Okay, let's not go off and start bashing other members. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and whether you like it or not, not everyone is going to agree with you. This isn't completely directed at one person, so no one should feel personally offended at this either. Me? I'm for the mainstreaming of anime, of course. I'm sure most people wouldn't be here today if Cartoon Network or WB or something had never showed anime. I know I wouldn't, and look where I am now. ;) Becoming mainstream is exactly what anime needs to become popular in countries other than Japan in the long run. All of you who are against mainstreaming of anime, think about this...barely anyone knows what anime is, and you have no one to talk to about it; there would probably be no OtakuBoards, and if there was, it wouldn't be anywhere near as popular; and every anime that you watch would have to be purchased from some Japanize site that would take weeks to get the anime to your house. Sure, there are some obvious drawbacks to the mainstreaming of anime, but in the long run, I believe that it's better that it's getting so much attention.

What is your favorite part of celebrating birthdays?
Syk3 replied to Cora Jane 2's topic in General Discussion
Originally posted by SaiyanPrincessX I love birthdays.^^ In my family we have alot of September birthdays, including mine and my brothers'. My grandma is the only one that lives in the same state as me who does though. ¬_¬ Hers is 4 days after mine, my brothers' is 5 days before mine. ^_^ Its fun though. When we where younger we had it combined a few times. Now we usually have family ect. over. I love decorating for birthdays, especially my brothers' because him and I like alot of the same things so its easy, same with shopping for him. We usually have cake and dinner. Last year I had chocolate cake and Chinese food, mmm.. :tasty: My favorite part is the realization that it is my birthday, like in the morning, presents, and family. 5 months from tomarrow I'll be eating cake and opening those presents.:excited:
Hey hey, Elite, me, and your grandma all have the same birthday. The 19th, right? Well, I'd like to say that getting together with my friends and having a party is the best part about celebrating my birthday..but that was 3+ years ago. I always enjoyed getting together with my best friends, and then going out to some place like Dave and Busters and just having a great time. Since then, however, I grew out of parties, so that isn't an option. After that, it's great to have my family come together, but even then, I am only in high school and still live with my parents, and I see my grandparents at least every two weeks. Presents? Well, it's not like that's exculsive to birthdays, and the same can go for money. I suppose that having a day designated to myself is the best part of celebrating my birthday. Selfish? I don't know..after all, it's my birthday. Overall, I'd have to say that birthdays were a much more enjoyable experience when I was younger. It's not that big a deal for me anymore. -
Woah, that's an amazing image. It makes it seem like so much is going on, and has kind of a motion feel to it. In a way, it kind of reminds me of something that may be found in an anime, whereas something is transforming or moving very quickly. I'm not too sure if I like the color, though.. My rating: 8.5/10

Well, Anger Management deffinitly wasn't one of my favorite Sandler movies, but it was alright I guess. There were a few funny moments, but overall they could have done a lot better. After seeing Mr. Deeds, I wasn't expecting a lot from this movie, since it seemed that Adam Sandler movies have started getting worse. I wouldn't recommend seeing this in theatres, but rather wait until it comes on video or HBO.

I am sure many of us couldn't understand what you were saying there. If you can't make the effort to writing out the full words, then please don't post. I'm not trying to sound rude, just giving you a heads up for next time. :)

I made a thread in Outlaw Star a while back that talked about the person who did Faye's voice. I originally brought up the topic since I recognized her voice in that one assasin main character girl, can't remember her name though. Aparently, the person who does the voice for Faye has done voices in a ton of other animes as well, even ones that seem to have been released at the same time.

Yeah, I saw the new trialer on my friend's cable modem, and it was intense. The sound was great, and everything just looked so polished. The only problem I have with it is when all of those Agent Smith guys come at him, and similar scenes. You can tell that they obviously used computer animation, and while they should, I don't think it should have been that obvious. I don't like live-action movies where at a given point, they would be clearly animated while running or moving around, like when Neo with swinging around on the pole. That just lost all originality right there.

Anime Cartoon Network Line-Ups...and anime on television announcements
Syk3 replied to Syk3's topic in Otaku Central
Originally posted by NfraRed First of all, I will say that trigun is a really cool show after all, mainly because of the humor, as gokents said. Not always the action. So, yeah, Cartoon Network did us a favor. Does it mean they're awesome? Not really. But they moved up in the world, for being daring. Uno problemo, however... do they have to show a gazillion episodes of DBZ and pokemon, and one episode of Gundam 0080 per week? The cruelty. Um, sorry if I offended any Pokemon or DBZ fans.
Well, with Pokemon, it just takes up a normal cartoon, so you can choose whether or not you want to watch it. With DBZ, it's filling up a potential slot for more anime, but then, it's going to be off the air in a little bit anyway. In any case, Cartoon Network is a great source for someone who doesn't have enough to actually buy the anime. -
Originally posted by AnimeAddict Mm, hmm. Just another note on that:
When Ritsuko (sp?) led Shinji and Misato into the core of NERV it showed millions of Reis. These are just empty shells used to pilot the Evas because they can just load the pilot's info. into her. She is actually the dummy plugs.
Am I right? It's been awhile since I watched those episodes. It's really hard to explain Evangelion. :wigout:
Ohh, of course of course,
the dummy plug
. I hadn't seen it in a while, I'm sorry. ^_^ Boy, I look stupid...
Originally posted by Kumomaru And you know that black guy who does the Big Shot programe he is also the guy at the airport with his mam!
Well, yeah, but above being the same voice actor, it was also the same character. Different circumstances, since the creators intentially had him be in that part with him mom. I didn't notice Spike and Solid Snake. I'll have to look into that...

I'm kind of surprised at that fact. I think Trigun was great, but perhaps the Japanese had seen it all before, or maybe there was another cool series playing around the same time? Maybe it was too 'western' or could it have been aimed at an American audience? Oh well, at least it's doing good over here. In fact, it's my second favorite series.
-
I was really hoping that the movies to the series would help to explain a few points, but they turned out to be just as confusing if not more so than the last two episodes. True, I havn't really tried to depict the movies bit by bit as I have the last two episodes, but there is so much going on in the movies, especially 'Death and Rebirth,' that it's very hard to follow, even for something who has the series and movie on DVD and has watched them many times over. I think the series just went downhill after episode 24 when the creator had a mental breakdown. Now, I'm going to try my best to explain who Rei is. I'm not trying to compete with anyone who had given their opinion on it, but rather just giving my own opinion on her.
First of all, you have to understand that Rei is an Angel. In episode 24, there is a part where Kaworu has entered "Heaven's Door", the room with Adam, the first Angel. I'm going to refer to my notes that I took on this episode...aparently this Angel is actually Lilith, the second Angel. In any case, some time during which Kaworu is in the room, the NERV personnel get a reading on another Angel AT field, and you quickly get a glimpse of Rei up above, hovering in a corner. At this time, I can't remember which Angel she is called, or even if I ever knew, but she is an Angel nonetheless, very similar to Kaworu. The next thing you have to realize is that Rei is a clone of Yui, Shinji's mother. I don't remember who it was, but they recognized Yui in Rei's eyes, which you can agree are very similar. In fact, if you look carefully, Rei is basically a younger Yui but with blue hair. Next, Rei never actually existed as a human being. The Rei that you know is just a clone of an endless line of Reis created to fuel the very soul of Evangelion. This way, if one Rei is to die in an accident, another one can be taken from the group of Reis to go on living in her place. Rei has 'died' two times: she was strangled to death by Ritsuko's mother as a young child, and she blew herself up in episode 23 to save Shinji from being taken in by the Angel.
If this still left a few unanswered questions, that is for you to decide by yourself, or just ask me speicifically.

Anime They already have it....and we won't til '05
Originally posted by Juunanagou Ummm... FUNi has said that GT will not air on Cartoon Network until 2004, which means fans will be buying DVDs to see "PlotHole GT". It hits shelves ina few days, and already has in certain areas.
I've heard that Cartoon Network may begin to put on GT as early as this fall. It would make sense, because FUNI is already releasing the episodes on VHS and DVD, and CN would be desperate enough to put those up, since god knows there is no way they are going to show the whole series straight through the first time. Plus, it's hard to imagine the Dragonball name off CN for so long. ;) Not that that's a bad thing; some times it's good to let things set, and bring in something new. -
Originally posted by silentdeath yes the levels were bigger but they weren't,as charles said, memerable.they lacked something that set off all the others.i loved tokyo in THPS3 it was pretty and fun,but there are no cool places in THPS4 sept maybe chicago.
That's just a matter of opinion. ;) Each of the levels in Tony Hawk's 4 were done extremely well, with a lot of detail in them, and usually when saying that you thought the previous ones were better, it just shows a sort of resentment to open yourself up to the Tony Hawk feel after so many games. I personally didn't find the '3' levels anywhere near as original as '4', but again, that's just opinion.

Ahh...Spongebob Squarepants is a great show. When I first started watching it, I thought it was so stupid and pointless, and didn't have a point at all. I did not like it at all and thought it was so childish. However, after hearing a punch of people saying how great Spongebob is, seeing his T-shirts in almost every store, and noticing how EVERYONE knows who Spongebob is, I started wathing it more closely, and I'm glad I did. It's pointless, childish, and doesn't make sense...but that's what's great about it! You can just sit down and watch an episode without thinking, and find it halarious. It's not aimed only at children, but rather the creators do a good job of having it appeal to any range of ages. You just have to laugh at the stupidity of it. My favorite character is probably Patrick, because I can make such a good impression of his voice. >.< I don't really sound like that, I can just make the impression. :) I wish there was a pink T-shirt of his face, like the yellow one of Spongebob; I'd buy it.

I like a lot of songs on the new CD, including this one. It's pretty different from normal Linkin Park songs, and it has a nice beat. I think other cool new ones are tracks 4 and 11 (I don't have the song titles). Overall though, I'd say the last CD was better.

I don't know about this movie. I may be going buy some things I saw on a preview or two, but it just looks like a corney Matrix clone. If it's the movie I'm thinking about, then this 'monk' guy somehow makes it look like he is trying to do what Jackie Chan has been doing for years. Then you look at these bullet sequences, and they do all this weird stuff, from calmly watching a bullet go by, to people shooting at them and they kick the bullets back at them. o_O Yeah...I wasn't impressed by the trailers.

I'm not sure why or under what curcumstances this member was banned, but I'm going to keep this thread open as long as you explain your reasons for choose which series you like the best. Ignore that second post of his in the sense that he didn't double post, I just merged two of his threads to make one 'Zoids' topic. That way, I generalized it to talk about which series is your favorite, whether or not you own any models, or basically anything you wish to talk about on Zoids. I hope this helps.

Hmm, well, I think that the Tony Hawk series gets better with every game. The fourth game has been my favorite from the series thus far, and I own all of the other games. There is a ton of originality brought into the franchise; more than any of it's predecessors. I've never exactly played Agressive Inline, but even so, you can get pretty different when comparing inline with skateboarding. The old Tony Hawk games were so easy, that I just had to laugh. On the third installment, after I got the hang of it, I could beat one of the characters files in a day -- all of the goals, decks, and stat points. I eventually beat the entire game with nothing else to do, and you couldn't even retry the goals. Tony Hawk's 4, on the other hand, offerred a game where there was no time limit and you could play as long as you wanted to without restarting. There were more and tougher goals, money to collect, and you could restart the goals whenever you wanted. Plus, instead of having a level devoted to a competition, you can have one in any level in the game. Each character had a specific challenge devoted to themselves as well, so you didn't feel like you were repeating everything again. The challenges were very hard, but lots of fun. The levels were massive, the graphics were better, there was more stuff to do, and untimately, it was harder, which I like. Better than all of the previous? Yes.

Unfortunately, I never had the chance to play the first Soul Calibur on Dreamcast, which is why I'm anxiously awaiting the release of the second one this August. It's very intreguing to have a fighting game that aparently concentrates more on weopons than regular fighting games. And then you bring in these secret characters depending on which system you buy the game for, and it makes it that much more interesting. I'll hopefully be buying this game for my GameCube, since it will be so fun to play as Link, whereas the guy from Tekken on the PS2 version isn't anything to get excited about in my opinion, but that's just me. From your view point, it sounds like an awsome game. :)
Originally posted by dr.septagon I can t wait for the folloeing movies: 1) Matrix Reloaded 2) Matrix Republics (or whatever) 3) Terminator 3 (Terminator 2 is one of my favourite movies) 7) Lord Of The Rings 3 (whatever its called)
The second Matrix is called 'The Matrix: Revolutions' and the third Ring movie is called 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.' Don't let the 'Rings' fans catch you saying it's number 3, though, just go along and say that it is all one book, and this movie shows the third part of it. ;) I absolutely cannot wait for The Matrix: Reloaded. There is no way in the world I am missing it, seeing as The Matrix was my favorite movie of all time. If it is shown at midnight the night before, I'm going; noon the day it comes out, I'm skipping school and seeing it. And yes, I am that desperate. I think I'm actually taking it pretty well, however, being someone who has known there was going to be a triligy since back in the summer of 2000. Think about it... If you think it's amazing that the two movies are coming out within six months of each other, then you'd be surprised to know that they are probably already done -- both of them. But then, there is no way they'd get permission or even want to release both movies at the same time. This way, around the time the second Matrix comes out on DVD, the third one comes to theatres. The producers really went all out on this whole Matrix series, taking people to go as far as to say that they are obsessed. On the day that the second Matrix movie comes out, the game Enter the Matrix is released as well, which, while not featuring Neo as a main character, does fall right into the story line instead of having some half-baked plot primarily for the game. You'd have to play through the game to get the whole experience. But wait, there's more! In the anime version, aparently a few of the OVAs tie right into the story line too, so to get the whole Matrix, you'll be spending quite a few bucks. I'm not sure if going all commercial on the Matrix movie is the best move, but when you consider that the game has lots of extra scenes in it that wern't packed into the movie and the goal of being a movie-based game that doesn't actually suck, and that the Animatrix OVAs were created by possibly the greatest anime directors of all time (Cowboy Bebop, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, etc.), then I think they have a good chance at successfully matching everything they've set out to do. As you can see, saying that I really, really, really can't wait to see the next Matrix movie is quite an understatement.
Originally posted by James Well, I've just gotten Metroid Prime (it came out a short time ago in PAL territories). And what can I say...I'm having trouble writing an N-Sider PAL review because I'm finding it very difficult to avoid overstating the game's brilliance. I can tell you one thing; I haven't been this impressed with a video game since Super Mario 64. And yes, that does include the time when I first played Ocarina of Time. When you consider that I'm a massive Zelda fan and that OoT was the first 3D Zelda game (and was virtually flawless), you get a sense of my feelings about MP. This one game justifies Retro Studios to an insane degree. This one game also makes me totally comfortable with Retro Studios "taking Rare's place", as it were. This one game is better than anything Rare have ever done (and better than half the stuff NCL itself has done). And I have zero hesitation in saying that. So yeah, what else can I say? lol I think Metroid Prime is now my new favourite game of all time. And if that stance doesn't hold until well after I've finished the game, then I think it will most likely be within my top three for a long time to come.
Heh, now you can finally see what we were all hyped up about earlier this year / late last year. Metroid Prime is, too, my favorite game of all time, which is pretty hot considering I made that decision after the first few hours of buying that and my GCN, when I've owned PlayStation 2 for over a year and it couldn't do anything close to that for me. In fact, I'd put all of my GCN games (I only have 4 so far) above every game I've ever owned. What do all you anti-GameCube people say to that? ;) I think the most interesting point to note here is just how Retro Studios came about in the first place. This recently formed company over in Texas (not Japan!) had never made a game before, and here they come with this peice of art known as Metroid Prime, and they are famous. I think we will be seeing a lot of this company in the future, hopefully producing such awsome games for the GCN. As for my progress in the game, I've taken a leave of absence in the world-wide debut of the new Zelda, which I will complete first before going back to Metroid. I have about 54% racked up, and after a quick look to see what I was supposed to go, I couldn't figure out what to do. Ah, but that is only a matter of time... :)
