Man. I just watched episode 8 of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann[/B'] yesterday.
I find it a little amusing that Conrad actually called this one, back on page one. If you don't know who I'm talking about, look for the glaring orange typeface.

Funtime Thread of Humor and Mirth (and Junk.)

Serious buyers? Who could stay serious after that poster? -
I know you can edit and make breaks and that's all well and good. But it all comes down to, just as Justin said, just being able to add a post to your story instead of editing, deleting, copying, pasting, is a time saver. It allows for more time to write, and it may just be me, but the presentation is much better
Now, I have a question about this idea. Are you writing your story in the postbox itself? Or have you written it somewhere else, and are posting it here for a showcase mechanism? If you're writing it inside the post box, then I suggest NOT doing so and using an outside word processor instead. Writing your story elsewhere will do three things for you:

It will give you an easily accessible place to store your work for future reference, should you decide you want to showcase it outside of the boards. If you write only on the site, then you have to go through the tedious process of sifting through every thread you've started, and that could potentially be pages of stuff you won't needâ??especially if you don't remember what you called it. Also, your hard drive is obviously more accessible than the internet, so your work would be quicker to get at.
It will release you from being limited by inactivity of other critics. Let's face it, OtakuBoards's Anthology section is pretty much dead. No one wants to step out of their comfort zone to show support for a work by someone they don't even know (also known as 'clique syndrome'), and they don't want to offer criticism for fear that someone will tell them they're wrong. Relying on other posters to provide your breaks and bumps for you isn't the logical way to go, and a word processor will allow you to continue on with your fiction independently of the silence of the elitists.
It will save you time in posting and editing. If you're writing the fiction here, then you have to deal with the confines of the post box. That means, like you said, you must copy the entire previous material, delete the post, repost the material, and then start adding your newly inspired stuff. A word processor, by allowing you to continue your work away from the post box, will save you time in that regard; all you have to do is delete the post and repost all of your work to date, excluding whatever you put into your initial post. Since you already wrote the fiction somewhere else, you don't have to worry about delete-bumping wasting your time, and you can also add to the story if you don't happen to have access to the Boards.
If, however, you are using a word processor to store your stuff in, then I'm not sure what you mean by 'wasting time'. It seems like only the addition of a couple more seconds this way.
...but that's just 'cause I am an Aspie. :P
AHAA!! I knew there was something . . . a bit like something I sensed . . . when I . . . . Oh bugger it. It feels like it makes sense. As long as you don't use it as an excuse. For my next trick, Choose Your Own Adventure!
The party has successfully infiltrated the vampire stronghold and captured the main security center. The blue veteran, who seems to have taken on the position of unspoken leader, had designated the operation initially as an informational run, and having previously discovered a set of caverns underneath the resort, wishes to check it out. His sister, meanwhile, is quietly bent on retribution for the slaughter of her former associates, and heads off in the opposite direction with Phaidra, Sarvel, and her brother's familiar. If you want to follow the efforts of the female hit squad, turn to page 56. If you are curious what secrets lie beneath the resort, turn to page 31.
I don't really care which way we go, guys; I can do either or. Somebody make the call. :p

It looks like a movie made to make money off of a movie made to make money. I see nothing of value in this flick, less than I saw in the first Scorpion King. That movie had some merit, at least. This one just wants to be a CG showcase, with girls for the guys to drool over and guys for the girls to "mmm, honey" at.

I see spoken words as text. ....sort of. It's more like I can feel/see them just behind my vision while I'm in a conversation. But because of this, I also hear all written text as if someone is speaking it, and my interpretations of inflection are generally accurate. I also have difficulty looking into the eyes of the person I'm speaking to for longer than three seconds. I don't really know why. I do know that if I look into their eyes while they're speaking, I can almost see who they are. It's kinda freaky.

I'm going with Sayrin. I agree with White that the Joker figured dominantly in the movie, and although I like both Sayrin's and Cat's to that end, I like the way Sayrin made the Joker the sole focus. If Cat had, say, taken a front angle of Joker and a rear view of Batman, then I probably would have voted the other way. The reversal of those positions might have created an entirely different atmosphere, I think.

Beijing 2008 Olympics (Should China Play Host?)
Allamorph replied to vegeta rocker's topic in General Discussion
That's probably true. vegeta rocker could have done a better job with the thread title. Be that as it may, though, the opening post was explicitly clear.
Yes. Which is why I dismissed it.
Well, it was raised back then. And it continues to be raised today, for very legitimate reasons.
That's not the problem I'm seeing. The problem is one of usefulness. Will a discussion of China's right to host this year's games do anything now? No. And yes, I know the issue was raised then, but since the decision to allow them to host was made back then as well, continuing the debate (again, over their right to host this year's games, which was the specific intent of the OPer) serves absolutely no purpose. Absolutely none. If we were discussing their right to host any future games, or hosting rights and governmental ethics in general, then I would not be descrying this thread quite so intensely. Such an issue is, as you have said, a legitimate topic, and one that should definitely be addressed.
As Rach said, there's now an increased scrutiny on what happens within China. How can that be a bad thing, if it sheds light on human rights atrocities?
See, that's the whole thing with discussing future rights. Discussing flaws and a need for change is great. Debating a decision that cannot be reversed is . . . well, downright silly.
That's odd, given the number of replies and the depth of the discussion.
What, thirty-seven replies? [strike]Eleven[/strike] Sorry, twelve of those were discussion of the games themselves, and at least twelve more now have been debating the legitimacy of the intended topic—which stemmed from my and Darren's efforts to discuss only the games in the first place. Confounding variables there, methinks. I'm not entirely sure this thread would have had quite as much depth if I hadn't tried to change the subject.
If this discussion raised no strong opinions, people simply wouldn't post.
I almost didn't. But then I realized that more people than me wanted to discuss something that didn't need strong opinions. Also, the Funtime thread presents no discussion material, and yet people post there in droves, getting their borogoves all mimsy and outgrabing their mome raths. Snicker-snack to that point. :p
Anyway I've edited the thread title to reflect vegeta rocker's intentions. Hopefully that will no longer be an issue.
Yeah, and from this point forward I'll only add to the discussion if I have something that directly pertains to it. I understand you, and I hope you understand me, so I doubt this line of speaking holds any more value, either. -

Beijing 2008 Olympics (Should China Play Host?)
Allamorph replied to vegeta rocker's topic in General Discussion
...if you dismiss the very real concerns of those who have made comment about China during these Games, you imply[/i'] that these matters are not of utmost importance.
True. However, when the Olympics are used as the venue for discussion of the erroneous ways of the host country, then I tend to dismiss the speaker, since they then appear to be drawing an audience by using false advertising. If the thread topic is China's government and its flaws, then the title should not merely be The Olympics, but perhaps The Olympics: Why China Should Not Have Hosted. Also, I view the practicality of debating China's right to host at this point in time as very low. If we already have four finalist cities for the games eight years from now, and the current games are already ongoing, is there really a point in raising a stink? Shouldn't that have been done back in 2000, when it might have done something? Incidentally, I sincerely doubt that the current discussion is doing anything for anyone. -
I suppose it's because their voices just sound, how do I put it...fake. It's like they're not really singing, but trying to act out the song vocally.
Incidentally, that's what vocal majors get trained in on the collegiate level. In fact, getting the right emotions into the voice while singing is a skill that some singers struggle to master. No, my dislike of them has two reasons. They sold out to Disney, and they write pop. And who the heck has been praising Fall Out Boy? My gosh. :p

Beijing 2008 Olympics (Should China Play Host?)
Allamorph replied to vegeta rocker's topic in General Discussion
Of course, you can't blame it all on her, even if she was the only one who fell. (Twice!) I think that the coach is also to blame, and it's not like all of the other girls were perfect.
I don't think it's right to blame anything on anyone, really. The whole mess was just a few ill-timed accidents and a team-wide shaken confidence compounded by nerves. No one's fault. I'm going to see if I can find some recordings of any archery competitions. I dig that kind of stuff. I did manage to see the North Korean men barely keep their grip on the gold in the team event; if Italy hadn't had those two sevens, it would have been a whole different story, and a major upset. Ridiculous fun to watch, though. -
Beijing 2008 Olympics (Should China Play Host?)
Allamorph replied to vegeta rocker's topic in General Discussion
And here I was, thinking this thread was about discussing what you like about the olympics and what events you were watching... Darn :animedepr
So change the subject already. =P Besides, who wants to discuss politics anyway? Bunch of self-inflated garbage.... So the American gymnasts had a rough go last night. Nasty bobble there at the balance beam, and then a big mistake on the floor and everyone was shaken up. And China looked absolutely scary on the uneven bars. My gosh, did they deserve the gold, but I think the US was capable of more than they gave, and just had a run of nerves and bad luck. Speaking of difficulty, Roger Federer's match against the El Salvador representative was a bit strange. The current number one ranked tennis male, and he can't take out a relatively unknown face who has barely any power to his swing? Federer did win, but Aravelo gave him a good run. I remember some uproar over the current scoring system for boxing.... And can someone tell me why badminton is recognized as an Olympic sport? -

"So let me get this straight," remarked Claget as he steered the car onto a small gravel access road, "you had your stuff delivered to a public storage facility?" "Yes, why?" Nicholas returned, watching the markers on the rows of garages pass by. "I dunno. I suppose when you said 'drop box' I thought you meant something like a P.O. box." Nicholas gave his partner a sidelong glance. "You think I'd have a handgun," he said slowly, raising an eyebrow, "shipped to a post office . . . in the middle of a city." Claget opened his mouth and closed it again. "Good point," he said. "Turn here." Claget complied, and Nicholas went back to counting freight containers and wondering why a Hunter would make such a ridiculous assumption in the first place. Technically, Hunters were vigilantes, and vigilantes never lasted long if they went out of their way to alert authorities. Using a post office box for acquiring weapons was almost like waving to the Nice Policeman while having a full-blown shootout on the streets of Baltimore at high noon. Of course, the rash of precinct shootings lately wasn't exactly subtle, either. Nicholas made a note to have Claget start wiping down his shell casings before loading his magazines. He also added driving gloves to his shopping list. After a few minutes, Nicholas ordered Claget to stop, and the two exited the car. "So how'd you get it here?" Claget asked as Nicholas walked around to the container behind the former truck driver. "I had the gear I'd ordered shipped to a friend of mine," replied Nicholas, "and he put in here for me." Springing the lock, he swung the door open and slipped inside, emerging with a large box under one arm. He thrust the package at Claget and refastened the container while his partner tossed the carton in the back seat. "That thing is way too big for just a handgun," Claget said after they had resumed travel. "What else you got in there?" "Ammunition and other supplies I thought we might need sometime," returned Nicholas dismissively. He pulled a laptop out of a bag in the back. "So it's Louisiana next, hunh?" "Yeah. Some kook sent some sort of prophetic-doomsday message to a couple dozen people on the Net. Apparently Watcher's taking it seriously." Claget shrugged. "You said you were bored, so I thought it might be worth looking into." He glanced at Nicholas, who had started busily tapping away. "What're you doing?" Nicholas didn't look up. "Checking out the message." Claget paused, discarding his initial queryâ??how his partner was getting a wifi connection on a state highwayâ??in favor of a pursuing a more pertinent oddity: "I thought you didn't have a Net account." "I don't." "Then howâ??" Claget snuck a glance at the screen and was rewarded with the username. Intheyear2525. "â??you're an asshole." Nicholas bobbed his eyebrows.

I apologize for not replying sooner. I was so busy not replying to anything that I didn't get around to not replying here on time. [/Groucho Marx] Still, if people want to go ahead and have everyone gather without us two, that'd be fine; I can have Nicholas rewind to whatever happens anyway, so really we won't be missing anything. Plus, it's always nice to have surprise reinforcements, no? :p
