1. Has a game made me cry? Not really. And being a guy has nothing to do with it. =P It's just hard to get emotional over a character that doesn't exist. I have had ones where I'm thinking... jeez, why did you have to kill them off? But that's about it. Oh and Gavin does make a point, a really good score for scenes will make you choke a little, or can. But only because it's surprising (at least to me) when they do have something really good, music wise, for those moments.
  2.
Oh, what a mess. Most likely, it'll just be me telling myself 'keep expectations low' but still being a little disappointed when no one asks me out. Will make sure not to schedule any depressing shows.
You're a guy DB, even though it goes both ways... usually... it's the guy who asks someone out not the other way around (at least where I live). =P And yes I know this doesn't cover all scenarios...
That is toooooo cute. Good on you, my friend. She is a sunflower indeed.
^^ Like I said, I couldn't resist. And yeah, you would know what that refers to since you're a sunflower as well.
  3.
There's simply no way I'm that lazy and devious at the same time. :animeswea *coughs*
Oh I know the answer and being devious has nothing to do with it. That is just a cover to hide the fact that you are lazy. :D Based on Retri's clues I found the thread and read it. Apparently that little incident was before my time. But it seems that DeathKnight is the one who started the Super Otaku Force after John posted about turning the guy in for real. =P Ah here we are, the image from that little deal. That's freakin hilarious.
  4.
Haha, I expected a fight to break out the moment that the reception started... Either I was just way off or someone's afraid to start something... This is kinda a volatile combination. Almost like a mob war would break out between the two opposing families. Fonty would pull out a Tommy gun, Macey would start stabbing people, and the the Achards would start cracking skulls...
Well I don't know about the mob style for fighting... but it is almost anti climatic that no scuffles have occurred other than people glaring at one another over their glasses of champagne. What's the matter with you guys? =P *is kidding* I'm kind of out of the picture for anything like that since Achard or not, my character is a cleric for the church and hasn't lived at home for fourteen years... so he's completely out of the social gossip loop. lol
  5.
I'm, like, totally a new member and stuff. So, yeah. I want my free punch and pie. Or is this the wrong address?
How about we see if Indi's willing to give you a free punch? Probably not the kind you'd be hoping for though. =P Ironically, I figured that once the new year came around... you'd be unable to not return. If only for the name up grade and all. lol
  6. He knew the wedding was going to be too much, but until Juste saw the wedding dress he hadn?t realized just how excessive it would really be. He had spent the past fourteen years at the Citadel, but he still kept up with what his parents were up to. That kind of material and dress would have cost a fortune. I?ll be glad when we?re done and we can head back to the Citadel. Juste had thought it would be nice to see his cousins, but other than a few of them, he just didn?t know them at all. Most of them he hadn?t seen since he was a small child. He was grateful for the chance to be there, but he was ready to simply head back home. Juste had been only too glad to finally escape the stuffy reception area and wander off out onto one of the decks. The cool breeze was refreshing and if you ignored the black smoke from the Villette Mines that could still be seen in the distance, the view was beautiful. The sound of footsteps came from behind him, indicating that someone was approaching. The soft chime from her headband told him without turning to look that it was the Priestess Waltier. She stopped when she was standing next to him and placed her arms on the railing before turning to smile kindly. ?Lovely weather for a wedding. Don?t you think?? ?Of course.? It was a beautiful evening after all. ?You?re not really thinking about the weather or how nice the breeze is are you?? Juste looked away. ?No, I?m not.? He left it at that, not wishing to elaborate. The two of them just stood there for a while, enjoying the view. ?It really is lovely weather.? She said again, almost to herself. She turned to face him. ?If it helps, I find being in a fancy place like this uncomfortable as well.? ?Uh?? Oh great. Now I?ve done it. Juste thought he had been careful about hiding how the whole thing made him uncomfortable. If mom hears about that? I?ll never hear the end of it. He should have known he couldn?t hide that from Priestess Waltier. ?Relax.? He could hear a hint of amusement in her voice. ?I think it?s expected for us to feel out of place so you don?t need to pretend that you?re fine. You?ve been at the Citadel for over a decade correct?? He nodded. ?Yeah. I go home for the holidays, but my parents live a lot more modestly than the rest of the Achard?s do." Juste explained. "It still feels odd to visit them though.? The sound of talk and laughter filled the air and they both turned to look at the guests who were approaching. ?I guess we should head back in?? Waltier folded her arms across her chest and glanced back. ?You must be hungry. I didn?t see anything other than sugary and greasy confections, perhaps we should see if we they have some fruit and cheese in the kitchen?? Juste tried to not look too eager, but her laugher at his expression told him she had seen right through it.
  7. Hi and welcome to OtakuBoards itsoverninek and frfry. Can't say that I know you yet itsoverninek but I'm sure that will change once you've been around for a bit. =P And frfry, if you like fanfiction, then be sure to check out the Anthology since it's the place for posting and sharing your works. Anyway, welcome both of you, we hope you enjoy your stay here. :catgirl:
  8.
What about perfume? I know she likes that because she has some... but then the problem there is, what kind[/i'] she likes, haha.
Well the best route with that, or rather how I've always approached it, is to pick something I think would smell nice. o_O Though sometimes smelling nice and having a name that fits works too. And yes I say this cause I couldn't resist giving Beth one that's called Sunflowers... >_> Anyway, even if it turns out to be one she doesn't care for, it's the thought that counts and I can't imagine her not appreciating that you thought of her.
  9. Just about every game I think of has stuff in it that I'd rather not run into. So with that in mind, I'd probably go for something more simple like Animal Crossing. I don't want to fight god knows what or attempt to survive some insane race. lol
  10. Rachmaninoff

    Coraline

I'm of two opinions about this. One it looks like it could be interesting, quirky and fun to watch. The other, I wasn't all that keen on the other works done in this style so I wonder if it's worth going or not. I mean The Nightmare Before Christmas was sort of a meh experience for me.
  11. Boredom... Something that happens so rarely since it seems like I'm always busy. Anyway, for those times when I do have spare time, I often listen to music, relax or read a book or play a game. Seriously though, it's pretty rare for me to be bored.
  12. Right when it looked like they had him, Fei Wong just yanks the rug right out from underneath their feet. o_O I'm wondering, like Ace, if this indicates that Fei Wong had just about every little detail planned or every possibility mapped out. I now wonder just what he has in mind for Fai and Kurogane.
  13.
Basically the question at hand for everybody is: Is a comment made with no malicious intent still the same as making a hateful remark?
Yes, it is a hateful remark. However, it's one made out of ignorance instead of a deliberate attempt to insult the other person. What makes it hateful is that the person who was hurt by it, can't possibly know that the other person doesn't know they are being offensive. That doesn't mean it can't be cleared up and if the person who made the comment is sorry because they didn't understand, there's no reason, in my opinion, to not forgive. However, if they continued to make remarks like that after being informed, then I'd be less inclined to forgive the first incident.
  14.
Rachmaninoff, I feel you're being quite offensive.. almost saying that my way of thinking is childish..?
I think the word you're looking for is idealistic. You're views, in my opinion, are idealistic instead of factual.
If you think Ishmael is a work of fiction (indeed it is) and that people shouldn't really listen to it then what can you tell me about the Bible? Is the Bible not fiction? Only because Catholics read and believe it doesn't make it real, it doesn't make it anymore real to me.
Okay, again you're making the same mistake as before. Ishmael is a work of fiction. I didn't say people shouldn't listen to it, I said it shouldn't be taken as factual when it's not. Also, bringing the bible into this is a mistake. For one thing I, along with many people, are not religious and don't use a book like that to help determine how we think or act. From that standpoint I could say it's fiction, but that opens up a can of worms that goes a bit too far off topic here so I'm going to leave it at that.
And who said I'm trying to convince someone of something? I intentionally stated that I understand people's ways of thinking for the purpose that I would not be coming off that I want to change anyone. My intentions are not to change, but possibly enlighten. If you don't wish to listen to my "enlightenment" then don't listen to it. I, honestly, enjoy hearing other's opinions and like being "enlightened".
And who's to say that my purpose is not the same? Obviously we do not agree, but if I wish to counter with what I think in an attempt to possible enlighten you, you certainly don't have to listen to it. But it is my opinion and just as you are entitled to yours, I am entitled to mine.
What I'm really getting at, is that one life isn't superior to another one. If you kill a bug it is still killing a life. A life is a life, in my opinion.
That's straightforward enough. I don't really agree with it, but it's still to the point.
If your thoughts differ..please do tell :]
You know, that is what I did with my last post. Just saying.
I'm not sure which Bible you are referring to here and exactly how you think it's applicable, but I have to tell you. There is no book of Ishmael in the Bible. Sorry. There's a character NAMED Ishmael in the Bible but he didn't get a book named after him.
I believe they are referring to this Raiha: Ishmael It's just a work of fiction.
  15.
Yes, I understand where you're coming from. But as you said, "when you call someone (say, a murderer) an animal, you don't mean to imply that they're a human being. You say it because they savagely murdered someone else as cruelly as in the animal kingdom." Are humans exempt from being part of the animal kingdom? You agree that we are animals, correct?
When you say someone is an animal, it implies that they have willingly cast aside their humanity. That part of them that tells them that murder or rather killing, that isn't necessary for survival, is wrong. Arguing over the exactly biological nature of how living creatures are structured is fundamentally flawed and I'll explain why in a moment.
But I honestly can say that I believe other animals (and plants for that matter, but thats for another time) are capeable of complex emotions and attachments the same way humans are. And maybe it's not the animals who can't talk to us, but us who can't talk to the animals.? Native Americans used to communicate with the Earth and somehow in the formation of society many of us have lost the ability to do this and I believe this is why we feel we are superior, we're absorbed in our power over all other living things and continue to be power hungry.
This is why your argument is flawed, you first make the point that we are all animals and then turn around and try to claim that they are no different. And yet scientific research points to animals not having the same mental capacity or ability that humans do. What I see here is you attempting to give basic and more primitive reactions, by animals, to the world around them, a romanticized slant that stems from your own desire to believe that animals are no different from people. You're going to have to do better than folk lore and sweeping statements if you wish to convince people. Also your assumption that humans are power hungry for having the ability to see that difference, is also an assumption. Power has nothing to do with it. They are not the same, pretty basic and easy to see. A bear, like in your first example, does not feel remorse or have morals over killing another bear. It's most often a case of survival. There's just no comparison at all.
Edit: The book Ishmael[/U'] is highly enlightening on this subject if you're interested.
And here's another problem with the argument, you're suggesting that we read a book that is work of fiction offering positive solutions to global problems. It is by no means factual in any sense of the word. It is a story of hope perhaps, but still fiction. The problem with this is fiction, as stated in the dictionary, is an imaginary thing or event, postulated for the purposes of argument or explanation. It might make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside to read it, but it's not a true story or factual and shouldn't be taken as such.
  16. If you joined theOtaku before March 08, just log in here: myOtaku and on the left side under my account, chose edit profile. The first option will say off or on. Select on and at the bottom click on edit my options/profile. That should do the trick for you. If you want to change your password, you'll need to log into theOtaku and then choose backroom. There are two tiers of options, the second layer says Dashboard > Post > Worlds > Profile > Account The option to change your password is in the drop down menu under Account. All changes to your account are done at theOtaku now since myOtaku has become an archived blogging system that has limited customization for those who were members before the upgrade. So other than to turn it off, change the layout and post, you can't do the other stuff there anymore. And since this is looking more for assistance, I'm going to move this to the Information Kiosk once I'm done here.
  17. *facepalms at the love shack nominations* Anyway, here's the few things I wanted to add to the list. What is it? Version Vibrant Why is it nifty? Because not only did it revitalize theOtaku with a spiffy new layout and lots of new features that were added once it was launched, but OtakuBoards finally got a nice nifty link on the main page. What is it? theOtaku Chat Why is it nifty? Because both theOtaku and OtakuBoards members hang out there. Not only did you meet lots of people but it resulted in theOtaku members visiting OtakuBoards. Over all the chats are often utterly insane and just great fun for everyone. Who is it? Monark & chibi-master Why are they nifty? They’re like the newest hyper duo running around the boards posting. Watching them in action is not only fun but inspiring since you wonder just where they get the energy from. What is it? Nathan & Indi getting engaged Why is it nifty? Because not only was the news awesome in its own right, having a thread in all caps was funny. Also, getting to see Allamorph be a Desbreko Fanboy for a week as a result was hilarious. Who is it? TimeChaser Why are they nifty? For creating the Watercooler, a world for basically spamming with fun and silly stuff. They've also been a great contributor to various discussions in The Lounge.
  18.
Do you enjoy prequels? What prequels have made you forget that you KNOW which characters survive and what they do, but you just can't think of that since you're so engrossed in the current movie.
Not really. I didn't mind them at first, but after a while you just get sick of seeing them. I've yet to watch one where I got pulled in enough to forget what would happen in the original so to speak. I think the only exception has been some games, if only because some of them though in the same universe, literally did not deal with any of the characters in the one it's a prequel too.
  19. Juste toyed with the invitation his parents had sent to him. He had heard of the upcoming wedding since the Priestess Waltier was performing the ceremony and he had been assigned to accompany her again. He had just forgotten that his family would be invited to the affair anyway. His parents might not bother to keep up with the others, but it didn?t stop them from still receiving various invitations for social events. And if he remembered correctly, Cole Dreadnaught was a friend of his mother?s brother Oliver. And naturally she had sent it to him, along with a gift to deliver. Which was her way of saying that she would not be attending. Juste ignored the surroundings as he approached the ramp leading up to the Alaina where the ceremony would be held. He was wearing a slightly nicer version of his cleric outfit. It was virtually identical to the everyday tunic and trousers he normally wore. The only difference was that the light blue material was a softer weave, and the trim and buttons had the symbol of the phoenix on them instead of the usual plain material. He paused to make sure he had a firm grip on the present before heading up the ramp. The concierge gave him an odd look, which didn?t surprise him since the Priestess Waltier had already arrived hours ago. Juste just held out his invitation. ?Welcome aboard the Alaina,? he finally replied. ?If you?ll allow me to take your package for you?? ?Of course.? Juste was only too glad to get rid of it. ?Where might I find the other guests?? ?They?ll be on the second deck sir.? ?Thanks.? He nodded and then made his way past the man and into the ship. Since the Priestess would most likely be preparing for the event, something that he would not be involved in, he was free to do as he pleased. If she had required his aide, she would have told him already. He immediately noticed that the air ship was far more luxurious than anything he had ever traveled on. It was, by church standards, rather gaudy and overdone. He put it out of mind though, that sort of thing had no place at a wedding. With the help of a few others he finally found his way to what had to be the second deck. He couldn?t remember the last time he met any of his cousins. I wonder if I?ll even recognize any of them.
  20.
Yeah, the Obamessiah phenomenon is certainly not exclusive to the United States. Almost the whole world has gone all gooey and puppy dog-eyed.
So I've noticed. And honestly, it has me looking at other countries and going... wtf? I suppose the one good thing is perhaps it will give him a little more time before the honeymoon as they put it is over. I just hope he makes good use of that time. =P
  21. Agreeing with the majority here, simple shows of affection are fine, anything else should be private. I don't really see it as bragging either. Mainly because those who do it for that reason don't represent the entire dating/married population. =P
  22. I see all of this as media hype and people showing off more than an indication that they honestly believe change would happen that quickly. Mind you I'm going from my own stance and my friends who voted for the guy. Not one of us thought that the moment he got into office, things would suddenly get better. I fully expect things to take time because they always do. And like it's been said, so long as he genuinely works hard I don't have a problem with it. As for being looked down on, what president isn't by at least some part of the population? I've still got republican friends carrying on as if the world is coming to an end. So yeah.
  23.
You're kidding, right? I thought they'd only had a couple campaigns!:animedepr
They've always got some sort of campaign going on. PETA Just scroll down a bit and take a look. Sometimes they have a decent one, but as of late, they're just downright stupid like the sea kittens deal. EDIT: Before I forget, here's an example of another whacked out idea done by PETA... Veggie love. The only good thing you can say is that checking out their site and forums is good for a laugh. Though usually it takes little time for me to just shake my head and leave.
  24.
By far! Hey, is anyone else wondering when a PETA spokesperson will announce "It was all a big joke!"? Because I'm having a pretty hard time believing these people can actually be this stupid.
Nope, because they are that stupid. o_O They've been going downhill with campaigns that make no sense for a while now.
  25.
Yeah, but think of all the fun we'd've missed if he'd just gone by the book Rach. Really someone in politics admit that they didn't do anything wrong? Personally I was waiting for him to do a cute Nixon impression and I feel a little let down.
Oh I know. It didn't do him any good though. Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich thrown out of office The circus is over. About time too.
