The Sweet ? Ballroom Blitz So shoot me. It's a great song. It's like watching a ridiculously epic party through Lewis Carroll's glasses. Also, Christian Lindberg's performance of the Hindemuth Sonata for trombone. I'll be playing it Monday in our studio recital (well, the third and fourth movements, anyway), so it's helping me to get the timing down. I don't really care for soloing, but I'm definitely starting to take to this piece; it's almost as intricate as Stjepan Sulek's Sonata Vox Gabrieli in terms of the interplay between the trombone and piano, which I feel is really more of a trombone-piano duet. Hang all the show-off pieces?these are the fun ones, the ones that make you sweat while you're playing. Range is all over the place, lots of rapid chord changes and poli-rhythms and what. I've been told that some pianists refuse to accompany to this piece because it's so dang hard. I'm fortunate to have an amazing accompanist here as an adjunct faculty, and he charges fairly cheap for his outstanding abilities. I heard another guy in the studio play the Sulek two years ago, and even though he was butchering the time, the accompanist was dropping multiple measures like they were nothing; I have the piano part ensconced in my head, and I was just going "there go four beats; that's that measure dropped; holy frick, he's still with him...."

Segment: Combat Narrative Combatant: R296C-4157: J. Sterling; katana Combatant: R296B-8613: L. Torvel; katana ROE: Formal engagement: melee only, single weapon Death Match Combat system online Grounds: Arena – Gameplanet Time Luciano unexpectedly dove inside Jason’s guard. Grabbing a fistful of shirt, he spun Jason through the air once, twice, then hurled him at the arena wall. Jason cursed and reoriented, the rapidly approaching wall becoming the new floor. The instant his feet touched, he rolled forward, using his momentum to propel him into a dead run. His synapses still in high gear, he raced around the arena’s perimeter, rolling again and kicking hard against the stone barrier to shoot himself, spinning, back at his foe. Luciano predictably sidestepped; Jason shoved his sword to his right, planting it firmly in the dirt floor. He relaxed his grip, allowing his hands to slide around the hilt, and his body followed, his left boot lashing Luciano across the face. The Latino cyborg was knocked to the floor, and Jason allowed himself to whirl once around the blade before touching down, his back to his enemy. He drew his katana from the earth and turned, his fluid sweep batting away the recovered Luciano’s thrust. Timestop Time lapse: 4.4 sec End segment

Is there not a thread on this already? Good gosh, people; Heath Ledger's obituary hasn't even moved of the front page yet and I can't find a thread on his final movie! Anyway. I just saw the official trailer for Dark Knight, and I am ecstatic. Not only is Christian Bale the best Batman/Bruce Wayne to date in my opinion (and that's not at all biased by the fact that he's one of my all-time favorite actors), Ledger's interpretation of The Joker is great. Magnificent. Jack Nicholson should be proud; especially since the speech quirks that Ledger put into the character seem to be a direct homage to Nicholson. I am fortunate that this is releasing over the summer; there's a drive-in about twenty minutes away from my house, and it costs $5.00 to stay through two movies. Plus our decrepit old Mercury Villager for some reason came with a great stock sound system; I can approximate a cinema in the darn thing. If I see one movie on the silver screen this year, Dark Knight will be the one.

I thought this deserved a specific point-out for the sadness factor. :D -
Ah, okay, I see what you're saying. I never thought to use his down-B as a recovery move since it makes you fly downward in the air. But if you can keep jumping every time afterwards I can see how that would be worth it.
Actually, we just discovered the bug (which it is, I think) last semester while getting ourselves psyched up for Brawl. Someone did it by accident and we all went o_O. And then there were about five matches where everyone and their mother was Ganondorf so we could test for ourselves. I like his side-B now because of it's mid-air application. "You! On the ground! Now!"
The more I listen to Nighwish, the more I like them. Heh. They have such a deep powerful rhythm to their music that I like and the vocals are great, from the more controlled to the metal singing that is not too harsh. Which I really like.
I was fortunate enough to be introduced to them by Ghost Love Score, so I was hooked immediately. When I found out that every member was classically trained, and had belonged to a major operatic group at some point in their careers, I was drawn in ever further, because I knew they must know somewhat of what they were writing, and that they weren't contracting out for arrangements and orchestration and copyists and what. And Marco Hietala does a magnificent job everywhere. I personally find it great that he's a fantastic tenor and plays bass; hearing those differences so well shows real talent. This impressed me more than anything:
Musical Background Active musical family background. I've been exposed to jazz, rock and classical ever since I was born. I´ve been playing guitar and bass since the age of 12. 3 years of classical guitar, vocal and musical theory studies in musical college. 2 more years of bass and musical theory lessons in Oulunkylä Pop and Jazz Conservatory.
My parents did the same for me. My father was actually a Music Ed major in college as well, and I basically took up the trombone because he played it first. (It was either that or clarinet, and at twelve I was pretty certain that having that easy a reference and guide was preferable to segueing into sax—which I still want to play.) My iTunes is on album shuffle mode right now, so I just went from Evanescence to some jazz trombone ensemble. (I need to get their name from my professor.) Really tight group, with solid grooves. Great late night work music. Keeps my mind relaxed. Edit: Wait, just switched again. "Gospel and Religious", iTunes calls it. Feh. It's Pillar, their rapcore album. They've gone hard rock, though, but they still have some decent rap on a few tracks.

The Eagles: Long Road Out Of Eden It is most definitely not Strauss. =P Edit:
I'm going to end up getting the album just for that song alone.
I guarantee you'll like Creek Mary's Blood. And you should also look at The Sirens, because the guitar solo is very tasteful of the style, and the choral partwriting is very interesting. Hurrah for legit nomenclature taking over the thread! :D
Yes, but isn't Healthcare as we know it more expensive? And what happens to when somebody gets cancer? Not everyone can afford cancer treatment, so what do we do? Just leave them hanging? It should also be noted that $120 a month is just France. It may be more or less expensive in other countries.
The bottom line is, the Federal government should not have a say in healthcare distribution because that opens the door to Federal control of healthcare. The idea of Federal regulation of healthcare is extremely Communist. And although it's a very nice and altruistic theory, it does not work in real life. It's far too easy to manipulate at the higher levels, and our government does not have enough saints across the board for me to trust any more communist ideas to it than we already have. (Welfare comes to mind. And it's a broken system anyway.)
What are you talking about? Ganondorf was never able to jump twice after using his down+B. He's still able to jump once, plus use his up-B, after it in Brawl the same as in Melee. In both you can jump once, use down+B, then jump again, or you can use down+B off an edge and jump once.
Melee had a jump-reset thingy built into Ganondorf's down-B; where you could use your mid-air jump, kick, use it again, kick, use it again,....as many times as you wanted. It made up for his relative slowness and the ease he could be struck through by allowing him to recover from bizarre distances to either side, similar to Marth's Dancing-Blade hopping that I got so annoying with. And since he's a heavy, it made his KO danger zone even higher than it was naturally, which could tick people off. A low-trajectory blow could do him in, but if he managed to recover at a decent height above the stage? at least one character-height, let's say?he could make it back from even an (game- calculated) inch of the screen edge. Granted, his back-air was nasty, and I hated fighting against his up-air, but it was that return of the second jump that made him more fun to play with. But we checked, and if he's already jumped twice, he can't jump again after using his down-B anymore. Also, his Warlock Punch is now beautiful. But he's still kind of depressing. Agreed on the single-hit. (Even though the double-smack was fun.)
Yeah, well, bucko I enjoy playing as him....[/COLOR']
Yeah, see, that's the thing. So do I. Or, I did. Second on the Cpt. Falcon bit there. (^_^)
I play Captain Falcon a lot but I really like Ganondorf cause he's enough like Cpt. Falcon that I already know how to use him but also different enough to be constituted as a different character. I also enjoy using Ike. Man is a power-house for sure.
Sorry, bucko. Ganondorf got the short stick this go-round. He's slower, clunkier, his final smash is nigh useless, and they took away the ability to second-jump after the Wizard Kick, or whatever-the-deuce his down-B is called. And he runs like a gay Schwarzenegger.

Yeah, I'll be hitting Strauss from about 3 'til 6 this morning. >_>
And knowing you, somewhere between 6-7 into the song you'd like the brass, if I remember correctly that is.
My mouth dropped open, and I made an odd noise. =P
Allamorph is going to gloat over this....
No, really? I told you you were a liar. And here's the original, in case anyone wants a better sound bite.
I knoooow! I'm still slightly mad that she got kicked out of the band. She's so much better than their new singer. I haven't listened to much of Nightwish's new stuff, but I got as far as the vocals in one of the new songs and had to turn it off. It's just not the same. :[
No, Clurr. Don't even start. Yes, Tarja's vocal talents will be missed, but Anette brings something different to the ensemble mix, so trying to say "This one is better" in either direction is really shallow. In my opinion, Tarja is much more suited to the long solo sections, because her voice is so beautifully operatic. As I told Indi, she does the creepiest succubus you've ever heard in White Night Fantasy. However, Anette's voice is very strong, and quite engaging to listen to, and I feel like the choral sections blend better with her voice. If I had my way, they'd both be in the band right now. (I should probably check out Tarja's solo album when it comes out, or if it already has.)
Okay... am I the only one creeped out by how the guy matches the soprano... in pitch? O_O
His voice is ridiculous. And he still has enough control when he sings "Sing, my Angel of Music!" to put great vibrato on it even though it's like an octave higher than he's supposed to be able to sing. (I hope he's not a Castrati. =P) Edit: Oh, and Rach? Would you mind telling me how on earth you can bear to listen to The Poet and The Pendulum without the vocalists? It'd be like listening to Carmina Burana without the choir.

My friend built himself an Aztec-themed level with an enclosed center section, where basically the only way to get KOed is to rack up almost 600% damage and get the hell smashed out of you. There's nothing funnier than bouncing off all four walls, sliding out the exit path at 200 mph, and slamming the edge of the screen. We were flying so fast that we'd keep sliding even after we'd recovered in the opposite direction.

Hey! Nice to see ya. If you look at the main site page, you should see a section down lower called the Cultural District. All role-plays and other fiction happen in there: sign-ups are in Auditions, players can use the Backstage to communicate about their games, which are posted in Theater itself. I'd suggest looking around at the RPs going up right now, so you get a good feel for how people operate. (^_^)
HAHAHAHA! Youtube, I think one of my friends did video tape it, but I can't work Youtube. I'd have better luck getting into Tila Tequila's tubes than Youtube's.
In your case, I think I'd have to disagree. Sorry, bucko. =P
Something I blame completely on Allamorph.
I take full responsibility for that. Appropriately, I am also listening to Nightwish. My interest in their second album, Oceanborn, just got rekindled, so I'm hitting that for a while. After that, I plan on switching to Porcupine Tree.
