1.
Originally posted by OtakuSennen "How about I take a leaf from Syk's book and do a solid text right in front of it?"
Heh heh...leaf... I deffinitly like the new one better, mainly because of the border which actually gives it some contraints of sorts, heh. Making the faded text behind the other text was also a nice touch. :) I like where you were going with this. It sort of portrays the sadness and emptyness in Rei's heart, and I think you did very well on the background. It makes it seem like it's raining, which also helps to add to the sadness theme, and I probably wouldn't be able to make a background like that, heh; I'm not good at abstract work like that. The dark blue behind your name also is good for bringing out the white; in the other version, it seemed like it didn't stand out enough. Now onto the imrpovements that can be made. First of all, you probably could have used a higher quality picture of Rei. The text could be a little better as well, whereas the faded one in the back should be bolder and larger, and overall, there are better fonts out there. Also, you may want to make Rei's face a little more distinct as the foreground image, and by that I mean not fade the background into the side of her face as much. Overall, great banner, Sen. One of the best I've seen from you...if I have. :) Better than the one I made for you for sure.
  2. This is the entire point of the forum, so it's rather useless to make a single thread about it. If everything is cluttered in a single thread, it's very unlikely that people will take the time to see much of the banners that people post. In individual threads, it's less confusing and easier to see the main point of conversation. Besides, if everyone is going to be posting their banners..you have top consider that some people have made TONS of banners, such as myself, and uploading them all onto the internet could be an issue as well as page downloads for people on 56k. Due to all of these factors and more, I'm going to have to shut down this thread. Topic closed.
  3.
Originally posted by Baron Samedi I think that you have a done a very good job with it Syk.
It wasn't me, heh. *points to Desbreko's name* I do agree that he did a very nice job on this, though. :) The pictures are all of fairly high quality, though you could have cut out the picture on the left a little smoother. I think you did especially well on the text, if you did it yourself, since the font goes perfectly with the feel, and the shadow is a nice touch. You also made a good distinction between the background and foreground images, and overall, it's a good banner. There's really nothing particularly bad about the banner that you need to improve on other than the cut out of the foreground characters, but you can always get better with every banner. :)
  4.
Originally posted by Kieko Yeah, it is VERY simple. But it is funny, I'll give it that. Why don't you try using pictures? I'm sure there's a picture that matches the "KMP" theme. Here's some of mine that I've made for someone: Yuni: Banner: Avatar: Rikku: Banner: Avatar: I know they're a bit fuzzy and could use some work, but with a basic paint program, it's the best I can do with these ^_^! Your welcome! I bet it was easy to make, but it looks a lot better ^_^!
If you are going to show off your banenrs as well, I suggest you make a seperate thread for it. It is unlikely to be seen or commented on in this topic, and this is supposed to be for Baron's banner(s), anyway. Thanks.
  5. Well, I recently finished watching Fooly Cooly, and I thought I'd make a banner based on a certain aspect of the series. If you havn't seen it, Fooly Cooly is just a short, wacky, random anime, so that's the sort of feel I was going for when I made the banner. Comments and critique are welcome...and necessary if you plan to post. ~_^
  6.
Originally posted by Unleashed It's ok not nothing i like alot.
Unleashed, your posts thus far have indicated one thing to me -- you do not know how to present Constructive Criticism. If you keep this up, you will be banned. And warnings are out of the question now that you've turned off your PM service.
  7. Not too bad here, Sen, not bad at all, especially for a 45 minute sketch, and it being the first drawing I've seen from you. :) You did a lot of things good here. I like the way you drew the flame and his clothes, both of which I usually have trouble with on an invented character. While you may want to do a little more shading, you started out pretty good, rather than leaving it plain lines. The parts that need improvement can easily be ironed out for the next time you set out to draw. First off, either the head, or the hair on him is a little big for the rest of his body. Plus, his arms could be a little thicker, and you may want to add a few details in general to the picture. Once you make sure to fix those areas a bit, while it looks good already, it will make it look even nicer. I remember you saying that you've been doing good in Art class; have any projects from there that you could scan?
  8. Ohhh, a wallpaper. ^_^ I don't remember seeing any of those from you before, but you did very well on this one. You deffinitly did a good job in cutting Sora out from the previous background for the most part, but there are still a few bits and peices that can be polished. Also, as Shin and Dagger mentioned, he could be of a slightly higher quality, but judging by the entire wallpaper, I don't think that's entirely your fault. Some degrading seems to have taken place by whatever file you saved it as. =/ The background, while looking nice, could use a *little* more substance, but the text you used really helps to even it out. ^_^ I think the fading is fine, but perhaps 'Mei' could be moved slightly over to the right. Overall, I like the wallpaper, love, but I'm very anxious to see how well you can improve for the future. :) That's what you've been doing with your banners, and look how good you are now!
  9.
Originally posted by maladjusted PS. I live in Georgia, so maybe that's why the ways of getting it were slightly different.
There are different ways of opening it up, the channel 001 was just one way. Otherwise, you could press Menu, go down to On Demand, and go from there. :)
  10.
Originally posted by PhoenixFlame dude theres only 25 that were released the 26th was censored out of television i dunno why they released it on dvd,oh and you can rent em at block buster most likely
Ah, yes, it seems there are only 25 episodes. If episode 26 was censored out of television, I don't understand why they couldn't put it on the DVD, but oh well. As for renting it at BlockBuster, I don't know about your BlockBuster, but you should be very thankfull if it carries anime, heh.
  11. I think I must be the only person to find this anime to be extremely overrated. I originally purchased Hellsing for about 27 dollars due to great reviews from both individuals on here as well as some of my friends. I had high expectations, but few were actually met. I think one thing I could always count on was the animation. It was very well done, and fluid, I might add; it helped to create the dark atmosphere of the series, and the artists did a nice job. The story line was really what got to me. It simply didn't seem to be going anywhere, from what I saw, and wasn't very realistic on the whole. The main character's (the girl, I can't even remember her name) emotions had very little substance, and I could not picture myself in that situation acting so...unsurprised at all of these super natural occurances. Plus,
if I were heading a secret organization that killed vampires (beings that would encite panic among people), I would want to keep it top secret and go about everything in a professional manner. Here, so many people know about Hellsing, and they do little to keep it in the dark. Even the Queen of England knows, for gosh sakes. O_o I also dislike the fact that you practically cannot kill anyone, good guy or bad. It completely throws the suspense out the window, and it seems like they are fighting for fun.
That being said, though, I have to say that I did enjoy the first episode, but aparently it was very misleading for the rest of the series. I'd have to say that I found the series average at best, and that was with the subtitles on. The dub didn't really impress me at all, and this is coming from someone who has a very open mind when it comes to anime that has been dubbed. Buy it if you like, on other people's accounts, I simply didn't enjoy it as much as they did.
  12.
Originally posted by PhoenixFlame well i have all 25 episodes from the first series, the christmas special, and episodes of love hina again but not the spring special :S,i dunno where you could get them from though oh i remember you can get em off kazaa lite in the search thing...it takes forever though... it took me like 1 or 2 weeks to get all the episodes theres no need to buy the episodes,in every single episode i have it says at the beginning "if you payed for this you were ripped off" as in the ones sold in shops are ripoffs but i only have the subtitled episodes *shrug and sigh*
A couple things to address here. First of all, I believe that there are 26 episodes in Love Hina, as I own the series subbed and last time I checked, it wasn't 25. Secondly, OtakuBoards does not promote the illegal downloading of any file off the internet, much less an entire anime series. Please think twice before advising members to break the law. As I said in the aforementioned statement, I do own Love Hina (on DVD rather than illegal downloading, I might add), and for the genre that it promotes (i.e. comedy, romance), I like it a lot and love how the producers exagerate much of the scenes, like how Keitaro, the main character, is often punched into the sky. The anime is very comical much of the series, but then it gets deep into the romance aspect at times and really helps to progress the story line. There is a lot of character developement, as well. All of the characters, especially Keitaro, mature greatly, and though the end still leaves a few questions for you to answer on your own, it generally ties it together for the most part. The animation found in Love Hina is very fluid and clear, and it helps to set the comedic mood of the series. As for the OVAs, I have yet to see either of them, which I will have to look into and get one of these days. Overall, I found the series to my enjoyment, though I deffinitly prefer other genres. It's not my favorite series, but it is good for what it's worth.

    Noir

I just watched the second episode a few minutes ago, and I really liked it, considering it was the first episode of it that I've seen. I have generally heard positive recommendations about the anime from friends, so I was willing to give it a chance. The story is very deep and I can understand it getting confusing at times, but I think this is mainly due to the excruciating ammount of detail put into it. It plays out as if this is something that could actually happen in real life, and I was very impressed. None of the action scenes were drawn out, the story had a chance to develop a lot, none of the dialogue was cheesy, the animation was amazing, and simply put, it was believable. It left a good taste in my mouth, and I'm anxious to see more. :)
  14. Well, I know one thing. You should deffinitly ask Adam for a position on theOtaku. We could deffinitly use someone like you this dedicated to reviews; this one here is very informative. ^_~ I have yet to see this new OVA, but my friend is most likely going to get it soon. He has the entire Fist of the North Star series, as well as the original movie, so he'll probably want this too. I liked the first movie a lot, as well as what I've seen from the series, and it will be awesome to view it in this newer animation with the general story line. Are you planning on doing a review on the New Fist of the North Star OVA 2?
  15. I think he's leaving it up to us to start a new question. And that I most certainly will. ^.^; Q: In the anime Berserk, how many different swords does Gutts end up using (not including his childhood or the one given to him by Zod)? Anyone who's seen the anime through to the end should know the answer. :)
  16. Well, I'm not sure if this would go here or not, but my brother was messing around with our Comcast 'On Demand' feature today, and he found the Anime Network that allowed you to play any anime out of a large list in different categories at any time, free of cost, and even lets you pause and rewind and such. I'm unaware if this is what they have been talking about all along when referring to the Anime Network (rather than it being an actual channel, and this On Demand is a step before it), but I felt that I needed to let you all know. :) To get it, you first must have Comcast Digital Cable with On Demand, and go to channel 001. Scroll down the list until you come to another page of listings, and in the top right corner you should see a link entitled The Cutting Edge. Go there, and then in the top right corner of that should be The Anime Network, and simply choose from there. I've been going absolutely crazy on this, heh, and have seen about 3 different anime episodes so far. And for the record, I live in Maryland, in case that matters. EDIT: I talked to my friend about it, and aparently he's known for a while. *shakes fist at him* Unfortunately, he says that if too many people use the On Demand feature at once, it goes down, and they switch the epsidoes every few weeks. But other than that, it still sounds promising to me. ^.~
  17.
Originally posted by Azure_Skies Those are really good. You make me feel bad! WA~ /\Azure_Skies/\
Please try to expand a little further in your post. When critiquing artwork in Art & Design, it is important to make your comments and critique as detailed as possible not only to give the artist feedback, but to allow them the chance to improve and get better. A generic comment such as this is inacceptable.
  18. I actually recently purchased the anime for a friend, due to the fact that his parents were sort of against him ordering on the internet, but I still havn't seen any of it myself. He's already gotten past the first 4 DVDs or so out of 6, and hopefully when he finished we'll be able to watch it at anime club some time. Until then, I can only wait, but by all of your accounts it sounds like a decent anime. ^_^ Maybe I'll convince him to let me borrow it soon..
  19.
Originally posted by Metatron I think I sent my critiques on the banner via PM o_O PM me when you're done with it. Sorry bout being picky
It would be appreciated if you post the critiques here as well, if you plan to make a comment in this thread. If not, then simply don't post at all since it isn't going to contribute any more to the discussion, and if you sent her a PM, she'll see it. ^_~
  20.
Originally posted by Magdalena Doesn't mean that you aim is to not do as good as your others... Isn't it a good thing to always challenge yourself and try to do better? I asked her a simple question, she answered it. There was no need for anything else, because it wasn't a personal attack. You really needn't defend her, she's a big girl. She explained what she meant, and that was that. I know your "married" to her and all, but pick your battles and not get up in arms about stupid crap. I really don't see how it was flaming or was a personal attack. I just didn't understand something, and I questioned it. I got my answer, I'm happy. And again, I apologize if it was taken as a personal attack, because it wasn't meant to be.
This isn't based on who she is, if that is somehow the basis of your argument. O_o Your sarcastic comment was out of line, regardless of who it was towards. End of story. Who says she wasn't challenging herself..? She was just trying a new technique to see how it went; you are the one who somehow came up with the idea that she wasn't trying on the banner.
Originally posted by Mei I have to admit though, this is not my best work, nor was it supposed to be.
Doesn't sound to me like she wasn't trying on the banner, she just wasn't going for her best work time. Is it not practicing if you are using a new technique in your banner? Trying to do your best consists of putting together a bunch of techniques that you know and really putting your heart into it. It would be very hard to get any better if you never try something new. But now this thread is getting a little cluttered with these comments, and this is not a thread at which to debate, so I'll ask you not to continue this. I don't want to close this thread and prevent more comments on her banner.
  21. You can find a more direct answer to your question here. This thread doesn't really belong in the Art section either, so I'll close it.
  22.
Originally posted by Magdalena For the record, I didn't personally attack her. She just said that she didn't try to make the banner her best work, but if she only used it for a learning experience, then I apologize for my "personal attack"
Then tell me why, in your defense, she would strive to become worse at creating banners simply by making one that isn't as good as some of her other pieces? When you make art, you learn from your mistakes, and this is what we are trying to do in the art section -- help them improve. She knows that it isn't her best banner, but she originally made the banner to try a new sort of theme and see how you all like it. If you were going to make constructive criticism from the beginning, you should have given her a few tips on the font she used that you thought was "bad", and that doesn't mean simply stating what's wrong with it, that's giving suggestions on other types of fonts, as well (i.e. "You may want to try using a gloomier font, like something scratchy to match the image"). When you said 'So you strive to do worse?' I took it to come off as 'So you create banners in order to make them more crappy?' If that isn't flaming your opinion, I don't know what is, lol.
  23.
Originally posted by Magdalena So basically you're saying that it's ok to have a low quality banner? The font also doesn't match with the "darkness" of the image
It's really not a low quality image at all. If you look closely, you'll notice that this is the way it was drawn; the scratchiness was intended to give off a dark a surreal look. In fact, the picture quality is quite good (like all of the images you use in banners, Mei ^_~), you're just confusing grittiness with quality. As for the text, I'd have to say that while there's room for improvement in font and the colors surrounding it, it does seem to give off a ghastly look with the slight transparency and thin lines at places.
Originally posted by Magdalena So you strive to do worse?
This is something that will not be tolerated on OtakuBoards. Personal attacks are subject for possible ban warnings/bans, and here you are deliberately assuming very little of her on which you know cannot possibly be true. I don't want to see this from you again. Going back to the subject at hand, I like the banner as always, hun. ^_^ Although this isn't my favorite piece of yours, it is still very well done, and I swear, one of these days I'll be asking you for advice on banners. ~.^
  24.
Originally posted by Blindchild02 hm... its alrite, not my cup of tea. but its ok....
Please try to put more into your critiquing then a simple, "it's alright." When you comment on an art piece, you have to be much more specific. Say what you like, what you don't like, and what can use improvement. Otherwise, the artist doesn't know how they can get better for the future, and your comments about it being "okay" can't help him/her. Thanks.
