About once a month I like to make bacon, tomato and lettuce sandwiches. Since I don't have it very often, it's always really good. The rest of the time I don't eat it though. It's just too greasy to have very often.

Music is what I like the best for relieving stress. The only thing that changes is the type of music depending on what the cause of the stress is. It's almost always classical though since I'm not a big fan of other types of music. If the stress is from someone annoying the hell out of me, then violent video games does the trick. =P

The problem James is that those politicians who push the laws through, are themselves against making the slate more balanced and equal for gays. Part of the biggest problem is getting officials elected into office who actually will pass laws allowing marriage among other things, let alone end the ban in the military. It's a constant fight to keep those kind of people out of office. Saying religion should be seperate and putting someone in office who won't vote or pass laws based on their religious beliefs is two different things altogether. It's a real pain in the butt to deal with this kind of BS, but we do. The fact that these guys get away with passing laws to ban gay marriage irritates me to no end. I fight it whenever I can, but like Beth was saying... whether or not it's wrong, it's not something those of us who disagree can just instantly fix. It doesn't mean we won't quit trying though.
It also begs the question of whether test scores accurately reflect learning.
Naturally. My impression, based on what I've seen, is that it depends on the student.

Broken record time... it's called rebound. Don't do it, give yourself time to get your own feelings sorted before you go and get them tangled up in a new relationship. It really is a good idea to give yourself space between relationships so you don't jump into one for all the wrong reasons. Like thinking it will cure your depression. That's the wrong reason and a big mistake since it doesn't work.
-
Are you sure you should even be in a relationship if you're already wishing you could have someone else instead? Sounds to me like you're not ready for it. Or at the very least as James said, keep it in the pants and leave C to friendship only. You play them both like the others have suggested and you're likely to lose both.

It looks like someone finds her intriguing since he merely countered her instead of killing her. It's a pity she doesn't realize that her clan is now gone. Though who knows? Perhaps that's a good thing since they did seal her in the ice after all. =P
Perhaps I am thinking too much.
I find this line in the whole thing rather ironic. Because when you consider how many memories that place holds for him, it's nothing more than just a brief glimpse into all the time spent there. The whole thing has a poignantly sad reminiscing feel to it that is well expressed.
In short, no it didn't feel like Aaryanna because it wasn't Aaryanna. I appreciate that.
I'll agree with that because otherwise a knife wielding Aaryanna is more than a little creepy. XP Anyway, it had a more surreal feeling to it than your other stories have. It was like everyone was insane. Which would explain why everyone went after each other like that. o_O

I agree with Indi on this one actually, it's not about making you smarter but more about not giving up when you don't do well.
Regarding self-esteem vs. academic success, I think the point raised by the article is this: If higher self-esteem doesn't raise the scores, why focus on it in school?
I think another equally important question would be, if they didn't focus on it or at least try to keep kids from quitting, would the scores go down? So perhaps they're looking at the wrong angle to this whole deal. Not that it makes them any smarter, but that they learn more because they don't quit and drop out.

You can always argue that something else is worse. I think the point was that none of us are doctors so to confidently say legals drugs are worse is inaccurate. Plus that argument isn't a good reason to justify or overlook illegal drug use in the first place. So in the end, I'd avoid doing it in the first place. Like Allamorph said in regards to music. You might think it makes you better and more creative, but it doesn't. I've seen first hand those stupid college students who get into drugs to "improve their music" and all that happens is it gets worse instead of better. I've seen a number crash and burn their way out of getting their degrees that way too. Plus plenty of musicians and bands that were actually doing well, tanked their careers by getting into drugs. So don't listen to your friend. I would recommend trying to be a bit more civil in your responses though. That's more likely to have them ignoring your advice than actually listening to it.
Usually the moment I realize something is a reality show is the moment I switch the channel and watch something that actually is entertaining instead of just painfully stupid.
I do the same thing actually. Those kind of shows lose their entertainment value very quickly in my opinion. After a while, it just makes me cringe to watch what people will do - all in the name of getting on TV. XP

So that's what you call it? =P I have seen people like that, the ones who get all flushed with just about any amount of alcohol in their system. Though it doesn't seem to be limited to just Asians.

She continues to be quite the little monster that Linnett. Instantly lashing out at anyone who dares to look at her in a cross manner. It's a wonder she still lives instead of simply being dealt with. XP Though I'm sure you have a reason as to why she was permitted to live. =P

Knows that Kagami is freaked out by certain types of manga's like yaoi. =P

No clothes... o_O This is definitely interesting even if the name throws me for a loop at times. XP Still as Allamorph pointed out in the first chapter, nothing like giving yourself the 'bitch' slap. lol

I'm going to just simply say follow what SunfallE said and talk to someone who actually has a clue what they are talking about. They'll be able to let you know what your options are and actually know what kind of help you can get if you need it. None of us know what we are talking about, other than perhaps the few who are parents who have commented.
There's one here in SLC in October that I plan on going to. Well provided I'm actually in town that weekend, I'm not sure on that yet. I'm looking forward to it since it will the first anime convention I've ever attended. :catgirl:
I'll probably go to the same one. That's where I met SunfallE last year after all. =P It was my first convention I ever went to as well. It wasn't a huge deal, but it was still fun just the same. I just hope there isn't a concert for that weekend since the date might be changed with it being so close to Halloween. Though I'll still stop in during the day if that's the case.

I think Sara wins the create a banner square hands down. =P Anyway, interesting idea Shy, though I wonder if we should have this as an event instead of a thread in the Lounge. Scratch that I checked with James and you Shy so this is now an event and I'm moving it over to the appropriate section.

Funtime Thread of Humor and Mirth (and Junk.)
Rachmaninoff replied to The Spectacular Professor's topic in General Discussion
Now this may have been put up before, but I'm too lazy to search the entire thread to see. But I think Gavin needs to see this if he hasn't already. =P So it needs to go up whether it's been posted before or not. -
As far as I am concerned, TV as a whole is over-rated and utterly worthless. Aside from the news, it is almost all nonsense or stupidityfests.
Can't say I agree with that. There are plenty of silly and fun shows out there worth watching. I do agree that there is a lot of junk shows, but still, plenty of good ones to be found among all that too.

I agree about Gavrie, he just sailed in there and literally beheaded four of them within a few seconds no less. o_O I actually read that part twice to make sure I got that right. In a battle like that I can see how such a lethal attack would work best but... ouch. He was rather vicious, taking out nine of them so quickly like that. I think poor Alex's eyes would have popped out if he saw that. lol Anyway, I have posted, finally. I meant to get further than them getting past the gate but it didn't quite work out that way, so whoever wants to take a shot at it next, feel free. *looks at Allamorph* =P

You Won?t See Me Coming Alex wasn?t surprised when the others returned and the discussion starting swaying in favor of actually taking care of the vampires, or rather in favor of getting in there to get more information. That was his first instinct, to deal with them, once he got over the desire to run that is. Training or not, he still felt uneasy at the idea of facing any vampires. He was learning a lot from Nathan, but he knew he was far from being able to fight like he could. Alex hadn?t realized that he had sighed a bit until Nall spoke. ?It?s not like you?ll be alone this time you know.? His voice was only loud enough to carry to Alex from where he was sitting on his left shoulder. ?I know Nall; I can?t help but feel like I?m not ready though.? Nall snorted. ?The only way to know if you are is to try. Besides I?m sure Nathan wouldn?t agree to the idea if he really felt like it was too dangerous.? Alex nodded. ?True, I don?t see him as the type to take unnecessary risks.? ?Exactly, so quit worrying over it and just do your best.? He batted Alex with his paw before turning his attention back to what the group was doing. ?Fine,? Lucia was saying. ?If we?re going to go in there then give me a minute to record some of the footage for the surveillance system. That way I can insert a program that will loop the recording showing that there is no one there. They won?t even realize that the feed isn?t live anymore.? ?You can do that for all of them?? Phaidra was leaning over and looking at what Lucia was up to with her device. ?Yes.? Lucia replied without bothering to look up at her. She was too busy focusing on what she was doing in order to subvert the system. ?It?s not exactly the most advanced means of keeping watch of the grounds.? ?What do you mean?? ?Human technology is primitive,? Lucia answered her. ?What else would I mean?? ?Oh? right.? Though it was obvious that Phaidra didn?t completely understand Lucia and Alex just chuckled a bit to himself at the thought. He didn?t get Lucia or human technology either. He had no need to, though now he was wondering if perhaps he should have learned more. What Lucia had in mind would be handy for misleading them. Alex couldn?t help but think that it wouldn?t stop the vampires from actually being able to sense them. He was pretty sure that Sarvel?s ability to tell where they were was better, but at the same time he was still picking up on some of them. Only when they were closer to where they were hiding though and he certainly hoped they couldn?t sense his presence. He was certain that Nathan probably knew if they were too close or not. Yet another thing he needed to talk to him about. I wonder if there is a way to hide your own aura. ?You?re going to suggest the front gate aren?t you?? Isen?s expression was calm. Nathan grinned, ?Of course, the obvious route is more fun.? ?For you perhaps,? Chris folded her arms. ?You better not be thinking of making me the diversion for this.? Nathan shook his head. ?They might recognize you and miss ?people person? here would just glare at them.? He grinned even more when Lucia paused briefly to stare flatly at him before going back to what she was doing. ?I was thinking that Phaidra would be perfect.? ?Me?? Phaidra squeaked nervously. ?What kind of diversion are we talking about here anyway?? ?Someone needs to approach the gate so their attention will be elsewhere.? Nathan explained patiently. ?Chris and Alex will take care of the two guards and the rest of us will be close by.? ?Okay.? She answered hesitantly after thinking about it for a moment. ?What if they want to know why I?m here though?? ?Wing it.? ?The program is ready,? Lucia looked up. ?The longer it?s running, the sooner they will realize something is wrong. It would be best if we get into position before I start it.? ?Right, let?s get going then.?
Right now thoroughly digging Joe Satriani's Crystal Planet album, courtesy of Raiha, to whom I am now rather obliged.
That's nice stuff actually, so now it's what I'm listening too. I like Lights Of Heaven the best out of the two so far.
