Since the I'm in my pants joke is stale and old....[/COLOR']
Yeah, guys, I totally used the line first, and in the first reply no less. Read the stinking thread, please! :p Unless you enjoy coming off like a total poser. In which case might I suggest finding a better person to pose as than myself.

Also Boo's the guy in charge of this here forum. It'd be a better idea to say 'yeah okay' if you feel you need to say something than it is to try and justify yourself. All justification attempts do is waste his patience and everyone else's time. I mean, we try to give people the benefit of the doubt anyway. No real need to give a play by play.
The American education system is renouned globally for largely ignoring anything that isn't American.
Bam. Seriously, I know precisely Jack Dit about anything outside the States. And we're complaining/arguing about certain facets and details that might be getting ignored? Feh. Guess I should be serious now. Part of the reason there doesn't seem to be much emphasis on the contributions of the Negro community to US history is that the US is a still relatively new. We haven't had time for our history to develop to such an extent to be able to include everyone fairly?and even then, at the formation of our country we were still basically European (didn't identify ourselves as US Citizens until some point after the Revolution), and Europe at that time was still plagued with the mindset that black people were inferior, so quite obviously nothing given by Negroes at that point would be taken seriously. The fact that we even have a Black History Month is testament in itself. As far as the "why isn't there a white history month" . . . so far, I'm pretty sure everyone who's brought that line up has been facetious about it. I'd kinda like to see the snipping about that die down, 'cause most of us white folk don't really care about having a month of focus on our own history. As for other ethnicities 'not needing' their own history month . . . no one really needs one. So why not have one for the other guys? It certainly wouldn't hurt no one. Then again, this is the US. We're supposed to be a melting pot of culture. Celebrating individual facets is by no means wrong . . . but shouldn't we also look at people who work together without care about racial/ethnic differences? We're all the same dang people, after all.
I'm still pretty sure the majority of high school students have no idea what Songhai and Mali are. I didn't know what they were, and I went to a well-respected high school.
That is her point. She knows, and yet we do not. Obviously the system and its standards have degenerated. Retribution, learn to hold your tongue.
Because if the memories already contained such power to begin with, what need would there be to scatter them at all?
They're the reason for the interdimensional journey in the first place. The party has traveled between dimensions to retrieve them, and the power of the memories plus the dimensional imprinting are key aspects to Fei Wong's plan. I mean, what better way to get someone to want to aid your plan in the first place than to make the conditions the very thing that gives a friend life? What's disconcerting is that Fei Wong knew about Syaoran even before he first visited Yuuko. His plan was in action with Syaoran as a factor long before Syaoran even knew about Clow country. And that brings me back to the first question. Who is Clow Reed? -

And yet we've learned basically nothing new here. That feather back in Tokyo has been bothering me for a while now, and now that that loose thread has been woven back in maybe we'll get to see some of Fei Wong's ulterior motive. Have to say, though, not too terribly shocked at the 'unparalleled power' card. I mean, isn't that kind of a given for people who are trying to break the laws of existence itself? Not that I'm calling CLAMP on being unoriginal by any means, just that I think the concept is kind of unavoidable, so it becomes more of a "nodnod" kinda deal. On second inspection, though, I'd have to say Ace is wrong. The entire journey, remember, was to have memories of each dimension imprinted on Cherry B.'s body. Without that imprint, Fei Wong couldn't collapse the interdimensional barriers even if he gained the power of all the feathers. This last feather, then, is less the Ultimate Feather and more a Trump Card. Fei Wong pulls everyone back to Tokyo, where the feather had lain almost forgotten by the heroes, and says "Now my journey to the dark side is complete." Wham, bam, thank-you-ma'am. Really, aside from the complete reason Fei Wong wants to shatter the universe to pieces, my only question is how do those memories (remember, that's what the feathers represent: memories in corporeal form) emit such strong magical power? Kei? Any thoughts? -
f y's limits are stated as GREATER than 8, how can you set Y? Wouldn't X just = 3/4 Y?
It would, but that's not the last step for what you're asked to examine. y's limits are set by the statement y > 8, since that's what's you're asked to assume with the 'if' statement.. This means that y could be any number from 8 to infinity. The only definite concept you can bring out of this is that the lower boundary of y is 8. y can be 8.01, 8.001, 8.0001, etc., as long as it does not actually make it to 8. But that's ridiculous to think about. So we temporarily come at the problem another way; namely, 'if y = 8, what is x?'. Solving this equation will give us 's lower boundary, which is 6 . . . but since y is the set of all numbers greater than 8, x has to be the set of all real numbers greater than 6. And you still don't know either of the suckers. Ain't that fun? :animesmil

I apologise for not getting around to voting in the second match this partial-round. I was nasty sick from Tuesday evening until yesterday morning, and I'm still not completely over it. Just couldn't get any coherent thoughts together. I should be fine for the last stuff, though.

Unfortunate that I have to break up the party now. DeLarge, you've been around the boards for some time, accounts and handles notwithstanding, so I'm sure you remember the forum rules being scaled back; and I know you've been around long enough to read them at least once, so I'm surprised to have to do this. The content of your latest chapter was unacceptable. As James made clear in the Content and Quality Standards, this is a family-oriented site, and your humor recently has been nowhere near tasteful. As much as I hate to begin censoring the writers here, you have one week to rewrite and clean up your fan fiction?all of it?or it will be taken down. ------------- I've been extremely forgiving about the works posted in this forum so far, scanning most posts and giving them the benefit of the doubt. I wish I could keep doing that. From now on, I will be closely monitoring all works posted here for content. Any new works deemed excessive or unnecessary will be notified for editing. Any already posted works deemed such will be resolved through private messages. Seriously, guys. Keep it tasteful and I don't have to be a jerk.

Hmm. Might want to check out Atomic Robo, done by the same guy who writes 8-bit Theater. Read a teaser, and style is very DC without a lot of the newer Nihilistic outlooks that seem to be becoming popular. Good bit of casual humor, and doesn't go over the top. I smiled when I read some.
So basically, it took me a while to get this, but assuming that any character is supposed to look Caucasian is very much a Western way of viewing it.
Well, what other way do I have of looking at it? :p Biggest striking difference to me between "Eastern" and "Western" viewpoints is that over here in the West there is a remarkable number of all ethnicities available. There isn't a clear definition of features over here, unless you count the aboriginal for the North American continent. So I really don't have a setting issue with Japanese shows in general because I'm used to seeing all kinds of people around me. The article is right, for I equate what I am accustomed to seeing with what I'm presented. So when I see a character who has blond hair and blue eyes?or even light brown hair and green eyes?I do think of "Western" bloodlines. And obviously I'm leaving out a great deal of the hair-spectrum, since of course no one is going to have pink hair naturally. But that doesn't extend to characters who can be either or. I don't watch shows and assume characters are supposed to be Caucasian?especially when the show is set in Neo Tokyo. :p I factor in what I'm given. If a character has dark skin, I think they are either Negro or Islander in descent. If they have Aryan features, I assume Germanic descent, or something along those lines. If they have dark-brownish hair and dark eyes, I can't really assume anything. And if I'm reading Cyanide and Happiness and see a round circle with a square body, I assume it's a thing. :p I do have one bone with the article itself, though.
Second, the notion that the Japanese harbor an inferiority complex vis-a-vis the White West seems to me based on the largely unconscious assumption that non-Western peoples envy the West, and more specifically on the American fantasy that everyone in the world naturally wants to be American.
That may be, but what ethnic markers does an "American" have? And (tangent), is that fantasy actually prevalent in our society? Half of the time I feel uncultured simply because I only know the one language.
No offense, but I think trying to justify myself on the internet is nearly impossible.
Never stopped me. And also no offense, but it's not. It's easier than doing so in real life, in fact, since you can devote much more time to your own thoughts and reasonings and justifications than you can in conversation. But eh. My lines have been drawn earlier in the thread. So.

Little late to the dance here. As far as casting for live actions of animated shows goes, I usually call any cultural mis-casting as fault of the original show's animators. In almost all of the shows I've seen, the characters look completely Caucasian, or at least European. Setting, cultural background, and inherent references aside, if you're going to make a show about Japanese people, make them look Japanese and I'll believe they're Japanese. Avatar doesn't fall under that category for me. In fact, the only character I remember looking even remotely Caucasian was Zuko, and that was iffy at best. So I think a white person should be cast for Avatar about as much as I think a white person should have been cast for Hiro (Heroes). Cain't mix oil and water.

I Forgot What You People Look Like - (thread) Surviving on the front page of the Lounge for a year and a half, it serves no other purpose than to let members show they are real people. Most of us, anyway.
