  1. [quote name='chibi-master']Maybe I'm just stupid or something, but a lot of poetry just strikes me as pretentious and angsty.[/quote] [font=Calibri]This is perhaps one of the most idiotic things I have ever seen you say. Like, the whole sentence. Anyhow. I'm not generally fond of poetry either, but my distaste stems from continually seeing person after person believing they can just toss deep-sounding words on a piece of paper, claim it means something personal to them, and [i]voila[/i] it's poetry. That's a crock of horse crap, and anyone with half a brain can see that there was no effort put into the supposed poem's creation. (Lo and behold, people with half a brain tend not to be stupid. Funny how that works.) Poetry is only interesting when the poet takes pride in their work. Writing a poem requires an intense familiarity and faculty with the language, a precise control over word placement, and the ability and desire to work within stringent boundaries, because it's through those boundaries that the poet's skill and talent can be observed. So what you want to do right now is look for some of the classical poets, since it'll be easier to find quality among them. Poe is a good one. "The Raven", "The Bells", and (to a lesser extent for me) "Annabel Lee" are excellent works of hisâ??and "The Bells" abandons the confines of strict meter so it can actually [i]sound like bells[/i]. Robert Frost is another; "Fire and Ice" remains one of my favorites to this day. And of course anything by Lewis Carroll is fantastic and great fun to play with. [center]- - - - - - -[/center] If it's not the stupidity of most modern poets that bothers you, and instead the concept of the meter, we can talk further. But basically, if you like music, you should like meter, because poetry is the basis for song.[/font]
  2. [FONT=Calibri]Funny thing about that is he handed admin duties off to [COLOR=DarkRed]Petie[/COLOR] a while back. =P[/FONT]
  3. I have fallen absolutely in love with Poe's 'Haunted' album. Fourteen other brand new CDs and I only have ears for one. Mm.

  4. [FONT=Calibri]Said to me today: "You have the most gorgeous head of hair I've ever seen." My first thought was that apparently they didn't get out enough because mine was so much better when it was to my shoulders.[/FONT]
  5. [FONT=Calibri]Sorrow's Furnace. [COLOR=DarkREd]Pumpkin[/COLOR] is on Yak's Bend; I've whispered her a couple of times but she apparently thinks I'm a serial killer and won't respond. =([/FONT]
  6. [FONT=Calibri]Absolutely. [COLOR=DarkRed]Desbreko[/COLOR], [COLOR=DarkRed]SunfallE[/COLOR], and I are all still fairly active, and we're in a couple of decent guilds, so. And, whaddyamean "[i]back[/i] into it"? It's only been a couple months since it came out. =P[/FONT]

  11. [FONT=Calibri]News update: [url="https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/announcing-guild-wars-2-for-mac-beta/"]Guild Wars 2 now available for Mac OS X[/url].[/FONT]
  12. [FONT=Calibri]My secondary character, as I mentioned above, is a necromancer. I love them as well; they're much more active and involved than they felt in GW1. Because I've been focusing on my mesmer thus far, I haven't gotten to test or familiarise myself with a lot of her abilities, and I'm about fifteen levels away from getting access to elites at all, but even with a short bit of playtime I find myself favoring axe/dagger and staff combos, which allows me to drop down symbols (which feel to me like the proximity-mine equivalent of your typical nukes) and swap over to some damage and control. The necromancer wells also feel significantly more useful, and I use one right now as my healing skill and another as my go-to slot skill. I also discovered yesterday that playing on different worlds than your friends isn't necessarily a limiting factor. I went through the Ascalonian Catacombs dungeon with a guildmate and three other people from his/her alternate guild, and even though I was on SF and most of them were on Yak's Bend (I think one might have been on Gate of Madness), when we went into the dungeon instance we were all put on the same spot. That dungeon is insane, too. Difficulty is pretty steep, and apparently the explorable options get even harder, according to a guild-mate. Right now I'm focusing on world exploration. I've got two more starting zones to complete on my mesmer, and three more 15-25 zones (which I assume are built to lead your character to LA, at which point I expect the game storyline to sort of unify, since there aren't multiple same-level zones any longer after that point) and then I'll jump back into the story until I need to level some more.[/FONT]

  14. [FONT=Calibri]They do. Charr are ridiculously Roman, and it's fantastic; and the Sylvari lands are absolutely stunning. Allamorph.5943 Current characters: Oculus Peregrine (Charr mesmer, lv15); Oculus Necis (Sylvari necromancer, lv7) Sorrow's Furnace [COLOR=DarkRed]Gavin[/COLOR], you may enjoy ele a lot. You can't switch weapons in combat, but that's because you have four attunements you can swap between essentially at whim, so instead of ten usable skills you have twenty, plus your slot. When I was playing one during the Beta, I got rather fond of either a staff or something with daggers in the lineup. Good times.[/FONT]
  15. [FONT=Calibri]Okay. In the past few weeks I've been able to do a tidbit of planning with both Beth and [COLOR=Indigo]Indi[/COLOR] concerning a bit of up-front progression and details and such, and in the process a few other details sort of popped into place for us, but it's been a long while since the lot of us had a big powwow. Obviously we're all a lot busier nowâ??and I can attest to a long string of personal apathy, especially since coming to this particular commandâ??but I also think a distinct lack of ideas and direction has been plaguing us, and I believe I'm fairly well to blame for a good bit of that. So if there's some point in the next week or two that you guys think might be open in your schedules where you won't mind sitting down and knocking our heads together, that'd be pretty ace. (I also have a mic again, for you two who've been out of the loop somethin' major, so voice is always an option, although it might be kinda hectic, so your call). I think it'd also be a nice chance for us all to catch up with each other, find out how people have been doing. Whaddya say?[/FONT]
  16. [FONT=Calibri]Just got myself a 360 and have joined the LIVE ranks. Only got Halo Reach right now, but should be branching into other stuff as I get more games. Gamertag: [b]OculusPeregrine[/b][/FONT]

  18. [FONT=Calibri]This thread is almost four years old WHY DOES MY NAME KEEP APPEARING IN IT?!?![/FONT]
  19. [FONT-Calibri]Easiest way to put an image in your signature is to host it on a site like Photobucket or Imgur and then image-embed it here. There's also a coding guide somewhere around [url="http://www.otakuboards.com/index.php?&app=forums&module=extras&section=legends&do=bbcode"]here[/url].[/FONT]
  20. [font=Calibri]Look on the bright side. Your work week was two days this week. You have a two day work week starting tomorrow. Instead of being M/T/W/Th/F, it's M/F M/F. If it were on a Tuesday or Thursday, you would have had to go in for one stupid day for no reason at all. =P[/font]
  21. [FONT=Calibri]I have been looking for this shirt for forever. It used to be my favorite. 22. [FONT=Calibri]When I had my wisdom teeth pulled, they hooked me up to an intravenous anesthetic. Told me I might feel a little cold, and to count backwards from one hundred. I said to myself, "Okay, I'll just relax and wait, then...," and then I woke up and it was over and everything is kinda foggy after that. If you can laugh at yourself, it's actually pretty neat, hearing stuff that comes out of your mouth when you have very little conscious control. I kept trying to get the nurse helping me out to the car to hold up some fingers so I could see if my vision was messed up.[/FONT]
