Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
2010DigitalBoy replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
Ergo proxy sucks, don't watch it >.> Anyway, I just started Irresponsible Captain Tylor, having bought the first volume at a used DVD store. The company the released it is one I've never even heard of, so you know these things gotta be hard as **** to find >_< in any case, the first 3 episodes were hilarious. I didn't know wht to expect from the first ep because even though there was one absolutely HILARIOUS gag, it was mostly plot exposition and little of Tyler himself. However, the next 2 eps made up for it with much awesome hilarity. The DVD has an impressive 7 eps on it, too :O though I had already DLed it anyway lol. -
I've read some of the Toyo Mew Mew manga - it was my first manga. It was before I had even read Naruto and became a raving fan - a time when ALL I watched was pure action shows and I was like 12-13. I still liked Tokyo Mew mew. I bet if I read it now, I'd love it. There's nothing wrong with Tokyo Mew Mew, Panache. Have you ever even seen it? For god's sake, stop bitching about 4kids! Just don't watch their shows, or better yet, go watch them in Japanese or something! There's no reason to complain, YES they are making it kiddy, because their aiming demographic is 7 year old kids and those kids shouldn't be watching bloodsoaked shows full of cuss words. Yes, the dubbing is bad, because they do it on purpose - little kids like characters who yell, it's appealing, EVERY little kid's show is full of yelling (sit down with CN on for an hour, you'll see what I mean). And bobobo can be censored or uncensored it's still random FotNS parody.
I watch a lot of shoujo...It's a meaningless demographic . And Shoujo is for young girls through teen girls.
So do I, but if you aren't in the aimed demographic, you shouldn't be whining. That's why I don't usually whine about how ****** Naruto is, I whine about how ****** people are for watching it.

Seeing as how the new season of Gunslinger Girl is being lashed at everywhere as the biggest facepalm trainwreck of the season, I'm glad to say that the first episode of Persona was really good. I'm a big fan of the Persona 3 game, in fact it's my alltime favorite game, but I'm only about 10 hours into it. not that that matters, because the show is on a different story, however, there are plenty of references that will require at least some knowledge of the game. Firstly, the animation is incredible and there's an expensive vocal cast, so high-budget is written all over it. Even though Shoji Meguro is missing, we stil get some great songs and the Return of the ****ing Awesome Rap Songs which is a MAJOR plus from me, because Persona 3 has my favorite game soundtrack. In addition, it was a nice bonus that one of the songs from the game was playing in the cafe right after the break. The opening theme is really cool and the ending video was just. plain. awesome. Overall, Persona has yet to show itself as much more that a mystery action show a-la Darker Than Black or something, however the fights are very well-directed and animated so it will be pretty to look at. Let's just hope the plot goes in the right direction.

i'm listening to Queen of the Borrowed Light by Wolves in te Throne Room, which I've heard more that their other songs because all of them are so ****ing long that it's hard to get around to hearing them all XD. Amazing, through and through. The album has to be one of the greatest things ever recorded, period.
Tokyo Mew Mew - 4kids, why must you rape our young minds with badly edited and crappy anime? WHY??? This show is just annoying. So annoying Helen Keller can't even stand it! I'm suprised One Piece is even one piece anymore, 4kids didn't shatter it to **** like all the other shows, thank god. I can't say anymore, 4kids, do you not want us to know about Japan. So WHUDAFXUP?
I'll agree that SEED and Trinity **** are both lame shows, but dude.... Tokyo Mew Mew is shoujo. Yeah, it's bad enough that 4kids probably butchered it, but in the first place it's SHOUJO. As a teenage boy YOU AREN'T SUPPOSED TO WATCH IT. The show is meant for little girls, for crissakes!!! And Lunox, some of us likes em young :p
Heh. I understand FLCL, but I don't care for it. That style of comedy doesn't appeal to me in the least. The best moments are the quiet, subtly emotional parts (and they are very well done, I'll give it that). Loved Gunbuster 2, on the other hand, although people have compared its tone to FLCL's. I can see where they come from, based on the first episode or so, but overall it's a huge mistake to think that the two are anything alike even on the level of direction style, beyond a few early moments.... and in that case I think the comparison only came up because FLCL is from the same studio. Would I call FLCL bad? No; it's just not for me. ~Dagger~
You also don't like Lain, though, so your trustworthines is put into question XD Seriously, though, I NEED to watch all of Gunbuster 2. I have only seen the first 2 eps (and yeah, I even made the OMG it's liek flcl comparison) but now I feel bad about having done so. Oh, and Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo is genius. It's, like, the greatest show ever on principle alone. Just thought I'd toss that out there. But really, I'm trying not to be defensive, just saying. Oh, and uh... I think Spiral shoud be added to my list f sucky *** anime. I've only had to put up with a few episodes but dear sweet Jesus I can't stand that ****. Most. Contrived. Situations. EVER. and the dialogue is godawful.
I JUST DON'T GET IT.
That's basically all it comes down to. You really have to look at it carefully and with educated eyes to really get it (and by educated, I mean you know how to decifer a show's plot n some level beyond the surface). FLCL is a masterpiece, IMO, but I won't try to force it on you.
Also, Deus Ex, live-action characters?! Are you kidding me?
Missed that comment before XD sorry for using a stupid term, but yeah, I hated using real faces. I just can't get into that... can't see myself making an interesting character out of it. and Darren, well, I've got an assload of free time now (ironically) but I don't think the others do. But, like, here's an interesting concept - why don't you create it and see if you can get a different cast of players this time? i mean, having all the usual ones tied up for a bit ought to be interesting if we can snatch up some fresh blood. At this point, we all know each other's minds in this area anyway, maybe as everyone watches it they can get a new perspective of the game thenselves. I say start it up ASAP.

They are probably some kind of industrial rock or something - I'm sure someone will come to correct me. -
I finally saw the whole series and really liked it. Have been looking or a complete boxed set to get but it seems that they still haven't put one out yet. I definitely feel like I need to watch the whole series again to pick up all the little references that I'm sure I missed. I liked the dark, psychological mood to the anime. Can anyone recommend anything similar? Laz
Someone is going to recommend Serial Experiments Lain, so I am going to beat them to the punch. Lain is a very dark, consuming series which is quite grinding - it's quiet, a little creepy, and lacks any sort of action, it's occassional dialogue used to suck you into it's story. It's psychological on the highest level, to the point that it professes a philosophical viewpoint however most people who watch it claim to take as many as 4 viewings to understand it (I didn't have to rewatch it myself, but maybe I'm some kind of freak) If you like Ergo Proxy, will you like Lain? I can't say for sure. Lain is among my top 5 shows of all time, and I hated Ergo Proxy (just sold my DVD + artbox today) but I just thought I'd get in on the rec before anyone else.
I realy didnt like Kodocha, Bobobo-Bobo-bobo, and all the Yu-gi-oh series. Bobobo-Bobo-bobo was just a little too random for me despite the fact that I do like random comedy, but they took it a bit over the top. Kodocha was just plain stupid, most of the kiddies acted way too mature and they were and they were in elementary school or something. With Yu-gi-oh, I played with the card a long long time ago, but i never caught onto the whole aime deal with it. They just seemed over dramatic when they were just playing a card game.
Yugioh is suppised to be over-the-top XD though yeah, it's pretty dumb. But anyway, WTF on the Kodocha hate? I have a brother who's 11, and I can tell you he's easily on the maturity level of Kodocha's cast (In fact, it's his favortie show, besides Hare + Guu).
Stop listening to Swallow the Sun.
Maybe after you stop being a douchebag? Telling people not to listen to bands because they don't like them for the right reasons is ****ing stupid, grow up. -
first ep of the winter season(not counting the horrible rosario to vampire). so, the first ep of H2O has been subbed, and my impression is that I'll definitely check out the next ep, but my feelings are wishy-washy as of yet. There were some things that said 'this show has potential' and others that said 'generic eroge-romance with moe influx'. I don't even know if it is based on an eroge or whatever, the kids are in middle school and stuff, but whatever. The ep starts off interestingly enough - we see who is apparently the lead female getting the **** kicked out of her by these guys. We also have a girl calling herself the Spirit of the sounds of Time or something like that. However, we don't see them long at first, and we meet the 5 or so school gals who are all brimming with generic uber-moe. The shy girl, the mean ***** loli with twintails, the other moe-moe classmates and all. Oh, and did I mention the main character is blind? He's blind. And there's a mix of blind badass who can smell his way around and blind flailing useless lump. In any case, before long we are introduced into a factor of the girl from before getting hated by everyone in class and ruthlessly brutalized by these ugly bastard, but everypne's telling the new guy to stay ut of it. Of course, he tries to be defensive, but, like, he's ****ing blind and fails. This is where the spirit girl comes in since she can grant him sight for periods of time. Conveniant, eh? Though if I were him I'm stay blind because he ens up sxually harassing this one girl a lot - I mean, he practically rapes her with his cane and then gets a facefull of panties later. I don't know if this show will be consistently mixed between interesting and lame, but it's certainly better than the fist episode of Myself;Yourself so I guess I'll stick around for a bit.

the album Hope by Swallow the sun is one of the best metal albums I've heard in a while. The ony complaint I could possibly have is what will draw in most of it's fans - it is VERY grinding and dark. For instance, Doomed to Walk the Earth was basically too much for me, however other songs, such as the totle song, Hope, and Don't Fall Asleep (Horror Part 2) are awesome. -
No, it' just she doesn't know the name of the lead singer, Claudio Sanchez. I don't care about the shirt, she can go ahead and wear it if she likes the music or if she plain old likes the shirt. All I meant was that I'd be pissed because she got the singer's name wrong.
She siad Bon ****ing Jovi IT WAS A JOKE!!!!

The OtakuBoards Nifty Fifty: 07 Edition(Nominate or Die)
2010DigitalBoy replied to Justin's topic in General Discussion
What is it? Charles Why is it nifty? Earlier this year, there seemed to be a lot of people who wanted OB to change for the better, but their ideals were all different. In contrast to a member like Mitch who only made things worse and was horribly misguided, Charles found interesting, fun, and intelligent ways to make OB life more exciting. His collaborative RP with Shy which covered all of OB as use for it, while controversial at times, created great fun, and Charles was adamant in doing as many cool things as possible to breathe life into OB in 07. What is it? The Administrators Why is it nifty? Dagger and Desbreko are the two most helpful people around. And I'm totally not just picking them because they're the only other otaku around >.> Both of them have a wealth of knowledge and power which they only ever use for good, both are obviously intelligent and honestly perfect for their positions (which is probably why they have those positions). Their existence is principal enough to not vote for any mods, IMO :p What is it? The Panopticon Underground Why is it nifty? Aside from being the single all-time largest underground thread (I know, I've checked) it was the most fun I've probably ever had on Otakuboards. I also think it helped make underground threads more popular, since before it, it was rare for an underground thread to have more than a handful of posts, and with this one reigning at 608, it led to more and more lengthy undergrounds (just look in the backstage to see what I mean). The Panopticon would not have been nearly as exciting or dramatic without the underground. We laughed, we cried and we became family (literally, half the participants of that rp became close friends with me afterward). The underground even went on longer than the rp itself, going on to have it's very own award show. And what's more, there was even an audience as large for the underground as there was for the main thread! I think that anyone who participated in the underground will remember it fondly and rather well. For me, it dramatically revitalized my interest in OB, especially in RPs. What is it? 21st Century Digital Boy Why is it nifty? Honestly, can you imagine how boring it would be here without him? I will admit, DigitalBoy isn't necessary for a happy OB - the site has many great members, but things only get stimulated among them every so often. Digitalboy is a constantly moving discussion machine - even when he's posting at a minimum, he's posting ridiculously frequently, and on days where OB is otherwise dead, he's the one keeping the momentum going. There are a number of problems with digital boy, namely that he can be immature at times, and that his weird following of corruptive little pests are always getting on peoples' nerves (though that's not really his fault, but he gets blamed for it XD) but I think that he makes it up with his hardcore devotion to the boards and always willing to help make it more exciting and upbeat. One cannot deny his contributions to the site over the past year and the discussion conjured for better or worse. And besides, he totally would have been the winner of the OB Hall of Fame if the thread hadn't died XD. What is it? The Otaku Times Why is it nifty? It wasn't the first OB newspaper, it probably won't be the last, and whether it was the best is up to the members to decide. However, I think the OB Newspaper was one of the most well-produced and well-designed events of 07, and had it been more successful could have become an OB staple. -

Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
2010DigitalBoy replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central

Meh, that thread covers just about everything by now. I can move your post there if you want (since you went to the trouble to write all that, might not want it buried here), but it doesn't really matter. Up to you. It's been a while since I watched Esca in full, but I'm pretty much with you on most aspects of the ending, especially the romance aspects of it. It was particularly disappointing because it was still much better overall than so many other shows, ya know? I wanted so badly to love it to the end. ~Dagger~
Same here. In fact, since someone on another site said I was being 'too picky' (if you didn't know, I usually copypasta my posts to 2-3 other sies so I don't mind them getting buried, especially since I'm thinking of blogging this post) and that keeping the show on one track would have made it less 'epic' I replied: the whole trouble is that is was epic and then it became non-epic and then rushed to try to be epic again. For instance,
it looks like things are getting heated up when the catgirls are around and then when they die, but then it's like the entire Zaibah force just decides to dope around while the characters go about their business. It completely pulled back from teh action and at that point there wasn't even time left to build back into it. So they did a rush job and everything was left feeling thrown together, and like I said, I hated almost everyone at that point. I mean, I was a huge Allen fan right up until he started sucking, Hitomi was a fun character until you realize that she (and Van) never learn their damn lesson.
It might just be that the story stopped being something I cared about. Mind you, I have never been a fan of fantasy shows for the sole reason that they tend to get too serious/political and this one became sort of like that near the end. I mean I REALLY liked it for the first half, I was sure I'd be ranking it among my favorite fantasy shows. Because it was really FUN and the battle scenes were just so amazing. The use of the mechs ever-changing weaponry, the new battle environments and ways of fighting kept you on your toes, and DILANDAU, all the things that I liked about the show were taken away sand there awas nothing I liked enough to take it's place. -
