I had recently, though, was a 1984 esque crazy and mysterious tale. It started with me in my room, which was perfectly square. I left my room into an endless purple corridor with a short ceiling and rather narrow corridor. i remember that every wall floor and ceiling in this world was this shade of purple. Anyway, the corridor went on endlessly it seemed and there were other corridors branching off of it. The whole thing wwas very claustrophobic, which is good for me because I love closed spaces. Anyway, I was apparently a man in, like, my twenties who was apparently important in some way. I go a few doors down this hall and enter another door to a meeting that was somehow important. I remember that it was a mid-sized room shaped like a recangle with a long semicircular white desk that curved across the room at a few feet wide. There were 3 other.... things attending the meeting with me. I can't remember if they were machines or something - in my mind they were 3D Kite shapes that were silver. In any case, on the other side of the long desk there was a massive screen covering the whole wall. All I remember is that suddenly the thought came into my head that none of this was real. For some reason, I thought that there was some oppresive ruler governing this place, and that I was under his control; and that these thoughts were new to me. Around that time a group of police in blue uniform stormed into the room (they looked like characters from Astro Boy or some other old anime). So they take me out into the corridor and drag me down the hall and around the corner to another room. This one is a lot larger than the last, and there's a gate of iron bars separating half of the room - indicating that it is a jail house. So I am thrown in jail, and I have this whole 'government bringing me down' mentality. For some reason, the entire floor of the jail cell was now covered in several inches of broken glass. Depressed, i lay in it face first and think of sad stuff. If it wasn't weird enough, this is the weirdest part. Suddenly there is another guy in the cell doing the same as me, and apparently I know that he is innocent and he is apparently like my lawyer or something. Anyway, at this time I suddenly am him. I sit up from the glass, looking at the guy I used to be, and I think for a second I knew I'd changed bodies. Right about then, the guard says 'there's someone here to see you.' That's when this increadibly beautiful, short, dark-skinned girl shows up and tells my old self that she is in love with him, and the guards let him out to go with her. Right afterward, her sister, who is slightly taller but otherwise kind of the same look, comes to the cell and says that she is in love with me, which she found out, like, seeing me in the hallway or something. Anyway, am released to go with her. We leave down the hall, heading back the way I came to get here. I see the former me and the other girl walking into the room where the dream started, and my room is across the hall. My room is almost all taken up by a massive bed. I can't tell you about the rest, because it involves gratuitous sex. >_> In any event, it was a strange but cool dream... a lot of my recent ones have been, though some of them have been a bit frightening.

My god... Nom, you (string of explatives), what the hell right do you have to judge the fact that someone doesn't like screaming? Just cuz you don't like screaming doesn't mean you misunderstand the genre. I think I understand the (vast plethora of) genres of metal far better than you do, Nom, and I'm mature enough to know that some people don't like screaming regardless of the music behind it. I don't even like screaming myself! Death Metal bands almost always sound like ******** screming into the mic with their pseudo-toughness, black metal bands think their all damn dramatic - it's annoying far more often than it's cool and by the way, they put the freaking lyrics over the music most of the time, so if you don't like the lyrics, it can be impossible listen to.

I just got the first Dredg album, Leitmotif. It consist of... 1. Symbol Song 2. Movement I: @45 N, 180 W 3. Lechium 4. Movement II: Crosswind Minuet 5. Traversing through the acrtic cold, we searched for the spirit of Yuta/intermission 6. Movement III: Lyndon 7. Penguins in the desert 8. Movement IV: RR 9. Yatahaze 10. Movement V: 90 Hour Sleep The entire album is amazing, especially if listened to all together. The only part where I loose interest is intermission, which is like 2 minutes of random sounds and silence, but other than that the whole album is simply wonderful. It's like the Mars Volta, only with less things laid over each-other. The 5 movements are all instrumental interludes, some long and some short, but all leading either into or away from one of the 5 major tracks. Of the major tracks, my favorites are Symbol Song (actually a Chinese cahracter looking thing, though their site lists it as 'Symbol Song') and Yatahaze, but all 5 are breathtaking and unique.

Anime Moetan! Engrish For Beginners!
2010DigitalBoy replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
This is the most awful, reprehensible series I've ever seen. The transformation sequence all by itself is probably in violation of the UN Declaration of Human Rights. Everything about this show screams that it was made entirely by pedophiles for public enjoyment by, and ONLY by, other horrible sexual predators like themselves. This is the end of human civilization, folks, it's all downhill from here. In ten years the only form of anime (the only form of entertainment whatsoever, for that matter) that will still exist will be newborn infants of indeterminate sex - who are of legal age nevertheless - running around in skimpy two-piece bathing suits waving about magic cellphone-ipod-wiimote-wands while various in-show perverts drool over them. Every moment of Moetan represents the essential sadness and futility of the human species, its massive failure at everything. After this we pretty much deserve whatever it is fate has in store for us - Moetan is just that god damned terrible. Naturally, everyone should go and watch the series IMMEDIATELY. Highly recommended!
That's the best post I've read all week, on any forum, period. KLike he said, go watch. Melt your brain with us!
