What comes to mind when you think of Australia?

hoax? But it was reported in the major newspapers..Oh well still funny though.. -
Okay so I'll admit that blaming all of America for the death of Phar Lap is unfair but he was and still is an Aussie icon, not only because he was the underdog, but also because he was big in everyway. His heart was the size of a football and I've seen his preserved body in Melbourne and it's freakin huge! Even by race horse standards..

Many have suspected it for years but just recently it was proven. Phar Lap was poisened by the Americans, he was fed arsenic..The question is why? Was it because America couldnt stand the though of an Australian horse winning on their home tracks?

When I say New York, what do you think of?
A shameless knock off of the Australlia thread, I know. But bear with me please because I'm a New Yorker, but not from New York City. I'm from the Western part of the state. And well, I'm wondering what people think when they hear the word New York. I swear I won't get offended. Really. I may just try to clear something up, but not yell. Really.
Yay! my idea is being copied! (I feel so proud that i actually started a trend lol..) Oh and what comes to mind when i think of New York is big buildings and rats for some reason..lol -

lol it doesnt have to be nice things..I'll admit myself that australia has a few issues regarding rascism, and not just with the aboriginies either..Probably only australians would remember the tampa incident that happened back in the 90's regarding refugees. John Howard really doesnt like them that much.. That aside I love australia, and I love Vegemite which though it is american owned is still uniquely australian in its own way. Speaking of Vegemite, did anyone hear about it being banned in America because it has folate in it? I read in the paper that in the early stages of it being banned that Australian tourists were being searched at airports to see if they were carrying any Vegimite with them..Off topic I know but how stupid is that?
Hey; Let's try not to bring in St Kilda. They're something else all together.
Now now..dont fight..After all we know the real freak states is south australia and the act lol.. drakkeness, you aren't allowed to post straight after yourself. I've merged the two consecutive posts together for the moment, but if you feel the need to add something and no one else has yet posted, use the EDIT button in the bottom right of your post, rather than hitting REPLY again. --Raiyuu -
Protip: They're koalas, not koala bears. Also, thos vast deserts are avoided by pretty much 99% of Australians. It's so ideallic and wonderful in photos, but damn it's hot and horrible. Common tourist mistakes, don't sweat it. Australia is pretty awesome. Well, Queensland at least. Since I'm there. Queensland is awesome by virtue of it being my home, and NSW is crap because it isn't. Victoria too (burn Jeh, burn).
Queensland's okay in the winter but its way to humid in the summer I'm from country Victoria nice and warm all year round..Which is also semi-desert and not all australians avoid them some find them very interesting.. :D -
G'day all I'm from Australia and was just wondering what you all might think of our little landmass at the bottom of the world..It can be anything at all, like what comes to mind when you think of Australia, what the people or country are like, or even just rumors or things you have heard about it..I promise I won't be offended.. :catgirl:
