1. Welcome, all! This is the Video Game Sub-title Game! What is this you ask? Simple! One person puts out a game subtitle... EX: Twilight Princess As well as 2 hints... EX: 1. Released for the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo Gamecube 2. Number 14 in a running series created by Shigero Miyamoto And the next person answers with the full title! EX: The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess! Then that person puts up a subtitle and the game goes on! Hopefully we can do this correctly and the thread will thrive. If the moderators have any suggestions to modify this thread's concept without having to close it, I would happily take it. NOTES: If a game's title is something like 'Guitar Hero 2' the '2' does not count as a subtitle. On the other hand, a game like 'Starfox Assualt' can be counted as 'Assault' is not part of the series title. In game titles like 'Sonic Adventure 2 Battle' do not include the '2'. It is reccommended that you use subtitles with more than one word or uncommon ones so as not to create confusion. NOTES CONT.: Looking up the titles online defeats the point of the game, so I can only ask you not to do so, but please make sure you know the game the title goes to and don't post if you aren't sure. I'll start with an easy one... Sub-title: Eternal Wings And The Lost Ocean 1. Released in 2004 for the Nintendo Gamecube and a sequel was made in 2006 2. Advanced battle system combined RPG elements with card-battle strategy creating something unique and addicting.
2. Vocal work can make or break a band in my opinion. If the voice doesn't fit the music (or just all-around sounds terrible) than I'll likely have a hard time getting into the music (it took me a while to warm up to Avenged Sevenfold simply because I couldn't stand M Shadows' vocal work, but I've gotten used to it) So, what's your preffered vocal style or all-around favorite vocalist? While my genre-of-choice is metal, the growling and screaming vocals annnoy the heck outta me. Very few of these screamers sound very good at all (Isis, for example, is has one of the acceptional vocal performances because the vocals take backstage to the music). Personally, i like the lighter, ofter high-pitch vocalists. Claudio Sanchez (Coheed and Cambria) and Cedric Bixler-Zavala (The Mars Volta) are examples of highly ranged, high-pitched vocalists who do the job well (Cedric sounds downright freaking creapy on some tracks and creats perfect ambiance). Also, when he isn't doing the black-metal growl, the singer for Agalloch has a grat voice, too. (not to say the black-metal growl is especially unpleasent)
3. One day left to live? I'd do everything I'd been too scared to do before. - Probably kill somebody in a horriffic way (then cry for a while) - Have sex with someone (probably multiple times so that my last isn't my worst, heh) - Begin yelling at everyone on the street about how blind/ignorant they are - Jump in a lake - Scale a wall - Jump off the roof of my house - Drive (and likely crash into something) And some stuff for myself... - Eat a freaking ton of chili-cheese dogs - Enter an eating contest (preferredly for chili-cheese dogs) - Beat the crap out of my computer with a slegehammer - Beat the crap out of my PS2 with a sledgehammer - Beat the crap out of various other things with a sledgehammer Ah, who am I kidding, this is what would really happen: What? I'm gunna die?! *imagines self doing beforementioned things* ... "hey dad, lets go get some chili dogs" *eats several chili dogs* "hey mom, can i smash the PS2?" "why, so we'll have to by another one? No! Your funeral's gunna cost enough already." *is disappointed* *eats several more chili dogs* ... *plays Phantasy Star Online with brothers, chili dogs, and a few bottles of Mountain Dew till I croak*
4. In response to Jakehammaren: Well, when it comes to Agalloch's previous works such as The Mantle, the two bands can't really be compared. Both are great in their own right, while Agalloch may even be better. But when it comes to Ashes Against The Grain the two are more comparable and I don't think Agalloch does it as well. I'm listening to it now, and In The Absence of Truth just seems like a better CD. Inhuman Rampage Band: Dragonforce Why? Dragonforce is a bit of a strange choice for me. Normally I listen to freaked-out, melodic crap with out-of-wack time singnatures, but Dragonforce is enough to tear me away from that. The main draw of Dragonforce, of course, is the sick, intense and super-speed guitar solos which last several minutes and are wonderfully structured. This wouldn't be enough to get me on the band, though. What makes Dragonforce brilliant is the spirit. The pulse-pounding adrenaline rush of extreme guitars wailing over a constant beat with the most uplifting and magical vocal work I've ever heard. Nothing makes me want to weild a sword and fight for freedom like Dragonforce! Best Songs: Body Breakdown, Operation Ground And Pound, Revolution Deathsquad Honerable Mentions: AFI - Decemberunderground, Tenacious D - The Pick of Destiny CDs That disappointed me this year: Trivium - The Crusade
5. I don't need a perfect day. I don't want a perfect day. how would anything be able to compare to it? Once you've had the perfect day, would anything else be acceptable? Every day, wouldn't you be looking back at that day and wishing it were like that? I'd be perpetually trapped in the past. How could I have the will to live knowing that no other day will compare to that one? Perfection is not something to be taken lightly.
6. In The Absence Of Truth Band: Isis Why? This CD has some of the sickest percussion work I've ever heard, period. With that out of the way, Isis once again brings the thunder with great melodic guitaring and creating a beautiful ambiance. The lead singer has disposed of most of the screaming which dominated their earlier titles for elongated singing. The two are mixed very well, though, matching the singing with the twinkling melodies of calmer parts while putting screaming vocals over musical explosions. Isis has brilliant pacing, amazing ability, and total overall awesomeness. Plus the drums are freaking amazing. Best Songs: Wrists of Kings, All out of time - All into space Ashes Against The Grain Band: Agalloch Why? While admittedly this CD sounds a lot like Isis with an acoustic guitar thrown in, this CD is really freaking good. A black metal voice and constant sense of darkness in the falling of nature loom over this piece. What really matters here, though, is the song Not Unlike The Waves. This song is beautifully written, perfectly coordinated, and just plain good. Even the shortened version with the video is good (look it up on youtube). The acoustics on this CD are all very pretty (funny using 'pretty' with 'black metal') and the melodic nature, as stated, very much resembles Isis. Best Songs: Not Unlike The Waves, Our Fortress is Burning...II Bloodbirds
7. Best XBox 360 game: Well, my vote probably has to go to Gears of War as well. Between stunning visuals, amazing combat, and the best multiplayer I've played since Halo 2, GOW is a definite win. The cover system is downright freaking brilliant, and nothing is quite as satisfying as chainsawing your opponent in half. The single player has a lot of things that make it unique from regular run-and-gun shooters, and the up-close-and-personal gameplay style really draws you in. Best PS2 Game: Well, it's really hard for me to say. I only just got FFXII, Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner, and Disgaea 2, all of which I had wanted all year. Other than those I don't think I've even got any games that were released this year.I'll have to come back to this one after playing more of those 3 games. So far, FFXII has been freaking amazing, though. Nintendo Wii: Once again, I only just started playing this with LOZ TP and COD 3 so I haven't really had much time with either, but my brother's been playing the hell outta The Leend of Zelda Twilight Princess, and so far it's been brilliant. Hyrule is huge and fun, combat is intriguing, and the new weapons are a joy. Nintendo DS: There were a surprisingly large amount of great games which came out for the DS this year, although they're a bit more my brother's foray then my own. My brother says his favorite was Final Fantasy 3, which I have hardly toughed, but it does seem neato and I love the controls. Of what I've played, Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 March of the Minis was a pretty darn cool little game and very addictive. I was actually pretty disappointed by Metroid Prime DS. The level design was just really poorly done. Game Boy Advanced: I think the only GBA game I bought this year was Tales of Phantasia. It was alright, the story wasn't really deep enough for an RPG. While Final Fantasy may have worked this out, TOP didn't make up for it enough. As a result, once I got stuck I stopped playing and never really had the urge to pick it back up. I really would like that other GBA game with the real-time battles from the makers of Golden Sun. And, wow. i'm shocked that I didn't get any Gamecube games this year, heh.
8. Amputechture Band: The Mars Volta Why? While I personally prefer their earlier works, Amputechture does not disappoint. A head-trip of an album with dark, dragged-out songs full of horns, guitars and trippy noises flying at you from all directions along with Cedric Bixler-Zavala's high-pitched vocal work will make your brain implode. Plus, certain parts are really freaking creepy. The Mars Volta delivers in the department of strange and unique, especially in the lyrics which fans have spent countless answers toiling over the meanings of. Each song ends suddenly (amputated) and they follow varying styles. 3 of the 8 songs reach over 10 minutes, too! Best Songs: Tetragrammaton, Vermicide, Vicera Eyes
9. I highly doubt anyone picked up on this, but my name has moved up a year since the new year is just around the bend. 2006 became 2007, although my true name remains 21st Century Digital Boy.
10. XD!!! That was awesome!! And I now need to search down Youtube for a version in which someone has translated Asahina and Yuki-chan's parts. I can't wait for the US release! I just hope they get a good voice actor for Kyon. His Japanese voice was awesome. *imagines what a live-action Haruhi show would be like*
11.
Tokyopop has released a couple of light novels (with Kino no Tabi and Scrapped Princess being the most notable of them). If you like Boogiepop, you'd probably like Kino as well. A couple of BL light novels have also been released over here, although they tend to have awful translations. Now, if someone brought over Maria-sama ga Miteru or The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, I'd be interested. I can't say I'm that excited about any of the upcoming Seven Seas titles, though. I just hope they keep putting out more Boogiepop. ~Dagger~
OMFG *does backflip* Kino's novel form is out?! How did I not know of this?! (the hunt begins!) I'd also love to see the Haruhi ovels over here and if aruhi really has been liscensed then things are looking up. Of the Seven Seas novels I'm most interested in Ballad of a Shinigami, and Gun Princess sounds pretty cool as well. I'll likely buy them both, regardless. *(im)patiently awaiting next boogiepop release*
12. What is aparently a trend in Japan is Japanese Light Novels, breif but cool novels with lots of anime/manga influence and pictures. The only one I know of being available stateside is the Boogiepop series (my favorite series of all time), but Seven Seas Entertainment (who brought over Boogiepop) are planning on releasing a wave of Light Novels come April. I'm pretty excited about it, as I'm an anime nerd with a liking for books and a huge Boogiepop fan. Also Seven Seas always does a great translating job and has a lot of extra bonus material included with their releases. PLUS the novels are only gunna be 8 bucks! (I think they're gunna like really small, too) So, anyone else interested/uninterested/way ahead of me?
13. there were a few recent ones that made my day. In episode 7 of Death Note when Light is talking to the FBI chick and he's
about to find out her identity. As he's writing down her death, Aizawa comes running by and opened his umbralla JUST in time to not see Light.
I nearly did a backflip right there. Another was in Kino's Journey at the very end of the last episode. Kino looks back at
the village and all of a sudden a volcano erupts and buries the entire town. for the first time, we see Kino totally heartbroken.

14. This is easily the most fun I;ve had with an actio ngame since Halo 2 and I'm lovin it! The combat is so crazy and great and you fight like a team of trained professionals should be. The AI is amazing IMO, and the cover system works so well it breaks the boundary of 'gimmick' and even 'shtick'. Everything about this game appeals to me, be it in single player or multiplayer. The XBOX Live mode is astounding in my opinion because it takes teamwork to a new level. You and your teammates can for a strategy that actually works and execute it well, just like a real trained professional would. Also, I like the story, contrary to popular thought. Especially the characters.
15. This week it's been Not Unlike The Waves by Agalloch. It's 9 minutes long with very few lyrics, but the lyrics themselves are great, the atmosphere is grand, and the guitar work on the acoustic is amazing. Aurora swims in the ether, Emerald fire scars the night sky Amber streams from Sol are not unlike the waves of the sea Nor the endless horizong of ice Heidrun bleeds the golden nectar, rising(?) with the sun and the moon The midnight wolves that watch over the dawn SOLSTAFIR!!! I'm also loving Atomic Garden by Bad Religion. It's crazy and catchy and the video will give you a seizure. I'm rather disappointed by their new song, though.
16. When I saw the end of your post I almost backflipped cuz I have a friend named Ashley and Becca who are best friends and know a lot of people, but then I saw you lived in Oklahoma lol. Its a big world. This poem is awesome in my opinion. I'm no viable critic though, so I hope your able to get a second opinion on this. Your metaphors are great, your story is cool (albeit depressing) and I like how your character is about to die and is looking back on his thoughts in a form of message. There were a couple parts that I thought could have been taken out*, but overall it was damn good! My favorite part has to be... I was too slow then, But I'm not anymore. The car's reached 130, embracing the wind as I embrace this steel. *You once asked why I was alone And now you can be sure: You knocked down my defense Just to build up your own. This line feels repetitive since all this stuff is said in some other way earlier.
17. Not bad, once again, you're pretty darn good! I didn't see anything particularly brilliant about this poem, probably just because I don't relate to it at all, but it's still not bad. As I've said before, your lyrics carry the heavy dark tone of a Linkin Park song and thus it is to them you shall be consistently compared. I'd be interested to see if you can do any longer poems, too. So far you've kept them rather short.
18. I've got this one rurouni Kenshin CD with two 8:30 minute metal songs on it that are totally badass. Once headbanged so hard to them I couldn't move for a day afterward. ...apart from that i don't know anything much about J-metal. I have listened to some boris and their drone stuff nearly put me to sleep. I can't deal with 1 note for 4 minutes.
19. The year is coming to a close, folks! It's time to talk about the best releases of '06! This may include CDs or DVDs! For DVDs, include talking about your favorite extra features and stuff. The Indian Tower Band: Pearls And Brass Why: Blues and rock come together and produce some insane riffage and some sweet sludge-rock tunes from beneath the earth. One guitar, one bass, and one drumkit come together in one of the most interesting and unique sounds of the decade. This CD can be fun any time and is just plain good. Also, it's two mezmerising acoustic tracks will blow your mind. Best Songs: The Mirror, I Learn The Hard Way, Away The Mirrors, Wake In the Morning 10,000 Days Band: Tool Why: After 5 years of hiatus, Tool returns with the epic prog-rock piece 10,000 Days and some interesting new tracks. While personally I do prefer Lateralus, 10,000 Days carries some great songs such as Rosetta Stoned and Right In Two. Each song stands on it's own and follows a dark, creepy avenue of progressive-rock. A great choice for anyone looking to break into the genre. Best Songs: Rosetta Stoned, Right In Two, Jambi
20.
Hmmm.....I think i'm gonna go with jumping off the Statue of Liberty. I mean, at least there's no traffic up there, right? Would you rather eat a dog? Or.... Would you rather eat a cat?
A cat definetally. I hate dogs and am disgusted by them, so personally I don't want anything to do with them. As for cats, they actually look quite tasty and if I had to, I could see myself biting into that fluffy litle back and tearing it's spine out with my teeth *picturing it* *ew* Would you rather: live in a dumpster Or live in a box
21. OB is a hub for all sorts of folks: Anime fanatics, TV-heads, Uber-gamers, Music-junkies, Bookworms and more. So my question is obvious - what's your favorite form of media? RULES - tell why it's your favorite, and if you want you can talk about multiple, or compare them all and pick a final answer. Music: Music comes in all styles and sounds from the underpracticed to the overwhelming, from soothing to enraging, and everywhere in-between. Personally i go for the heavier sounds, focusing on instrumental proficiency or interesting formatting. Music has a great influence on me and I like that I can do other things while enjoying music. Anime: I seperate anime from regular movies/TV/cartoons for multiple reasons. A: Unlike with live-action things, anything can happen in anime. B: while this is a bit of a generalization, anime covers a lot more ground than American cartoons. Anime feeds my love not only of good stories, but of flashy and unique forms of watching. I like to see interesting forms of animation or amazing battle scenes and flashy sequences. My preference resides in unique or thought-provoking shows. Movies: I am not all that big of a movie man as there are only a few movies which manage to tickle my fancy, but those few are pretty cool and movies are great for delivering an interesting plot in a short time. Video Games: Interactivity is a nice part in entertainment and video games do a great job of helping with such. While games span across many genres and styles, there are a lot of great games and a lot of bad ones (juged on interactibility). My favorite type of games are those in the RPG genre, namely ones with interesting and strange plots. Novels: Novels take storytelling to a deeper level than anime or games by truly immersing you in the story and can give you more information than the others. I am not so much into books, but the ones I do read are selective not by genre but by personal interest. I gravitate more to mind-benders but I don't like a story to get too preachy either. Overall, my favorite form of media would have to be Music.
22.
Most Metal-Heads that remotely understand the metal genre would take that as an incredible insult. Anyways, Wintersun while great is not incredibly, incredibly amazing. Their debut album is excellent but some of the songs just get a little to long, if they were to do more songs like their first two songs on their debut album they would have it made.
Oh, I'm sorry to have insulted you with my ignorant, Avenged Sevenfold-listening-to ness. Excuse me for intruding on your matal-ness [/sarcasm] Wait, are you trying to insult Dragonforce?!
23. Dang, those guys are like Dragonforce fast! That was pretty rockin, despite the poor video quality. I'm definitely gunna check out some more stuff by this band.
24. At the very least I'd beat the **** out of him. Honestly, that's unforgivable. I know there may be a more logical way of handling things, but I'd hate to think someone like that gets punished before getting beat up. Try for both.
25.
Yeah, they announced this some time ago. I only recently got into them, but I have to say I enjoy their stuff. All I'm saying is, "The Legend of Zelda", man. --Chris
The end of that satement is "was not written by SOAD". My mom used to [line]worship[/line] be a huge SOAD fan so through her I've heard all their songs 5000 times. While I'm not to big a fan of their earlier stuff, Hypnotize and Mezmerise are great, Hypnotize being one of my all-time favorite CDs. I like their unique style and catchy songs.
