Originally posted by Rhys Mayiessen Ahem...the moon is not backwards I know that for a fact thank you very much.
It looks backwards to me.. Also, yes, the moon could use some work over and above facing the correct way. It seems sort of bulky where it shouldn't be, contradicting the screen shot's smooth transition from that degree of thickness on down. There are also some very thin white lines at color edges, but that isn't something that you should worry too much about. Other than that, though, I think you did a very nice job. I always like how sharp and smooth the colors are on GC work, and this piece is no different. For the most part, it seems that you made all of his body parts the right shape and size, save the things that other people have already mentioned, and though I can't say I've ever watched the show, I like it. :)

I read this at the end of last year for 10th grade required reading, and I thought it was a pretty good book for something we had to read in class; much better than Old Man and the Sea, hehehe...man, I hated that book. -__- Anyway, for those who havn't read the novel, it's about this young girl named Scout who lives with her dad (whom she calls Atticus) and her brother (I believe his name is Jem), and basically grew up as a tom boy. That being said, she hates to wear dresses, is always picking pights at school, and loves running around and getting messy. The book is from her perspective at a very young and curious age, hitting on a particular theme about "not knowing how someone feels until you crawl in their skin and walk around in it." She and her brother, as well as a young boy named Dill, go on adventures in their town throughout the book, as well as go through many important character developments. I really like how enjoyable this book is, and how all of the incidents throughout the book are random, but in each they develop the story a little more, until the end which doesn't quite completely tie up the novel, but I don't want to spoil anything for you. If some of you are wondering, the reason it's called "To Kill a Mocking Bird" is because the main character, Scout, is told by her father that she may shoot anything except a mocking bird, because all they do is provide good music and it is therefore a sin to kill them. Phew, I have a better memory than I thought.. I'm sure you'll like this book, Rachel, and feel free to talk to me about it anytime if you're ever wondering about something or just want to dicuss it in general. ^_^

Sorry to bring back a slightly old topic, heh, but I just wanted to share what's been happening with my anime club so far. Well, we finally got a sponsor, and it looks like he's going to stick with us for the rest of the year. He's not much of a fan of anime, in fact, he thinks it's all about cartoon porn or something, but at least we found someone, and he was literally the last on the list. This year, we'll finally be able to make it into an official club, yay! We had the teacher talk to the principal and everything was worked out, we made an official time and place for the club, we had the teacher work it out for the media center to let us pick up a TV on a cart every meeting, the president is making posters to put up around the school, and we came up with an amazing "mission statement" that may help a few of you out: Animé club allows students the opportunity to explore contemporary and traditional Japanese culture through the art form of modern Japanese animation. With it's unique artistic style and storytelling heavily influenced by Asian culture, animé is a form of entertainment encompassing all possible film genres and viewer demographics. Other than that, all we need to do is send letters home to the parents of people who go to the club, saying something about how the school does not pre-view these cartoons to check it for content, and they won't be monitering, so it will make sure the parents understand the possibilty of mature content. I'm not sure if we're writing that or the principle is, I'm just trying to do anything to make this club official, heh. We'll hopefully even have announcements.

Hehe, I started using this one word with my friends when my brother messed up on saying "unique" about a month ago. It's "newuique", which basically switches the first letters of the first two syllables. It's kind of funny when you say it. o.o; I also tried making nicknames for my friends to keep with the "izzle" words they use very often. I came up with Frizzle, Wizzle, Drizzle, and my name, Gizzle (jizzle). They're all off the heavy fo' sheazy. And yes, they're all very newuique. I'm sure there are other words that I use, but I can't think of them at the moment.

Er...what does this have to do with Art? Normally music would go in Music, Movies & TV, but as it's anime it would be in the Anime Lounge. Of course, if you just think about it, I'm sure you can find this somewhere on the net if you google it. Have fun! ^_^ Topic closed.

I'm surprised poisontongue isn't posting here, hmm. I think I need to address the fact that you should not be discussing here whether or not you want pt for mod. Critique the artwork, first of all, and at the most make a small side note about it.

All of you are basically saying the same things over and over. "It's a good banner, great job. Keep up the awsome work" etc. Please put more thought into your posts or else this thread will be closed, and I wouldn't want Black_Snake to suffer because of other people. Read the stickies at the top of the forum, and improve your criqitues!

Art can n~e one tell me a free pic hosting site for my new banner?
Syk3 replied to Alter~Ego's topic in Creative Works
That picture is much too big to be a banner, sorry. A good hosting site is 250free.com, but let's not base the whole discussion around that. Instead, please focus on commenting and critiquing the picture Alter put up. -
Originally posted by Alter~Ego what is the size requirement n~e way.
The size requirement is 500 pixels wide by 100 pixels high for banners. As for the banner you made, nothing is coming up. There is no banner in your signature, nor did you attach one, so there is nothing for anyone to comment or critique on. I've seen some of your posts around the forum, and I suggest reading the rules carefully. Please read the forum at the top of the main page, and improve your grammer and capitolization for an easier read. Try to put more thought into your posts, and take a look around to get an idea of what is expected from you. And seeing as you already have a banner thread with an attachment, I'm going to close this.

I see not many people chose Samus as their favorite character, hmm. I'm very disapointed in all of you! jk As said, my "best" Super Smash Bros. Melee character is Samus, who I exclusively play as nearly all of the time in battle, so I'd say that I have gotten rather good with her. In the previous game, my character for the first few months after I got it was Link, but I later moved on to Samus, and she's basically been my character ever since. When I first got Melee, I wanted a change, so I went with Roy, but his attacks mainly deal with close-hand fighting, which is often too risky, and I started using Samus again. I don't really concentrate on any certain aspect of Samus, but instead use a variety of moves when I'm playing, so I might grab you with my grappler beam and throw you after a couple hits, shoot a missle at you, then hit you off the edge with a strong power hit. I really find Samus to be an all-around good character. She's fairly fast, has a decent amount of long range attacks, can hit pretty strong when up close, has an extended grab, and can jump pretty high, especially when using her usefull Up B screw attack. Other characters that I like to use, but for nothing too serious of a battle, are Roy (despite focusing on his short range) and Link (sometimes). I usually stick with Samus every time anyway, but this is just in case I'm playing with friends who like to switch their character every round. While we're on the topic of characters, who do you think is the cheapest? I've personally always regarded Kirby as being sort of cheap, mainly because my brother used to play as him, and I fought him anough to notice particular points that gave him the advantage. He clearly has the second, if not the most jumps of any character in the game. Falling off the edge? Pokemon after you? No problem, he can simply jump away. He is also extremely short, short enough for a few attacks to go over his head without ducking, and he has that invincible rock move that leaves him unpenetrable, unless of course if you're close enough to grab him. And do I even need to get into swallowing people? He can use anyone's B move, for gosh sakes! My friend, on the other hand, insists without a doubt that Link is the cheapest character because, according to him, his attacks override every other character's. But yeah, I havn't played Melee in a good while, and I should go down and challenge my brother or something. Maybe I'll see how many Samus level 9s I can take on without any items, hmm..

While not going into Nintendo sale factors and shipping costs and such, as I admittidly do not have any knowledge in those areas, I can tell you Toys R Us and Amazon might possibly be getting more money by lowering the GameCube's price down to $99. Unless someone is aiming towards buying a greatest hit game (or whatever they call it on GCN) for $20, they will still be forking over $150 just for one game along with the system, and that's not even including the purchase of a mandatory memory card that came free with the previous $150 bundle. Looks to me like a cheap sales gimmick to trick consumers into paying more for the previous bundle. It is interesting, however, that with $100, you may be deciding on whether to get a GameCube or a GameBoy Advance SP, heh.

I just took a screen shot, and here it is, in honor of a new anime that I got for my birthday. Let's see if you can guess the name. I also left it in an upload so that this page could load a bit faster; I mean -- some people! Just kidding, heh.
Originally posted by Xyandar heres my finished banner tell me what you think okay??
Please make a seperate thread for your banners. You are filling up someone else's topic with banners that will likely not even be noticed now. I'm not too big a fan of the first banner. It's good for what it is, but you simply cut out one picture, and made some designs in the background, but I do have to give you props for using the colors from the picture to make the color fading. On the second set of banners, I'd have to choose the first one. I like the seperation by the black border the best out of all of them, and I recommend finishing it up on the right as well as underneath the color fading bar. Despite the fact that they may be plain, I do find the last few banners good "eye candy." Other than the one of Jim from Outlaw Star, the pictures are all of good quality, and the borders are fairly proeffessional, though obviously to base someone around their borders is absurd. In any case, you captured the scenes well, and I was actually thinking of doing a banner similar to the one I have now but with some Samurai X in them, like you did with the one that's currently in your sig, heh. Just try a little harder and put a little more work into the banners, and with some practice, you'll become a lot better. ^_^

I can see them just fine. You could have always hosted them off here, heh. I really like where you're going with this, my love. ^_^ It's great how you make her body part of the banner, and her face part of the avatar, because it just fits so well. The border isn't anything special this time, but it is nice to take a break, and the black line goes with everything. The pictures are of high quality, and the color of the text borrows from something in the image, which are both very cruical to accomplish in a banner or avatar. I do honestly like the banner a little more than the avatar, however, mainly because the text in the avatar is hard to make out at a glance. A lighter color would probably do better. Overall, they go down as another great combination from you, hun; you just keep getting better and better. Oh, and is it a coincidence that most girls in your banners have redish brown hair with lovely green eyes? ~_^ *snuggles*
Originally posted by Alter~Ego how do you make a banner n~e way?
Please refer to the stickies at the top of the forum, which can help you out with this and other things you may have missed...
Originally posted by Alter~Ego i like it ;)
...such as this rule. You MUST post more than just "I like it" because it does no one any good for you to give them compliments on something that's good when they don't even know which aspect of it is good, and how they can possibly improve. Boo's post is a perfect example of what is expected from everyone, and being precise is what will save you from being banned. ~_^

I suppose you mean the banner in your signature, which you should instead be posting in Art & Design. This forum you see is only for requesting banners, not showing them off, and even so, you should rightfully give credit to the person who made your banner, in this case, er...well, see your original request thread; it's not making much sense to me. O_o I'll move this for now.
Originally posted by Meteora Wow that's an awsome drawing. I like it a lot. You may say that it looks bad, but I think its great. Keep posting them.
Meteora, I'm going to tell you again, and I'm going to keep telling you until you use what I say in your future posts. You must expand on all of your critiques and comments on the artwork in the Art and Design forums. Saying that a drawing is awsome siply won't cut it anymore; explain what parts of it appeal to you, what can be improved in it, etc. I see that you have been posting a lot, but try not to make yourself do such in every single thread. If you can't critique it, then just don't post. I'll give you an example of an acceptable critiquing below. Your art isn't that bad, but there is always room for improvement. ^_^ The shading, for one, really isn't as bad as you say it is. I like how everything blends together so nicely, and it's really a highlight of the picture. The only shading that could be done just a little better is the shading around his hair strands in the left of the picture, the part around the emblem on his head which is rather light, and his ear which is portrayed sort of flat. One part of the picture that I noticed needs the most improvement are the line shapes. Everything seems so square-ish, and you should try to round everything off better. Also, it seems that his right eyebrow (our left) is backwards or something, at least in comparison to the other. Overall, it's a decent image, I'd say. You can make out everything just fine, and he looks like what he's supposed to, there are just a few things that you can do to make it look slightly better. :)

Hurricane Isabel went past my area on Thursday, and by the next day it had completely blown over and was suny without a cloud in the sky. All day Thursday there was a lot of really strong wind, as well as rain, so they closed school on both Thursday and Friday just to be safe. My teachers gave us extra homework in case school was closed, yay, and when I got home I was put to work to try to get all of the outside furniture into the house on Wednesday. Thursday night, I was forced to bring a sleeping bag into my parents room and sleep there because of my room being close to all of the trees which could possibly blow over. The next morning, we luckily sustained minor damage. No trees fell down, save a small branch in the front yard, we had a small cut in one of the screens of our gazeba, and the house is on sort of a hill which prevented flooding from being an issue. We didn't have many electricity problems, either, due to the fact that our power lines are underground, and when it would go out, it would only be for one second at a time. So yeah, we got hit, but it wasn't anything major in our neighborhood.
Originally posted by OtakuSennen But Newtype.. I've never read any of it, so what is it actually like? Is there manga in it, or is it just a right-to-left magazine kinda like Anime Insider?
NewType is a large right-to-left magazine with many articles as well as reviews on anime, manga, games, and a few movies. They have large contests, a manga sample in the middle, and it comes with an anime DVD in every issue. It's really a great magazine, which is why it costs so much money to subscribe (around $90 for one year).

I remember seeing this one anime in anime club; I'm not sure what it was called, but the dubbing and anime itself were so bad that we turned it off after the first episode and just watched some wholesome Cowboy Bebop. This anime had a short energetic guy with long hair who ran around a lot and had the stupidest, most horrible voice ever. It's like that high-pitched type that made him sound like he was intentionally trying to sound retarded or something. Gah, it was just so bad, not to mention the anime was pretty corney anyway. If anyone knows the title of this, I'd like to warn all of you to never watch it, expecially dubbed. I also recently started watching the Samurai X movies, aka Kenshin, and the voice actors are completely different. I havn't taken much time to try to get used to it, but I found it sort of annoying, plus Yahiko's voice was a heck of a lot deeper than Sano's or Kenshin's. Maybe I'm being over-picky on this after just finishing watching the entire Kenshin series, but I'm watching it in Japanese anyway.
-
My friend gets NewType, so I just mooch off of him when he brings it to school. Like SA said, the magazine is very expensive, hence the reason why I didn't buy it in the first place. It is a really good magazine, though, what with anime news, TV listings, articles, manga, and a DVD. If I had the money, I'd get it for sure.
-
I have been debating this question for a while, but only recently have I come to a final conclusion. Lately, as anime becomes more and more involved in my life, I've actually been choosing my friends around it rather than the other way around...that is, only talking about anime with the people that like it. Maybe it's a coincidence, and maybe not, but it seems that all of my good friends enjoy anime to some extent. A few people that I used to regard as friends over the past few years I have grown apart from, one of the reasons being that they do not like anime and will gang up on me about it with some of their other friends. So basically, the people that I do regard as friends in real life, both in my old neighborhood and my new one, all know and like anime a lot. This doesn't necessarily refer to people I talk to once in a while if I'm in their class or something; I'm talking about good friends. Yes, I know it's sad.
