I'm not sure I completely follow. Are these character introductions through stories, physical descriptions, or drawings? What do you mean by "toss them back and forth"? What sequence of pages are you talking about? Where does the subject tie in? How are storylines continued, though writing or drawing? Are artists supposed to add to each others work, or put the characters into new situations, or what? Hopefully this will help others who might want to participate. :)

That sounds good so far, I like the idea a lot. I'm not sure about the name, however, if only because it doesn't sound Japanese enough to me for the background that she has. ;) I'm thinking that since this is more about story development rather than critiquing pictures drawn, and the manga elements that this project holds, that this thread may work better in Manga Workshop than Art Studio. Good luck!
I honestly think that if you say that you're a __(fill in the blank)__, act like it. There are some people who think that a lot of whatever __(blank)__ said is outdated, but it's not too hard to bring older philosphies and teachings to modern day. We do it with the Constitution all the time (not the best example I admit, but it was the first to come to mind). Anyway, picking and choosing what you want to believe it kind of stupid. I do realize that there are divisions in religions, and I'm okay with that, but you would still be a __(blank)__. Picking from multiple religions isn't that good, because you're refusing the parts you don't like. This isn't your dinner. I think that's why a lot less people are becoming less religous, and more aligning themselves with the values of certain religions while not committing themselves fully to that religion. All this to say, if you claim you're a __(blank)__, act like it. Don't sit around and pick and choose from anything while you say you have committed yourself to religion or ideology or philosophy.
Sure, if you officially declare yourself to be of a certain religion, that's fine. I don't have a problem with people who are in a religion and believe what that church teaches. I'm just saying it might not be the best option if, in the process, you're sacrificing your creativity and individuality. What's wrong with refusing parts you don't believe if you don't decide to be utterly committed to one? Surely people are allowed to think and come to their own conclusions through study. One last quick thing I wanted to say was that it would be hypocritical to think of one committing themselves to just one ideology or philosophy. If you're searching for knowledge and truth, then that entitles you to change your mind, make exceptions, or borrow from whatever you want as much as necessary.
Syk3, That still doesn't explain how wanting something to be true simply makes it true. Logically speaking, if God does exist, and he did create hell, and sent down a book to humans stating so, how does not believing in hell suddenly make it dissappear? There's a big difference between hopes and reality. Ofcourse, if you didn't believe in any specific religion, then that would mean that you would also believe they are man-made. And that would make the teachings one accepts from each religion simply based on human philosophies. Why would God (or gods) send down so many different relgions if they contradict one another? Isn't religion what people believe God wants from us? How he wants us to worship him? For instance, the only reason I follow Islam, is becuase I believe the Quran is the word of God verbatim. And the reason I believe this is because to me, the book itself is a miracle. It has divine qualities. I can feel it in every word I read from it. Not only that, I also believe that the book has not been altered by humans. Now, maybe not everyone feels the way I do about the Quran (for others its the Bible, the Torah, etc), but since I feel this way about the Quran, would it not be logical for me to follow its teachings? How would not liking one aspect make it not true? Just because I don't like hell, that reality would cease to exist? I'd say the only logical alternative to following any specific religion is simply to believe in some sort of creator, and perhaps you could assume some of the attributes that creator would have (love, mercy, power). And perhaps that righteous people will be rewarded and the wicked will be punished. But that would be that. Only then can a human philosophy of what is right and wrong be put in place. Religions tell us what God thinks is right or wrong, so the only reason not to follow any of these religions is if you think they are not what God thinks.
It's not about wanting things to be true. It's about discovering for yourself as a free man and not a whipped mule, free of stubbornness what things are true or even what they mean to be true. If it means changing your mind, go ahead, but don't confuse this with any wishful thinking. By your logic, I would first have to acknowledge the premise that God exists. But what if I do not? Then your argument ceases to apply. Of course something that exists in the noumenal (actual, as opposed to a human experienced world) wouldn't disappear by simply not believing in it. But some people want to discover truth for themselves with logical support instead of having a book tell them. Therefore the truth of the bible is also in question, and as such some desire further proof. What else do you have to give me? It's not necessarily one or the other here. Perhaps if one does not believe in a sole religion, the individual believes that each may have gotten some correct with help from a higher being, but not entirely. Mix and match what you can see the logical proof in. You tell me why God would send down so many religions. Which is the right one, and what if none of them are right? What if God didn't send them down and they were created by man, like you brought up? Yes, religion is what people believe does God's bidding. Your beliefs of truth to the Quran are your own. This does not require me or anyone else to follow Islam as you do. But it's not about denying it out of like, but denying out of lack of proof. No one should accept what they think are the good aspects of religion (God loves you, you can go to Heaven), and then deny what they don't like (you can go to Hell, God is angry). I form my beliefs around the basis of arguable truth. I'm saying that it's possible that some religions note particular things that are arguable and I may agree with the premises. But you're correct in saying that I may not believe that this is what God wishes. I think it's more important to become excellent in life for your own reasons before worrying about what may happen in the afterlife. While it's logical to assume that human function is what we should be doing, God's bidding is too unknowing for myself to use as an actual goal.

Well when you declare yourself completely one religion, you're kind of thrown into all of their beliefs and practices and so forth, and seems to me as if you're basing your beliefs on your religion and not your religion on your beliefs. That makes much less sense to me than if someone were to discover and create their own beliefs based on studying many religions, seeing which individual parts they agree with most and holding a self-religion, if you will. That way you can include your own thought, your own philosophy, your own morals, your own beliefs, your own everything; you'll be able to argue your side and provide proof for believing what you do, rather than someone telling you what you believe and you have to sort of deal with it. :D Some Christians will believe in the bible but not take it literally, and then simply fill in the rest, and that might be what you're seeing. And now I'd like to cite a quote from a book I'm currently reading called Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. "To doubt the literal meaning of the words of Jesus or Moses incurs hostility from most people, but ... if Jesus or Moses were to appear today, unidentified, with the same message that he spoke many years ago, his mental stability would be challenged. This isn't because what Jesus or Moses said was untrue or because modern society is in error but simply because the route they chose to reveal to others has lost relevance and comprehensibility." -Robert Pirsig

Hey all. I'm actually sort of surprising myself by making this thread, lol, because other than the occasional post I've pretty much decided that I'm going to take a little break from OB until I've largely developed a personal philosophy that I can then force onto others. :p But then I thought, "why not help to form these ideas by sharing and considering with others the books that I'm reading to help me do this?" I finished the book Six Questions of Socrates a couple weeks ago, but honestly while some of the information was useful in considering my own opinions, I didn't find it to be that great of a book, mainly due to the fact that the author seemed quick to throw in arbitrary and technicality points against many of the great philosophers. lol The final note that he left on, that an excellent person is defined by extremely fluctuating virutes, felt like he was saying virtues are nonexistant, and didn't sit well with me at all; I concluded that he was incorrect, and the being excellent was not always the same as having to do the right thing (which is where moderation comes into the virtues). But enough about that book, here I want to discuss the one in the title of this thread. I actually am in the process of reading it and have yet to finish it, but the more I think about it the better for development, I believe. I'd really like to know if anyone here has read the novel and what you guys thought of it, and then possibly discuss a few of the points that Pirsig was making along the way. Some of the ones I've thought about so far have dealt with:

Technology and organization in the world today.
Ghosts relating to our comprehension of ideas.
Classical and romantic understanding.
The nature of empiricism in knowledge.
Kant's theoretical perspective.
Lack of faith and fanatic natures.
Getting rid of grades and degrees in college.
The nature of reality.
Quality.
For those who have not read the book, it's a nonfiction novel first published in 1974 that explores many philosophical ideas, while at the same time about a father (the author) and his son on a summer vacation riding across Northern U.S. on a motorcycle. It's a very interesting book, and the subtitle does good to describe its purpose: An Inquiry into Values. I highly recommend that anyone interested in philosophy elements pick this book up.

Request Naruto Banner Request (pics Included)
hi! I HAVE MADE A DECISION![/size'] :D IWANT TO MAKE MY OWN NARUTO BANNEER AND AVATAR :D :D . BUT I DONT KNOW HOW TO MAKE MY OWN :animeswea :animeswea . If any one could please tell me I WOULD BE VERY GREATFULL :D :animeswea THANKS
Welcome to OtakuBoards, angel! I suggest that the first thing that you do is to read the rules, and note where it says that when posting, your comments should have relevancy to the thread at hand. ;) In this case, we're not talking about Naruto in general, nor should you request a piece of artwork here. If you don't have anything to add for Tical getting a banner and avatar, then please do not post. :) Many of your questions, however, can be found in stickies on the main art forums. I also notice that your avatar is the one that White had made for Tical, so please remove it until such time that you get permission from the original creator. These things aren't completely up for grabs. AND PLEASE DON'T TYPE IN ALL CAPS, BECAUSE IT'S VERY ANNOYING TO HAVE TO READ. ~_^ -
Our policy here is that basically anything that it's possible to check on with a search engine isn't a worthy thread, mainly due to the fact that it will generate very little discussion. So my suggestion is to check Google for these sites - all the luck to you. :)

I think that we're getting off on the wrong track if we take this thread to be about "who has it worse" when discussing the conditions people live under compared to the initial poster. Of course Kaise won't win any battles here, so don't try to viciously attack him for it. The point of replying to this topic is to give advice on how he should deal with his father, even despite other things he or other members may say. Otherwise, no progress will be made. On that same note, Kaise, you should consider and take to heart a few of these suggestions before deciding that they will not work. If we're not working to utilize advice, then this thread is useless. And the only way we can give good advice is if you're truthful about these things in a direct sort of way. With that said, the biggest problem that we have stems from the fact that we know very little about the entire situation. In fact, if you want to get technical, we don't know anything about it, only that you told us these things, mainly indirectly outside of your feelings of anger and hate for your father. Feelings such as these very often embelish a story to support fueling these obsessive thoughts, so it's a never-ending problem that we may have caught you on the tail end of. I'm not saying you intentionally made some of this up, but perhaps you should take a step back and confirm the truth here before allowing people to immediately jump on your side supporting things such as taking the situation to the cops. If the problems truly are that bad, if your father hits you or seriously abuses you, then by all means take the advice. But don't intentionally lead people on in the wrong direction of this case, because not only should advice such as that only be given after a careful observance of the evidence, but that would make this thread utterly pointless if the information for the basis of the advice was false to begin with. EDIT: I agree wholeheartedly with Chabichou. We're all human here; acting with this inferiority complex claiming your superiority over others shows more about you than it does of the ones you put down. From what I understand, it seems that you're acting a lot like this stubborn father Kaise is attempting to escape from. And if that's the case.. then I can't really blame him for wanting to make this topic.
That has to be the most stupid thing I've ever read on the internet, and I've read about PABAAH and people praising Loonatics Unleashed.
Hey, thanks for the insult buddy, I really appreciate it. ;) If there's really nothing in your life to keep you from putting other people down, then you must be in a pretty bad situation yourself, so no one should bother taking your advice. This is especially for someone who claims that running away is a good thing to do. Kaise has reason to believe that both running away and killing himself are going to make the pain go away, though he has apparently chosen that he'd rather live through this ordeal. I admit that I probably should have provided a little more information to support this statement, because jackasses like you are going off with the wrong impression. Let me slow it down for you a bit. What is the problem? Keisha is angry at his father for his parenting, which causes feelings of hurt and sadness. What does he want? Naturally, he wants these to go away. How can he accomplish this? Killing himself would cause him to no longer feel these things, and therefore a solution has been found. I'm not saying that this is the only solution, a good solution, or a long-term solution. It's obvious that him killing himself will actually create more problems than to clear things up, not to mention I care for the sanctity of human life, so I do not recommend this course of action and neither should others reading this thread. What he should do is clear these problems out by talking to his father and making him listen. The temporary solution that killing himself poses is that he won't feel his feelings, much less anything else. I know it sounds kind of silly out of context, but do you understand now? :) EDIT: Perhaps what I was initially thinking of was a "permanent solution to a temporary problem", but I think I was able to sort of make it fit anyway. haha :p EDIT AGAIN: I've been thinking about it, and came to the conclusion that it's possible that we have different definitions of "solution". When I said temporary, I would have been as amused as you were if I saw solution to mean the same thing as result. If he killed himself, it's not like he's going to come back. lol We can obviously agree on that much. However, in the context I was using the word 'solution,' I intended it to mean "that which results as a logical answer to the problem." To that end, I believed the solution would cease once his family discovers what he has done, despite the hurt disappearing for himself. The hurt present would dip down a little, and then shoot back up, likely higher than before. Hence, temporary. Of course, my definition could be wrong, and therefore I have been attempting to fight a losing battle. lol But I feel that if I may be wrong, I'd like to know why this was so. Sorry for losing my temper earlier, and hopefully this makes sense. ^_^

I haven't read much in this thread, but this dispute seems to be between you and your father, and despite any advice you'll ultimately have to come up with the way to handle it best because you're aware of the entire situation. The only side we have to go on is yours, and that's a major flaw in this case. Just realize that running away or killing yourself is only a temporary solution, and in fact two unwise solutions at that, so you must focus on and attack the core and not look back. Try to change the underlying beliefs that fuel these hateful feelings, both in yourself and with your father, or they will continue to happen and may even become worse. Make him listen, tell him what's wrong, and if you truly believe that you are in the right, you won't let the issue go until it's resolved. Good luck.

While this thread does have to do with drawing, since it's primarily manga I think I'll move it to Manga Workshop.
-
It would be best if you instead lached onto particular threads requesting artwork. This forum is intended for people to ask for things, so the entire thing actually acts as what you are making this thread. ~_^

Looks like this thread has run its course. :) Hurray, hurrah, hurroo. And to prevent further spam..
And what's a MS paint? Sorry, I'm a little dumb on these things. I'm new. Newer than a... a... a new day! Yeah! That's new! LOL! Ok, I'm not funny either. I scatter around the place. So, what's the MS paint thingy?? :confuse2:
Better PM someone and ask rather than clutter this thread, because as it is now, it's rather off-topic. :p

Looks like your link is messed up. If you didn't know.. well, just giving you a heads up. lol

In the future, please use the Edit button for adding what you need without double posting. ;)
Can someone make me Gambit banner??E-mail it at pimpjoe_esb@yahoo.com Thanks so much. I need one.
Hey pimp joe, feel free to make your own thread for asking for a banner. Don't worry about them emailing you, you can get it in the thread itself.

Hmm, it doesn't look to me like this thread is going anywhere productively. For the most part all we're getting are replies like "yeah I have an account, it's pretty cool." Perhaps you have to be more specific than art sites in general, or even get a constructive discussion going about a part of deviantArt that you enjoy. Until then.. thread closed.
-
I just wanted to remind everyone to try to stay on topic here; personal conversation can be done through PM.
-
If you're looking for help with manga, you might want to try our Manga Workshop forum. They could help you out a bit. :) Thread moved.

This thread really isn't getting anywhere. You could have uploaded the image here to begin with, like you aparently did on the other site, but you didn't. And now we have this. I'm just going to close this now before it gets even further out of hand.
I really love your banner and the wallpaper thing you did!! You make really good banners and avatars!! I was wondering if you could make me a riku avatar and a sephiroth banner because, well, just because I really like the way you do things!!
Clouds, please read the sticky in this forum on Constructive Criticism. Your posts need to be expanded in order for artists to take something away from what you're saying and apply it to their work. Also, requests should be made through PM if you want a specific person to make your banner, or in the Art by Request subforum otherwise.
