1. Not bad, but it could use some work. First of all, i do like your opening description of the day. What you do need to do a little more, though, is to make it feel more in it's time frame. You don't tell us when or where this story is, and until the line about his father being on a crusade, I had been picturing this in modern times. Always remember to figure out what the reader is seeing as opposed to what you are. Secondly, you say that Galbor dressed in his normal attire, but we have no idea what his normal attire is. the line "During that time alone with his cat, miles above him a small meteorite was falling fast" sounds a bit awkward. Try "While he enjoyed his time alone with his cat, he was oblivious to a metor falling miles above" or something. Also, if this character is now dead, as it seems to be te case, then this is a totally cheesy beginning to the story, lol. My last complaint is that the 3 men "suddenly" appeared from the meteor. When things happen 'suddenly' it entirely destroyed the audience's depiction of what's going on. Good luck with your tale!
2. So, your new to anime, eh? Immediately go for the classic above all classics Neon Genesis Evangelion. Best fights, best story, some freaking crazy parts and an ending that may just change your perception of the world. another good one if you like action is Elfen Leid allthough I warn you it contains supurfluous underage nudity (no sex, though) and more gore than you can shake a stick at. If you wanna check out some cool movies, scope out Blood The Last Vampire or Vampire Hunter D. Both are great, well-written action movies. If you want something with more of a thriller aspect, check out X the movie. If you want to get deeper, you have to look for stuff online. For now I'm keeping to stuff that's easy to find on DVD.
3.
This week, I've been playing Guitar Hero II, and now I'm tapping into my inner metalhead, so this week's coolest song is: Beast And The Harlot / Avenged Sevenfold hourable mentions include:

Robot Rock [Maximum Overdrive Mix] / Daft Punk
Insititutionalized / Senses Fail
When You Were Young [Remix] / The Killers

>_< Oh my god, i know you did not just gratify Senses Fail on their hideous rehash of Institutionalized. the ORIGINAL, man!!! Now that's where its at!!! Suicidal Tendencies!!! Also, if you've only been listening to Beast And The Harlot on GH2, go listen to the real song. The coverband on GH2 does an allright job, but the singing is horrifying and the guitars are awkward at parts (prolly cuz they turned up the bass so much). Anywho, just to stay on topic, Black Rose Immortal by Opeth is awe-inspiring. A 20-minute epic of total coolness.
4. Over the past few days I've been listening to a whole lot of Opeth and some of the new Mastodon tracks and lodged a couple more tunes into my noggin. The songs Remember Tommorrow and Windowpanes are both excellent examples of Opeth's more melodic brilliance and worth a listen for fans of any sort of creepy prog-rock or metal. These guys have a myraid of good songs, but these 2 are the only ones considerably catchy. The song The Wolf Is Loose is a badass track from the new Mastodon album and a perfect showcasing of their brilliant riffage. This band is definetally one to look out for because they truly bring the thunder with a wonderful joining of uniqueness and pure unbridaled fury. Also, I'm really getting into the Agalloch CD Ashes Against the Grain. Falling Snow and Limbs are both amazing.
5.
The reason I'm getting a PS3. Not worth it 'til it's out. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Solid Snake. Thick Mustache. Urban Warfare. 'nuff said.
Konami has said that this game will probably come out on the 360. Save yourself 200 bucks and the hell of searching for a PS3.
6. 2006, while a great year for music, gave us nothing in the realm of movies. While we did get the best TV show ever (METALOCALYPSE!!!) there wasn't really much going on with TV. 2007 looks to be much nicer, though. Here's some of the things to look forward to.... - Spiderman 3 - Transformers the movie - TMNT - Possibly the Hobbit and much more I assume. So, what're you looking forward to? Personally I'm on the edge of my seat for Transformers. The previews have shown us so little, but it still looks totally sick!!!
7.
artist- Mars Volta album- Amputechture http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000GPI1BO.01._SS500_SCLZZZZZZZ_V41379603_.jpg sorry, had trouble figuring out how to paste the picture up. Took me a while to figure out they are smuggling a giant baby. The art style of this album reminds me of the work of Diego Rivera, if he actually didn't do it. The album itself is pretty nice, but you kind of have to have a thing for long tracks. Viscera Eyes is probably my favorite rock song of all time now.
That picture is very special, my friend. Head to the Mars Volta website and go to the forums -- you can learn a hell of a lot of background on the amputated mutant, the smuggling itself, and the wrappings around the mutant. It's very interesting. I also nominate this album.
8. This is actually a concept album I wrote lyrics for which I would like for someone to read as all my friends wouldn't (lazy bums.) PLEASE post your thoughts if you read!!! I need opinions! The CD would time in around 1:13:00 or so and falls under the genre of "post-metal". The ones left off have no lyrics. To anyone wondering, it is based off of The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess (but not directly related.) Also, track 8 is in a different thread, so I wont post it here. 9. While I am still listening to those aforementioned Agalloch songs over and over, I have found another song to add to my brain. It's title is Hero In A Dream and it's band is Ensiferum. This is an awesome, adventurous, and totally uplifting piece of nordic wonder. It's fast, it's fun, and it's got some nice instrumentation. Plus I found this video of it with Guild Wars which is totally cool. Any metal fans, or just fans of fun music, check this one out.
10. Halo 3: I know a lot of people like to slander the Halo series, but I happen to be an extremely big fan of it, and would even consider Halo 2 my alltime favorite game. I don't care about the story, really, I just can't wait to get more Halo action, and this one's sure to be amazing. I only hope Bungie doesn't slack after their rediculous success. I trust them, though, cuz Halo 2 had a whole bloody ton of great stuff. Super Smash Bros. Brawl: I think SSBM was probably the game I've played the most of any game (If not Halo 2 or Phantasy Star Online) and I cannot wait to witness it's triumphant return. We only get one Smash Bros per generation, and if this one lives up to it's forefathers, it's sure to be one hell of a ride. I still haven't personally come fully to grips with the Wiimote, which worries me, but I'm sure this game will wash away any of my doubts. Tales of the Tempest: Alas! A DS game I may just enjoy (PLEASE come to America!). Tales of Symphonia is one of my favorite games, though I could never really get into any of the other games. From what I've heard, this game uses the same systems as TOS which will be great if true! Also, whats the name of that Zelda DS game?!
11. As a soul carried in the body of a male, I suppose my opinion shoudl count, although the things I say really can't be said for many others. I will likely never ask a girl out. If they want to go out with me, i may agree, I may not, I happen to be increadibly picky (and thus I so doubt that I shall ever aquire a meaningful relationship) but if I do like a girl, and she asks me out (I can't see this happening until at least college) I would agree. I don't know what I'd say, but it would be a form of 'yes'.
12. Frances The Mute Band: The Mars Volta Why? The only thing more strange and disturbing than the lyrics of The Mars Volta is the artwork. A man crawling down a massive treetrunk, men driving with red bags over their head, a mannequin torso beside a mirror reflecting a different image, and the woman with her mouth sewn together. All of these and more make the chilling atmosphere of FTM even more... chilling. It's freaky, and the photography is top-knotch. Plus they actually included all the lyrics in all their freakish glory.
13. Oh my tetragrammaton, I can't believe I totally forgot a rating!!! This song is a sort of bonus track on a CD concept I'm working on and I think it's pretty kewl. Derive your own meanings. ~~ A Layer Untold ~~ (Disjointed) Reality figments Light reflections Mind comprehension Mentally disjointed A layer above A layer untold Universal dimensions Existence unfolded Numbness incurred Unconsious desire Meaning in thoughts Thoughts in perception A layer above A layer untold Subjective truths A mind's eye view Electric impulses Universal conscience Eternally fated Self-aquired death A layer above A layer untold Meanings of life Signs point to none
14. - The new Evangelion Movies Ohyespleazethankyou. i can never get enough Eva, and what better way to quench my thirst?!? Finally some more freaky psychological crap to wrap my mind around!! I'm majorly excited! i only hope they can live up to the title of Eva. - the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya english release I'm scared for this one because if they mess up then it'll really suck. I can't wait to buy these and then force everyone I know to watch them! Haha! I only hope all the cultural things translate well. - Kino's Journey movie I like this idea because Kino is such an open-ended series that the movie could be about anything and you know it's going to be cool! I'm really hoping the season 2 rumors are true as well. ... more Death Note is always nice too
15. While your point is valid, I can't help but think it sounds like your whining. All time should be judged this way -- no need to pick on New Years. Pointless as it is -- we celebrate it's hold on us and theres no point complaining. In a way -- your deduction of the uselessness of counting time is equally as useless as counting time itself. You probably knew that, though. I can't help but think this poem wasproduced from a sadness your already feeling, no? Not bad, anyway. As I said --- you do have a point.
16. Kill Bill (I will refer to it as one title to avoid confusion) is probably my favorite movie ever. It's got a great story told in great ways by revealing things as they need to be known and not following the usual movie progression. It's brutal, it's crazy, and it's awesome. Call me a vicarious bastard, but I can't help but think it's cool when someone cuts down an entire army with blood flying everywhere. Plus, like so many others, i absolutely fell in love with the anime sequence. Pure coolness. Plus the visual style all throughout was amazing -- like the scenes in black and white or the blue shadow fight and the like. All great scenes. Pulp Fiction is likely my second favorite movie of all time. It's just plain great! The way the characters communicate is what really drew me in cuz it was not only funny but really cool.
17. Happy Freakin New Year!!! Great way to start off a new year (Metalocalypse marathon -- now all on DVR box hehe)! Gettin hyped up on absurd amounts of pizza and 'sparkling cider' (cheesy to say, fun to drink), watching Metalocalypse and Red vs. Blue and hangin out. Hour later -- completely psychoanalyzing my brother (so random! but it lasted 5 hours!) Waking up at 2:30 is exactly where I want the new year to begin recognizing me. This is a chain I don't need severed -- a chain of hapiness! That's the theme of '07 for me! My resolution ended up being -- "I WILL START A BAND!!!" And I'll be damned if we aren't recording by December. Hell WILL be raised this year (for me), I promise myself. Hope all your New Years went as well as mine, and hope you're all ready for an awesome, crazy, and in my case, totally metal year!!!
18. Life is the slow road to death. Live it, love it, regret nothing. The mere idea that one not be allowed to live as they please is rediculous. Anyone should have the right to shorten their life as they please. Only through the restriction of death do people fear it so. Without the fear of death, one could truly live hapilly. I think nothing should be restricted. You can't say 'this should be, that shouldn't'. It's all one way or all the other. my vote -- legalize everything. EDIT: I just totally contradicted my sig >_< need to change that up...
19. My goal for 07? Do something. Anything. Finally write a novel, finally learn guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, or violin, finally start a band, finally make a friend, finally go outside, finally beat Shadow Hearts Covenant, Xenosaga, Disgaea, and many others, finally start caring about something, finally get my *** outta bed... It'll be a year of finallys and I'm damn sure a lot of this WILL be happening cuz I'm done screwing around.
20. Interesting. I read this ... story, if you will, in the style of a freestyle rap and found it quite intriguing. I like your story, even though you made up a whole lot of words it seems and that's aside from the seemingly randomly tossed biology terms. I suppose i could make the complaint that there are no periods, paragraphs, commas, stanzas, or anything, but I'm guessing you did that on purpose. In fact, I'm guessing that everything about this... 'story'... is exactly as you intended itt without intending to change it, so I can't really tell you to correct it. Overall, I think it was cool. How long did you spend on it?
21.
Hey thanks! So besides taking out that one stanza, do you think it's too long? I've had some people tell me that they think it's way to long, but I said it didn't matter... Opinions?
No way! Your poem is perfect length aside from that stanza which I don't find to be making your poem too long, it's just a bad stanza. I'm glad to see some length variety, so by all means, keep your poems long!
22. Some bands manage to have some darn good artwork on their covers or in their little insert booklet. What are your favorite examples of album artwork? Note that pictures aren't a requirement, I just thought it would be cool. In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3 Band: Coheed And Cambria Why? The cover doesn't do it much justice, but this CD has some astounding artwork. Most of it is very grainy brown and has a deserted feel. Buildings lean in on deserted cracking streets and all of Earth seems, well, silent. (if you've played Gears of War, a lot of it is in that vein of destroyed beauty) Good Apollo I'm Burning Star Four IV, Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness (note: this is the comic cover, but I couldn't find any album art) Band: Coheed And Cambria Why? This CD takes images from the graphic novel which corresponds with the disk and puts them on the pages. The artwork is simply amazing, and Christopher Shy is unbelievably skilled. The images are creepy at times and synch well with the dark overtones of the songs. It truly comes to life in the graphic novel version which makes me disappointed that they switched illustrators for the future releases.

Covers

Funny, I had actually thought of creating this same thread a couple hours ago, but I remembered there being one before and wasn't sure about it. Covers are alright, if done correctly. If a bad just rehashes an old song and doesn't add anything to it, then there's no point. Covers shouldn't be released as singles in my opinion, at least if the song was a single when the first band did it. Just seems like riding someone else's coat-tails. There are a lot of cool covers out there. Land of Confusion by Disturbed (and Shout 2000) are pretty cool and in my opinion better than the In Flames version. Type O Negative does a great job of both Cinnamon Girl (Neil Young) and Angry Inch (some movie). System of a Down's rendition of Snowblind (Black Sabbath) is also great. My alltime favorite cover-song, though, is probably Kneel To The Cross by Agalloch (you can hear it on purevolume.com) a cover of a Sol Indictus song. My dream band-covering-song would be Coheed And Cambria doing Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen) or Limelight (Rush). Or perhaps TV on the Radio doing Rain from the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack.
24.
Digital Boy, I'm confused as to exactly what you think is a poem? The way I define poetry would be something that tells a story and or relates a meaning, in a relatively short way, in the layout of a poem. Having metre and rhyme 'and stuff' does not constitute a poem, because freeform is a vaild style. And Fallen Angel's poem is most definately a poem, because it has an obvious poetry form and is intended to be a poem. So what if she chooses to tell a story within this poem? How does that in anyway negate the fact that it's a poem? Telling the story and involving the reader is a good thing. Frankly, if you don't have anything to say or any story to tell, I have to wonder why you write? Fallen Angel, I have to disagree with Digital Boy. Yes, you're telling a story in this -- and for that I applaud you. To me this poem is sweet, it's sad, it's practical. It's disappointed but realistic. It's a good poem, and a good story. There is one thing that made me wince, however; Then he was like, "Thank you. Please god, never let me catch you using the phrase 'then he was like, "[words]"' ever again. It's just too preppy and not enough poetry. It made it too...Valley Girl; "So I said to him, like, "I'm not taking this crap," and he was like, "Well maybe I don't need to either" so I'm like "Yeah, sure, whatever," and that was like, it." So all up, I have to say that I like it. It's good, it's cohesive, it tells me something I didn't know. Poetry doesn't need to be ridiculously complex to be good, so I'm going to say, "Well done". ^_^
Correct me is I'm wrong, but I believe I literally said "it is a poem" in my post. Now, mind you, I don't like calling it a poem. That, though, is personal preference. My opinion should not effect anyone else's.
25. Okay, everyone knows rock basically emerged from blues, but blues has sort of flittered out of existence on the mainstage of music. Some bands, though, seem to be incorporating a lot of blues elements into their rock-ness to more and less extents. The most notable injection of blues into rock is probably TV on the Radio who slide a highly vocal blues-style over melodic rock undertones and create a nifty little groove. A lot of their stuff is tinged with dark or gloomy atmosphere but I still want to describe their style as fun. They're a great example of beauty through simplicity (please note, though, that I have not heard more than 7 songs by this band, so bear with me if I'm mistaken). The tracks Wolf Like Me and Staring At The Sun are both very catchy and have stuck with me all day. I can't easily describe the style of Pearls And Brass, my second example of bluesy rock (but I'm sure I've given multiple descriptions in previous threads where I spoke of this band's awesomeness. Somewhere between fun and memorable riffs, blues-bass and dragged out vocals, and the deep-underground feel of Pearls And Brass is one hell of a good band of three. The best showcasing of their blues nature comes through in tracks such as Black Rock Man (also my Xbox Live gamertag) and Beneath The Earth.
