Originally posted by James Syk3, please try to be a little less overzealous in your Moderating. I am noticing a few cases where you are closing threads and editing posts a little too readily. Please pull back a little bit. This topic is fine and should remain open. We should encourage discussion about new anime that people may not yet have seen.
I'm sorry James, it's just...well, I'll be more careful. I felt that the initial point of this thread was comparing Neon Genesis Evangelion to RahXephon, and saying that RahXephon was not the next Evangelion. Basically, I thought that he was trying to see who agrees with him on this stand point. But, of course, if I had seen this thread in another light -- one that encouraged discussion about RahXephon, I would not have closed it. Sorry, again. On topic, I believe that I've heard of RahXephon, but havn't actually seen it. You say that it's similar to Eva? In what ways?
  2.
Originally posted by Kinetic There's always the option of using animeniacs.com. They have a large selection of exceptionally cheap anime and are a very good resource. I haven't used them, but am looking forward to. But, back on topic, I think this is a great idea and I'm in full support of it. I'm going to go search for Spriggan, since I've wanted to see it for a while anyway.
Funny, I was going to suggest the exact same site. o_O One thing, however, there is no ".com" site, just ".net" and ".org" I believe. :) I've used them...::counts:: For five purchases, great selection, prices, and reliability. Yeah, kind of straying the topic here. I've got my new computer (gives me a faster system to download with and has a larger hardrive), so I should be able to see Spriggun any day now. But then, if you are going to discuss it Tuesday, I better wait until the next anime. After all, I want all of you to begin these discussions as soon as possible; that is what this thread is for.

It is true that the basis for every series comes from another, but I doubt I would go so far as to call it the next Evangelion. In any case, I don't see any intelligent conversations coming from this. Sorry, topic closed. :whoops:
  4.
Originally posted by Juuthena mm... yeah you have a point. It's been dead for about eight years in Korea, and when I call a friend about it, she just sits for a while and then all of a sudden says, "Oh yeah, that... I remember now. My sister liked it a while back.". They were just a few guys at a corner of the anime section anyway... bah. I wish there was... T-T (psst.. even though I haven't seen all the sessions yet. ^_-)
Really? Eight years? I could have sworn that the series premired in 1998. Perhaps she got the eights mixed up.
Originally posted by Projekt[Navi] The movie would've been better if they explained some parts of the series .. like how exactly does spyke survive those deaths that he encountered in the past. The movie was alright, but it seemed more like another episode then a movie.
I actually liked it better this way. Sure, they could have gone over the series and explained a few things, but it was basically self-explanitory anyway, and I liked how it was a new story altogether. I'm sure that they wouldn't have been able to capture half of the audience that they did if they didn't make a new and amazing story. But...what parts were confusing for you? I believe that Spike survived because he had the will to survive (Julia), and because he's pretty tough.
  5.
Originally posted by Spikey Villian: Vash the Stampide Anime: Trigun Info: Vash is considered a villian because he kills most people in his path. The person who catches him is rewarded with 60,000,000,000 dollars. Vash can be good, and bad, sorta like Vegeta. Why: I like Vash because he is such a hilaurius charcter. He also is an acegunman. Probaly the best outlaw out there. I can't think of any better. -Spikey
Lol, I'd hardly consider Vash a bad guy. :) He's a good character, and would kill himself before he'd kill anyone else. He can be serious, but I doubt one can go so far to call him a villain. The time that he got the bounty on his head, that was an accident, and he didn't even cause any casualties.

    Chobits

I saw this anime, and I don't find it that bad. They don't have much action, but there is a lot of comedy and plot. I suppose that I liked it. They could have done without the perverted stuff, but it only made up a small portion, and it could have been worse. It's not like they showed anything...but then, I didn't see all of them yet. Anyway, the series is about a guy who used to live in a farm, and is now introduced to this big town with robots called Chobits, hence the name of the series. Usually, people get these chobits to do chores around the house, and don't really have to do any work anymore. Well, this guy, I believe he is taking a class there, he moves in and finds a Chobit in the garbage. So, the rest of the anime deals with his interaction with this robot, and "her" interaction in the real world. It's pretty interesting. :) From what I've heard, I don't think that there are too many eps of the anime out, so I reccomend getting it. As for the manga, check the price and stuff; I don't usually buy manga so I'm not an ideal person estimate the price and tell you if it's worth it.
  8. Villain: Vicious Anime they are on: Cowboy Bebop Info about them: The main bad guy in the series, Vicious was previously an ally to Spike as they fought side-by-side in the old syndicate. Unfortunately, he turns on Spike and continues to try and kill him, being the head fighter for the Red-Dragon Syndicate. He fights Spike only twice during the series, and
is finally killed the second time, in the last episode
. Vicious uses a sword to fight, and fights swift and strong, taking no mercy. Near the end,
he ends up killing the people in charge of the Red-Dragon and becomes head of it. Vicious then goes to face his fate and die at the hands of Spike
. Why: Vicious is my favorite bad guy because of the feel that the producers put around him. He is portrayed as a bad ***, and the sword just makes him appear even cooler. His ego isn't that big either, which I feel is overated for bad guys. He has a quiet, freaky voice, and is introduced into the series with death following in his path, and makes you feel as such everytime you meet him in the series, which isn't really that often. He has a very cool appearance as well, and never shows fear.
  9.
Originally posted by Yu Yu Hakusho! I still wish that they'd start a new series....but
Spike is never coming back
so it proably wouldn't be as good...
After those last two episodes? Nah, the series won't be returning. But if it did, they would have Spike
magically survive,
and continue adventures with him and the rest of the gang. In any case, it's not ganna happen.

    Snow!!!

I got snow! ^_^ It's southern Maryland, USA, and we have about 5 inches, and no school. Granted, if you are watching the news and they have an overview of the Calvert County snow, and you see the words "Syk3," that was me. ;) I don't believe that the UK gets all that much snow. I could be wrong, though.
  11.
Originally posted by Shyguy Yeah, Syk3 does deserve some credit. *awards him 100 EXP*
Lol, thanks.
No, they can just be closed. Closed topics don't hurt anyone, I'm sure you that you are able to navigate this forum without having the mods delete every thread about Cartoon Network.
Yeah, that's what I was going to say. I'm hoping that with this stickied thread, members won't feel the need to bring up past topics on Cartoon Network. If they want to discuss them, they can just do it here. In any case, if someone does bring back an old one, yes, it can be closed, but there is no point to delete them altogether.
  12. No, I don't think they did. Hilda seems far more proud than to be seduced by Gene, who would have obviously been trying. However, you must remember that there are some younger members on these forums, and this kind of dicussion is not appropriate. Topic closed.
  13. Feel encouraged to post in the stickied thread at the top of the General Anime forum. ;)
  14. Lately, I've been seeing a lot of these types of threads. Aparently, every time a new line-up is released, people hear about it and make a new topic. What I'd like to do is get all further Cartoon Network line-up topics confined to a single thread. This thread. This way, our members will be well-informed by reading a single thread, instead of looking back and trying to find something in the past. With other, nameless staff backing me up (SHYGUY), I present to you the Cartoon Network line-up changes thread. The first thing that I'd like to start with is the current line-ups, below: Moday through Thursday Classic Zoids -- 6:30 am Hamtaro -- 10:30 am Zoids -- 3:00 pm Dragonball -- 4:00 pm Dragonball Z -- 4:30 pm Dragonball -- 6:00 pm Dragonball Z -- 6:30 pm Pokemon -- 9:00 pm Yu-Gi-Oh -- 9:30 pm G Gundam -- 12:00 am Friday Classic Zoids -- 6:30 am Hamtaro -- 10:30 am Zoids -- 3:00 pm Dragonball -- 4:00 pm Dragonball Z -- 4:30 pm Dragonball -- 6:00 pm Dragonball Z -- 6:30 pm Saturday Dragonball Z -- 2:00 pm Dragonball -- 2:30 pm G Gundam -- 3:00 pm G Gundam -- 3:30 pm Inuyasha -- 11:00 pm Inuyasha -- 11:10 pm Cowboy Bebop -- 12:00 pm Yu Yu Hakusho -- 12:30 pm Gundam 0080 -- 1:00 pm Mobile Suit Gundam -- 1:30 pm And now, the last press release from AOL Time Warner...
Cartoon Network today announced the acquisition of three animé series that will air during Adult Swim, its highly-rated late night block of animation for adults 18-34. The three series are Lupin the Third, Reign and Trigun. Lupin the Third follows the adventures of the greatest thief in the world. Lupin is a globetrotting crook, as well as a suave gentleman. Aided by two partners, expert marksman Jigen and samurai master Goemon, Lupin's mad-capped adventures take him around the world stealing extraordinary treasures, helping damsels in distress, staying one step ahead of Inspector Zenigata and matching wits with rival thief, beautiful and dangerous Fujiko. Trigun takes place in the distant future on a deserted planet. Vash the Stampede is a gunfighter with a legend so ruthless he has a $60,000,000,000 bounty on his head. Entire towns evacuate at the rumor of his arrival. But the real Vash the Stampede, the enigmatic and conflicted lead character in Trigun, is more heroic, even though he usually acts like a complete idiot. Alexander the Great was the world's most powerful warrior. Reign is a 21st century science-fiction retelling of the legend of this Macedonian king. A visual masterpiece, Reign tells the story of Alexander's triumphs through engaging characters, intricate plots and glorious battle sequences. Lupin the Third will air Monday-Thursday at 12 midnight (ET, PT), beginning Monday, January 13. Programming information for both Reign and Trigun will be announced at a later date.
Feel free to add any line-up changes that Cartoon Network is going to be doing come future months. :) ---------- Finally, I'd like to add that just because this is no doubt a news thread, I do NOT want posts like "nice!," and "cool beans!" The spamming in this thread should not exist under any circumstances; that is not what this thead is for. This thread was created to discuss the changes that Cartoon Network is taking with their anime, not to show enlightenment by it. If you are shocked or discuraged by what they are doing, please work that into your post and explain what you are happy or mad about.
  15. Wow! I cannot believe that Cartoon Network has finally decided to show Trigun!! It's an absolutely amazing series, one that I would expect to have come to Adult Swim a lot sooner, heh. Lupin III is also supposed to be a great series, and so is Alexander the Great. I see that Cartoon Network is breaking apart from it's "Dragonball Z -only" phase more and more. My respect for Cartoon Network grows with this as well. :) On a side note, there have been a number of Cartoon Network-related topics lately. I'll talk with Rick and we'll see what we can do.
  16.
Originally posted by OutlawDragon It sounds too much like a clan(Ahhh the good ole days).
I prefer the term, "club." ;) Actually it's very unlike a clan, such as the "Mystic Clan" we made back in the day. Other than a random clan that we get people to join, this one has meaning because it brings together fans of a certain anime -- in this case, Cowboy Bebop. As I said before, I'm also hoping to get some instant messenger chats going so that we can put this club to use and discuss topics that would have otherwise created it's own thread. RPGs sound nice, but we wouldn't want to get too off-topic in this single thread.
  17.
Nothing to live for?? He never had anything to live for in the first place. He was looking for a way to die. All he had was Jet. And Faye just had to make a pit stop in Hong Kong. He would have more now then he did in the very first episode But I still think that he is alive. There is no way he was killed. A cut on the arm and a stab in the chest, that's it! If he can be shot from point blank, 2 in. away from his heart and fall 200ft(aprox). into water(that is most likely really cold as it is halloween) and almost drown, and then still live there is no way he can't handle a few cuts(big understatement, heh),
give me a break. Lataz -OD
Once again, the best thing that you can do now is let go. :( Just kidding, old friend. First of all,
he did have a lot to live for, until Julia was killed. He even states that when he was in the Syndicate, he wasn't afraid of death, but when he met Julia, he was suddenly terrified of it, now that he had something to live for. After she dies, however, he decided to find out whether he was really alive by going to fight Vicious, showing that he wasn't afraid of the coming death. As for the question of whether he was still alive, the producers do a great job to leave that open to people who cannot quite accept the fact that he's gone.
However, for more practical viewers, this really brings a lot of closure in the series, which has the perfect amount of explained and unexaplined events to end one of the best animes I've, personally, ever seen.
If you watch how many times he is injured while infultrating the base, you'll see that it would be near impossible for him to survive. On top of that, this may have been the last straw for Spike's survival, and he now has enough closure to rest in peace. Let me leave you with this: Was there anything that Spike left unattended in life that would make him want to live longer?
18.
Originally posted by sweetreyes When did you see it. I heard that it was supposed to be released here in the US but I guess at select theaters..or was it one VIDEO...Can't remember....but how did you see it...and are you in the US!!!!
It came to theatres in the US, and is supposed to be released on DVD and Video is about 5 months or so. I'm pretty sure that it was released elseware as well, and if that's the case, he's not necessarily an American. However, by now I'm sure that the select theatres that it is being shown at have stopped due to the fact that it's past the usual ammount of time that they show movie anyway. I could be wrong, but don't get your hopes up if you are intending to see it.
  19.
Originally posted by Darkness And like James said, I get really sick of people downing someone who watches dubs. Oh, and "Americanize this" and "Americanize that" needs to stop too. If it's possible to convert the language while keeping the plot the same, do it. I'm a Marketing major, and we always talk about how the message has to be changed somewhat for it to be understood. The cultures are completely opposite, deal with it. Or don't. Either way quit crying.
Exactly. Many people with this opinion have aparently gotten it seeing a bud dubbed anime or two (dbz or something), and have since refused to watch further dubs. I'm not completely sure of the case, but they may think that watching subs makes them look "cool." However, the fact of the matter is that most animes are dubbed so well these days, that one would have a hard time making out the difference.
  20. Heh, this is simply a matter of opinion for people who watch a new show and like it. So, you like it, you go through that anime phase. We can't really take this discussion any further. Oh, and this is espcially not "how did you get into anime." You can continue that discussion here.
  21. The purpose of dubbing an anime, simply put, is to make it more convenient for people who speak a different language. The whole point is making the anime more friendly towards those who prefer to watch something in their own language, leave it on in the background, etc. Companies obviously dub them for the purpose of making money among these types of people. If you could watch your favorite anime in your own language with little to no changes, would you? Dubbing companies try to get you to say yes, and recieve credit for the "expert language translation." Some people don't like having to read the subtitles, some subtitles of which are poorly written and hard to read, even ones that arn't fansubbed. They can't leave it on in the background, and it is sometimes very inconvenient. Yes, they are necessary. Whether you like it or not, the demand for dubbing anime is there, and when companies fail to meet it, they fail to make a profit outside of Japan. I do watch dubs, but when I do, I leave the subtitles on, and I don't miss anything anyway. In other words, instead of having companies make the choice for me, I buy animes where I can choose whether or not to watch it dubbed or subtitled, depending on how much focus I'm going to have in the anime at the time. However, I do try to refrain from watching the dubbed anime that Cartoon Network puts out. I understand that it isn't their fault, and I like anime dubbed to an extent, but they have pushed it a little too far. Not only have they changed much of the original, and interesting I might add, dialogue, but some look at it to the extent that they essentially changed the plotline. So, it really depends on the company that dubs the anime, and like I said before, how they meet the demand for good anime in their own language. When you hear the word "dubbing," Funimation comes to mind for many. Those people also think of words like "crappy," "worthless," etc., but what this company is simply doing is trying to provide for America's youth, which it knows is going to be a hit. Ahh, I've kind of strayed the point. I'm going to close by saying that I respect dubbing, and understand that most dubbed anime that I've seen certainly hasn't been translated bad at all from it's original Japanese version. In fact, with regards to the hassle put into to watching anime, I'd say that I prefer the dubbed version to subtitled.
  22.
Originally posted by Rick Hunter ;) Well techinically it's not spamming if they discuss why they like the song....which many have done....I was the one just being lazy....V_V Well the reason I like the theme to Nadesico is that I can identify greatly with the lyrics and because of that one song I bought all three soundtracks. As for See Saw the reason I like that song is for the fact it's a romance song. I'm a bigger sucker for that type of stuff and the singer is rather popular in Japan. :wigout: So ok people please discuss also why you like the theme songs you do. :p Happy Syk3?
Ah, I meant that you should stay on topic by, well, refferring to what the person who started this thread was talking about. He wanted to know which song was better between the two, but now that we've gone further, that's ok too. ;)
Originally posted by 9Eagle7Dragon Knives as Eve?!?! Buddy, you don't know wtf you are talking about. Vash is an effeminite hetrosexual at very best. Pretty much me and all my trigun friends have indavidually reached the conclusion that Vash is gay, he should be Eve. But that takes care of the personal matters here. Lem made many refrances to an eden, simply put everyone who ever mentioned eden was simply talking about a paridise. Basicly a land of oppurtunity, sort of like how America is refered to. And it is kind of religous, but I have to add someting else in here too. The creator of Trigun, Nightow, is Japanese. (duh) Anyway, he makes many refrances to the Catholic religion. If there's one thing about the Japs that I know, the know pretty much zip about christianity and love making fun of it in amime. (Didn't duo maxwell dress up as a catholic priest in a gundam episode? He's no priest, I'll tell you that.) They use christianity in ways like in Trigun all the time. Yes, wolfwood is a priest who carries a huge machcine gun/pistol/rocket launcehr cross around. It seems all the good guys make referances to eden. And the angel arm thing. That's about as far as it goes.
I never said anything about Knives being homosexual. The references towards him and Eve were merely actions taken by the two, not that Knives has shown signs of femininity. I said that little phrase within the parenthesies as a mere joke. Let me explain. In Eden, Eve currupts Adam, and gets them sent to Earth. As Eve abandons God and takes Adam with her, so Knives abandons the human race, taking Vash with him. It has nothing to do with Knives being straight or gay; you can compare a man and a woman without going that far. Yes, they did make Eden out as a paradise, which is what it basically is anyway. As for Wolfwood and his cross, I think he was portrayed as a hypocrit. He is a traveling priest detirmined to spread the word of god, and yet, he used his cross to kill people. Hence the saying, do as I say, not as I do.

I must say, that would be an intruiging game to play. ^_^
