Sorry about that, I ended up editing it several times after typing, lol. I wasn't sure if yall'd seen it yet ^^;; Also, yall have done a good job of making me hate several charcters, lol. EDIT: A fighting chance, you say? ;) EDIT 2: All characters have been introduce except Eflair I believe. EDIT 3: And, thanks to our late player, anyone may now be killed, hehe

Ambellina Prise kept a relative calm about the situation she was in. Some of the members of the group were well-versed in survival, it seemed, and she had placed a distinct trust in a few of them while keeping a vague distrust in others. Those who were lagging in the back and those who were panicked in the front were obviously not ones to be followed. Gustaff especially reminded her of a royal guard that would have patrolled her palace. In her galaxy, the name Prise was known across all the planets, though Ambellina was unsurprised that people outside of not only her space, but her time as well would not recognize her. As long as she was careful and stayed with the stronger people of the group she would be fine, she thought. ?So, anyone have any ideas?? Gustaff asked, looking about the group. The stone corridor they stood in was less like a space-ship and more resembled and underground passageway. There were strings of lights like in mining tunnels lighting up the halls. For once, this looked like a maze. There were three tunnels, one branching left, one right, and one in the center. Each went on for a distance that couldn?t be fully seen, all turning at some point and ending the full vision of the pass. Immediately Alden stepped forward. Calmly and without speaking a word, he took to the right path and simply started walking. Several people?s eyes followed him wondering why he was going that way, but Alden didn?t speak a word. The people all began turning to each other and exchanging questioning glances and concern. ?Forget him. I would have him put to death for not awaiting my instruction!? Neheb fumed. The boy had a general air of imposition over the people. Ambellina was disgusted at his primitive way of rule. ?I will take this path,? the boy continued, angry. ?Any who wish to accompany me may follow.? He took to the path on the right and began striding off. Lara turned to where Alden was already making good distance down his path. ?That guy knows something,? she stated and immediately took to her heals in pursuit. ?Right then. I think I?ll head down this path then. After all, if I run into anything, I?ll just head back here and take another passage.? Davis said, turning to the rest of the group, then turning back toward the middle path. At that the group divided itself by each person?s own thoughts. Gustaff, Jennifer, Eflair, Vanya, and Rebecca began following Davis. Seeing this as the strong group, Ambellina followed as well. Meanwhile, Fredrick was watching the young pharaoh walk alone down the left passage. ?Damn it. He?s too small, I can?t let that boy go alone,? Fredrick said, and quickly ran to catch up with the Egyptian king. Samik looked over at Liam, Andrew, and Rebecca. ?I like that guy. I think I?ll tail along with them,? he said, and began following the group of two. Liam slowly took to that direction as well. Andrew looked to each of the groups in disdain. "I should hurry, lest this corridor corrode before me." he followed along the left path.

Many thanks for that post, indifference. i've been wanting to split these guys apart. I know I've already got 3 posts in, but I really want this one so I can decide the groups to split them into. So far I'm absolutely loving this game because in their own post, any single player is the god of this game. I can't wait to see what grim fates some of you have imagined up for these poor charcters, hehe. Also, wow, there are still one or two charcters who have yet to even be mentioned. Guess that's where I should pick up now, then? EDIT: And they are divided! Left Path: Neheb, Fredrick, Samik, Andrew, and Liam Middle Path: Davis, Gustaff, Jennifer, Eflair, Vanya, Ambellina, and Rebecca Right Path: Alden and Lara

Just to make things easier to navigate (if for no one else, then at least I'll benefit) Characters Currently Dead: Deloras Belanders Samik Specis Gudtaff Meldrachen Ambellina Prise Neheb I will continue to update this till all are introduced/more are dead. EDIT: To Indifference: done

As Neheb finished this sentence all eyes turned down the long narrow corridor that they stood in. "We should hurry,? Vanya urged. ?It?s probably another timed thing.? Immediately her and a few others took off barreling down the hall, the less panicked running along behind. In the back the weaker of the group stood out. Liam, Eflair, and Deloras struggled to maintain a part of the whole. It was their advantage, though, when the group ahead came to a screeching halt. ?AAAAAAA!!!!!!!!? A high pitch squeal erupted through the corridor. Ahead, right as she put her foot down a square of the floor fell from under Vanya. She screamed as she began to fall through the floor into space below. ?Hold on!? Someone yelled from behind. Vanya?s wide eyes gleamed with dread as she saw her fate before her, but just then her arm was caught. Gustaff was holding onto her arm and quickly yanked her upward and onto solid ground. Vanya sat breathing heavily as the mild shock came under control. She rose once more quickly as Gustaff turned toward the group. ?I suggest we tread carefully,? he bellowed. Everyone nodded in agreement as they carefully continued through the passage. They couldn?t easily test every square of the floor, especially since there were no defined tiles or anything. The front line of the group would carefully take a step and if one of their squares fell out they merely bounced back before they could fall. The ordeal was frightening at best but the method seemed to be succeeding. Within the troop, some softly spoke amongst themselves. Deloras looked over at the blue-haired young man next to her. In a quiet voice, almost like a whisper, she spoke to him. ?How is it that your skin took on that color?? Liam?s gaze was shifty. He seemed a bit reluctant to speak. ??uh?? a rasp caught his throat. Clearing it, he continued, his voice quiet and raspy like a sick child. ?I? died before?? he wasn?t sure how he would explain it. Deloras gave him a puzzled glance. ?How do you me--? She was cut of as the sound of the floor depressing came suddenly from below. Deloras? eyes grew large and she couldn?t even find the strength to scream within the surprise. Liam could do nothing but watch - Deloras shot straight down. After a moment, Eflair noticed that there was no one behind her and turned around quietly. She only saw the blue-skinned boy staring down into a hole in the ground. A terror possessed her as Liam turned toward her, his face full of shock. For a moment they stared at each other, but the group was fast advancing. With a cold chill running down their spines, the two returned to the group. I'm with Fyxe on this one. I'm a huge bread/pastry person. Anything made of bread is my lunch, lol. But pie, that doesn't really do it for me. I do like ice-cream pie, but I don't think that really counts. I guess it's just that warm fruit disgusts me.

Alden Courtney was the last person to emerge from his sleeper. He looked about the strange new environment, seeing plenty of other individuals standing about in a group aside from him. They all seemed to be sharing introductions. Some were calm and collected, some apprehensive, pensive, contemplative, or frightened. The data scanner worn across his eyes could detect their emotive outlines. He glanced about for a second before beginning his approach. Sonic receivers on his ears could here one red-haired man explaining that a woman?s voice had come form somewhere before. Just as Alden began to reach the group, there was a loud blip from above and all eyes came upon the large screen where ?The Maze? still was illuminated. ?Welcome, all of you,? the woman?s voice came through the speakers behind the screen. Alden?s emotive sensors could detect that some were slightly thrown off by the voice -- he wondered if it may have had a strange accent to them. ?This is the maze. You want to find the end, and you don?t want to die.? Instantly a wave of apprehension washed over the people. Now that death had become involved, it was natural that everyone had felt a chill down their spine. Alden?s response to the environment was one of total control. ?There is a door under this screen. Step through, and the maze begins. This room will fill with poisonous gas in exactly 25 seconds. Survive well.? Panic shot out from the crowd as the more frightened frantically dashed to the door and began pulling at it. ?Open, damn it!? Lara Servas roared as she put her foot on the wall and tugged on the door. ?Let me!? Gustaff immediately chimed in, yanking the metal door practically off it?s hinges. The more panicked contestants dashed through the open door all at once while the more serious, but still frightened, people calmly strode out. Alden was the last to leave, hearing the gas start to come through vents in the ceiling as he closed the massive door behind him easily. He calmly examined the new surroundings.
The rest was pretty much covered by Digital Boy (although I do think that Deliverance is better than you're giving it credit for, and it definately outshines Morningrise as far as albums in that style go).
Well, see. the only Morningrise song I've heard is Black Rose Immortal, which I thought was alright, though not great. You are the second person I've heard to dislike it beyond all other albums, though, despite it being the favorite of most reviewers. Mind you that I also have only listened to Delivance 10 times or so, maybe 4 paying attention. Also, I took your advice and started listening to Blackwater Park and I'm starting to warm up to it again. I think the main problem I had with it before is that I never needed something quite so black, heh. You aren't kidding - it really does consume EVERYTHING. Anywho... Gorillaz is a positively brilliant group fronted by the guy froom Blur and shrouded in lore. As I'm sure you're all aware, Gorillaz poses as an animated band of four with an entire backstory, though there is actually no definable lineup except for the frontman. The band's story is fun and interesting and I would suggest cchecking out the wiki... Gorillaz, the first album by this... amalgamation is just that - an amalgamation of all sorts of styles. The music is focused mostly on 2 things - the synth and the drums. In that way, it's sort of like good rap music, only with but a few rap songs and mostly pop or rock albums. Throw in tons of layering and some guitar on half the songs and you get the basis of the album. What makes their first release so great is that in 17 tracks, no 2 are too much the same. From dance-worthy pop-rock in 19/2000 or 5/4 (never noticed that before) to somber orchestral melodies such as Tomorrow Comes Today, creative hip-hop romps with Clint Eastwood and Rock the House, straight-up punk in, well, Punk, trippy-freak in New Genius (Brother) or ... whatever that one annoying song was called. Some synth-soaked techno in Dracula and Starshine, and of course, the pure opus-ness of Double Bass and Sound check (Gravity) as well as some unmentioned songs. Demon Dayz, as 2D once said in an interview, "is like someone took the first album and colored in it." now, this album features less genre flip-flopping, but still has plenty of variety. This album creates heavily-layered masterpieces by placing tons and tons of things into a track, a lot of which you may not even pick out on the first listen. ulike that freaking new mars volta album, though, it all melds together perfectly, creating some of the best music you can conceive. On this album the rap stuff is mixed in with the synth-rock and fuses beautifully. Speaking of beautiful, every one of the first 10 tracks fits that description perfectly and in fact, this could have been a perfect album if cut off right there. There are, in fact 5 other songs on there, all of which are... different. White Light is a fast-paced dance-floor techno beat white Dare is a high-school-dance in a nutshell (even though I'm 90% sure it's about masturbation, hehe.) Then there's Fire Coming Out of A Monkey's Head, a sort of Devil Went Down To Georgia style story-telling piece, and then the rounding off with 2 part song Demon Days and Don't Get Lost In Heaven, either of which is nice and calming. Gorillaz is, more than likey, the biggest departure from my style, but I was really into them when I was first getting into music, so genre wasn't an issue back then. i'm glad for this, too, because these are two increadible albums that you miss out on if you judge at first glance. Samik Specis? head hurt as he suddenly awoke from his sleeper and stepped out onto the metal floor of a strange room. The place was dark, but there were small lights and large screen on an above wall with the words ?The Maze? upon it. Samik yawned and turned towards some other people who were standing in the room. They all seemed to speak his language, though none of them looked like his people. All were continually glancing quizzically toward the screen. Samik began to worry what was going on. ?Um? hello there!? he said, cheerily, as he approached the others. All of them seemed to be older than him, and had serious faces about them. ?I?m going to bet we?re all generally confused here, eh?? ?You?d be right,? replied a large burly man. ?Name?s Gustaff, Gustaff Maldrachen. You don?t know what the hell?s going on either, then?? ?Not a clue,? Samik chimed with a faint laugh, ?Oh, right, and my name?s Samik Specis, at your service.? As he said this, he extended his hand to the man and shook, then turning to each of the others. ?Fredrick Shavask. Good meeting,? said a smaller, but still tough-looking man. ?Jennifer,? was the name of the next strange-looking woman. Beyond this introduction was a bit of an awkward silence. The sound of a pressure release then shot through the air, followed quickly by two more. The next three to awaken were a blue-skinned, feminine-looking young man, a serious-looking man with mid-length orange hair, wearing a long jacket, and a beautiful young woman with short purple hair. The serious-looking man assessed his surroundings calmly, while the purple-haired girl looked flustered. ?U-um? what? W-where am I?!? She asked, uneasily. ?None of us know, either,? Gustaff replied. Samik slid his hands into his pockets and leaned against the wall. He could tell this would quickly become complicated. His eyes began to wander about the sleepers, counting them. The young man with the blue skin was very confused-looking. He looked over at the group of people with uncertainty. He saw that the purple-haired girl was approaching them, asking questions that none seemed to have the answers for. The other man joined them as well, introducing himself among the group. Samik watched the boy as he cautiously approached the group and just sort of stood on the outskirts of it, not saying anything. The sound of pressure releasing erupted once more as the rest of the sleepers started to open as well. Samik wished he had a cigarette.

Piro = Fred Gallagher Largo = Rodney Caston Seraphim = Sarah Gallagher just to clear that up. Anyway, I am a HUGE Megatokyo fan. I've followed the series for years, i buy the graphic novels, and I have all my little theories about what's going on. Megatokyo is an amazing story and one built of immense suspense. I spend most of my times hanging out in the Megatokyo forums, either discussing the story or talking about anime (some big-time otaku over there). Piro is a character I can identify with, and the story sort of resonates with me. Also, Fred's artwork has gotten so great over the years it's really amazing to see.

Oi, episode 3 time. Alright, as of halfway through, this episode seems to be focused mostly on the cutesy stuff, purifying itself as definite shoujo, though so far i'm just loving it. no, it's not real progress, but it's like watching Chobits - you can't help but love the cutesy stuff. I really like Matsuri, especially after their conversation ofver the cup-ramen. I love how she can insult you and then get onto a new subject without even a change of expression - she's hilarious. Yorito has only further cliche-fied himself, but it's all goo dif things are good. It almost made me mad seeing the badguys literally doing nothing instead of plotting something -- did the writers just not think of anything in time? Anywho, the scene with Mana barging in was nothing special, but man, you know people are distracted when
they forget to close the freaking front door.
Also, the
"i'll Kill Him!"
thing was plain awesome. I loled. the rest of the episode wasn't much different from the first half -- cutesy moments, characters introduced to each other... like Dagger said, no real progress, but it's not like they need it that bad. After all, this isn't a dating sim and it won't have a bunch of recap episodes - it's got more free time than certain other shows, lol. I do think, though, if it hasn't picked up by episode 5 there will be a problem, heh.
Also, yeah, Mana TOTALLY is in love with Yorito
. I wonder how this will work...
If you ever have a problem with something happening in a thread, you are welcome to PM the Moderator (or Category Moderator) for that area rather than reprimanding someone within the thread. It's pretty easy stuff! Also it didn't become an issue until you made it one. It's worth pointing that out, lol. Let's try not to take things so seriously in future! :catgirl: And where are my man-slaves? I see no volunteers. >_>;; Edit: And please, don't anyone talk about "uprisings"...they are so lame, lol. Every so-called uprising on OtakuBoards has become a laughable historical oddity. :p
Don't worry, I have no interest whatsoever in an Otakuboards uprising. I'd like as much as possible to live within the system, I just have a bad grasp of the boundaries of said system. Also, anyone who needs a man-slave, I would be more than happy to fill the position for any of you, especially you James.
Jeez, don't you Americans study ghost hunting at school?
The day it joins the curriculum(sp?) will be a beautiful and momentous occasion indeed.
Yes Claudio is god I myself have quotes from my favorite songs off of Good Apollo I'm a Burning Star Part 1: Fear Through the Eyes of a Madman. I love them and I'm waiting for the new cd to see how the new bandmates do. I also like some of the songs from Claudio's side project. Did you know that every Coheed and Cambria song tells a story that is being put into comic form by Claudio it will soon be out the comic that is made by Evil Ink Comics the name of the Comic I forget.
i believe you mean 'from fear through the eyes of madness' and yes, I am well-versed in the lore behind the series. For those of you who don't know, though, this is as good a place as anywhere to explain. The Coheed and Cambria albums are a continuing concept album written by Claudio Sanchez and is a totally epic sci-fi story. The scale is insanely grand, with the entire solar system coming into play in the storyline. I wouldn't want to spoil any of the awesome plot, famous for leaving so much open to interpretation (Claudio's lyrics are a bastard.) now, the story of these albums has always ben meant to have comic form. The first Coheed album, The Second Stage Turbine Blade, was to have monthly voluminal releases, but after only 2 comics, the artist went on hiatus, abandoning the project. Years later, the band's third album, Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness, was released alongside a 120 page graphic novel following the story. The artwork in the GN is simply outstanding (I own it and absolutely love it), though it can be kind of confusing at times. Because of restraints in page count do to Claudio's lack of cash to push the project, a lot of the story ws apparently left out. After the album dropped, though, Coheed found massive success and they now have enough money to 'do whatever they want'. Despite Christopher Shy's amazing work on the previous graphic novel, Claudio turned to a new artist and decided to do the entire series in order from the beginning. the first of these comics will drop in the coming months. For more info, I'd suggest the rather thorough Wiki.

Both of ye long-named dudes, I am in agreement with both of you. Rach (do you mind if I call you that?), I can see what you mean by that, and I can see how it would be imposing. I think what this comes down to, though, is the difference betwen you and me. Your perfectly fine being a lone fan of something -- I'm not. As a person whos hobbies make up most of my life, it is important to me what others think, and I am filed with joy when they think what I think. Fasterisk, I just overall agree with your post.
Plus maybe we should give DB a personanl forum so he can explain some of teh things he says. :S[/B']
I get the feeling a large number of people just decided to kill you and string your organs about... Anywho, yes, i realise I have no choice in the matter, and that's why I've been at least trying to downplay my 'backseat modding' even though it appears I can get away with absolutely nothing. Yall seriously need to specify what exactly qualifies as 'backseat modding' and as for saying that it's okay to have a sense of ownership, please don't say that, because it's you who's confusing me this time. I've tried more subtle ways of saying things, I've tried the 'nip it in the bud' technique, hell, I know I've come up with quite a few ways to help my thread without coming across as backseat modding, but you guys shoot me down at every turn. Just tell me specifically what I can do and nothing more, kay? I personally canot even remotely se what the big deal is with the (non)issue anyway. EDIT: @ Dagger: I would be more than happy to serve you, master!
2) You are over-dramatizing the goings-on of a forum to ridiculous proportions. I hope that you are joking instead of trying to stir passion or something.
5) That's why we have a private messaging system to alert said staff
I'm not unaware of how the board works, I juust disapprove of it.
I think that in the next version of OtakuBoards there should be a feature where the software automatically bans posers aka anyone who is pretentious enough to do backseat modding.
yes, let us make it so the people are helpless to watch their threads go down in flames as it is rampaged and leave them wit nothing to do to express their disdain toward the action of said person. Avenged Sevenfold is alright -- I love City of Evil, but their old stuff is all meh. The music isn't terrible, but nothing special, and his screaming voice is UGLY. As far as hardocre goes, Unearth is the only band I've found myself able to stomach. M. Shadows lyrics are pretty good, they've inspired some of my favorite of my drawings. Next would be... Opeth. now, Opeth is a bit of a mixed bag for me. You see, Opeth is what we call Progresive Death Metal. What that means is, the sound commonly associated with such bands as Tool and Dream Theater, but turned WAY dark and heavy. Now, Opeth is all-around good, and their style is very flip-floppy. Their songs switch beteen extremely heavy and extremely heavy often several times in the same song. Their songs put a lot of focus on intense riffs and the dark atmosphere surrounding their sound. Now, this band has released 8 albums (the 9th to see release this summer). Their first two, Orchid and Morningrise have a more garage-like sound (just overall bad production really) and we immediately see their style fleshed out with switches between death, black metal, and calm parts. Their early stuff is considered their best by some, though from the songs I've listened to, there's nothing so spectacular that it's worth hunting them down. Their third album, My Arms Your Hearse is considered the misfit among their albums by many as it features shorter, less atmospheric tracks. The next one, Still Life, is more turned towards the atmospheric stuff again, and considered great by many fans. Now, the albums I own all come next. First, Blackwater Park. now, I cannot deny that Blackwater Park is technically brilliant. It's got all the right riffs in the right places, good quality, and perfect timing in most places. The only major complaint is that there are several parts where something is dragged out excessively, especially in one song where a single riff is played for well over a minute with no additions. Personally, this album isn't really my style, and so I haven't listened to it too much, but I still know it is good. Damnation is easily the oddball among Opeth's albums. First of all, the album features 100% calm, quiet songs that reflect 70s era progressive rock. Unlike other albums, it's comparatively short with only 8 tracks, none of which are overly long (really,m this could have been an EP IMO). Despite all the differences, this is one of Opeth's true masterpieces. The songs are great, some catchy, and technically brilliant as well as beautiful. The first three tracks, Windowpanes, In My Time Of Need, and Death Whispered A Lullaby are all extremely awesome songs, while the rest are still pretty good. The biggest problem is that certain songs take too long to pick up or fade out. Deliverance, which was Damnation's sister album, is ironically probably Opeth's heviest album, featuring very few moments of peace within the 5-song onslaught. All the tracks (save the 2 minute inteerlude For Absent Friends) are absurdly long and full of black. Once again, this album is very technically proficient, but it's not really my style. Overall, it is commonly considered the least wotrhy of Opeth's albums in this style, but I'm not one who should give opinion on this release. Ghost Reveries, the band's most recent album, is easily their greatest in my eyes. Between the 8 tracks it accomplishes almost everything right. The forst song, Ghost of Perdition, at 10 minutes is a breath of almost total perfection. It's followed up instantly by 2 more great songs, Baying of the hounds and Beneath the Mire, then a Damnation style track Atonement. Harlequin Forest is simply a masterpiece as well as the calmest oppeth track ever, Hours of Wealth. The final and bonus tracks are both brilliant as well, which leaves us with only one 10 minute track, the album's single, The Grand Conjuration. This song... well, it isn't horrible, but it's essentially no more than mediocre. Were it not for this one dragging down the whole, it would be a perfect album.

I actually look forward to this job opportunity. After all 'Desbreko's man-slave' is probably a higher rank than whatever I am right now ;)
I'm not telling you to stop, I'm just saying don't be too upset if someone doesn't want to further their interest in anime. I said "let it go" in my previous post just as a saying, I didn't mean to imply that you imposed your disapproval or anything. Yeah, I can see why you become disappointed, but don't fret or anything. You don't own mediums just because you were the first at your school to involve yourself with it, nor does anyone else.
no, I'm not fretting. Disappointment, to me, just means I'm sort of shaking my head and turning around. I don't know if it's the best word to use, I should look it up and make sure, but what I meant to inply with 'disappointing' is simply like... DB: meh, oh well, you're loss sort of thing. It's like seeing a smart person fail a class -- you know they can do better, but they fail anyway cuz they don't care. It's disappointing, but it's not your problem. In any case, I think we've driven offtopic.
Well, you can just let it go. Like you said, being an anime fan wasn't exactly a positive thing in the eyes of a lot of people in the past, but now you do have friends that wanted to watch some more anime that wasn't offered through US television. Most likely the people who are content to stick with one or two series are what they are: content.
What are you saying here? That attempting to enrich others lives with the persuit of higher knowlege is something that should not be done? i mean, sure I get disappointed sometimes, but that's all on me. It's not like im imposing my disappointment on them. And those who do persue more anime often end up gaining from it. I have had many friends who became anime fans because of me, as well as those who now listen to my music and play my games. If no one did, i'd be very lonely, so it's worth the occasional disappointment to try and teach others about anime. The pros outweigh the cons.
To you, casual fans may be a disappointment. But when you say that to other people, it comes off as elitist even if you aren't. Just a word of advice.
Sorry! It's hard to not sound elitist, and it's mostly because I take anime very seriously. The time I'm not watching anime, I'm talking about it on message boards and getting way into it. I've been researching anime for years -- it's a major part of my life. When I hear about someone who likes anime, I get my hopes up. It's like 'hey! You like anime? I like anime!' and it's like a major 'yes!' moment, until I end up talking about freaking Naruto! I mean,I've loved anime for a long time, and I used to be ridiculed for it. It used to be that being an anime fan was a bad thing, something that worked against me. Now most of the people I hang out around are calling themselves anime fans as well; but instead of a bunch of people who knew the hardship of years of ridicule who've been researching anime for all this time, becoming entrenched in it, obsessing over it, and becoming well versed in it; all that's there is a bunch of people who saw Naruto on Cartoon Network one day and started buying T-shirts! The elitism must be in my very blood, because I have tried as hard as I can to be accepting of fledling otaku and try to teach them what I know, and those who have joined me in my persuit I hold close as good friends; the people who have tought me I hold in high regards as well. those who refuse to learn -- those are the people who disappoint me. And it's not just with anime -- I want people to learn about all kinds of things. I've burned so many CDs to give to people, and I've made some people fans of bands they didn't know about (just 2 days ago I converted someone to Coheed and Cambria, lol). Call me an elitist is you want; call me the fraking jehova's witness of anime if oyu want to; all I want is for peole to learn.
2007DigitalBoy, it sounds to me that your idea of a 'disappointing' anime fan is someone who doesn't have the same taste in shows that you do. That mock conversation you provided just made you sound like a stuck up elitist since the other person wasn't watching stuff that isn't on TV or so called great shows like Neon Genesis Evangelion. [which by the way I did not like] And frankly that's just silly. You and me both. I've only been into watching anime within the last year and honestly, it cracks me up to hear the 'you aren't a fan if you haven't watched this show' spiel. And here I thought being an anime fan meant you enjoyed some of the Japanese animation shows, not that you had to watch certain ones. lol
Don't get me wrong, I was just using Eva as an example. I wouldn't consider myself an elitist (maybe I'm worng?) But I watch a LOT of shoes. I'm not the type to not give someone a chance -- I loan out my DVDs and give people reccommendations, send them to websites, and try to get them to watch more. It's not that I want them particularly to watch a certain show I like, I just want them to understand that there are shows out there beside Naruto and Fullmetal Alchemist. It really becomes disappointing, though, when they don't go look for more.

Disappointing, because they haven't seen more. It's best to explain it with a dialogue... DB: *sees girl in Naruto shirt* *approaches her* DB: Oi, you watch anime? Pretty Girl: Oh, yeah! Your an anime fan? DB: Yep! What kind of shows you like? Pretty Girl: Well, as you can see, I love naruto, and I'm a petty big fan of Fullmetal Alchemist... DB: Yeah, thos are pretty cool, though I mostly watch, like, stuff that's not on TV Pretty Girl: Yeah... *turns away to friends* DB: *disappointed* ROUND TWO: DB: *sees kid in Japanese class drawing Final Fantasy character* DB: Oi, that's pretty good there. Random guy: thanks! You like final fantasy? DB: Funny thing, I own almost all of them, but I haven't beaten a single one >_< *conversation continues, almost always covering Tales of Symphonia and porn in the process; don't ask* DB: *at this point is well aware that person watches anime* so, what shows do you like? Random Guy: Well, I mostly like action shows, like Samurai Shamploo, Cowboy Beebop, you know, Naruto and stuff, mostly the stuff on Adult Swim DB: Really? Ever seen Neon Genesis Evangelion? Random Guy: I think I saw an episode when it was on AS it seemed weird DB: Ah, well, you should watch it Random Guy: yeah.. *never does* DB: *disappointed* see what I mean?
I agree, somewhat. I'm one of those people that have seen about 10-15 shows (maybe 10-20), and is undereducated about a great deal of anime stuff. (that, and because I'm picky with my animes :)) Does that make me an anime fan? I'd like to think so, but I'd consider myself just a casual fan because I don't dwell on it too much. I agree on having to put up with "Narutards" as you put it, but in my case, anime fans in general. Fans that becomes obsessed with shows, and characters to the point to where they become real defensive when you mention one itty bitty negative comment about something or some character(s) they like. And then we have those fans that has to say some fanboyish comment. "....... ROXORS" or "...... PWNS". I've never been to a convention, so obviously, most of my anime experience comes from the internet, so, and one has to wonder if an anime online community is that bad, are they much worse offline.
i will tell you right now, they are WAY worse offline, because that is where they have power. You see, on any site that takes itself seriously (i.e. OB or Megatokyo, the two places I hang out), these people are perpetual 'noobs'. No matter what, a narutard is a n00b until he becomes educated. Now, don't get me wrong, there are FAR more sites that are brimming with tose people than those that aren't (i.e. gaia and the like), but that's why the internet is magical. You don't have to go there! Meanwhile, in the outside world, those people are everywhere and you can't do anything about it!
