Yes, this show had a great ending; it certainly left me shocked at some points. This was one of my first animes I watched a few years back and I just fell in love with the whole fantasy genre. Some may compare it to 12 kingdoms, fushigi yugi, and Harukanaru Toki no Naka de but if anything I feel that it is merely in the same category as those but quite different in story line. More like a Cinderella story to me and touches on family ties more than the others, not mention takes place in modern times. Overall I think it has major watchability and would recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy and magic anime.

Although I just started watching this series (i'm on episode 5) I can already tell this series is something I will greatly enjoy! It hooked me right from the first episode with its sad story and the oddness of the actual Mushi. They remind me very much of the spirits found in Princess Mononoke. The beauty of the animation and overall ephemeral quality of the scenery is what drew me in. I have also checked out the manga that is out right now for it and am looking into the live action movie of this series but decided to hold off until i have finished watching the episodes of anime first. I am greatly looking forward to what creative ways they show the Mushi later on in the series. I think its great that it has the horror aspect, I rarely see anime that actually makes me kind of squeamish but this one has certainly gotten me to react at points.

Anime Your 5 Absolute Favorite Anime
theiceisfrozen replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
this is going to be difficult for me to just pick 5 but here it goes... 1) Fruits Basket~ It was my very first anime, and I think was the best one to start with. Beautiful animation, characters and story. Its a feel good anime that brings to light the changes that we go through growing up and we can all relate to some of the characters on the show. From being sad and lonely, happy, deluded, estranged, angry, hopeful or just plain grumpy all of the characters portray a feeling and emotion that everyone goes through. Not to mention the fact that the whole show is just about fitting in and finding people that can accept you for who you are. I believe this show is more than just a lighthearted cutesy anime, I think that in its fine points it truly tells a story that is about all humans (yes, including those who turn into strange animals) that just want to be accepted and loved. 2) Witch Hunter Robin~ This is one of the animes that I feel the urge to watch year after year in the Fall. I don't know why, it just seems like the show has an air about it of things ending and new beginning. Its one of those animes that just has a quality about it that feels destined for something tragic, but not depressing. its dark, and light at the same time, the perfect blend of outward adventure and self discovery that makes for a rich entertaining watch that encompasses the viewer. 3) Fushigi Yugi~ Yuu Watase's creation had me sucked in quite like Miaka into the storyline. The moment she stepped foot into the universe of the four gods I was hooked. I absolutely love historical china animes like this one. The adventure that ensued captivated my sister and I, whom was watching with me at the time. The imminent Shojo theme throughout it is the main factor that kept me watching. I am just such a sap for animes that have a romance and adventure. The weaving of the four gods into the story was also a point of fascination with me. I loved all the characters and thought they completely complimented each other to make a nice cast of celestial warriors that kept me riveted to the television for all 52 episodes. 4) Boys Over Flowers (Hana Yori Dango) ~ There was just something about this anime that had me hooked. It could have been the hilarious characters, love torn girl, or outright frustration that all combined had me sunk from the moment I watched the first dvd. This show turned out to be utterly frustrating and I found myself yelling at the tv more than once...I guess that is a signal of a good anime, to illicit such emotion and feelings from its audience. 5) Gankutsuo~ I really loved the style and art n this anime. It was beautiful. As a designer I absolutely love innovative techniques and new art forms and I think this anime personifies that! The beautiful use of textures, patterns and color mixed with cell shading and traditional art form all blend into an extravagant and beautiful masterpiece of art. -
I just recently finished watching this anime for the first time....and I have to say although it can get extremely repetitive with the Keitaro bashing it has good heart. After a few episodes the characters started to grow on me even though I had to stick with it for them to seem not as annoying. I loved learning about their back stories, it really gave it some depth. I almost didn't want the series to end....and lucky me, it has a second season, plus two supplementary episodes which I think bring a nice closing to the first season. I greatly enjoyed this anime, at first it presented itself as something I wouldn't normally like with buxom beauties and seemingly unnecessary mishaps, but it turned out rather charming indeed and i would recommend it to anyone who is a hopeless romantic such as myself! :catgirl:

Anime Why Do People Love Anime So Much?
theiceisfrozen replied to NightAlchemist's topic in Otaku Central
I love anime becuase the quality of Amercian cartoons has just been demolished. What ever happened to actual animation style and content? There is a certain characteristic about anime that is a far cry from Ed, Edd and Eddy, and Spongebob Squarepants! Most animes have story lines that are cohesive, not something that is meant to stimulate the viewer for the first 15 minutes and then become froth! Even just the style is completely different. I mean, you tend to hear about those manga and anime sweatshop style animators working and slaving away for one episode or one chapter. However, that is not the case with American cartoons. They pump them out day by day, just meaningless poorly animated cartoons. I think this is why we don't refer to anime as cartoons and in fact some of us shudder to hear someone refer to anime as cartoons. There is a big difference in the quality of a cartoon and the quality of anime. It would be like comparing a fine wine to a soft drink. I love anime because someone actually took the time to think out a plot and character stories and weave a story line that is enchanting and thoughtfully interesting. Most anime has that ephemeral quality to it and in the end I think that is what draws people the most! -
yes I have seen Interstella 5555! (thats what all the videos are called when compiled together) I happen to love daft punk and was reading an anime post on the anime news network and they consider it an anime so i think it counts! :animesmil

I am such a sap when it comes to sad anime...the tissue boxes litter my floor... I would say the one that I cried the most during was Grave of the Fireflys, it was so depressing I couldn't finish it in one sitting. I actually turned it off and came back to it because I just couldn't do it. I found myself crying at the end of Chrono Crusade and X, as well as Fruits Basket (which signifies that i am the biggest wimp ever!). Fushigi Yugi probably activated my tear ducts as well at some point..even though it ended fairly well. Witch Hunter Robin usually leaves with the feeling of crying, becuase I get so melancholy from it... does that count? Oh, and I can't forget the short, Voices of a Distant Star...that one got me all choked up too! ok, i think thats enough to ruin my reputation as an anime watcher... enjoy! :animecry:

Anime Anime that need a sequel/continuation
theiceisfrozen replied to 5th Hokage's topic in Otaku Central
I would love to see a sequel to Fruits Basket!! and to Witch Hunter Robin...the ending left me pondering.... I NEED CLOSURE! It was almost painful! Now that i just finished Loveless....I am sorely disappointed! what kind of ending is that?! It needs continuation!!!! grrrrrr I can honestly say that was one of the larger cliff hangers I have been faced with....but overall a pretty interesting anime! -
What's your geekiest purchase?
theiceisfrozen replied to vegeta rocker's topic in General Discussion
Ok, well I think my most geeky purchase would be a little fruits basket onigiri purse that is pretty much only big enough to fit a cell phone and chapstick...but its sooo cute!!! The only problem is that I have to explain to everyone what it is when I use it in public... -
I was absolutely addicted to this show about a year and a half ago...I had to wait for the last disk to come out because I just couldn't stand the anticipation of who Tsukushi was going to pick! In the end I was satisfied with her decision though and still love to re-watch the anime and read the manga. It also spawned a live action based off it called Meteor Garden. Check it out if you love Hana Yori Dango!!

Anime What do you look for in an anime and what do you dislike in one?
theiceisfrozen replied to Magus's topic in Otaku Central
I totally agree about the animation as stated in this thread before, but what I also love in a good anime is a twist or a mystery at the end! When the characters make an ending that leaves you thinking for a while afterwards.
