Sorry, but cake > pie. I know the truth hurts, but it has to be said.
You just had to bring cake into this didn't you? Because when it gets down to it, cake and ice cream is heavenly. Pie is sort of meh. Unless you are talking about chocolate pie or pecan pie. Those two are almost as good as cake.

When Darren heard and felt the building shudder from what had to be an attack, he immediately stood up only to be caught by a transport door. What the hell? He had little time to wonder as to what had happened when he found himself on what had to be the bridge of a ship. But it was unlike anything he had ever seen. From what little he could see it was the most advanced setup he had ever seen. Even more so than the Creator, which was rather impressive. He was relieved when the woman explained that she was the Elite Specialist Kiva Salqarian. She also mentioned that the other person with her was Daego Kelse. Darren was so surprised that it took him a moment to realize that she had asked him if he knew where Sandra was. But he did not and told her so. Then his curiosity got the better of him and he asked her if this was her ship. Darren resisted the urge to look around more when she confirmed that it was. He couldn?t help it. All citizens knew that Elite Specialists had the most advanced ships in the entire Empire and like anyone else he was curious to take a look. He stayed put though and answered her questions until finally they opened a transport door to the Creator. He thanked them and stepped through. Finding himself in the main transport room. ?Welcome back sir.? The technician said. ?Your presence is requested in the observation room just off the main bridge. Stevens will be over in about twenty minutes so you have enough time to get cleaned up and properly dressed.? Darren looked at what he was wearing, a simple set of plain brown pants and a shirt. The resistance had taken his uniform when he had been treated. Not that he had cared since it had been torn and damaged when the building he had been in collapsed. Even if they had cleaned it, he doubted it had been wearable. ?Thank you,? Darren told him. ?I?ll do just that.? He left and immediately headed to his quarters. It took very little time to take a quick shower and get dressed. And even though he hated the uniform, it was at least better than being stuck in that tiny room. He left and headed for the bridge. Still thinking about what had just happened. It seemed rather unreal. He had honestly expected to be stuck there much longer. But what surprised him the most was what Kiva had said. That she had been assigned to recover both him and Sandra. Darren could understand Sandra but him? Why would they assign an Elite Specialist to recover him? The shipping protocols were already in place. If something happened to him it would change nothing. I need to stop thinking so poorly of the High Council, he thought to himself. Even he knew that Elite Specialists only answered to them. Still part of him found it surprising. ?Ah, welcome back Darren,? Jared said from his position on the main bridge as he entered. ?Stevens is already waiting for you.? ?I see. Thank you.? Darren said as he turned to head for the observation room. Sure enough Stevens was already waiting, sitting behind the huge desk situated in the room. He took a seat when Stevens motioned for him to do so. ?I?ll get straight to the point Darren, I want you to start from the beginning and tell me everything that happened.? Darren nodded and did so. It took him very little time to go over everything, from the moment the building collapsed, to when the first squad found him and Sandra and how the second one stopped them from killing them. Explaining his brief encounter with Sara and Daniel as well as the brief time he had spent in the sickbay at the resistance base until they separated him from Sandra and placed him in the tiny room that Kiva had rescued him from. ?I?m afraid there isn?t much else to tell, sir. Other than they never gave me back my hand held computer.? Darren finished. ?Though other than the report for the High Council there was nothing else on it, other than some personal communications between me and my sister.? ?Nothing else?? Stevens asked. ?Nothing else that you wouldn't find on any system sir.? ?Very well, I want you to go and get checked by the doctor and then for the next twenty four hours you are off duty. I want you to get some rest before you get back to work. ? Darren stood back up. ?Yes sir.? He said bowing slightly to Stevens before turning to leave. He immediately headed for the sickbay; once he was done he would contact Kerstin to let her know he was all right.
Hope you had your share of High Fantasy, because it's time for our first big theme swap. I gotta say though, I'd like to see some more activity, especially from a certain unnamed blue team. Theme Two: Mutant High School Drama Cheshire High is no ordinary private school. It does have it's own cliques, it's quirky teachers, it's intimidating bullies and it's smelly dormitories. The catch is that all of the people going there - students and faculty alike - possess strange powers that common humans don't. To the outsiders, they are mutants. To themselves, they are heroes.
Aw man! And here I was only waiting on the other teams to post a little more. To avoid dominating like Sandy mentioned in the beginning of the challenge. I even had several ideas in mind. :animesigh Still since the twist of theme change is upon us I suppose it is time to switch over. I was thinking of keeping the same name and simply changing some of my other traits to match the new theme. So instead of skills I would have powers this time around. And we could still consider ourselves the mercenaries. In the sense that the four of us ended up as friends and stick together. I'll wait to see what you guys think as well. Also, I'm sure I'm not the only one who is reminded of X-Men with this new theme.

OOC: Time for a secret card to be played. Someone has been issued a Creation Card. This special card allows one of the players to add another character to the game and thus increase their chance of winning. ;) -------------------------------------------- Name: Neheb Gender: male Age: 9 Race & Origin: human, the Earth in 1409 BC Occupation: child pharaoh -------------------------------------------- They had barely entered the next section when the group noticed that there was yet another sleeper. One that was in the center of the room. Curious they moved over to take a look. Inside was a young boy. "Subject fifteen will be prepared." The same female voice that had spoken before said. At that moment the sleeper opened and the boy opened his eyes. He sat up, slowly taking a look around him. Puzzled as to what he was seeing. "This is not my palace, what have you done with it?" He demanded. "Excuse me?" Rebecca asked. "What are you talking about? And just who are you?" "What do you mean? How could you not know who I am? I am Neheb!" He said importantly as if it should be obvious as to who he was. "Oh my, this is simply amazing!" Davis said as he moved forward stopping just short of Nehab who was still sitting in the sleeper. "If I understand what you are wearing correctly, it would fit ancient Earth history. Even if I only studied it lightly. Still there is no mistaking Egyptian garments meant for a Pharaoh." "Of course!" Nehab said with dignity, "I am the Pharaoh Nehab! You did not answer my question. If you have done nothing to my palace then why did you bring me here?" "We do not know, we too were brought here. We do not even know where here is." Davis said simply. "You are not from Egypt!" Nehab said accusingly. "No, none of us are." Davis replied. Nehab climbed out of the sleeper and hopped down onto the floor. "If this is not my kingdom, then we must find out whose kingdom it is and why they brought us here."
Not according to many people on this board. Im also an astronaut. I have never trained in the air force or NASA. I have never left the Earth's atmosphere. And I can't name any of the planets in our solar system besides our own. But still, because I say I am an astronaut I must be one. And the whole notion of the OP is setting up an argument of semantics and split hairs.
Well since SunfallE, Fasteriskhead and Aaryanna_Mom seem to have gotten what I was getting at I'll not repeat it. However, I think it's safe to say that none of us think we are say Naruto or the characters we consider ourselves fans of. Semantics or not, I think it's pretty safe to say no one in this thread thinks that by saying we are Naruto we must therefore be so. Being a fan really has nothing to do with claiming we are something that clearly we are not. At least not in such a more tangible and real meaning or manner as saying one is an astronaut. lol I just don't see the comparison here. Now if you were to say you were a fan of astronauts I'd believe you. ;)
As someone who finds taking classes fun, I object. ;)
I enjoy classes as well. Believe me. ;)
I certainly don't have any problem with watching something for sheer pleasure (I'm a Negima fan, so that's pretty much a non-starter), but for me mere diversion gets old after awhile. Think of my cooking comparison from the previous post: some people are perfectly happy with three-step recipes that take ten minutes to prepare, but the wackos are going to want to fix hugely complex feasts that take days. Both presumably satisfy the goals they have set for themselves. Criticism seems beside the point.
Exactly what I was trying to say only expressed more clearly. People shouldn't feel like they can't just enjoy a few shows for the fun of it. Those ten minute recipes if you will. I like to save my complex feasts for those things I truly enjoy. And who knows? Maybe someday anime will fall into that category as well.
Both of ye long-named dudes, I am in agreement with both of you. Rach (do you mind if I call you that?), I can see what you mean by that, and I can see how it would be imposing. I think what this comes down to, though, is the difference betwen you and me. Your perfectly fine being a lone fan of something -- I'm not. As a person whos hobbies make up most of my life, it is important to me what others think, and I am filed with joy when they think what I think. Fasterisk, I just overall agree with your post.
Not at all, Rach is just fine, or my real name Darren, though since someone has that user name here it might be confusing. lol I do want to clarify one thing though. I actually am not a lone fan. I do have friends who share the same level of interest in classical music that I do, just as I have the friends like Crystia/indifference who do not and yet it has never mattered. If anything having friends with totally different hobbies is a good thing. After all, if she had never [strike]tied me to a chair and forced me to watch...[/strike] *cough* I mean never got me to watch Fruits Basket last year I would still be wandering though life without watching any anime at all and would have never ended up here. ;)
there is no excuse for not having the curiosity to SEEK OUT other shows like my friends and I did in a time when anime wasn't as easily accesible.
Very well then, I say that there is no excuse for not having the curiosity to SEEK OUT other [insert hobby here] either. So I suggest you and everyone else get moving! Or you can stop and think about how silly that sounds to think there is no excuse for not wanting more. lol
Well, that time is almost upon us and to that effect, those of you who need your newest objectives have had them sent to you. Since everyone, other than one or two things has pretty much finished what I had given them. I could be wrong, but I'm thinking it will definitely surprise some of you. At least part of it that is. And I will definitely say this in regards to your comment about the resistance being screwed Rachmaninoff:
You are correct. ^_~[/spoiler'] Hehe, should be fun! :catgirl:
*looks at his new objectives* Oh my, just looking at what I'm going to be doing makes me want to poke you for all that was left out. You just admitted that I was right and that the resistance was screwed! I mean that was awful! Giving me an objective that leaves me hanging in so many ways! Since it didn't confirm any of my suspicions. And yes I'm assuming that some posts by others will shed light as to what's really going to happen. However in light of what you sent me and I won't say exactly what since I figure it will spoil what you have in mind, at least I think it will since I'm not entirely sure what you have up your sleeve, or rather I doubt I have it all figured out that is. Anyway, as I was saying, I will be taking one of those characters that Darren has associated with but wasn't really a full character, and changing that. Once things are ready I will post their profile and add them officially as the second character that I will be controlling. I'll just leave it up to your imagination as to which character it will be. :p Even though I'm sure you will know which one I will be adding. lol

Each round will last approximately a week. However, for the first round each character must be introduced in a post first before they can be killed, they cannot be killed in the same post they are introduced in. This can be done by anyone by simply writing from the prospective of the character you are introducing. Fredrick Shavask did not remember being put into suspended animation for a trip. His current mission with his squad had not required space travel that would require it. So the question, as he slowly stepped out from the long slender chamber he had woken up in, was what had happened? It didn't feel as if he had been suspended, it felt more like he had simply woken up from a good nights sleep. And his surroundings made no sense either. He moved forward a bit and took a good look around. The sleeper he had been in was in the middle of fourteen all lined up along the wall. And other than the empty one he had just come from the others were all occupied as well. What the hell? Where am I? Fredrick turned back around carefully looking at his surroundings. The room of cold metal walls and flooring was empty. On the opposite side of where the sleepers were there were two doors, one on each side. A soft chime sounded, startling him. Speaking in a language he had never heard before. Then a moment later it switched to standard. "Translators initiated," the soft female voice said, "subject eleven successfully prepared. Beginning preparation of the remaining subjects." Subject? The sound of the remaining sleepers opening caused him to quickly turn back, just in time to see the sleepers finish opening. And sure enough, just above the sleeper he had been in was the number eleven clearly spelled out in multiple languages. "What the hell is going on?" He wondered out loud not expecting an answer. "All questions will be answered upon leaving the Maze," the female voice responded. Fredrick looked around for a computer terminal, but other than a screen between the two doors on the wall that came to life and displayed the words The Maze in many languages, he could find nothing. And further requests for information were ignored. Now what? He thought as he turned back at the sound of the others starting to leave the sleepers.

I'll be putting up the starting post for this in the next twenty four hours so I thought I'd go ahead and get this started. Any and all questions should be discussed here. And once the thread is up I will send everyone any links or cards that they will need. Also, I hope you do not mind but I trimmed down a couple of the entries to better match the others. Since two very detailed entries would have really stood out among the other more simple and basic ones. ;) Anyway, I'll be including the starting rules in the first post, so once it's up lets have some fun.
I'm pretty sure all of you should be my slaves, since I'm kind of the dude working on v8. That means you too, James. So without further ado, this is my list of demands: * Three cartons (not decks, cartons) of Winfield Gold Cigarettes. * Twenty cartons of Overproof Bundaberg Rum and Cola * Your souls I expect them by midnight, or there will be hell to pay (and by 'hell', I mean a long list of sexual favours, which could be hell depending on your perspective)
Good grief! Looks like I missed the fine print when I signed up to be a member! The first two I can handle but the third? o_O I am so screwed. I mean you're in Australia right? So I already missed the deadline. *reads Dead's definition of hell* Yup I'm screwed.
I also think it's time we finally make the Secret Staff Yaoi Forum public.
Oh my, now that would be quite the addition to the forum! I don't suppose we could have a Yuri forum too? Pretty please?
And get ready for some real fun once we get through this phase. :catgirl:
You know, the longer I look at that statement, the more nervous I get wondering just what you have up your sleeve. The story is reaching a point where it just feels like things are going to take an unexpected twist, or rather a sense of impending doom that once my character along with indifference's is rescued, the resistance is screwed. I've got all sorts of ideas as to just what will happen next. And I'm extremely curious to find out if I'm right or not! lol
It's like seeing a smart person fail a class -- you know they can do better, but they fail anyway cuz they don't care. It's disappointing, but it's not your problem. In any case, I think we've driven offtopic.
Good grief, watching anime shouldn't be like taking a class. It's suppose to be fun! Not a quest to learn more about the culture or to get into deeper shows. Or to hunt down more of them. If anything that just turns people off, making them feel like they can't be a casual fan without turning it into something more. It sounds more like your disappointed in not finding friends who share the same level of enjoyment in it that you do instead of a real statement that one has to do more to be considered a true fan. And still that's no reason to get upset or disappointed in them since I'm sure they have something they like that you do not and it never crosses their mind to be 'disappointed' with you for it. That would be as silly as me saying I was disappointed in you that you did not share the same love for classical music that I do. Which by the way I do not feel disappointed that others are not as into classical music as I am. Because in the end that's what I love and I hardly expect others to do more or that they can do better when it comes to appreciating classical music. I think the same applies to any form of entertainment that someone likes. They don't have to get deep into it to be a fan and I certainly do not think they have failed or disappointed others by being a casual fan.
I'm with Rach on this! I'm totally diggin' the story so far, and I think all of our writing styles compliment eachother rather nicely =3 It's fun. I'm gonna hold off on posting though till atleast tonight. Sandy said he didn't want to see one team or one player dominating the game because it would be frowned upon, and I think I've definitely seen the most posts out of us four. It's not that I don't want to post right now (I'm brimming with ideas!), but hey. Gotta give the other teams a chance to compete ;D
I agree, it is fun. :catgirl: I don't think we are dominating the game though, since two of the teams only have two players and several of their members have posted twice as well. I think what makes it seem like we are dominating the challenge is that the Titans have two members who haven't posted yet.
The only reason I can think of Des not doing some sort of an insta-ban would be to make a person into some kind of a man-slave You're pretty screwed now.
Wow, I had no idea Des turned people into slaves. o_O If so as Ikillion says...you are so screwed 2007DigitalBoy. I don't suppose anyone knows how many people Des has already turned into slaves?

You three are amazing. ;) I just love how you've been posting in this challenge, especially your part Aaryanna_Mom where you had my character raising his eyebrow at Bethany's statement calling the Gargoyles chickens. It was just too funny since I actually was doing just that as I read it. lol
There is a huge difference between having friends and having a professor refer you to the school's counseling service. Who knows what could have happened if Cho had even one student friend?
That's true, but wasn't that statement addressing the one before it saying no one gave a damn about his mental health? Even if it was a professor and not a friend, it still proves that someone did at least try to get him the help he needed. That someone did actually care. Also, who says he didn't have any friends? I'd very much like to see what article says that. For all we know he may have had a few friends or people who tried to be his friend.

2007DigitalBoy, it sounds to me that your idea of a 'disappointing' anime fan is someone who doesn't have the same taste in shows that you do. That mock conversation you provided just made you sound like a stuck up elitist since the other person wasn't watching stuff that isn't on TV or so called great shows like Neon Genesis Evangelion. [which by the way I did not like] And frankly that's just silly.
Anime elitists make me giggle.
You and me both. I've only been into watching anime within the last year and honestly, it cracks me up to hear the 'you aren't a fan if you haven't watched this show' spiel. And here I thought being an anime fan meant you enjoyed some of the Japanese animation shows, not that you had to watch certain ones. lol
I never said they weren't anime fans, they're just disappointing anime fans.
Why disappointing? That doesn't really make sense you know. What's disappointing about a fan who only likes a few shows? Nothing in my opinion. Perhaps you could clarify why you think they are disappointing, yes?

Even if he was bored out of his mind and a bit anxious as to just how long he would be kept locked up in the tiny room. Darren was glad to know that it was unlikely he would be mistreated by the resistance. Well other than the first squad who had intended to kill both him and Sandra. Since he had been brought to the new location, those who checked up on him had been nothing like the three who had first found him in the rubble of the US building. Even the humans, who he would have thought hated him, were polite. And as far as he could tell there was no outright hatred directed towards him. It was a bit puzzling actually, since the first group had been so hostile. Especially since the doctor had removed the treatment from his eyes since it had been damaged by the fine dust that had gotten into them when the building collapsed. So there was no mistaking him for a human with his silver eyes. In the end he honestly didn't know what to think. There were so many rumors about the resistance that he didn't know what, if any of it, was true. Darren didn't know which made him more nervous, the humans who due to what happened to their world had a good reason to hate his people, or the other Versilans who had joined the resistance and were fighting against his people and all that they had been raised to believe in. They were, in his opinion, just as confusing as the military and the High Council. Though he had no doubts as to what the military would have done to him if the position had been reversed. They had no reservations about using torture or drugs to get the information they wanted. Though he couldn't say the resistance didn't either. After all they had separated him from Sandra and unlike him she knew quite a lot of sensitive information. Daniel had said that no harm would come to either one of them, but he had no way of knowing if he told the truth or not. I certainly hope they haven't done anything to her. He thought. Just because so far nothing had been done to him didn't mean they wouldn't. Darren sat down on the tiny bed and leaned back against the wall. He had no illusions, if they did, he already knew from that one session with Jared that he lacked the ability to resist the drugs that were used for interrogations. It had been extremely embarrassing and uncomfortable since some of them had side effects that he had heard about but never experienced. Even now, the thought of Jared exploiting a reaction like that was still enough to make him feel sick inside. Gods, he thought. I need something to take my mind off of this. If only they'd let me have something to do, anything! Even poorly written romance stories would do! Darren took a deep breath and then let it out with a sigh. Every time they checked on him they asked if there was anything, within reason, that they could do for him. But he had remained silent, saying nothing. I should ask for something to read when they come this time. Though he doubted they would let him have a simple electronic reader. Even he knew how to alter one to do other things with it. He sighed again, knowing that in the end, when they asked if he needed anything he would not respond.

Oh I don't know, since when was watching more than one show a requirement for being a fan of something? I've probably only seen about twenty different anime shows since I only started watching anime last year, but I do consider myself a fan, even if it's just a casual one as you say. I considered myself one from the time I got done watching Fruits Basket, the first show I ever watched. It was that enjoyable. Now if you were to say hard core fan then yeah, I would think having seen more than just a few would be required. Since usually hard core means the person has seen quite a bit. Otherwise, in my opinion, it only takes one show to be a fan of the different art style that is known as Japanese animation. Even if it is Naruto or InuYasha.
Have you ever had a crush on an anime character and why?
Well seeing that my first thought was they're not real I would say no.
Yeah, I mean, I love tons of fictional characters. It doesn't mean I have a crush on them. And when I say 'like', I don't even mean it in the slightest romantic way.
I agree, there are lots of characters from books and shows that I like and outright love reading about them, but it's not romantic in any way. It's more that I love how the author made them seem so real in that you could imagine meeting them. So I really admire the skill of the person who created the fictional characters as well as the fictional world they live in. I've heard lots of people refer to anime characters as being hot, cute, adorable and such, but that doesn't necessarily mean they have a crush on them, though I'm sure some of them do. But I'm of the opinion, at least in my case, usually it's something about the personality traits that I admire instead of the actual fictional character. Otherwise I'd be in trouble since I really like the character Shigure from Fruits Basket and I'm a straight guy. I just get a kick out of his perverted side and the way he torments his editor. Just as I like the naive Tohru Honda. But I most definitely do not have a crush on either one. lol
But I wasn't talking about you, Rach, or your friends. I'm very aware that there are a lot of anti-gun people in the US. I'm just worried about the people who, despite what happens, stick with their right to own a gun (NRA and such). I've seen "Bowling for Columbine", and as subjective as it is, it does tell the story from both sides.
I know, It's just all to often people get off on a tangent about how American's are gun loving violence freaks when it's not true. I know that's not what you meant though. ;) As for the NRA...
The truth remains, as Crystia said, that shootings are many times more common on "that side of the Atlantic", and many people there aren't willing to do anything about it. The solution that "everybody would carry a gun" is ramblings of a madman, and would only lead to more fear, vigilantism and paranoia - not to mention the chaos that ensues when someone starts shooting and everybody shoots back "for their defense".
No, many of us are not unwilling to do anything, it's more of a we're not in a position to actually be able to do something. There's a big difference you know. It's not like we can simply insist that legislation that would require more gun control be passed.
To really spur on a movement there, generally, needs to be a face for the issue(s) involved. An example of this is generally a person, an event or a series of events. Martin Luther King Jr. Pearl Harbor. Susan B. Anthony. Matthew Shepard. 9/11. Katrina. The Second War in Iraq. You can add VT behind Columbine and other acts of extreme gun violence for gun control advocates. Hopefully we can say that, with time and, unfortunately, more bloodshed, legislation will be passed favorable to gun control. Until then the system of traumatic event>reaction>traumatic event>reaction will carry on.
DeathKnight is correct, it's unfortunate, but it often requires more tragedy before something is done. For example, like a number of severe head on accidents on the freeway here in Salt Lake City Utah. It took nearly fifty lethal crashes before the state would finally do something about the need for a cement divider between north and south bound traffic to prevent head on collisions at freeway speeds. Also another thing to consider Sandy, many of us don't wait for the government to make things better. We do so by refusing to buy guns for defense. I and quite a few of my friends refuse to add to the problem by arming ourselves. You'd be surprised at how many Americans do not own or have any gun in their home. Not all of us think that the solution to the violence is to have a gun or some type of weapon.
He didn't have any record of bringing a weapon on campus, like i said, he had a clean police record. He was supposed to be receiving out patient treatment but no one is sure he was. He had th three types of ID needed and he paid for it legitimately.
That just makes it even harder, since where do you draw the line when it comes to attempting to prevent things like this? If a person has a clean record, how would those who sell the guns have any way of knowing? Where do you draw the line when it comes to checking someone out before they are allowed to purchase one? Though I often wonder why we even need the 'right to bear arms' but that's another discussion altogether. But the saddest part is that he was at one point taken to a mental health facility back in 2005 and the authorities say they received no more complaints about Cho before the shootings. So how could they have known that he was far from well and was close to snapping like he did?
