Check out Orson Scott Card's Wyrms. Good standalone book, with an intelligent and intellectual female lead. (Gasp!) Also interesting was Dragon's Egg, by Robert Forward, about the evolution of life on a neutron star, with a subplot involving humans, who end up witnessing over thirty thousand years of progression in a matter of hours. Not very action-y, but rather stimulating anyway. :D

Because I swing with the Baptist denomination, we don't follow many of the Catholicism-inspired liturgical holidays. So today is blissfully normal. Tomorrow I play with the church ensemble (which is growing in both size and skill; having three of us old high-school buddies from the same town—and church, no less—in the group did quite a lot to that end), and because it's Easter, out music program will be a little more intense and the sermon will be resurrection-themed like every year. After that, I'll be meeting up with my mother and possibly the oldest of my younger sisters and having lunch, since I didn't get to come home for the weekend. Noting terribly extravagant. (^_^) (Double-sig-ness ftw.)

Yeah, I officially apologize for all the Nightwish spam in this thread. Good group, though. So I went album-hunting and came up with Keiko Matsu: The Ring. Pretty good smooth-jazz keyboardist, and her arrangements are pleasurable to listen to.

Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
Allamorph replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
Is Death Note really that good? My gf loved it, but I haven't bothered to actually check it out, and I'm starting to feel I missed out on something.
I like it. But then, I'm an insanely mental person who was raised on Holmes and Bond, so I love the whole mind-games thing. It's like watching a really good chess match, with living pieces. -
Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
Allamorph replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
Yeah, I've been watching the sub, and though they do pronounce it Raito (with the flip, I might add), it is supposed to be Light (place the Yagami on whatever side you want :p) Gosh, the music for it is so gorgeous. As for the dub, the only voice that annoys me is Misa's....but then, I just don't like the way her voice-actor reads lines. Light and L and everyone else sound absolutely fine to me; and this is coming after hearing both versions, through the
discovery of the third Killer's identity
. Love the head games in that series. -
Smoking Should Only be in 'R' Rated Films?
Allamorph replied to Aberinkula's topic in General Discussion
Seems like we already had a thread on this. My opinion stands. Doesn't really matter either way; kinda useless, actually. -
All right, you amusing little Raiha lackeys, settle down. I'm sure your mistress can handle a little bonk every once in a while without needing her devoted minions to rush to her aid. :D Now, I knew from the moment the thread began that it wasn't intended as a venue for criticism and growth. My gosh, if I'd thought that, I'd have stepped in and done a hard crit and picked her to pieces already; I mean, sure she's got some really good qualities, but she's far from perfect. No, this thread is quite obviously entertainment only, and so thus far in the thread I've said next to nothing of value. And with that in mind, it's also quite obvious that she's the one setting the request boundaries. It's her thread. That's not the issue. My problem is that she already set her boundaries, and stated them quite clearly in a conversation with me. (For the sake of context, I was at the time essentially asking her to ignore Conrad's first request, way back at the beginning of this whole shebang; I find this rather ironic, given the situation.)
Allamorph: Then you are actually going to acknowledge DB? Allamorph: Aww. Allamorph: >_> neuvoxraiha: I said I'd do anything neuvoxraiha: I can't afford to be stuffy Allamorph: There is that.... neuvoxraiha: it simply would be impolite.
At the time, I found that statement rather respectable; she had set her rules, and she was sticking to them. And then we collectively scorned Conrad when he returned with the idea of murdering A_M, and that was fine, because it was a legitimate reason. But this reason?
And besides, considering the pending requests, it's not stuffiness. It's more a desire to NOT SUCK.[/FONT']
That's my thing. She's sidestepping because she's afraid of looking bad. It's the same as saying I'll do anything....but only as long as you ask for stuff I can do. So my reasons here are trifold. (Oh, and highlight the rest of the preceding line.) 1.) Stick by your rules. If you want to write violence, sex, gore, angst, and death, make sure people know to request violence, sex, gore, angst and death. If you say No Limits, don't up and add limits, and don't expect your "clients" to cater to your skills. 2.) Don't be afraid of looking bad. In fact, I respect more a person who tries and fails, because they simply tried, cheesy as it may sound. I have no respect for someone who attempts to cover their weaknesses with scorn. 3.) I have to RP with her. If she's incapable of moving a story, and unwilling to learn, she's useless to me. And I really don't want that to be the case. However, since I MK's request has unfortunately been abandoned, I make it my own, with a few tweaks. Mecha duel; pilots: MoyakuKeramushe and Raiha. No winner. Scene starts towards the end of the battle, with ammunition and fuel for both machines running low, and the pilots down to their last desperate tactics (which, by the keyword desparate, would most likely mean that very little tactics are actually involved at this point. Fun.) MK falls to Raiha after a tenacious battle, but MK inputs the self-destruct commands in his last seconds of consciousness, and the female pilot is left without fuel to escape. Roll with it, milady. Edit: To make it even more fun, narrate the entire short from MK's perspective, first person only. Oh, and who wins the bets again? :p

Ah-hah! Ah-hahahahah! Hoo hoo!! :bellylol: ....ohhhh man. :D Yeah, if it helps, here was the gist of the whole thing. Man, that was a while ago, wasn't it?

Hey! Yeah, well, someone's got to do it. Still, nothing wrong with being well-rounded. Plus, your other art is going to look not-so-hot at first, just 'cause you're not used to doing it. I mean, some of my first literary sketches were atrocious.
-
Exactly. In other words, you only want requests where you can further exercise what you already know how to do. (^_^) You need more practice in your weak areas. It'll make your strong ones stronger. Plus, right now you look like a weasel, and we can't have that, neh? :p
-
Oh, I'm sorry, Raiha. But didn't I hear you say once upon a time that you'd do anything? That you couldn't afford to be stuffy? You were excused with the one involving A_M; it would have been tasteless, and too many people would have crucified you afterwards. But this is nothing so ... problematic. Time to hit the books, I think, milady. You got yourself a request to fill.

Funtime Thread of Humor and Mirth (and Junk.)
Allamorph replied to The Spectacular Professor's topic in General Discussion
Well, while we're all held completely in the thrall of Caramelldansen, let me just trump Aceburner with actual dancing. High-speed Sonic deserves a half a lol. (Jays, but that terrible cut in the song is getting so old. Just play the whole durn thing and edit the visual over the verses too, how 'bout?) -
That's why he said "head". Besides, no one wants to know where that hand has been. And yes, you are. :D

Forgot: I will hit 100+ on Legend of Dragoon, probably, since I'm going to camp for like eternity to get stuff raised up. Man, that game is so old. But I love it.
-
Don't sweat it. There was no funny. I think the only games I might hit the triple digits on are Fire Emblem and perhaps LotR: The Third Age. Otherwise, I tend to beat quickly, fully, and only once. Except for Metroid Fusion. Beat it three times, and spent a total of nineteen hours all told.
Hmmm and here I would have said, overly descriptive and almost repetitive in his themes with the Shannara series, there's a lot of similarities that keep popping up after all. At least it was laced with common every-day language making it easier to follow
Yes, well. I was being nice.

. . . . . . what?!
Indy? As in Indiana Jones?
No. ò_ó As in, my pet name for her. As in, indifference. =P I might check out Lucky Star sometime. Might make my younger siblings wonder why I yell at them for watching Spongebob and Hannah Montana, though.
To me, Nightwish needs those amazing operatic vocals. Like I said, it's just not the same.
No, it's not. Not by a long shot. But I still enjoy both of them equally; I also wonder what Anette sounds like on End Of All Hope. And I do have Oceanborn, but other than that I have been lazy in my purchases. >_>

Anime Cartoon Network Line-Ups...and anime on television announcements
Allamorph replied to Syk3's topic in Otaku Central
I wonder if Cartoon Network / Adult Swim is diliberately trying to kill itself off.
Our day is Saturday, but it's rapidly being encroached upon by Venture Brothers. Speaking of Saturday, small change in the itinerary, but only the 1:30 slot. Once Blood+ Ep. 50 airs, [as] will play four episodes of Cowboy Bebop in its slot: #s 12, 13, 25, and 26. After that, Code Geass will replace it. At least we still have an hour and a half. >_> -
Uh... I'm really more of a fantasy fan though, Terry Brooks, David Eddings, oh and sci-fi too like Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. Not that anime isn't fun, I just love that kind of stuff the best.
Hurrah for Terry Brooks! (Even if he does feel a little "get-on-with-it" sometimes.) So Des is responsible for Lucky Star, and I'm responsible for Nightwish. I like this game.
Only when told. :catgirl:
Well, that's what I'm here for. (^_^) Edit:
And it was called go-go back in the day too.
Seriously? Jeez. Terrible name. I mean, when I think "go-go"....
-
Would I really use the phrase "pleasurable experience" if I were being serious? lol
Yes you would, and you know it. =P Regardless, there's not a whole lot of high-quality mainstream stuff out there right now; so if "Go-go" is getting popular, judging from the general taste of society I'd hazard that it was called something completely different back then, and was probably a lot better. Surely there was more effort at originality. I maintain my earlier description. Especially the undead part.
Kill me now.
Now, why would I do a fool thing like that? =P
Universal health care is NOT socialist.
No, of course not. But it establishes precedent, and also makes private healthcare institutions mostly impractical. I'm just overly paranoid about that sort of thing. And yeah, I'm aware of the multiple flaws in Welfare. But my main problem is that everyone is leeched from to pay for many individuals who sit on their butts and use it as an excuse, instead of assisting only those who actually need it. I also think that people who actually try to push towards the Star Trek perfect society are numbskulls. =P

Before I post again, I'd like to know: who exactly is active besides Andrew and Raiha? Is the Ozy-Numbers thing still going? Is Rev still stuck pulling the load on her end? Myself, I got busted with a big paper this weekend, and it's taken me a few days to recover. Besides, detailing shopping excursions is not exactly my most preferred way to spend a writing session. But I'll be biting that bullet soon enough. :D
