I'm surprised that with your affinity for complex, involved, progressive music such as Agalloch and Opeth you'd dismiss classical music. Sure, plenty of people can play violin, but that's not the point. It's the compositions themselves. Classic masterpieces are some of the most brilliant, epic pieces ever concieved. Maybe you just haven't heard the right classical. Check out Paganini and Vivaldi - metal music ows every bit as much to those two composers as it does to Sabbath, Maiden, and Priest.
Meh, I'm not one to worry about the origins of a genre. I don't like Sabbath or Priest at all, and Maiden just can't compare to the bands who've expanded on their sound (really, they have no excuse for not improving, since they're still releasing albums.) And anywho, classical may be good, it's just not my style ;P

Episode 2 was pretty good, and I'm still enjoying this show, though it could still go anywhere in the 13 episodes remaining. Some people have complained that Yorito isn't a good character, being that he has a totally faceless personality, and I kinda agree - he's just a guy obsessed with the sky with a lot of determination so far. Hopefully there will be some act of his in a further episode that will make him cool (turn into a crow, maybe? XD) Matsuri I enjoy so far. She is a little cliche in that she's the almost-impossibe-to-bother personality, and she's a little ignorant (kicking the microwave and such) but still very likeable. I'm curious to know how one who's seen the sorrows of
centuries
will fit into a modern-day cutesy romance. Seems to me like they'd either be A. Scared of love or B. desperate for it, but shes yet to show signs of either. At first I thought there'd be a bit of competition betweem Mana and matsuri over Yorito's heart, but Mana seems like more of the older sister type. Meanwhile Yorito's actual sister has yet to come into her own, but I'm sure she will. Sword guys cool as well, and i'm sure we're all anxiously awaiting an explanation of box-loli >_<

Anime Your 5 Absolute Favorite Anime
2010DigitalBoy replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
1. Sailor Moon 2. Chobits 3. Pokemon 4. Final Fantasy 5. .Hack//Sign
I hate you so very much. Between your title and this post I could incinerate you. Anyway, partly in the name of bringing re-life to my thread that has started to degrade into hapless posts, I shall now unload some massive paragraphs. Right now, this is what my top 10 looks like: 1. Neon Genesis Evangelion 2. the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya 3. Kanon 2006 4. FLCL 5. Serial Experiments Lain 6. Kino's Journey 7. Mushishi 8. Boogiepop Phantom 9. Air 10. Paranoia Agent It occurs to me that I haven't talked about a few of these here yet. 3. Kanon 2006 - This how made me feel more emotions than any other show on the planet. It is the only show to ever make me cry over the characters. Mind you, I've been sad over characters, but there were actually a lot of times that Kanon brought to to the brink of tears (and 2 parts where I actually shed a few.) Kanon takes anime archetypes and works wonders on them. Despite their cliche, I ell in love with these characters and wanted to watch them till the end, and that's the drive that kept me going to the end. The series is amazing all the way through and can touch even the coldest of hearts. I will say this - you have no soul if this series doesn't make you sad at some point. Also, Yuuichi is an all-around great protagonist. If we had more guys like him around, the world would kick ***. 7. Mushishi - Admittedly, I've only seen 14 of the 26 episodes of this anime (and read volume one of the manga) but it remains deserving. Mushishi is a collection of strange but always intriguing tales revolving around the tiny creatures known as Mushi - the evolutionary beginnings that exist everywhere. Mushi do all kinds of strange things to people and that's why it's up to Mushishi such as Ginko to keep balance in the world. Ginko is a cool character in that he's your average nice guy but with all sorts of crazy abilities and knowlege. Ginko isn't the best part of the show, though, as the mushi obviously are. The strange and often frightful tales of the mushi are always a joy to learn and things happen very fast in this anime, so a story doesn't ever bore you. There are some moments that really make you go 'OMG!!' and that's always a good thing. 8. Boogiepop Phantom - Before I begin, I should let you know that the origional novel, Boogiepop and Others, is my favorite piece of media ever created. I would argue the books perfection to my own grave, and it has inspried everything I do in some way. The anime in no way lives up to the books absurd greatness, but it's still a damn fine program to be sure. The biggest thing about Boogiepop Phantom is the dark atmosphere. The whole time it seems to be closing in on you, and you're always shrouded in the night. There are some really, really messed up things that go on in this show, all of which wer amazing.
When the kid blew up the cat, I had to pause the show just to give me time to freak out properly.
Streaming this all night while in the dark is downright creepy. I loved seeing some of my favorite characters from the novel appear in the anime, and all around it's just a great watch that will give you nightmares for sure. 9. Air - Like Kanon, Air is win for being a heavy-hitting anime with characters you fall in love with. Only Air is ar more extreme than Kanon, only dragged down by it's short run time (13 episodes and 2 are recaps?!). Air has almost no realism to it as well, which really makes you feel like just about anything can happen, and in that light it keeps a layer of suspense at all times. I can't really say much about Air without giving anything away, but I will say this -- it is terribly sad right to the last minute. 10. Paranoia Agent - Like Boogiepop, PA is a dark, psychological series, only this one is on a larger scale and isn't closed-in like Boogiepop. PA brings to life the darker parts of the human mind and society's evils. This series has great suspense and some really cool, trippy stuff. By the end, everything gets so wild you can't help but wonder what will happen and it does not disappoint. -
I think the biggest problem with Odal for me is that I can almost never get the really cool deep bass thing happening on most of my speaker systems, and the sound replacing it is nothing special... As for I Am The Wooden Doors, I do think it's alright, but the guitars just bother me. anywho, I didn't feel like typing these again do here's some from the previous threads.
Pearls & Brass - This band isn't really like any of the other bands I lesten to, nor any other band I've heard personally. They're about as underground as underground gets since I can't find a single freaking person who listens to them, but they are definetally awesome. Their LP The Indian Tower is a masterpiece in a can (or rather, a disk). From the energetic grooves of songs like No Stone and The Mirror to the dragged-out-holy-crap-this-is-some-great-stuff riffage of Beneath the Earth, this disk is totally wicked sweet-awesome and contains ultimate riff-bustin. The best part, though, is the 2 acoustic tracks which are easily the coolest acoustic songs ever, Away The Mirrors being one of my alltime favorite tracks. I don't know what draws me to a stoner-rock, raw, blues-injected bass-guitar-drum jammer group, but I can't get enough.
And slightly edited
Tool is one of the first bands I ever seriously listened to. Each of their CDs has a unique and equally amazing sound, and, other than 10,000 Days, all are really amazing (10,000 Days still being cool but not like the others). Unfortuanetally, I still haven't managed to get my hands on the DVD yet. Opiate - Opiate was Tool's first recording, an EP. It has a very raw, dark sound to it. The songs are all blatant attacks on the wrongs of society and are also short in comparison to future Tool songs. This CD keeps the deep, swamplike sound of their later works, but with a more thrashing attitude. Undertow - Undertow sounds a lot like Opiate, but much deeper. When I listen to this CD then by the sixth song I usually feel like I'm miles underground and buried in sludge. Their lyrics are highly satyrical regarding society, but all have a very deep, almost wounding nature. Like... "God damn. That's messed up." The last song, Disgustipated, features some of the coolest music I've ever heard used with crazy sounds like sheep and chickens. After 7 minutes it literally goes into 8 minutes of the sound of crickets chirping before a demented short story closing off the album. AEnima - This CD introduced me to Tool and is probably the most interesting CD I've ever heard. It opens with Stinkfist which almost slashes the swampiness of the previous album to shreds and gives a calm and almost depressed feeling. Several songs have the more swampy feel of Undertow such as Jimmy and Eulogy. The 9 minute song Pushit mixes the deepness with an almost comatose instrumental throughout the center of the work. H. and Forty Six & 2 have a more spiritual feel as if someone were questing their conscience for something. Then theres the two angry thrashier songs AEnima and Hooker With A Penis which both are more basic hard rock songs which are ripe with anger. After listening to the sound of wind and static for four minutes through (-)Ions you get to the trip-show that is Third Eye; a thirteen minute epic which goes through a plethora of tempo madness. Cutting in between songs are all sorts of strange musical interludes such as one German song which sounds like a dictator giving a speech but is actually a recipe for meatballs and a very angry man leaving a nasty message on someones machine. Lateralus - This is probably my favorite of all the Tool CDs. Interestingly, aside from the first song, The Grudge, the muddy-swamp sound is all but gone. The songs remain mildly creepy, but take on more of a total prog-rock sound. Firstly, the music is amazing and blows me away that a guitar, bass, and drum could be played so well. Besides the first 2 tracks, the lyrics for all the songs on this CD come from a more philosophical and existential standpoint. There aren't any breaks this time around - this CD is a one way trip into your mind. Lateralus is also one of my favorite songs of all time. 10,000 Days - Take everything you expect and throw it out the window. This CD is utterly disappointing. The CD is mostly centered around two epics, each of which consists of a shorter opening song and an 11 minute second part. The first is 10,000 Days, which simultaneously critisizes empty-hearted Christians and acts as an ode to Maynard's dead mother. This song takes on the feel of a sad rainy day and leads into a great scene of anger over an amazing bass line. The second epic Rosetta Stoned, tells the story of a man wking up in a hospital after being abducted by aliens in Area 51. He was the chosen one, but he cant remember the message he was to give. RS has the same feel as Third Eye, where you feel as if you're on a journey through the music, but unlike much of the older trippy Tool songs, it features constant music instead of minor sounds. There are two songs on there, Intension and Viginty Tres, which are practically worthless, but between them is the crown jewel of the disk, Right In Two, about angels looking down on the human race. Other than that are 3 'alright' songs, all which have appeared on the radio at some point.

been eating up them Mogwai tracks. May just make my 'to-buy' list. Anywho, Headbangers Ball just ended, and so I thought it necessary to pull some of the savory tracks to light. Firstly, Sanctity of Brothers by Unearth. The riff in this song is absolutely killer, and I'm a sucker for great riffs. Giving that most of what I've heard from them is pretty good, I may just pick up III - In The Eyes of Fire. Cry of the Black Birds by Amon Amarth is quite a sweet track. I found myself headbaging the whole way through - a good sign. I've had mostly mixed feelings about this band, but I may purchase With Oden On Our Side cuz I've liked a bit of it, and Jakehammaren reccommends it so very highly. Also, the new Otep song Ghost flowers is pretty cool. For once we actually see the rest of the band (not that I'm complaining about seeing Otep.... she be hawt)

Well, I haven;t really been exploring into anything new recently. Just been playing my old stuff like crazy, namely the CDs I haven't listened to as much lately. The reason for this being that I don't get paid for a while, so I don't want to make myself want to buy all these CDs. Just over the past hour or so I've been streaming Mogwai tracks, and they seem to be a really cool post-rock band. I like that most of what I've heard isn't overly quiet, but just generally cool. My favorite song so far has been Travel is Dangerous. Good stuff, there. Nifty video too.

Bokurano is a new anime based on a manga from the creator of Shadow Star. The writer is known for particularly dark stories with lots of death, and Bokurano is apparently no exception. It is the story of fifteen children who have been grouped together in some sort of binding program. Fourteen are 7th graders, whole one is the 4th-grade little sister of one of the others. These kids have known each other for a long time apparently, though some of them don't get along to well and others are particularly close.
The story begins with the group on the beach just casually hanging around, generally being bored and doing whatever. There is a little bit of tension going on in one area while others are just sitting around chatting. Being that all are generally bored, they decide to explore a cave in the hillside. Whe nthey get deep inside they find themselves in a room at the back of the cave. Inside there are multiple tabletops where a bunch of computers ae set up. In a matter of moments an older man comes in from another passage, askng how the kids found this place. He then goes on to explain how he is making a game down here. In his game, a giant robot with many plates of armor is to protect the earth from 15 robotic alien invaders. Being that he has need of beta testers, he asks the kids if they'd like to play. The kids aren't slow to oblige, and he asks each of them to place their hand on a podium and give thier name. Each does so, except the little girl whose brother (who hates her) won't consent to her playing. As soon as the last kid signs up, they all black out and wake up on the beach in the middle of the night. As they are walking back to the huge place they are staying, they suddenly notice that an enormous (500 meters apparently) mech is standing down at the shore. Out in the bay, another mech begins materialising, and it becomes obvious that the game has begun. Suddenly the kids appear in the cockpit where the old man is waiting. He explains to them how the robot is controlled by will and displays how battles will be fought by kiling the other giant robot. Afterward, the kids appear once again on the ground and can only gawk as the mechs dissipate into the air.
My review of the first episode: First impression: As was said by many, the opening theme, Uninstall was excellent, though at the end when she keeps saying 'uninstall' i sounds suspiciously like 'Rahxephon' O_o. Anyway, I'm not so sure what I think of the charachter designs. In many ways it reminds me of Infinite Ryvius, only the kids are uglier (the butch girl's hair is the ugliest mess I've ever seen.) The beach scene was a good way of introducing the characters -- I only hope they'll have time to flesh them all out (assuming 75% of them arent dead in 10 episodes or something.) Some of them seem like little bastards which I'm sure will add a layer of drama to the story. The whole thing with the guy in the cave was pretty cool, too. I definetally like the way the group of kids work. They seem realistic as 7th graders (if just a bit more agreeable). *paused a minute* when it shows the mech appear from nowhere -- first reaction -- "It's freakin huge!" ... brilliant XD The first mech battle was... cheesy. I mean, it's like the kids just suddenly see a mech appear, end up inside it, get a toturial, appear on the ground, episode over. We didn't really learn too much, which makes me assume that this will be quite a long anime. I think the only problem have with this anime is that there wasn't much movement. Even when inside the mech, the kids never really left the area they were in. Once again, I'm sure this won't last very long, and I'll probably check out episode 2 just to find out where this anime is going to go.
Since you basically sumarized the first episode, I'm going to hide it in spoilers. -r2
Okay... here's my trouble. The little blue blocks next to each forum title are meant to tell you that there are unread posts in that forum. Well, no matter what computer I've used OB on forever I've had this problem, and I must know why. You see, those blue things are almost impossible to turn gray. Even though all of the threads inside have gone from bold print to regular, it's still blue. Even though I've clicked on my last post in the first 3 threads a few times, it's still blue. Even though i've reloaded the page several times, it's blue. Even though I've left the site or internet explorer and come back ITS STILL BLUE!!! Eventually, some immense combination of all these actions will make it no longer blue, but it's way to much of a pain in the ***, especially if someone posts while I'm doing it and re-blues it. My question is - what the hell's wrong with the stupid blue thing?!
If you do... please at least keep him away from me. J/K Oh I certainly agree with that. I am always in favor of ignoring those who try to pick a fight with me, and fights cannot be onesided. If I refuse to fight with you, then you are just B***hing and causeing a scene for nothing and YOU will look stupid... not me.
Ah, I don't think you understood me correctly. I meant that if someone l=insults your shirt, any resulting arguement is your fault. As in, you in the shirt. After all, the only thing stupider than being offended by a shirt is reacting to someone's being offended. That only shows that you really did mean to be offensive, and that means you started the arguement. When a scene is initiated, all of its participants are equally stupid.

Once upon a time, before a red, yellow, and white hole were on every TV and controller was as commonly associated with your PS2 as it was with your cable box, there was a form of game that many found entertaining known simply as a 'board game'. Most likely because most of them used a game board as their basis. From the classics like Monopoly (now in 40,000 versions) and Life, to the slightly less popular ones like Sorry and Trouble, down to the closest you'll get to playing a turn-based strategy RPG, Risk. Even though their digital counterparts have put a stranglehold on our entertainment, everyone has memories of their family sitting all together enjoying (and pretending to be bored of) a game of this kind. So, what board games can you stomach? Are there any you actually like? Personally, I have a very deep-seated hatred for most of these games... Monopoly... Life... but at the same time, I can always remember the warmth of sitting around a Clue board and everyone's simultaneous 'AGG!' as someone guesses the Confidential cards, or a game of Sorry with everyone going 'no! no!' and getting into it as you reel in your last little blue friend. No one can say that they've never had fun with a board game, so let's hear your stories.

Ah, the evil t-shirt conspiracy. I've always loved the t-shirt that the fat guy in Shaun of the Dead wears that has the little forest and say 'I got WOOD'. Good stuff, there. Personally, I've not had to deal with this problem really, as almost all my shirts are band shirts, and ones that most people haven't heard of anyway. I do have a 'how to become a ninja' shirt teaching you to make a ninja hood out of a t-shirt and naturally everyone accuses me of having a terrorist on my shirt. Maybe I do have a terrorist on my shirt. What does that have to do with you? I don't mind it, though. Like everything else, it's a product of lifestyle I've learned to live with. A situation where everyone is at fault. What grinds my gears is when people take things to seriously. When someone uses something like a t-shirt to get all-up in someone's business just for the sake of being pissy. But hey, if you react in the wrong way, it's only your fault that argument starts.

Sola (the seemingly official translation from Sora, meaning sky), is a new anime that has just started running in Japan. As far as episode one goes, it so far resembles the anime usually based on bishoujo games (such as Kanon or Air) but actually isn't, and is simply based on a manga. The story revolves around Yorito Morimiya, a high-school boy with an obsession over the sky. He is a photographer and has dedicated his life to taking pictures of the ever-changing sky. The story begins as he is setting up, off a park road near a riverside, at four AM, to take pictures of the horizon as it comes into view. Suddenly he hears a banging sound, and turns to see that a short distance away there is a girl banging on a vending machine (left foreground in above picture). While helping to get the girl's can to drop from the old machine, he explains how he is going to take pictures of the horizon. Just as he notes that she will be able to se it soon, though, she suddenly disappears. The next day Yorito is telling his good friend Mana about the events. After school, the two go to visit Yorito's sister at the hospital (where Mana's uber-polite little sister is already waiting) and also give her some birthday gifts. (his sister, Aono, has a personality reflection of Mai from Kanon). Before long, though, catching a glimpse of the seting sun from between the curtains, he rushes out to the roof to get a picture of the sky as it beautifully adorns an old cathedral across town. Afterward, Yorito and Mana go home (apparently, they live together. This has not yet been fully explained). When Mana needs some ginger, she sends Yorito to head out to the store and buy some. On his way home, it suddenly begins raining, so he decides to wait out the storm under a wooden roof out it the park. Before long, he notices that once again, the strange girl is there, beating on the vending machine. After helping her aquire her drink (which is apparently some sort of really disgusting tomato soup thing) the two begin talking once more about the sky (which Yorito notices is painted inside the girl's umbrella. The girl seems to take a lot of interest in what he says and yet is saddened by it. What happens in the rest of the episode is really exciting so I wouldn't want to spoil it, but I will say this; the plot apparently involves vampires. If the story so far interests you at all, then go check it out. Personally, I thought it was a great firt episode, even moreso than the first episode of Kanon or Air, mostly because the characters don't seem to appear out of nowhere like they do in those shows. At this point, though, the story could go in just about any direction, so episode 2 will probably be a defining plot episode.
I remember seeing the last part of that movie. It was exquiset. (sp?) Then again people might just make manga for their personal enjoment. But from experience I know that sometimes a good idea could have a bad artist. I kept trying and trying, but alas, it wouldn't hep me. Another thing that grinds my gears, is when you wear all black and people think your goth or emo, when your not. Happens to my friend James, and me too, soon that is. I've been trying to find black pants for about a year now, and I got a pair yesterday. 've revamped my sense of style and I feel happier.
I know what you mean, being that I have that sort of look. All my clothes are black, I have long hair, and I shop at Hot Topic, but it's all out of preference. If that is what deifnes the goth lifestyle, then I supose I'd have to be grouped in there, but from people I know there's a whole lot of stuff factored into being 'goth' that I am in no way a part of. BUT, you can't really be mad at someone for thinking your a goth. I think I'll (indireclty) quote Carlos Mencia on this one... "I'm tired of girls who wear trampy outfits and then get mad at you for looking. They say things like 'these are the style I like, it doens't mean I'm a tramp' (or something to that effect). It''s like if you see someone in a police uniform, you know that their a policeman, right? So you may not be a tramp, ladies, but you're wearing their uniform!" See what I mean? As long as you wear a 'goth kids' uniform, it's only regular that people be confused.
More so than anything else I've posted in this thread, Japanophiles irritate me the most. This picture almost nearly sums up everything I hate about them: Except most of the Japanophiles I've met are teenagers, not sweaty old men.
There's a funny thing about this, though. The representation is entirely off. The people who run around saying 'ZOMG I love Japan!!11 I'm gunna be a manga writer!' are mostly the casual fans. The people who believe they are way into anime, watch nothing but adult swim, and buy volumes of Fruit Basket and Naruto all the time. Now, the people who are really, really into anime and watch the raw episodes as they are released in Japan, those people ten to be the ones laughing at those other fools. The one's wh omight like to take a trip to Japan a few times, but aren't all 'I GUNNA LIVE DERE!' and stuff. Lets face it -- being an anime fan in Japan SUCKS. They overprice everything. They have all that merchanise, but you can order most of it online a hundred times cheaper. So a Japanophile pic should be a 15 year-old girl in a Sasuke t-shirt and all black drawing a picture of Edward Elric and Kyo having sex.

I honestly pay little to know attention to the socks I put on. I try to make sure that they are at least around the same length, but I don't even care if they match. I'm no fan of thin socks, cuz once they're outside of your shoe they no longer have a purpose. I guess I'm more a fan of thick socks. I prefer ankle-length to longer ones by a long shot. i don't understand long sock - i never see people wear them pulled out, and when I've tried, they always end up falling back down anyway. Not to mention they make your ankles all sweaty anyway. I like being able to slide around my kitchen in socks, but I can't cuz my new house has a type of floor not good for it. because of that, I can't see myslf wearing socks at all in the house much more. I only ever wear them when i go to school anyway. If I'm going out any other time I just go without em.

it would be fruitless of me to say Winter. Why? Because in Virginia, winter doesn't exist anymore as of this past year. My whole life it's been that it gets coldest in December, lasts through the end of February, and then it warms up in March. NOT anymore! This year, it didn't even get really cold until late January and parts of February. Then what? All through march it was insane. It would go from 80 to 40 literally overnight and it was like that all march. Then April starts off and for a few days it was warm. Then, around saturday, it got all cold and.. what the hell? 3 days ago it SNOWED in April! The Imaginator is rolling over in it's grave!!! (5 points to whoever gets that reference) Anywho, as for my favorite season, I don't have one. No matter the temperature, I can never stand it. I will tell you one thing though, it isn't summer, even with the break. I hate summer. It gets all humid, and I can't deal with it. When it gets humid I start to freak out. Worse, though, is that the bugs come out. I have the biggest phobia of roaches ever. There were two events last summer where it was humid and I saw a roach and i went into a state of blind rage and paranoia from which I thought I would die. Not good. Fall is kinda cool. I think I'll pick that. Spring is alright, but I'm not a fan of bright colors like I am of the colors of falling leaves. Fall is real pretty, has a good temperature, and the bugs start to leave town.
No need to get aggressive, DigitalBoy. I wasn't being totally serious, you know? ;D But honestly, by obsessing over some minor detail, you really are making life harder for yourself. Taking it on your family and friends don't help you either, I for one would be quite pissed off if someone ordered me around like you say you do. I hope you say those things with a little more respect in practice than in your writing.
I agree that, for myself, I am definitely making life harder. It bugs the hell out of me that I have very little control over what I do sometimes, and it's annoying. Yet I've gotten so used to it, I don't know what it would be like otherwise... As for respect... yes, toward my parents, but what many consider 'respect' is hardly existent in my family. Between me and my brothers, every sentence has an insult in it somewhere, so a general lac of respect is ever-present, but we communicate in our own way and we are a very tight group. Even my brothers' friends almost always fall into this cycle, and it's all good fun. To stay on-topic I hate plastic cups that have a thick edge. The ones where instead of ending at the mouth, there's like a little ledge. When you drink, there's always a small remnant of the drink left on the ledge, and even if you drink with your mouth on a different part of the cu, the liquid slides down the ledge toward you. No matter what, you end up getting liquid on your cheeks and it ruins the entire drinking experience. I always have to wipe the rim before aking another sip. Crazy annoying.
Ok, well first off, how could you judge me on those 2 subjects just knowing on a computer without actually knowing me. Second, I know what your getting to, but I'm saying anything in particular within that subject, I'm just saying that it really ticks me off when people judge other for who they are, like religious beliefs, inerests, disabilities, appearence, all that kind of stuff.[/FONT']
But that's what makes you what you are. That's all ther is to judge on, and judgment is the basis of opinion. If someone isn't judging you hatsoever, then they are indifferent to you. The way people judge you is the makeup of who you are. Ho you portray yourself. Your life in the perception of others may not be what you consider to be 'you', but in their mind it is. The you that others judge you as is just as much 'you' as you are. But before I get into a whole 'I am the asuka in your mind,' 'while I am the asuka in her own mind', I think I'll skip down to... What grinds my gears is people who cant accept what they are. Who say 'I can't help being this way' instead of either doing all they can to change it or making it their own. no one, no matter the circumstances, is not allowed to be happy.
Wait, you mean they're releasing the DVD episodes in chronological order? That'll really mess up the pace of the series, not to mention taking away one of its more nutty features.
ZOMG I WAS UNAWARE OF THIS!!! If this thing is true, I may have to scale the Kadokawa headquarters, murder all the CEOs, paint myself with their blood, go on a rampage through the office Gungrave style, hunt down everyone I can recognize from the videos on asosbrigade.com, and finally, snipe Crispin Freeman jus for the hell of it. The lack of chronology is one of my favorite features of Haruhi. I'm glad I finally get the chance to explain why. You seem one major thing that has always annoyed me about stories in general is the climax. Now, it's only natural that the climax comes at the end, cuz if it came at the beginning you wouldn't car to watch/read/play the rest of the story, right? The things is, in real life, the bigest thing doesn't always happen last. Your life doesn't set itself up into rising action-climax-denoument. That's why stories like Haruhi and Boogiepop And Others appeal to me. Both of them take this into consideration and mix up the timeline, so that the climax is really somewhere in the middle of the story. As a matter of fact, and I'm sure they did this deliberately, both stories' part that takes place at the end of the timeline is actually the most slow-moving. It brings a whole other layer of realism to the story, which is necessary, since both of them are 'it could realy happen' stories. EDITED: to say Kadokawa >_>

Interesting... I actually found The Mantle[/B'] to be far superior to Pale Folklore. Even the instrumentals between the three "metal epics" are absolutely perfect - "Odal" and "The Hawthorne Passage" are completely inspiring all on their own. I'd suggest anyone pick this album up before looking into Pale Folklore.
...I'll use that as a segway into doing a large piece on Agalloch. As Jake said, and I cannot put it better myself,
AGALLOCH is pretty much the sweetest band EVAR. First of all, no band sounds like Agalloch. They are their own entity, and that is for certain. If you like your music unique, there's no way you won't dig you some Agalloch. The amount of atmosphere these guys pour into their music is absolutely astounding. You cannot help but wander into a world of autumn rain and winter snowfall while listening to them. Every single song is a journey. Their music paints vivid, beautiful images in your mind, and the nature-inspired, sorrow-filled, poetic lyrics compliment it perfectly. Basically, Agalloch transcends genre. They have created an entire world of their own, and for this, I love them to no end. I strongly suggest listening to their music with a pair of really nice headphones while sitting somewhere peaceful outdoors. It's a moving experience.
Now, Agalloch currently has three albums and a bunch of EPs released. Their first release, Pale Folklore, is the definition of a truly solid album. It begins with the 3-part track She Painted Fire Across The Skyline. This track starts out kind of slow, but builds into an active and enjoyable song and has a brilliant and explosive climax worthy of comparison to the likes of such legends as 2112. The Misshapen Steed is a 4 minute instrumental which, in my opinion, is the best of all of Agalloch's instrumental pieces. It then goes into two solid tracks, Hallways of Enchanted Ebony and Dead Winter Days, both of which are of Agalloch's more metal side. Then there's As Embers Dress the Sky, a track that reaches downright orchestral hights and is increadibly memorable. The CDs final track, The Melancholy Spirit, isn't particularly impressive, but is definetally Agalloch and still carries the atmospheric vibe. Now, many would like to argue that The Mantle is their greatest album, but i disagree. After a brief intro is the behemoth track In The Shadow Of Our Pale Companion, which is absolutely brilliant and among their highest peeks. But that then carries into th 7-minute instrumental Odal. Now don't get me wrong, Odal is a good song... in the middle. Unfortuanetally, the long, minimalist intro and outro really loose your attention and before long I found myself skipping the track altogether for the most part. Next is I Am The Wooden Doors, which follows in the footsteps of Hallways of Enchanted Ebony. There are parts of this song that I do like, but for the most part, it feels really off to me. I think I just hate the riff that lasts most of the beginning. the Lodge, another instrumental track, is once again good, but once you've heard it a few times, it gets old. Its essentially four minutes of one repetition and while beautiful, it does get old. There are some really good songs on here, though. The Hawthorne Passage is Agalloch's longest instrumental piece and a generally apetising work. You Were But A Ghost In My Arms just about makes up for the folley of Wooden Doors. Then we have 5-minute track ...And the Great Cold Death of the Earth. now, the problem with this song is a strange one. You see, the most commonly used riff in this song is almost exactly identical to the one used in their Sol Invictus cover of Kneel To The Cross. Kneel To The Cross is my absolute favorite Agalloch song, though, so it ends up being a disappointment when I hear that riff and don't hear it. Finally there's my personal favorite track on the album, A Desolation Song, a brief, somber piece with -- ACCORDIAN!!! Agalloch's most recent release was Ashes Against the Grain (which I'm actually listening to right now.) Ashes Against the Grain takes the best of Agalloch's sounds, and imbunes it with way more power and more synth. The album begins with two 9-minute masterpieces Limbs and Falling Snow. Limbs immediately tells you that this is a more powerful Agalloch by taking their usual sound and tuning everything up. Falling Snow is just plain amazing. It has great riffs, epic atmosphere, and one of the most vivid paintings of winter you will ever see. After a brief segway track, there is Fire Above, Ice Below. This track most resembles the style of The Mantle, but far more honed and perfected into a cacophany of awesome. After that is 10-minute opus Not Unlike The Waves, the crown jewel of AATG. I cannot easily describe this songs awesomeness, you simply must hear it. Now, the next last 3 songs on the album, the 3 parts of Our Fortress Is Burning, are a bit of a departure. Part one is an instrumental piece, but not quite like any of their previous ones except in that it doesn't really hold your attention multiple times around. Now part 2, bloodbirds, is really something and brings ferocity with what i can only describe as the voice of an angry tree. It's a very good song, and a great ending to the album... or would be if it weren't for part 3. 7 minutes of wind and feedback. no joke. It sucks. Why its there, I don't know. So overall, I think AATG and Pale Folklore are teh Agalloch win, though The Mantle isn't without it's strong points. For vids, check out my previous post.
I've used Macs exclusively since late 2004. I've never encountered this, ever. I call ********.[/color']
Okay, right now, access either iMovie or Garageband. It will ask you what to name your project. give it a name, then enter the program. Do something so that it will turn the X onto a little dot, then exit and click 'don't save'. Then exist the program alltogether. Now, reactivate it. Annoying as hell, i swear.

That picture with the Wiimotes is pure, unadalterated win. Anywho, this was my post on megatokyo, so enjoy. From the perspective of just finishing the food part so many have whined about: Now... on the one hand, I can totally respect the inner psychology of food-eating stretegies. I am very methodical in this sense -- just today I was doing an experiment in peeling the skin off of beeny weenies by rolling them through my teeth (I call it 'circumcision' XD) . Parts of their discussiob were alright. But I'll admit, it got so boring that near the end, every time they brought up another food I would roll my eyes. The only part that was really any funny was when she said how she felt sorry for the tariaki. I loled. Also, was that a female version of Edward Elric in the op?! From the influenza part, I will say that I love this anime's conversational tone. These sound like the kind of random, stupid, and yet interesting discussions I get into with my friends and associates, and it's pulled off much better than other shows of it's type. Also, I absolutely love how deep Konata-chan is into anime. Her way of speech tickles me XD *some funny stuff and then* NOOO! They're talking about food again! Damn you! Damn you all! Anywho, Lucky channel was pretty funny, though it had absolutely no point whatsoever... overall, I'm giving this show a 'meh' as far as episode one. I was expecting a lot more from a KyoAni work, though I guess it's not their fault if the source material just sucks. This show, being around at the same time as Hidamari Sketch and having a blatantly similar concept, is going to be a toughie. On the one hand, i can see myself liking the characters and situations in Lucky Star even more than hidamari, but on the other hand, Hidamari has been overall better for getting into so far, and it's got all those weird quirks which make it cool. It'll be tough.

Well god freaking damn it... this sucks. That artbox thing is WAY too freaking expensive. I WILL buy it, but I don't even want to think about how much I have to save. And what the cheese?! The special edition of each DVD is 45 bucks?! (or was it 50?!) I can't afford that! I'm not made of money! This ucks so much because my motto is 'if there is a special edition; buy it!' AND this is my alltime favorite anime, but I don't have this kind of money! that's around 200 bucks for only 13 episodes! I'm sorry but that's rediculous. (although thank god we aren't in Japan where it came out to the equivelant of 350 or so) and what's more, the previews for the dubbing sounded like ***. Haruhi's voice acter just plain doesn't work, and I can already invision myself sniping Crispin Freeman the minute he murders my favorite Kyon lines. I will watch this anime dubbed only once -- when I am showing it to my lil bro -- and never again. *angry*
