2. See What I'm Sayin' Not willing to test the shinigami's threat, the two standing vampires obeyed instantly, visibly quailing under Nathan's furious glare. A heavy tension settled over the motionless room, the silence broken only by Adrian's violent retching, his blood spewing through his hand onto the white carpet, falling in foul stains. Nathan eyed his injured companion from the corner of his vision, his fierce countenance deepening, his lip curling ever so slightly. The thug under him began to struggle for air, clawing frantically at Nathan's leg. His efforts earned him only more pressure, and his eyes bugged from their sockets, his mouth gasping fruitlessly. The shinigami abruptly stood and dropped his arms; the suffocating vampire gulped a massive lungful of air, wheezing and clutching at his throat as he rolled onto his side. "Get out." Nathan's voice was quiet, strained. The two standing men looked uncertainly at each other and at Nathan, but neither shifted so much as a muscle. Their leader, still fighting desperately for breath, could only manage to bring himself to his knees. Nathan's teeth ground audibly. "I. Said. OUT!!" The word exploded from him, its fury almost shaking the furniture. He strode to the coughing vampire and delivered a brutal kick to his ribcage, hurling the man through the shattered door; a few shards of the remaining glass broke off as he flew into them, others tearing at his clothes and skin. "And take your trash with you." Now the men jumped to flee, practically stumbling over themselves and each other in their haste to escape. Nathan watched them grab their leader and leap from the balcony; he stared after them a few seconds before returning to his tormented ally. Adrian?s retching had had subsided, and he now merely lay weakly at the foot of the bed drawing labored breaths, his eyes closed in obvious pain. Nathan's eyes shifted to the bag on the edge of the bed?the one Adrian had been striving for. They narrowed as it gave an almost imperceptible twitch, then another. He stepped quickly to the bed, catching it delicately up and loosing the drawstring. He pulled back the opening and Astera fluttered drunkenly out, flopping gracelessly onto the comforter. Her glazed eyes met his briefly, and her brow furrowed. "Nathan...?" she asked, confused and half-aware. Her gaze lost focus and her eyelids fell shut, her body going limp, unable to sustain her any longer. The shinigami's gaze drifted back to Adrian. His breathing had stilled and his tense limbs had relaxed; he had succumbed to the strain as well, and slept again. The patter of small feet sounded behind him. Nathan turned to see Isen trotting calmly in through the broken door, carefully sidestepping the sharp splinters of glass on the carpet, his blue hat clutched securely in her teeth. She halted at his feet, and he stooped to retrieve his accessory, not wishing her to jump to the bed. The two stood quietly for a moment. "You're welcome," offered Isen sardonically, flicking her tail. Nathan said nothing. The familiar looked at him a moment, then let him be. After a brief silence, Nathan sighed. "They're bonded," he said. "So?" Isen returned. "It's not uncommon, you know." Nathan shook his head. "No, Isen. They're bonded." Isen considered his statement, concern lining her expression as she grasped his meaning. "...oh," she said simply. Nathan picked up the unconscious fairy and took her to the head of the bed. "I should have seen it sooner," he self-chastised, laying her on her miniature nest. He pulled a silk handkerchief from his breast pocket and, after checking to make certain it was clean, laid it over her slumbering form. "The signs are so obvious." "You were distracted," Isen countered. "No excuse," he dismissed, moving Adrian back onto the bed. "Not for me." He sank wearily into a chair near the back wall. "They could have died. Twice now." "Blaming yourself is stupid, Nathan." Isen jumped lightly to his lap. "I place blame with whom the blame lies," he said. He placed an elbow on the plush arm of the chair, resting his head sideways on his palm, and Isen leaped to his back and curled herself behind his neck, both of them watching the sleeping pair. --------------------------- Adrian awoke some time later feeling extremely disoriented; hadn't he been on the floor not a moment ago? He sat up and his head throbbed, reminding him of his current unhealed condition. Pressing a hand to his forehead, he looked slowly around the room. At first, he wasn't sure of the terrifying event that filled his fuzzy memory, but when he saw the shattered door his breath caught in his throat, and he looked wildly for Astera. She was beside him, safe on the pillow. A slight smile crossed his face as she stirred sleepily. The cloth covering her was new, though, he thought; when did she get a new one? Abruptly he noticed a large splotch of blue near the top of his vision. He glanced up sharply and almost jumped at the sight of Nathan and his familiar coolly observing him. "What happened?" Adrian asked, flustered. Nathan didn't answer; Adrian looked to the broken glass door and back to Nathan. "Who were they?" Still nothing. "What did they want? Why did they attack me?" he rushed, confused by the shinigami's silence. "Nathan! Tell me what's going on!!" The blue reaper fixed Adrian with a cold stare. "You disobeyed a direct order," he said slowly. On the silk, Astera sat groggily up; she snapped into focus when she saw her partner's agitation. "What?" exclaimed Adrian, incredulous. "What are you talking about?" "What's happening?" she queried. "Nathan...?" Nathan ignored her. "You disobeyed a direct order," he repeated. "This is ridiculous; I don't even–" "I told you specifically not to do anything stupid," the veteran cut him off. "I told you specifically. And what do you do?" He snorted. "You go off and beat up on somebody while we're in neutral territory. You throw flames in somebody's face just like an immature, undisciplined child having a temper fit." Adrian stared at him. "You mean those were Victor's men?" "Yes. He saw it as 'necessary measures', so you wouldn't 'make the same mistake' again." "Mistake?!" Adrian shouted. "You saw them ganging up on us! They were asking for it!" "They were under orders not to interfere. Victor said nothing about intimidation. Neutral parties are granted free passage in and out." "You said nothing about 'neutral'!" "And you didn't figure it out when we were received?" "You could have told me!!" "Don't you dare shift attention off yourself!" Nathan snarled. "I know where my faults lay, but you remain blissfully ignorant of yours." "My faults?" demanded Adrian. "So what, I screwed up someplace else, too?" "Yes. You were the one that led us into the mansion, straight into the first trap." Nathan uttered a short bark of a laugh. "You're lucky the moron wasn't intelligent enough to separate our familiars from us." "None of you had to follow me in!" "The hell we didn't!" Nathan shot back. "You know bloody well the other two are nowhere near as good as either of us, and none of you had the slightest clue what you were getting into! Of course we had to stay together!" "I don't work with other people!" Adrian said heatedly. "Besides, I thought–" "No, you didn't," said Nathan harshly. "Not once did you think. You rushed into every new situation with anger flaring and both blades flying, and you're goddamn lucky this was the worst backfire you got! "And you're right, you don't work with other people," he continued mercilessly. "Maybe if you did on occasion, you'd have an idea of what teamwork means! Maybe then you'd have been a bit more than just a battering ram!." Astera took off. "Stop it, Nathan," she cried, defending her partner. "You said yourself that nobody knew what they were getting into! Leave Adrian alone!" "Back off, faerie girl," retorted Isen. "Shut up, alley *****!" She made as if to attack; Isen hissed, back arched, her fur rising. "Isen!" snapped Nathan, eyes blazing. His aura pulsed against the air. Shocked silence fell over the room; the two females settled down, eyeing each other mistrustfully and Adrian fumed to himself, while Nathan stared at the wall on his right. He spoke again a few minutes later. "You're not ready yet." "I know that!" Adrian rejoined. Nathan gave him a sideways look, raising a laconic eyebrow. Adrian sobered instantly. "You're not ready yet," Nathan repeated. "You need more training." "I know," agreed Adrian quietly, after a moment. "I was planning on paying my old mentor a visit, the one who taught me about...." He trailed off. "...the life bond?" Nathan provided. Adrian nodded; Nathan did the same, musing quietly. "Who is he?" he inquired finally. "Gavrie," answered the tired shinigami. "He's been there since I started; he taught me how to survive after I found Astera, how to fight with two scythes." "Mmm," said Nathan, musing again. He stroked Isen's head, letting more silence fall. Just as the stillness was starting to make Adrian edgy, Nathan sighed. "Isen?" he started. "Can you do me a favor?" Her ears perked up. "Go tell Alex I'll want to see him soon. Tell him to wait for me, and to lay low for a while." He smiled. "All right?" The cat nodded assent and leapt lightly down, trotting quickly back out the door. "So then," he said to Adrian. "This 'Gavrie'...." He grinned. "You wouldn't be willing to introduce us, would you?"
 3. Well, there's this nifty little Help tag in the comment box that links to all the coding lingo; it does a good job of explaining the tags there. Should look like this: Help [?] Also, why are you using the kuja?!?!?!? Edit: Darn you, Des, for sniping! :p
 4. And just for posterity, I'm going to include Nathan's weapon as well. So yeah, it's a bitty thing. I'll do more posting when further alterations take place, as I've mentioned to you guys before. (^_^)
 5. New York, hunh? Hmm... Yeah, I got about ten hits inside of the Big Apple, and several more in Scranton, just after a quick search. Presumably there's some around there somewhere where you live. Google Maps should help. (^_^)

 10.
Allamorph puts to much effort into his characters to be ignored so he gets thrown a bone =p.
Hunh? ...oh. (^_^) (still not sure if that's a compliment....) Anyway, my current favorite would have to be my reaper, Nathan. Not only is he the single most developed character I've had to date, he's also based on one of my original creations, who incidentally shares a similar pigmentation problem. (They're both blue.) I have a few others I never got to use too much. Of them, Aleister Faust of The Doomsday Redemption proved to be most entertaining, probably since he was almost completely based on me; we're both allergic to sunlight, for instance. :p I was rather proud of Tristan Lancaster and Lethe from Of Humans And Dragons, even though it too died fairly quickly. They presented development possibilities rather easily, all things considered. I was also extremely proud of my Judgment's Hound from Masked Agenda; I can say nothing else about it, though, since I hope to actually use it one day and any revelations might spoil the character. >_> Elena de Mercado wasn't half bad, either. *shrug* Unfortunately, I haven't had a lot of exposure to other's characters; things tend to die fast, I've noticed. I'd list ones that have struck me, but so far I haven't had enough time to pass fair judgment. I will say that the concept for Eddie Galvez for the original G&C absolutely blew my mind. I was even going to sign up for that one (would've been my first), but that guy popped in first and my muse threw a royal tantrum at being outclassed.
(Granted, he wasn't necessarily a spectacular player, but still. That was one hell of a curse, pardon my François.)

 11. Now It Moves Sighing in irritation, Adrian eased himself out of bed made his way gingerly to the double doors. He cursed the lousy timing; of all the things to have to deal with after almost thoroughly exhausting himself and his familiar in a ridiculous battle for which he and his allies had been poorly prepared, it had to be some annoying human who’d managed to clamber up onto his balcony. He worried for an instant that it might be a burglar, but quickly threw off the thought. If that proved to be the case, he still felt capable of hiding his and Astera’s presence from the intruder. Otherwise he’d simply have to scare off the pesky trespasser. He threw open the curtains and found ... no one. Confused, he stared out through the glass doors for a brief moment. He could have sworn that he’d seen someone’s shadow just outside the glass not a moment before. Not only that, but he could sense an unfamiliar presence as well, though he couldn’t seem to focus in on what it was. They were definitely close—he knew that much—and he was starting to dislike the way things felt. He needed to wake Astera and get her out of possible danger. Turning around, Adrian pulled up short in shock. “Hullo, mate.” --------------------------- The blue shinigami came to a sharp halt in the skies above the city. His eyes scanned the landscape below in quick, harried flits, giving away his inner turmoil. Isen watched from beside him for a moment before speaking up. “What’s the matter, Nathan?” Nathan grimaced. “Victor’s got men all over the city. I can’t sense which way to go.” “What about Adrian’s home?” she asked. “He should have gone there to recuperate, right?” The shinigami hesitated, searching the ground one more time. “I — don’t know where he lives,” he said finally. “I can’t — I can’t remember....” Isen nodded. “This way,” she said, streaking off to the left in a grey blur. Nathan followed hot on her heels. --------------------------- The brown-haired intruder grinned at Adrian from the other side of the bed, exposing his prominent fangs. Adrian started. –A vampire! The man stood directly over the groggy Astera; in his hands he held a small brown burlap sack, big enough to carry a small animal ... or a fairy. The shinigami glowered at him. “Back away from her, right now,” he warned through his teeth. The vampire put on an affected face. “Oh, come on now, mate,” he said. “I won’t be ‘urtin’ ‘er, now.” He grinned again and reached down to pick her up. “Just want ‘er to keep havin’ that nice little nap....” Adrian lunged at the man; a crash behind him made him turn, and he saw another vampire charging through his shattered glass doors, leaping straight at him. He called for his scythe to cut the vampire down. A wave of nausea drove him to the floor, and his vision swam. He felt himself tossed harshly into the wall, and before he could recover, his hands were twisted and pinned behind his back, forcing him to drop the only scythe he’d managed to summon. He was yanked roughly to his knees, and his hair was jerked down harshly, forcing his head up and back, his face twisting in pain. “Don’t worry ‘bout your little girlie friend now, mate,” the man was saying. “She’ll be just fine.” Adrian’s vision began to clear; he saw the man secure the now full bag’s opening and lay gently it on the foot of the bed. “There’s plenty o’ air holes for ‘er, and we put a little somethin’ in to keep ‘er nice an’ quiet-like. “ ’Sides,” he said, casually approaching his captive, “t’ain’t her we’re interested in.” Adrian only felt two pairs of hands restraining him, but he was so sick he couldn’t struggle. As the man crouched down in front of the shinigami, Adrian’s breathing began to race. “See, now, mister L’Envers....” he spoke it ‘len-vair’ “....‘e don’t like to be insulted. So when some upstart no-name comes around stirrin’ things up, ‘e don’t take too kindly to it ... now does he, boys?” The man looked up with these last words; one of Adrian’s captors spoke a smug word of agreement. “You can understand, I ‘ope,” the man continued, rising, “that when mister L’Envers ‘eard you’d gone and attacked some o’ ‘is men, ‘e wasn’t too ‘appy about it.” Adrian was in a panic. –I’m going to die, he thought frantically. –I can’t do anything. I’m going to die. They’re going to kill me, and Astera will die with me. Why didn’t I train for this; why was Nathan the only one prepared? His body began to shake with terror. –Damn it, Nathan, why didn’t you tell me? “So then, after a bit o’ thought, mister L’Envers decided on sending us out ‘ere; kinda like ‘is personal messengers o’ sorts. And that’s what we’re here for. “Right, then,” he said to his associates, drawing on a large set of brass knuckles. “You—close the curtains.” The pressure on Adrian’s hair relaxed, and his head lolled forward, the shinigami giving an involuntary grunt of relief. The man walked in front of him again, and the outside light was abruptly cut off. When he stood by Adrian’s left side, he paused. “And here’s the message we’re supposed to be tellin’ you.” The words never left his mouth. No sooner had he ended the sentence than a small object came whistling through the opposite wall and embedded itself in the man’s wrist, pinning his arm to the wall; the man yelped in surprise and pain. A blue blur shot out of the wall a split second later, plowing through and leveling the unfortunate vampire returning from curtain duty. The third thug released Adrian and rolled to the center of the floor, searching for his new foe. It didn’t matter; the blur shot out from another side and rammed the man, crashing him into the far wall. Dazed, he fell to one knee. The blur regained its definition, becoming an incensed Nathan. Adrian panted, his mind reeling. He made for the bag holding Astera, but the first vampire had jerked Nathan’s scythe free of his arm, and Adrian was shoved out of the way and fell sprawling in front of the bed. “Come on!” Nathan shouted as the vampire charged him. He sidestepped a swipe from his own scythe and darted forward, delivering two sharp blows to the man’s ribcage and face and slashing at the neck with the side of his hand. The vampire staggered backward, clutching his throat; the scythe clattered to the floor. Finally recovered, the curtain man hurled himself at the veteran, wielding a small, black-bladed knife. Nathan stepped to him smoothly, grabbing his knife-wrist, and drove his left palm into the man’s elbow, shattering the bone backwards. The man howled in pain, and Nathan thrust him to the left. Sliding dexterously past his enemy, he jumped, kicked off the wall with his left foot, and spun, slamming his right foot into the man’s head, turning as he landed to scoop up the man’s weapon which he launched across the room, impaling the shoulder of vampire number three. In the same motion, he flicked out his left arm and landed a solid punch to the jaw of the first vampire; he grabbed the wrist as the man stumbled back and spun again, wrenching the man towards him. Off-balance, the vampire leaned forwards, and Nathan leg lashed out and closed over the man’s neck. He jerked down, and the man flipped head over heels onto his back while Nathan turned, pinning the vampire’s neck under his right knee. His arms shot out towards the other two, fingers extended, blue fire dancing on their tips. He froze. “Move and die.”

 17. Boy, quit your shouting. You ain't doin' naught but makin' yourself look like a first-class jerk.
This goes back to the whole "Oh Dear God, why don't people read a thread before posting" problem. Utopian science, NOT guess, utopian science[/B'].
No, it goes back to the "follow the poster's connections" problem, which I've encountered with you before. [previous material stricken for inaccuracy; relevant thoughts to follow] The main issue is that his definition of science seems to differ from your own, as evidenced by your rather violent reaction to the concept of science as guesswork. Instead of bashing him, then, perhaps you would be better served to attempt to probe his reasoning and then, if necessary, set him straight. [resume original content] Moving to everyone in general, I have a thought which AzureWolf set up for me.
My point was that people make a leap of faith when they believe in science.
Not necessarily. See, there's two types of science. Operational science is what is taught in primary and secondary classrooms; it is the hands-on science that can directly test and prove or disprove relationships, identities, and theories. There is no faith involved with operational science, so AzureWolf's claim there is wrong. To illustrate—and simultaneously remove a fallacy used erroneously by many Christians who attempt to define faith—I will take the classic example of a chair. Some of you may be familiar with this example, and please trust me when I say I am not attempting to cast aspersions on faith itself, because faith is an act in which everyone engages every day. The common use of this example is flawed for its general intended purpose. That is my only point. Now, I have seen many a youth pastor take a normal. functional chair and begin a small spiel about how they do not know whether or not the chair will support them when they sit. They say that they must "have faith" that the chair will not collapse under them; this is how they attempt to showcase "faith". This is incorrect. In fact, the example has bothered me as long as I have seen it used, but not until recently did I realize why. I can us operational science to prove that the chair will support me any time I decide to sit in it. I naturally hypothesize that the chair will support me. I then check the chair for any structural flaws and clear any other persons from the immediate area, removing possible confounding variables that might falsely disprove my hypothesis. Once done, I sit. If the chair holds, I was correct, and my hypothesis proved for that experiment. I may decide to retest at any time to ensure the accuracy of my results. However, I cannot use operational science to prove/disprove my theories on origins. For that, I must rely on historical science, which is the study of past tendencies to predict and possibly define future outcomes. The drawback to historical science is that there can be no universally conclusive experimenting done, so there can be no elimination of variables. This is not meant to imply that historical science is inherently flawed, because it is not. There have been numerous methods developed to reduce the inaccuracy and uncertainty of historical science—statistics is quite useful to this end. Still, with the poor supply of data extending far back enough into the Earth's history, any theory on origins cannot be conclusively proven. Therefore, I submit that AzureWolf's statement about science itself requiring faith, while not completely right, is not entirely wrong either. I wonder who'll be the first to ask "how was the chair relevant". :p
 18.
I know it's only a tiny little thing that probably doesn't bother anyone else,
No, actually, go ahead and make that two. I've been curious for a while about that, but I never really felt the need to bring it up.
