Queen's greatest hits!! :D Finally found a compilation that included Bohemian Rhapsody. Why that song was left out of every Queen hits album I saw was absolutely incomprehensible, but I have it now, so I am happy. My friend, who fancies himself to be musically literate, was not aware that Queen wrote Fat Bottomed Girls, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, or Save Me. I was stunned and mildly offended. (Of course, he only listens to "songs with people singing". How eclectic. :p)

Didn't get it. I was quite occupied with AP Calculus, AP Statistics, and AP English Lit. (which was an utter joke, aside from Heart of Darkness). Really, I spent just enough time keeping up with the work to stay with the material, but there was a lot of material total, so I didn't end up lazy. Got it last semester, though, especially towards the end. I couldn't break out of it, either, which ticked me off. I intend to make it better this semester; I've started keeping lists of the things I need to get accomplished each day, which up until now I'd kept in my head. I dislike performing poorly. It makes me feel stupid.

So I get this nice little letter in my campus box today from our Office or Residential Life, and although it was very nice and courteous, its subject made me ridiculously angry. I quote ... with censors.
Dear A_______: A flash drive containing the name and social security number of students who resided in _________ __________ and ___________ residence halls last fall was recently misplaced. Although it may be possible for this information to be accessed by unauthorized individuals, we have no evidence that it has been found or used by anyone.
It went on to state what actions ResLife was taking, what actions they recommended I take (as one of the affected persons) and a decent apology. Obviously I am not mad at the way they are handling the situation (as far as I now know), but what makes me really aggravated is the first half of the first sentence. Who keeps confidential information like that on a friggin' flash drive!?!! I seriously cannot fathom that decision. There is basically no way to encrypt the data stored there. (Technically there is, but it's easy to crack according to my sources, which to me means it might as well be Cheez Wiz.) And this is not just an average person with mildly sensitive personal data. This is a total of nine entire dormitories that this drive stored information on?information that has now been potentially compromised. Now then. I propose a massive gripe session where we complain gratuitously about various administrative stupidity like this....bungle, for lack of a more appropriate word. :p Any of you guys have to deal with bonehead mistakes like that?
I never said I had fat arms, just that it looked that way in the picture. I thought it was kind of funny. Although I'm much skinnier then I am in that picture anyhow, not that that matters. I've never been very concious about my weight.
I agree (you said your arms looked fat), and that's refreshing to hear.
Oi, why don't you post a picture, Mr Morph? =p
Because I'm like that. (I should probably get an avi, though. Hunh.) And lastly, are we stretching the layout much here? Links are wonderful. :D -
My arm looks too fat in this picture though...[/url']
Do yourself a favor and never so much as think those words again unless they are actually true. I swear, I see more perfectly fine-looking girls say they look fat.... -
Does that mean? Allamorph is a god?!
Hardly. Ideally, my remains will be torched on a funeral pyre so that there are no remains. If one of my family wishes to shove a sword into the ground where my body was burnt, that'd be fine; but other than that, I want nothing. Besides, having a no-longer-occupied corpse preserved in an airtight metal box until it decomposes seems rather too silly, especially considering the expense. Heck, they even charge you out the rear for a "green" funeral, which would otherwise be an acceptable alternative. I'd rather just build my own coffin; the lumber and nails can be bought at Lowe's for much less than any old casket. But no. I want to be burnt. Not crematedâ??burnt.

Funny you should say that. Present and accounted for, Darren. Anyway, the participation angle would be my main bone as well. Honestly, I'd much rather see you playing with us 'cause I like lots of opponents, but if you think that your participation level might drop anywhere below where mine was during the P., seriously consider your decision to join. (I mean, I basically posted the bare minimum to even play that installment. Sure, my job at the time was a factor, but I still think I barely avoided being dropped a few times.) It's not that we want to rag on you. It's more that dropouts make the game far less fun. I don't think you get to choose who kills you, though. :animesmil Anyway, hooray for new faces! This shall be much fun.

She sat motionless in front of the easel, reclining comfortably against the back of the wicker chair, her left arm resting on the coffee table beside her, her right hand poised in front of her face grasping a worn wooden paintbrush. Dozens of teeth marks scarred the brush?s oak handle, and its bristles were frayed and badly spread, evidence of years of loving abuse. Her dark hair was tied back in a disheveled ponytail and a large white cloth was spread under her bare feet. Light instrumental jazz drifted out of the stereo across the room. Thinking music, she called it; it let her drift while she worked, and kept the dead spaces from becoming irritating. She stared at the unfinished landscape, looking both at it and beyond it, at what it would soon become. The tip of the brush?s handle, which was aimed at the canvas, moved fractionally from time to time, as if she was directing her thoughts through it. Occasionally she nibbled on the bristles. She leaned forward. The brush twirled dexterously through her fingers, coming to a familiar rest between her teeth. Her left hand reached down and plucked a second, smaller brush from those nearest her on the coffee table and presented it to her eyes for inspection. Rejected, it was tossed back; another was selected, this time satisfactory, and her hand moved quickly to the small open container of dark green oils further up the tabletop. The instrument dipped and carefully wiped, she returned her gaze to the canvas, settling into almost an exact mirror of her previous posture, reexamining her intentions one more time. She liked what she saw, and moved to add the strokes to the picture; a small detail on the left side, only a little tree.... ?A happy little tree.... ?Arrgh!? Adrienne slapped the paintbrush down on the table, groaning in frustration and throwing herself angrily into the chair?s back. The dog-eared paintbrush fell from her lips into her lap, and her arms dangled limply at her sides in defeat. It was absolutely unfair. ?Curse Bob Ross and his stupid trees! And his stupid hair.... Getting up, and paintbrush in hand, she crossed the room to the couch and crashed face-first into its plush cushions, groaning again because it made her feel a little better. It had been two weeks since she?d had any decent sleep. What little she did manage to get seemed to be permanently rife with nightmares, though she could never remember any of them once she?d woken. She?d tried to let her subconscious recreate some of the images she might have seen in them through her ability, but that hadn?t worked either; the best Adrienne had been able to manage so far had been misshapen blobs, with barely any color to them at all. To top it off, not only was she starting to fall behind in her graphic designing projects at work?mostly due to lack of sleep?but now Bob Freaking Ross was invading her personal time. If she couldn?t even relax anymore, how was she supposed to get anything else done? She raised her arm and pointed her brush at the ceiling. Three spheres of light obediently manifested in the air around her slender wrist and hung there, slowly circling her arm. The familiar sight of the spheres calmed her and provided a small measure of comfort; using her ability always reminded her of her father, who?d lovingly coached her ever since she?s first showed her talent to him and been a quiet, firm support even after she?d blinded her mother. In all honesty, Adrienne wasn?t certain that she?d have had the strength to keep living normally if her father had been any other man. She could only hope her children would have such an example to follow. But that was still a while off, and not a subject Adrienne was inclined to spend time fantasizing about. Still, despite her various efforts to calm herself down, Adrienne felt extraordinarily fidgety. She couldn?t keep focused on one particular task or thought for very long without her mind leaping off on barely related tangents, and now it seemed her entire body ached for movement. Maybe she needed to take a walk.... Her limbs agreed before she could even make the decision, and she found herself flitting about the apartment gathering up her shoes, keys, purse, and a light jacket for the arbitrary excursion. She didn?t know quite where she planned on going, but guessed that it didn?t matter, so long as she went somewhere.

Currently hitting Lunar's second album, Wall of Sound, pretty hard. Good electronica group, speaking from my utter wealth of experience. :p As a bonus track, they added in nice remix of a previous chart, The Unknown. I like it even more than the original, probably because it reminds me of the erratic nature of Floodlights, also from the initial Hybrid Awaken album. For those curious about it, google "Wall of Sound", go to the official site, and there you go. Google had no links to it for about three weeks, which I found curious, but it's there now. Edit: I will be looking to get several of Porcupine Tree's albums sometime soon, expenses permitting.

I don't know how many of you know about this already, but it's funny enough that I thought I'd throw it out here for you. Apparently, the team from the electronics news/reveiws-ish site gizmodo.com were supplied with those fun little TV-B-Gone remotes when they attended the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), and being real human beings, they proceeded to play the most horrible, hilarious prank I've seen in a while, given the setting. Anime The anime here in america...is it getting childish?
Allamorph replied to Humaru's topic in Otaku Central
Fox never had Pokemon, despite the fact that it's a 4Kids license.
Really? Could've sworn.... Maybe it was on abcfamily as well, or the WB or something. Hunh.
Digimon hasn't been on Fox for about 5 or 6 years, if I remember, back when it was still Fox Kids. About the time Saban went out of business and they sold the block to 4Kids.
Right, right. Toon Disney got that one, too. I remember now. It was their Jetix section, which also has Saban's stuff and Oban Star Racers (if that counts as anime), which was the podracing thing I was mumbling about. Funny about Pokémon, though, 'cause I was really sure it was FoxBox. Eh, whatever. CN has Diamond and Pearl now, so it's pretty moot.
I don't really consider . . . Ergo Proxy good.
Really? Bummer. I was hoping it was. I'll probably check it out anyway. (After Glass Fleet, though.) And those of us with [strike]college dorm[/strike] standard cable don't necessarily get Starz, IFC, AZN, or ECN-Wam. So what have you. :animesmil -
That's exactly right. Sorry I couldn't explain it well.[/COLOR']
Rubbish. You were very clear. All I did was strip out all the nonessential verbiage. You know, the stuff that makes it interesting to read, and that makes people want to join.
Umm, if anyone has any ideas for different elements people can choose from feel free to suggest them. This is what I've got so far, it will be one element per person. Water, Earth, Fire, Forest, Air, and Lightning. As well as Spirit which allows you to connect to spirits of certain things to gain abilities. So like gain the Spirit of the Cheetah to get super fast running speed, or the Spirit of the Hawk for impeccable eyesight.
Now, about these elements: are they chosen during initial sign-up? If so, that seems kind of limiting, as far as creativity is concerned. Also?and this just occurred to me?you'll need as many unique "elements" as you have players, and because you do not know currently how many players you'll have, you therefore need to have more. Since I assume you've already thought of this situation, judging by your mention of various "Spirits", what do you think about "element" rotation every round? It might make the terms a bit easier, since players don't have elements so much as they have abilities. Then the focus isn't on your particular element as a player, but on whatever ability you command that round and your ingenuity in adapting to it. You have three variables to adjust to: your situation, your element, and how you use both as creatively as possible to win. Ability rotation would also mean that you wouldn't necessarily require players to sign up with an element, though you could still do it. That's not so much a suggestion, though, as it is a random thought. I'm certain you can come up with enough abilities, but if I happen to think of any offhand, I'll be sure to check with you about them.
Surely, if the Dark One wins a challenge and then another player becomes Tainted, won't the Tainted One immediately know who the Dark One is?

Isn't it obvious to The Dark One that when someone has won a round and The Dark One suddenly loses their powers... That it's probably the person who won the round?

You must also know (and this is important) that when a challenge is done, nobody ever finds out who won the challenge except for the person who won.[/B'] I will tell them in private and give them their prize in private.
Right. That clear things up a bit? Hi-ya, White. Looks neat. So basically, all players start with three stock (like SSB), and one player loses one stock per round, unless the Dark One wins a challenge, and then two players lose one stock each that round—unless the same person is chosen by both Dark and Tainted. All deaths take place before each successive round (save the first, I assume), and after any "Dark One" switchage has occurred. Everything else is based on sheer posting creativity. That sound about right? I'm game. :animesmil
mine is the forever evil SPARTA!!
Been watching a bit too much 300 lately, have we? :smirk: I've got enough characters floating around in my head that adapting them to anime wouldn't be that much of a stretch. Among the notables are a black panther allamorph (from whose species I take my name), and a rather suicidal blue druid (whom I am incredibly fond of).

Anime The anime here in america...is it getting childish?
Allamorph replied to Humaru's topic in Otaku Central
I think that the animes here in America have gotten a wee-bit childish. I think it has a little more action, but some of the stuff on Cartoon Network is falling away from the mainstream a bit.
I hate to be the one to issue the same response over and over again, but I think this kind of post as been . . . well, posted over and over again. It seems to me that very few of us are actually reading any but the latest posts. I encourage new thread-comers to do so, so that the CN angle isn't beat to death. :animesmil Also, Cartoon Network (and the sister-channels Toonami and [adult swim]) is not the exclusive anime broadcaster, even on cable, and they haven't been for some time. I think (and stress think) that abcfamily ran Yu-Gi-Oh! for a while, and Fox had Pokémon, Digimon, and a few others on their FoxBox thingamajigger, assuming I remember right. (I think Yu-Gi-Oh! GX was there for a while, too.) Toon Disney, up until it ceased being aired on cable, had some stuff; Dragon Booster and Get Ed! were among the more menial, but I think they had some others as well. I recall watching a few episodes of an anime revolving around something like podracing..... Anyway, even though Cartoon Network may have abandoned decent shows like Looney Tunes and School House Rock in favor of My Gym Partner Is A Monkey and other such crap, don't judge it completely based on its daytime schedule. Stay up 'til about three in the morning and you'll probably catch something good. Like Big O. They put it back on. And if you run into Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job!, don't blame me. Have patience. :p -
The point of the game is to be the last owner standing. Obviously if there were no defined, structured way to go about eliminating characters, a player could simply off all of his opponents in a single, ridiculous post. :p The "cards" allow players to eliminate opposing characters while adding an element of strategy into the mix. Hence the whole concept of Death Cards. As for the death aspect, I know of no other way the game could be played and still remain interesting. Sure, one could go the voting off route, but that's been done already, and things like deletion and banishment are essentially the same as death, don't you think?
On the contrary. Monty Python is pleasantly nonsensical, not shrilly random. ;)
And I find that "We're Knights of the Round Table" and Arthur Lemming of the BDA are extremely random. :animesmil Yay semantics.
and to make matters worst, they got the VA for Shinji (NGE)...
Oh, THAT'S who that was. I thought he sounded familiar. That actor worked for Shinji ? because, well, he was ... Shinji ? but no one else. And yes, he is incredibly grating, even more than Naruto's VA. (But not more than Pope Alessandro's. Ye gods.)
Maybe its because FLCL has some "adult" humor, whereas...Bobobo is about fighting hair... I don't see any attraction in a ****** with an afro fighting with his hair.
Oh, come on. Fist of the North Star? Fist of the Nose Hair? It's hilarious once you get it. I like it because it makes complete fun of what fighting anime feel like to me. It's like Stargate SG-1 episode 200. Just there to be stupid and have some o' the ole ultra-fun. As a side note, the "Unfair World Tour Ultimate Attack", or whatever it was called, was absolutely great. "This is SO NOT FAAIIIIRRR!!" :p
