Post Count

    Well, I had remembered people mentioning it shortly after the deletion of the Newbie Lounge. When I looked, I found this thread, which was most likely the one I was thinking about.

    Post Count

    I recently talked with someone who swears that their post count has gone up 160 or so. Here's the conclusion that we came to.. You'll remember that when the Newbie Lounge was deleted, there were people who complained of post count loss, even though you, James, assured them that it couldn't have been because of the deletion of the forum. Coincidentally, this same person tells me that she lost 160 posts when this took place, and that she had posted a good deal in the NL; in just about every single thread for the first five pages. This is what I'm thinking: Even though no one's post count went up in NL because you turned on the option for such, when it was deleted, the software wasn't programmed to take this into account, and subracted all of those posts. When you recently corrected these errors, as you say, it realized it's mistake and added them back up. I just thought I'd share my hypothesis. Perhaps the people who suddenly gained more posts recently had posted in the Newbie Lounge a few times. *shrug*
  3.
Originally posted by Queen Asuka Well, I think technically for me it was the Thundercats. I used to watch that all the time when I was a baby. My mom tells the funniest stories about me being obsessed with that show. There are also lots of other classics that I used to watch that are not aired now, but that was definately the first one for me.
Wait -- you mean that show on Cartoon Network with cats who piloted those jets? That was an anime? o_O;
  4.
Originally posted by Double_B_Daigo Actually thats not true, there not really controlled on the inside, there just being help to confirm actions by there pilots.
Er..do you mind repeating that? lol Even if Evangelions are not exactly like most mechs, I'm sure you'd be able to clasify it as such for this thread. After all, they are piloted by people to fight. At the bare bones of the show, I'd have to personally consider it a mech anime.
  5. I really like anime for a number of reasons. Of course, probably the first point I have to make is on their unique animation style, where you can ususally identify something as an anime or not. I actually prefer it to almost every animation style we have in America currently, probably mostly because it is very detailed, and looks quite realistic (a lot of the time). It is fun to draw, though some are easier than others, and they're just so unique compared to other country animations. ^_^; The next thing that I have to bring up is the story-line in most animes. I have found that ususally, animes go much deeper into the story than other cartoons. They pay attention to greater detail, trying to create situations that they believe would actually happen in that particular atmosphere, and I think they do a good job for the most part. And the genres themselves have a large collection enough for anyone to find what they like, including action, romance, comedy, self growth, etc., and a lot of animes have combinations of these. So, I guess what it comes down to...is detail. The animation is detailed, the storyline is detailed, heck, even the personalities of the characters in the anime are detailed. That's why I like anime. ;)
  6.
Originally posted by Queen Asuka I just cannot consider an Eva a mech. It's just a BIOLOGICAL being covered in armor. That'd be like saying me covered in metal armor is your favorite mech. Which makes NO sense whatsoever. Just thought I would point that out. Otherwise! I like Wing Zero. The one with the ANGEL WINGS! It's so beautiful! Not to mention that I LOVE Heero Yuy...he's such a darling. But yes, Wing Zero for Asukaness all the way since Eva's aren't mechs!
Consider this -- a mech is a large robot-type creature that can be manually controlled from the inside. Are you manually controlled from the inside, Asuka? o_O; If an Eva is completely covered in armor and works as a robot in the sense that we can control it's every move, as well as the fact that it is manually manuevered from an inside cockpit, how can it not be a mech? I suppose if you wanted to get into the nitty-gritty, then yes, officially somewhere down the line they're not exactly like mechs. But just because the truth behind the Evangelions are that they are somehow human-like below the armor, it doesn't change the fact that they look and operate just like mechs. End of story.

    Desktop.

    Okay, I did sort of a desktop rehall recently when Logan showed me how to do the QuickLaunch thing with my programs. As you can see, there's a whole lot more open space, and I also changed my background for the heck of it.
  8.
Originally posted by Fall You can't just pass a law that completely bars aged people from driving. My grandfather, who is now 75, wouldn't have a job, let alone a living, and wouldn't be in half as good health as he is now, if he couldn't drive. He lives 60 kilometers away from the nearest town, only because he needs a quite large block of land to hold the stock he currently owns. He droves them every second day down the highway, and then back again. With his ute. Without it, he wouldn't have as much stock, therefore not as big a living, and thus he wouldn't need as big a block a land. He would probably live closer to town. Though he would still need transport. Without his car, he wouldn't have the job he has now. He loves his job... "Lets just go and take away his car and leave him be. He'll be right." He can't ride a horse into town every day. He can't drive a tractor into town. The same with walking. You can't expect an aged person to walk everywhere. That takes away a right. Wouldn't you feel left out if you were barred from driving anymore? Aged people need transport. Public transport (buses, trains, etc) don't go everywhere. And for some people, they need to drive, to get somewhere, just to live. I'm all for taking driving tests every year, to keep their liscences valid. But surely as hell you can't just stop aged people from driving "period". If they fail, they can try again. That's fair. -kids can take their driving tests as much as they want, till they get it. Aged people should have the same opportunity. It's not right to just stop them from driving, "period" as some people say. Kids are just as bad. You're not going to see an 80-year-old speeding down the freeway at 200km/h. A kid -more likely. And just the same, you're not going to see a kid shuffling along at 40km/h, either. SPEEDING kills. When you're slow, and you're heading for someone, they're not going to stay there for two minutes waiting to be hit. When you're SPEEDING, they have two seconds to wait. It's common-sense -people change. Put up with it. Don't like someone's driving, piss off. -they probably wouldn't like your driving either. If they do put a complete ban on aged people from driving, at a certain age, they might aswell ban teenagers from driving aswell. In all honesty, there's two sides to this subject.
We're not saying that all senior citizens should not be allowed to drive, we're simply showing that there should be stricter law enfourcement to weed out those who can't. ~_^ If someone that old can drive as good as they did 50 years ago, then let them. My grandfather is 78 and he drives just fine. But for some people, as they get older their mind starts slowing down and forgetting things, such as this man who recently killed 10 people. For that reason, I and other people in the thread are saying that once a person reaches a certain age, they should have to take a test every year or so, just in case. We are in no way saying that all old people should be taken off the roads for good, lol.
  9. Woah, that picture really makes him look realistic; I had been wondering who would be the bad guy in the next film. Something else that I've been wondering about, though, is about the rumors of whether Tobey Maguire is going to play Spider Man again in II. I remember hearing something about him breaking his leg in the production of the first, and that he may be replaced by his stunt double. oO; In any case, I'm eagerly awaiting this sequal because of just how well they did the first one -- it was simply so original. Can they keep that feeling for the second? Oh, and if you have any other pictures, feel free to share more. ^_^;
  10. Awww..^_^; I love the whole slightly green color tone you have going in them, to match your text in your post and sig. I feel like I've stepped into...a place where everything is green whenever I look at your posts. o.O; Mei = green, got it. ^_~ The banner and avatar themselves have just amazing simplicity. They're perfect without getting all graphically prepped up. ^^; *eats the avatar rice cake*

    Metropolis

    I liked Metropolis, but the animation was really new for me in the way of anime. To me, it obviously looked more like a Disney cartoon, but once you get further into it, you can see just how in depth, futuristic, and deadly it gets. As I was saying, I thought it was a good movie, but it could have been better. The story line was kind of strange to me, and I never understood
why that kid would risk his life to save the robot girl. Even when she was trying to kill him, he just would never let her go. oO;
The first time I saw it was in anime club, so that alone kind of sets up a good atmosphere and sometimes has me remember animes to be a little better than I really thought, lol.
  12.
Originally posted by Double_B_Daigo Yeah, and his dad uses him like a tool of war. So he kinda deserves to be whiney.
Yes, the producers seem to have done the series as realistically as possible, showing exactly what they believe what happen if there were things called Evas that protected the world from Angels and had to be piloted by kids. And really, you're not going to see a 14 year old under this kind of pressure just "suck it up". It makes sense, but he's still not going to be my favorite mech pilot. ;)
  13.
Originally posted by bignate dawg Evas are cool and all, but i'v always hated shinji(see greg, i can acctualy say it!)
Yes, well. *ahem* I did sort of imply that Shinji is kind of...whiney (PS. Don't kill me, Shy, he made me do it)...but I can also sort of understand why, in a way. Afterall, to only be 14 and have the fate of the world resting on your hands (especially the first time he piloted it), it's enough to make anyone break down. So yes, once again, Evangelion has my favorite mechs, but not necessarily my favorite mech pilots, and this is the only series with mechs that I've really gotten to know.

    Bad Boys 2
Originally posted by L.A. Rod. I just can't imagine another Bad Boys... I liked the first one so much. There just isn't a Bad Boys for me without Julie. Not that I think the second one is going to be a bad movie, but I'd rather not see it to preserve the essence of the first.
I saw bits and peices of the first; it was on the other day when I was in Cali. Like I said, I didn't see much of it, but from what I did see, it looked to be a pretty funny movie as well. I have to tell you, though, before I saw the previews for the second one, I hadn't even heard of Bad Boys.

    Finding Nemo

    I saw this movie a while ago, and while I thought it was good, I sort of expected better from what you all were saying. oO; Again, that's not to say it was a bad movie, but I just didn't like it as much as many here, and preferred some of the other pixar movies like Mosters Inc or Ice Age. It was a rather funny and cute movie, though. ^_^ If I had to pick a favorite part of the movie, I'd probably have to say...
either when they went into the current and that whole bit, or when those other fish finally made it out of the tank.
Both parts were funny and enjoyable, and the producers did a good job on them.

    Bad Boys 2

    I usually wait for movie threads to be made, but I thought, eh, why not make it myself, and here I am. Yeah...so, I saw Bad Boys 2 today at my local theater. I really didn't have any intentions of watching it at first, and the only reason I came was to get more time driving, and because my brother wanted to see it anyway. It was actually a much better movie than I thought it would be. There was tons of action, which was to be expected from the looks of the previews, but to accompany that, a lot of movies seldom focus on the plot. This movie, however, had a decent story in my opinion that wasn't hard to follow at all, and actually made sense, unlike a lot of movies that I've seen lately. Bad Boys 2 also had a lot of comedy, obviously, and I particularly liked the scene
in the electronic store when they went to see what was on the video camra, lol.
If you have any desire to watch this movie, be prepared for a much longer film than you will anticipate, and the massive load of cussing that goes with the R rating. If you can stand that much, then I deffinitly recommend this movie the everyone, and find it to be surprisingly one of the best movies I've seen this summer.
  17.
Originally posted by Shinji-Kun
The only reason the Eva pliots are kids is because for the Eva to function it needs the brain activity of a 13 year old.

Yeah, I know why they have to use kids as the pilots, I'm just saying that because they do, they wouldn't ever be able to have some bad *** pilot dude that shows no mercy. heh That would be tight to see in an Eva, lol; manually, that is. But then, because of the age, it also shows us another way how the Evangelions are such complicated mechs, which I like, tehee. So I guess that would make me confused. ;)
  18. I don't know about the best Mech, because I havn't seen that many Mech animes, but my favorites by far are the Evangelions. To start off with the Evangelions themselves, they are probably the deepest, most involved Mechs in any anime.
In reality, these mechs are actually creatures made in God's image who are controlled by NERV through the armor that surrounds them. Heck, they even have souls residing in them of people who are no longer alive, and have a deadly autopilot that's like a raging beast. To top it off, they are practically invincible and are made to handle extremely powerful weapons.
After that, though, I couldn't say that the pilots are really my favorites.
First of all, they only allow kids to control them, who have somewhat fragile minds and are reluctant to do a large deal of damage. They are given a good ammount of manuverability once they are in the cockpit, however, and I like just how attached they become to the Evas, to the point where if the Eva is being strangled, so are they.
So overall, yeah, the Evas are probably my favorite mechs. Maybe not the best, I'm not a big fan of Gundam so I don't watch it that often, but deffinitly my favorite.
  19. My friend thinks I'm going to have to have them pulled sooner or later. According to him, my teeth are so straight and perfect that they won't have room to come in. oO; I don't believe him, though. ~_^ I would have thought that if they needed to be pulled, I should know already. Would they normally have come in if you're around 16?

    Newbie . . .

    Ugh...there seems to be a trend of these threads around lately. Or perhaps I havn't been in here that much until lately.. In any case, yes, intro threads are not allowed. To put it simply, the topic encourages spam, and this board works to minimize that. Topic closed. Welcome to OtakuBoards and have fun! ^_^
  21.
Originally posted by Terpischore Wooa..did this thread just turn from Texan OBers to "Location, Location, Location...where are you from?"...or am I just crazy??
Well, from what I can see, someone just merged 'Autralian OBers' with 'Texan Obers' after they noticed the trend of people asking where they live. I'd consider it a smart move; I kind of saw it coming even after the first one, since it was a little too specific anyway, if that makes sense.
  22.
Originally posted by Double_B_Daigo Oh and by the way, Vash wasn't drunk in "Quick Draw", he was just hung over because he drank alot the night before.
It's the same difference. ;) The point of my post was not to be completely exact, though I thought about changing drunk to hung over, it's that even when he's not at 100%, his aim is a good deal better than those who are.
Originally posted by Metatron Wrong. Vash
lived for 150 years ever sine the Big Fall. He has been in numerous shoot-outs since, and his scars do not attest to him being incredibly skilled from the beginning. Even though its a bit different, you see a flash back of Vash's past in the manga and you see images of Vash getting shot, Vash mistakenly killing someone, etc. etc. He was not born that way.

His scars are there because he chooses not to kill the people he fights, not because he wasn't good with a gun (though I imagine he wasn't perfect from the beginning). The fact of the matter is that because he's a plant, he lacks many human faults, so yes, you could say that he's an excellent marksman because he was born as a part plant. As you can see, it doesn't necessarily mean that he was born with excellent skills, just the ability to bring them out.
T.V. Show

    My favorite American show has to be Family Guy just because of how funny it is, and how it makes you laugh without having to think about it. It has to be at least 10 times funnier than the Simpsons; why they took it off the air on Fox is beyond me (though I am aware that they show it on Adult Swim). The jokes are a little mature, I'll admit, but they're obviously funny nonetheless. I actually bought the first and second seasons of the show on DVD, and I'd be watching them over and over, except that my brother accidently left them over at a friend's house, bleh. If they are coming out with the next 2 seasons any time soon, no doubt I'll be buying those as well. ;)
  24. Well this new title makes everything a lot more generalized, as well as actually giving me something to talk about. ;) I'm from Southern Maryland, USA, but I don't expect many of you here are anywhere near there. Where I live inparticular, because of how rural it is, and meaning I never really had much of a chance of that happening in the first place. :p It really is a somewhat interesting place to live, though, besides the fact that there are no malls, because of the range of weather that we have. I go somewhere like San Diego, California, and it really makes me take notice to the fact that where I live, it can suddenly be cold or rain on any given day, and that it actually snows in the winter, lol. But yeah, the closest entertainment that you are going to find for miles is your own house, with video games, computer, and whatever else.
  25. Last night I had a very strange dream about Semjaza Azazel. oO; Don't look at me, lol. Let's start from the beginning; it's a very strange dream. Okay, I was working on the computer one night and for some reason, I was tempted to download this certain file. Soo, I started downloading it, but it was taking a REALLY long time. So then we went in the car to go on a trip, and I brought the computer so that the file could keep downloading. How it stayed plugged into the wall the whole time is beyond me. The dream is really fuzzy for me after that. The bits and peices that I remember are that I took the computer over to my brother's friend's house, and his friend decided to turn it off, so I got really pissed. Then somehow I met Semajaza as he was driving down the road or something, and then he drove me to his house, and...it was just really weird. I had my cat with me too, so I put him down and he started running around and climbing through his walls. Then, uhh...*thinks* something happened that made a few of his computers blow up (Sem had about 5 computers). Then he started eating rats in his house, and it was just....the strangest dream I've ever had. How the hell did something like that get started? o_O;;;
