>_> This explains a lot.

I thought about using my real name Darren, but that's always taken anyway so I chose to go with the name of one of my favorite composers. Sergei Rachmaninoff. I didn't bother to see if the character limit here would allow the full name, I just went with the last name. The first one wouldn't make sense without it.

↑ You should totally post that in the lolmembers thread Crystia... as yourself. =P And while you're at it, add this one with your name too. lol
And people remember my 'nickname' more often than my real name. It fits a lot better with just... me. Vicky is odd and boring. The only reason I haven't changed on here is because people would probably forget who I was - that, and, I'm lazy.
By the time I heard the 'goat' deal. I already had you down in my mind as Vicky. So every time that pops up, I still think... what the heck? =P
Under such circumstances, I'm not really sure how anyone can honestly blame American citizens in any sense. People who take this position often use really vague justifications for it, like "we elected our government so we are responsible for what they do overseas". Yet nobody can point to any overseas action that could possibly justify this kind of retaliation. Regularly the 2003 Iraq war is mentioned, yet this happened well after September 11th, 2001. So it obviously isn't even relevant to the causes of those attacks.
I agree completely. It's too easy to look at our faults (every nation has them) and say this is why. I ran into a comment on a video of a girl who was upset that the car her father gave her was the wrong color. The person who left the comment was declaring that she and others like her was why it happened. That kind of reasoning just reeks of total ignorance. It's always a good idea to know or at the very least look into the cause before you open your mouth and essentially insert your foot. But sadly a lot of people do that, instead of thinking. It's part of what gets me and my friends so angry when people bash 9/11. They open their mouths and the ignorance is just irritating as hell. You know they're just bashing to bash instead of objectively looking at what happened. What's really sad, is many of them actually believe the tripe they're passing along.

I got a good laugh out of these two. Mostly the first one. =P

Something a little different this time around.

You know what would be fun... go back and edit your post and format the "taste the rainbow" so each letter is a different color. =P For some reason I just think that would be hilarious.
Well you did ask what people were thinking didn't you? Not trying to start with anyone nor do I agree with what Gelgoog Pilot is saying- I'm just playing devil's advocate here. I don't think it's fair to say that we had it coming, but it is fair to say that we've been trying to play the world's police for too long and someone got fed up with it. It's just a shame that so many people had to lose their lives so needlessly.
Yes she did, on the day it happened, their initial reaction to the event itself, not what they thought once the shock was over. If someone's reaction was to think that, then they would have done well to notice the last part in the opening post about honoring the dead. Taking pot shots saying we had it coming isn't the way to honor anyone. Anyway, if anyone wants to get into the politics behind that, and I'm looking at everyone, start another thread on it and leave that out of this one please. As for myself... I was visiting friends in California at the time. I remember 9/11 for the simple reason I was suppose to fly home from Southern California to Utah on the 12th and naturally my flight along with everyone else's was grounded until a little while later. I remember feeling really surprised. Not that such things happen, but it was the first time something like this had affected my life in any manner. I finally got home once flights were allowed again, and fortunately I have no relatives or friends living in that part of the US. I still feel bad for those who did lose loved ones to the tragedy. It's something I know I'll never forget either.

I didn't find your initial stance of pro-choice yet not pro-abortion confusing at all ChibiHorsewoman. However I have friends who are the same way so I knew what you meant. They don't agree with abortion, but they don't agree with taking that choice away from the woman. Anyway, on the topic in general, I think the concept of abstinence only education is doing kids a disservice. If they really understood what could happen with STD's and other problems with having sex that wasn't safe, it would probably reduce the teen pregnancies around here. I would be fine with that kind of education only, if parents were willing to step up and fill the gaps. However, I don't see that happening. Admittedly I can only go on how my own parents were too chicken to explain and the parents of many of my friends were the same. Still, I'm all for having kids be fully informed about their choices instead of finding out the hard way they should have used a condom or simply not had sex to begin with.

I didn't bother to really follow it since I don't consider it a serious issue or actual threat to the stability of our planet. There are a number of reasons why and I think this article here states it best: Article in full I'll quote the parts I consider relevant.
the media conveniently downplay, or even omit, giving the full picture. First of all, mother nature can produce subatomic particles of greater energy than the puny LHC in the form of cosmic rays. These high-energy particles, which are accelerated to astronomical energies by huge magnetic and electric fields in space, have been raining down on Earth for billions of years, plenty of time to swallow up the planet - yet we are still here to write about it. Secondly, these mini black holes are not just small black holes; they are actually subatomic in size, comparable to electrons or protons. The entire energy created by these particles would not even light up a light bulb if the LHC were running for a hundred years. Although the subatomic particles produced by the LHC can have trillions of electron volts, the LHC is expected, at best, to create mini black holes at the rate of one per second, which is much too small to cause any appreciable danger to anyone. //snip// Thirdly, these mini black holes are unstable, and quickly decay. Instead of gobbling up matter and becoming big enough to eat up the Earth, they go in the opposite direction, emitting radiation so that they eventually disappear into nothing, a process proposed by the renowned Cambridge physicist, Stephen Hawking. So these subatomic black holes naturally self-destruct.
I'm going to trust that those who understand physics far better than I do, actually know what they are talking about. That and I find it hard to believe that with our limited understanding or rather capacity to create these collisions. I just don't see them as actually being powerful enough to really do all that much.

I'm going to vote for Cat. Their entry makes me think of a teacher who has reached that point of turning the mirror students see of themselves into a window where they see beyond themselves. I don't know if that was their intent, but that's the impression I get from it. So I vote for Cat.

What was the most disgusting thing you've tasted?
Rachmaninoff replied to Lunar's topic in General Discussion
When I was in a car accident several years ago and had to have surgery on my leg... there was some medicine I had to take that was just utterly vile. I don't remember what it was called, but I do remember how that nasty taste took forever to get rid of. I remember feeling the urge to gag and throw up every time I had to take it. -
Welcome to OtakuBoards amber.schneider, I'm going to close this for a couple of reasons. One it's in the wrong section since we have one for anime related threads, you can find that here: Anime Central and two, it doesn't really get off to a good start. It really helps to tell people a bit about why you yourself think having a fan club would be fun and what you'd like to see. I suggest you take a brief look at this: Anime Central Guidelines as well as the current threads in that area to get a feel for creating a thread. For example, what are you hoping to get out of creating a fan club? It helps if you give people some direction other than "talk about anything" If you have any questions feel free to pm any of the moderators here at OtakuBoards.

My name is Darren and while I was growing up, I never really seemed to get nicknames like others did. Or the few that got tried out never stuck so I don't really remember any. Around here though people have taken to referring to me as Rach. Which is fine by me. Some of my friends who are members here even slip up and refer to me as that in real life from time to time. =P *pokes Crystia and Beth*
Someone tried drawing his ideal sex mate while smoking crack late one night and it leaked out somehow.
Sounds about right. =P However, in all honesty, it's a toy. And if I'm going to try and point fingers for something messing with the way kids see themselves. I'd be more inclined to look at the parents and what they do when it comes to teaching them about not taking things like silly dolls seriously. If someone really thinks it's giving the wrong impression, then why do they buy them and give them to their kids? In the end, it's just a toy. And blaming a toy for something like poor self esteem seems as pointless as blaming video games for violence. :/

From what Crystia tells me, I understand this is you in the morning Gavin, until you've had a chance to wake up that is. =P Gavin

Funtime Thread of Humor and Mirth (and Junk.)
Rachmaninoff replied to The Spectacular Professor's topic in General Discussion
Nice one Allamorph. =P Now since this is a dog and not a cat... I present the attack of the Aaryanna's! -
EDIT: A little delayed, but I finally got that up. Oh and though I already told you via AIM, very nifty idea with the base Allamorph. Just as I enjoyed the bit with the transport door for the ship earlier.
Well seeing that I was slow to get mine up... >_> I don't think anyone is going to complain, I know I won't. Anyway, I agree with Kathy, the base setup was pretty damn sweet. I also got the impression that it was set up so Jared couldn't tell he actually walked through a transport door several times. That was nicely done. =P

?There is no neutral ground? that was what he had said. It was easy for him to say it of course; he had chosen where he stood. The Commander of the ship Darren was on worked for the New Alliance or rather the Resistance had chosen to support them. It was always easy for those who believe in one side to declare that there wasn?t a middle ground. The truth was that both sides were trying to force their views on everyone else. Darren sighed. It didn?t matter anymore. Neither one would ever leave him alone; reading what had been on the handheld computer proved that. They could lie and pretend they were giving him a choice, but he knew better. It was no different than before. He already knew what he would do. There could be no other reason for The Commander to have given him that information. They would have his cooperation whether he wanted to or not. It didn?t matter if the actual information he had been given was true or not, he couldn?t take that kind of risk, even if they claimed nothing would happen. Supposedly nothing would beyond being detained until the end of the current civil war, but the thought just made him snort in disgust. If that were true they would have not bothered to deliberately give him some of the information that they had. The door to his cell opened but he did not bother to get up off the bed or to look up, he knew who it would be. ?Have you made up your mind?? It was of course the Commander of the ship he was on. ?I accept your terms.? Darren replied flatly. He kept his gaze on the far wall. ?You realize the responsiblity and possibly consequences if you do that correct?? ?I understand what can happen no matter what I do.? He said dully. Part of him wanted to argue over it, but he was too tired to care anymore. ?And you?re fine with being required to wear temporary restraints limiting your movements and access in the ship?? The Commander prompted. ?I am.? He still did not turn to look at him. ?Use whatever you want.? ?Look at me and answer that again.? The Commander said flatly. Darren sighed and turned to face him, meeting his gaze. ?I?m fine with the terms you have specified. That includes the use of disruptor restraints to limit where I can go on the ship. There is nothing in there that I object to.? ?Nothing?? Darren grimaced slightly. ?If you?re looking for me to object, then you?re wasting your time. I doubt you?ll let me go my way so therefore I accept your terms.? He sighed. ?I?m tired of arguing with you and I don?t want to discuss it either. I?ll abide by what you?ve outlined so what more do you want?? The man stared at him for a long moment before he finally nodded. ?Alright, someone will come for you later then. Once that is taken care of, you?ll be debriefed on what you?ll be expected to do.? Darren picked up the handheld computer off the bed and tossed it to the Versilan standing next to the door. The man caught it and with a tiny nod, turned and left the cell. Darren stayed put and went back to thinking about what he had just done. He had planned on not doing it but things had changed. He only had one real question now, and that was to wonder if she really was in the sector. If she was, had she really come willingly? And if so, just what the hell had she been thinking?
I wonder if this movie will have a balance of the crazy 'splosions and the mind games. I hope so.
That's what I was just wondering after watching the trailer. If it's a good balance between the two then I think it will be fun. It certainly looks interesting enough that I'll probably go and see it when it comes out.

Maybe I should stuff this in the lolmembers thread. Because I could so see Indi actually doing it to someone. =P

Right now I'm listening to this piece here: Jesus, Joy of Man's Desiring Bach Harp Music Wedding A little different from the usual orchestral take I hear of this piece. It's still pretty to listen to so if you like the harp, take a moment to listen to it.
