1. I dislike the one-phrase 'lumping' solution. True, it solve the problem of connotation by throwing everything in the same boat, but it could still be argued that the category Music already does the exact same thing ? except that we're still leaving theatre out of the total picture. Right now I'm trying to think of a way to stick with a tripartite heading, since it feels good to have that kind of separation. Unfortunately, the only way that'd work is if Movies and TV were lumped into one category, which is difficult to do because the two genres are still quite different forms of entertainment. At present, all I can come up with is Music, Visual Entertainment, and the Arts. There's still the "Entertainment" hassle, but I think that the "Visual" clarifier alleviates the redundancy ... and at least there's no "Media" involved. :p I'm not sure I completely like "Visual Entertainment" as the end-all solution, but I figure if I throw the thought out here someone else might have a brain spasm and hit on something I'm missing.
 2.
I would literally pay to see the advert to that. I can see it now, a bit photo of some miserable looking guy giving a thumbs up with a fake smile.
Like Smilin' Bob, but sans the Viagra.
 3. I'm back with the line-up, if anyone cares. :p But then again, I'm also Siamese if you don't please, so whatever. I've only got through the end of September right now. Hopefully I'll keep up with this better as soon as the school year gets started again and I'm alive at normal hours. Current line-up: ---------------------------------------------------- Saturday: Aug. 4 - Sept. 22 11:00 pm: Futurama 11:30 pm: Crayon Shin-Chan 12:00 am: Bleach 12:30 am: Blood + 1:00 am: GitS SAC, 2nd GiG 1:30 am: Trinity Blood 2:00 am: Astro Boy Except for Aug. 25: Futurama Marathon (again, by God!) Sept. 29: BK HAVE IT YOUR WAY night. (I hope this one's as awesome as the FLCL marathon last time.) Sunday: Aug. 5 - Sept. 2 10:00 pm: Futurama (hour slot) 11:00 pm: Family Guy 11:30 pm: Robot Chicken / Metalocalypse 12:00 am: Frisky Dingo / Moral Orel 12:30 am: The Venture Brothers 1:00 am: The Oblongs 1:30 am: Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job! / Tom Goes to the Mayor Sept. 9 - 30 10:00 pm: Futurama (hour slot) 11:00 pm: Family Guy 11:30 pm: Robot Chicken / Metalocalypse 12:00 am: Frisky Dingo / Lucy (?) 12:30 am: The Venture Brothers 1:00 am: The Oblongs 1:30 am: Tim and Eric / TGTTM [strike]Not sure what "Lucy" is – I couldn't find anything. When/if I figure it out, I'll edit.[/strike] Show title is Lucy, Daughter of the Devil. Have fun. Mon. - Fri.: (This one gets a bit interesting, so bear with me.) Futurama runs at 11:00, and Family Guy at 11:30. Midnight is a wacky slot. Robot Chicken / Aqua Teen Hunger Force will finish out the week, and [as] switches to Harvey Birdman / Frisky Dingo starting the 6th. On the 27th, Saul of the Mole Men takes over for Frisky, and that pairing lasts until the Birdman two-parter airs Sept. 28. After that, it swaps to Squidbillies / ATHF. Talk about the runaround. In the next slot, Bleach runs until Aug. 17 (Ep. 45), after which Blood+ starts up. Saya keeps the twelve-thirty through Sept. 21, and then Bleach starts back up the Monday after. At 1:00 am is FMA. That runs through the series end, and then loops back to pick up Eps. 1 & 2. (Why they do this every time, I don't know. Maybe it's to finish out the week....) Sept. 17, which is the week after, marks Cowboy Bebop's return. InuYasha gets the 1:30 and the 2:00, airing through Ep. 167 on Sept. 24th. After that, they start over from the top. All times EST, unless I missed something. ---------------------------------------------------- Whew. Hope this makes somebody happy. At any rate, it's here for the viewing. -A Edit: I did miss something. ATHF marathon runs tonight (i.e., the 13th). I forgot to mention it earlier. Oops.
 4. The SAT should seriously consider this as possible advertising material. "Absinence got me into Harvard!!!"
 5.
I think we can just rename Music/Movies/TV to 'Otaku Entertainment' and call it a day, really. -Shy
Ehh, we already have an Entertainment category, right? I think Aceburner's suggestion was more along the specific lines of the fine arts. I see his point, since the general connotation of the Music area is more current/popular bands and what. Stuff like drama, theatre, musicals, and the London Phil aren't hit on much, true, but that could be 'cause there's no real place for it. Them. Whatever. True, Music can be thought of as a coverall for this matter, but I don't see that being widely picked up on. Then again, I doubt the popularity of a discussion of music theory. Musicals and plays might garner some decent attention, but there's only so much you can do....
This may need to involve a name change for the forum. We did have a new name in mind,....
Do tell. This is about the decline in popularity of the Anime Lounge, no? Nnnn..... It's true that that sector isn't really a hotspot, I suppose. For myself, I find it difficult to get into discussions of shows I haven't seen yet, which is why I'm usually not over there. (I need to update the [as] line-up ? as if anybody cares. :p ) It's not that I'm not into anime; I am, really. Very much so. It's just that my resources are limited, and I can't go about buying/renting series at each random whim. My funds all get prioritized...mostly into college stuff, but I have three sibling birthdays to think about as well if I have anything left over. It says something that, in the four years I've been watching anime, the only series I've managed to see completely has been Trinity Blood, and that I just barely managed. Without YouTube, thankyouverymuch. It's not that I'm not interested, it's because I have nothing to input at present. The same might be true of other members, or it might not, but it's a possible explanation. If the name right now bothers enough people, go ahead and change it. All I'm saying is that I don't have a bone with it. And I'm still fairly new here.
 6. I suppose I'll assume that the chart is a perfect bell curve, since I can't link to the image.
So next time you get a bad grade based on the bell curve, you can totally blame your parents or genetics! lol
Or the fact that you haven't been laid. :p Seriously, though, the relationship could in fact be the other direction, and a person's intelligence could be determined by a combination of how many times/how frequently they've had sex, and how hard they've been trying. (Yeah, my IQ's pretty high.... :animeknow)
 7.
Otaku! OTAKU![/u']
Sheeez, man, give me some credit. (^_^) I'm personally more in favor of the Event option than the S&F. I think it might get more action that way; at the very least it'd require no preknowledge of the forum, so the attraction for newer members to contribute might be higher. (I think. I couldn't say for certain.) If it were made into an event, we could ask that a variety of members advertise it. At the very least, an announcement should be made ... but I'm sure James already knows that. The idea is growing on me. I'm perfectly fine with being just another member, but every now and again you get to hankerin' for somethin' corny.... :p It'd be funnier to incorporate posting style into the titles along with the count, but I don't see that being at all realistic. Oh well.
 8. Spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, eggs, and spam. Spammity-spam, spam spam, spammit. (Sorry. Just had to get that out of my systems.) I'm sure the ranking thingummy would go over with some members. I think, though, that if I ever hit 10,000 posts, I'd either have to be in my forties or be contemplating suicide. :p That's so far beyond no-lifer that I'd actually be having to give parts of it back. And I like my life, thank you.
Yes please, let's put in more effort to get ourselves names that are supposedly NOT good proclamations[/U'].
What, you mean like Rat Boy?
 9. ?'OtakuBot Emergency self-destruct button,' eh?? El Kabong laughed as he placed his hand on the machine's chest, ?Don?t mind if I do!? "Oh bugger." Grabbing Sanguinius's shoulder, I spun and crashed us into the dirt. The explosion pressed us down hard; my teeth ground together at the force of its pressure, and I clenched my eyes shut against the flying sand. The moment it passed, I hauled my comrade to his feet, shoving him harshly forward. "Run!" I cried, after spitting out a mouthful of dirt. "I'm right behind you!" That, I reflected, was what I got for being so long gone. I must have passed out in the ether after completely draining myself. When or how I got back to HQ ? or rather, its ruins ? I couldn't exactly recall. My head was starting to come back to me, though, and it occurred to me that in my current state I was ill-equipped to handle such an arbitrary scenario. I focused while I ran. ?Let's see. What was it? Oh, right: click left analog stick for view shifts.... -------------- Shades stumbled as he fled, nearly pitching headlong into the sand. Sanguinius shot a concerned glance backwards. "You okay?" he called. "Yeah, I'm fine," returned Shades. "Don't worry about it." They ran for a few more minutes before pulling to a halt. Neither said anything at first, too busy catching their breath. They exchanged looks while they panted: Sanguinius's tired, Shades' wry. "Drat," Shades pronounced finally. "Amen," agreed Sanguinius. "Now what?" "Well, obviously we need to reconnoiter with Fluff and the Blither-Man." "Who?" Shades grinned. "Webster, I mean. Sorry," he added. Sanguinius gave him a strange look. "Okay," he went on, "we know we need to find them and stay with them, but it'd probably help if we knew where we were." "Possibly. Of course, it'd be just as well if we knew where they were." "I don't follow." "You will in a second...." Shades trailed off, then gave a slight start. "Got 'em. We go thataway." He pointed as he spoke. "At least you can follow me physically if you can't conceptually. But eh. Let's go."
 10.
Also, those of you who offered to be editors, speak up and let me know if you have time and I'll get what I have sent off to you so you can get it back to me next week. I also need to know if others have articles that they are finishing up, or reviews and news to submit.
I've just been sitting here, waiting for a go. Anytime you want, ma'am. :animesmil
 11. I don't know. Does it? Good grief, man, yes. I'm just a jerk; you know that already. :p
 12.
So who's up for the task, huh? ;D
I wonder. So, these flaws could range from minor trivial inconsistencies to full-out failures, right? (Not that I expect full-out failures ? but just in case. :animesmil )
 13.
White Gave Me Contact High[/color']
I think your face is melting.
 14. I also do not understand the concept behind self-harm. I understand how some can choose it as an avenue for release, but not the act itself. Basically, self-harm boils down to an escape tactic, falling in with overtly 'negative' conditions, such as drug or alcohol abuse, and also innocuous tactics, like workaholism, video games, or creative writing. I've always preferred fighting my sources of stress and anxiety directly, so I can be rid of them and not open myself to any addictions by that route. (Lord knows its easy enough for me to overdo things anyway. :animesmil)
 15.
...as if Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, or Goosebumps required much brainpower? lol
Hey, something's better than nothing, eh? (^_^) If nothing else, they were at least decent prep-work for Holmes. Encyclopedia Brown was also pretty good; I can't believe I left Sobol out. Ah, wait! How can we be forgetting Dr. Seuss?!
 16. Heh. Another one of those lovely ambiguous topics. Smashing. Cosmetic/plastic surgery does have its merits. Skin grafts for severe burn victims, for example, or other reparations of badly damaged body parts, like ears or my friend's hand (he was born with a second thumb on one hand). ...or to correct imbalances, like in Japan's case. :animeshy: However, I vehemently disagree with using this avenue as a means to enhance 'beauty' beyond the natural state. I can understand some possible self-esteem issues with young girls, but I'm one of those peculiar guys who prefers to look at someone's face during a conversation ,and not to stare at her chest. Heaven know large bosoms tend to draw a guy's attention. But I cannot understand the obsession with the ongoing attempt to 'stay young'. Again, this may just be one of my peculiarities, but I find age respectable. So you have a few wrinkles around your eyes. So what? Give me slightly sagging skin over a grinning jack-o'-lantern any day. It's just creepy talking to Skeletor, ya know?
 17.
Are you people fucking kidding me? All these lame-ass Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and Goosebumps yet... ...no Where The Wild Things Are???
I think I've read it once or twice, but that's about it. I lost interest in that style around the time I became interested in Conan Doyle and Fleming (which was around second grade or so). Besides, Where the Wild Things Are required nothing mentally on my part. ;)
 18. Hi. Jumping in again.
Hmmm... I was really hoping to see that the other judges had commented by now....
Indeed. In light of recent comments, I feel like BK needs some defending. So here we go.
But as Crystia put it, anytime something is more than 30 words long, it needs to be reorganized.
Eh? What's this about a word limit? I find it extremely difficult to believe that any one sentence, simply because it is somewhat lengthy, can end up tiring the reader to the point that they can no longer recall what the sentence was originally supposed to be about. (Again with my facetiousness.) I agree that perhaps one should consider reconstructing long sentences, but I sincerely doubt that one can place a definite number to the appropriate word count of a given sentence. Also, points are not always best expressed in two or three breaths. Some require that only one be used, so as to achieve the desired effect. As to the sentence in question,...
Showing great promise and knowledge in the study of the stars and ancient space relics and phenomena in past symposiums and showcasing irrefutable proof of great findings that not even top scientists could interpret, Benjamin Crux and Jenna Meliana were chosen as representatives of the United Nations as part of the team to ensure a way to activate the gate within the Triangle.
...it's basically fine. I could tweak it a bit, to perhaps get it to flow better, but that's about it. And Rach, the point/subject/verb/main-thingummy was at the end of this one.... :animeswea Right. *waits impatiently for Revelation and Ezekiel*
 19. *pokes head in* Yoko frikkin' Kanno. That is all. *pops out*
 20.
Oh, not established characters... if I get your meaning... what I meant to say was players can character characters anyway they wanted. From dragons to humans to Jedi's to Mortal Kombat rip-offs all the way to a pair of boxing gloves that fight themselves.[/B'] From any era in anywhere in the Universe - their choice. No limit on the character, provided their not godlike.
So, lemme get this straight: if someone wants to play as Master and Crazy Hand.... :p I'm curious about the Deathmatch. I get the "who dies and when, by who" deal, but is the rest just basically a mad posting frenzy until somebody gets the thumbs-down? Or will a player on the list just swoop in and say "MINE!", and then start the skirmish? Everything else makes sense.
 21.
Hope this answers your questions.
Well enough. Thank you. I've got an image in my head to start me off. Given my schedule, I should be finished tweaking by the end of the week ? meaning only about two to three hours of actual writing. :animeangr (I hate graveyard shift.)
 22. So, umm, what's the current economic norm at the moment? Still kinda like-now-ish, or (more likely) approaching interesting levels of poverty? I mean, I'm not thinking as bad as the Smokers from Waterworld, but if there are Scavengers then it stand to reason that people are in a scavenge-y situation. Since Russia has its own oil wells and refineries, I think it's safe to assume that vehicular transport is still an option. I'm thinking rationing, though, with priority deference to, well, whoever has 'priority'. Also, what's the current weapon situation? I definitely want to steer away from gratuitousness with my character, but I'm not sure how far that extends inwards. (This kind of ties in with the whole money angle, so I'm thinking that if you give me a picture there, I'll be able to work out something.) I like the idea. I hope it goes.
 23.
// blah blah blah, bunch of .... things .....
Dude. Everytime you post here, I find new limits for the heights my eyebrows can hit. :animestun Seems like we haven't spent too much time on the nightmare aspect. It makes me curious. As far as I can recall, I've only had one definite nightmare ... no, make that two. I had one last semester that had me wigged out for a week. I doubt that most people would call the first one I had an actual nightmare unless their mental disposition is remarkably similar to my own. You know those police video shows, where they show people being arrested with those digitalized blurry square things over their faces? In this dream, I was on the other side of that thing. That was all I could see: digital, blurry squares, everywhere. It lasted for about a minute, or maybe thirty (perceptually speaking), and I got so worked up that I woke up in the process of sitting up, and my sweat was cold. In the second one, my mind basically took all of my memories from about the time I was eight, shoved them into a box, and made up eleven years worth of completely new ones based around the idea that the big interstate move our family went through had never happened. The dream itself lasted for about a day in dream-time, with me at the same relative age I am now, and when I woke up I literally had no idea who I was. It was about six seconds before my original memories 'rebooted', so to speak; during that time, all I could do was stare dumbly at my wall and wonder what had just happened ? I think I might have accidentally sworn, but I can't quite remember anymore. (Shut up.:p) That dream caused me to almost fail two quizzes.
 24.
You people are silly. :p Wide-ruled paper is great stuff. Especially if you don't have tiny neat handwriting.
Bah. The size of one's handwriting is controllable. You're just making excuses. Your aunt, however, has a legitimate reason. I get two different types of block: block where I can't see anything and block when I can't write down what I can see. Honestly, if I have utterly no creative muse, then it is a really bad day. Usually days where I can't even come up with scene one are also days when I feel slightly murderous. (As in, "slightly" is a nicety.) I know the two are connected, but I'm not certain which one influences which. Whether or not I have writer's block while I'm in commune with my muse is another story. Normally it takes me about an hour of watching a particular scene repeatedly before I am able to put down the first word. (Naturally, I hate timed writing.) As such, I am quite used to staring at a piece of blank looseleaf college-rule notebook paper *cough* for long periods of time without accomplishing anything. The problem stems from my inability to accurately translate visuals to words, since I get hung up on a word not sounding right, but I get over this barrier eventually. And once I get the first few words or sentences down, I typically start flowing pretty well. I get blocked when I'm partways in and the next word either won't come, or the one I have doesn't sound right and a suitable synonym won't come. I've spent days in this predicament, grinding away at the errant sentence in my head while trying to act like I'm still a conscious human being. (Ironically, the word usually returns to me at the exact moment that I have nothing to write with, or even on ? discounting myself.) Patience is the only sure cure for either of them. You can listen to music, read, do something completely different, whatever works for you. Bottom line is that you give it time and don't force it.
 25.
Wide rule is silly.
QFT Writing on wide-rule paper is like riding a kiddie bike with training wheels. You feel like a gigantic monkey the entire time.
