I'm going to just say "Go California!" and let you all drown in your semantics.
Personally, I'd rather drown the thread if such a thing was possible. Not that I'm against gay marriage being legalized, but because the semantics bit going on in here is kind of getting old. Kind of like the AA bit, sure you can look at it today and think it's unnecessary, but it doesn't change the fact that even with racial segregation (which was highly discriminatory) being ended, that kind of stupidity of not letting someone into work or school based on race or other factors was a big problem. It isn't the best solution, but saying it wasn't necessary is a bit hasty in my opinion. The biggest difference here is that gays don't even have the right to be married yet (at least not for most of the US) so the discrimination is a bigger issue and more than just a stance that some view it as a problem. Some viewed open discrimination for jobs and education as a non-problem because it didn't affect them directly. But that didn't change the fact that it was a problem.
Patrick had better not be investigating Victor. It'll offend the poor man, and you saw what happened last time. :p
He'd have to actually know about him to be doing that and I'm pretty sure that Victor is an unknown at this point. That and I do kind of want Patrick to not end up dead. XP No it's something else that may or may not tie into the story later on.
O_O Ehh, sorta connecting? Whatever happened to the part where you get to know them, and not just how they taste? Egad.
That's what I was thinking when I first read this... Seriously. XP
High school relationships are lame anyways.
I wouldn't say they are lame... I would agree with the sentiment that most teens aren't really ready for a more serious relationship at that age though. So cut the ties and think twice before you get the idea or notion to feel someone up keitaro583. Getting to know them first does tend to help cut down on those kind of embarrassing situations after all.

I was about to ask you if this was before the events in Almagest until I saw that Audrey is a member of the crew. One question though, what happened to her eye patch? She get a new magi technology eye or something? Or is this suppose to not be connected or even in the same universe as Almagest? Oh and you do know that ratings are old news right? :p

I think this sums up what I think of that news Des. So... any other news besides what you linked too? I've been looking around but I haven't seen anything yet. EDIT: Also, I forgot to mention that one of my friends picked up the first disk to this with the English dub. As soon as they finish with it, I'm going to borrow it and check it out to see if they did a good job or not.

Speaking of pictures... Or in this case avatars, specifically Sabrina's. The rest of us Beth, after discussing it a bit, have decided that the saying on that doesn't really fit Sabrina at all. Now Lucia on the other hand... *ducks*

Hmmm, good thing I searched instead of creating a thread when I didn't see this in the directory. Anyway, time for a revival since not having a thread on Doctor Who... is unacceptable in my opinion, even though I came into the series a bit late since I didn't get introduced to it until the newer version came out with Christopher Eccleston as the doctor and then David Tennant, who I like the best out of the two. Don't get me wrong though, I liked Christopher Eccleston too. The thing I like best about this series is that unlike some other sci-fi shows it doesn't seem to be grounded in the military, like other sci-fi shows are. For example, Stargate, and that disaster known as Battle Star Galactica
soap opera would be more accurate
Anyway, it's always wonderfully zany and the way the main character never seems to take anything seriously (though it's clear he does) is just good fun to watch. I've seen season one and two and I'm planning on picking up season three. I know season four is currently running, but I hate skipping ahead in a show since you end up with things popping up that spoil previous episodes. So... who else is into this show? Well besides Beth since I already know she's a big Dr. Who geek. :p

March It carried on the wind through fields of soft gentle grass. A calming melody urging my feet to take that path; the warm sun poured down. There was a tiny hint of uncertainty a coldness felt yet not seen, until on top of the hill the view stretched out. War was coming.
Time to run.

This is assuming that gay people getting married is a problem.
Since when did your posting style turn into this: Trolling (upsetting people for personal entertainment) or baiting (saying things to lead a member into a confrontation) Instead of having your own real points to add to the discussion at hand? A lot of your posts (at least the ones in The Lounge) lately, have been nothing more than nitpicking others posts and making illogical statements like you just did. Because seriously, if gay people didn't have trouble getting married there wouldn't be any fight to get the laws changed to allow it. Honestly, if you're that bored or need entertainment that badly, try something besides sitting at a computer screen and trolling OB. You could even learn something from Raiha since even though she's often snarky/sarcastic as you can see here:
Congratulations. Now all homosexuals can be just as miserable as the rest of us poor straight people.
She still at leasts follows it up with what she thinks on the subject at hand as you can see here:
On the other hand, I argue semantically against gay marriage. Of course this is moderately meaningless because until the Supreme Court of the United States makes a ruling to this effect, it isn't the law of the land. Get married, but stay in California. Or Massachusetts.[/FONT']
Anyway, as for the actual topic, I have no issues with it at all. The fact that others feel so threatened by the idea of gays being married is what I find sad. It will be interesting to see whether or not it stays around or not since I'm sure that will be challenged.

I imagine that if the target is DB, you'll have more volunteers to do him in than you'd know what to do with Aceburner. I'll pass though since I'm sure others could do a much better job killing him than I ever could. That and Allamorph has just admitted that he is the one who issued the order so you already know who's truly responsible. And I just realized that his signature proves it... o_O He's ordering the killing of those souls who need to be added to...
Of course, I can't change your mind if you insist on believing I have insulted you specifically, but please notice that so far your only[/I'] response to my attempts to point out problems with such an interpretation has been to play up your (supposed) victimization. You are, as far as I read, basically saying that you won't take me seriously because I've said such nasty things (the idea being that hateful people have no good arguments to make). I only respond to this by noting that even if I'd said things a million times worse, even if I'd really intended a personal insult (when I did not), it wouldn't matter a bit to whether I was right or even whether or not I've said things worth considering.
She's not the only one who thought you were being condescending [I did as well even though I don't believe in God] she's just the one who's been the most vocal about it. Personally I think that wasn't your intent. However, online, one only has the text to go by instead of talking directly with the person. So you can stop calling it victimization since you're only driving the wedge even deeper my friend. All she's saying is that you called her a fool and a brute, it's not that hard to back up and be clear in your reasoning that, hey... that's not what I meant. Religion is a touchy subject and as such, wording is very important. You're never going to convince someone to openly discuss something if you're not willing to find neutral ground or fess up to being a bit abrasive. Don't expect others to approach it with the same level of what you might consider frankness. The moment you do that, you've moved into [pardon the vulgarity here] philosophical masturbation of the subject as you're unwilling to concede any point towards the other person who has a point to share. You're too busy focusing on what you see as important and dismissing what others see as important. [in this case clarifying what you are calling a fool] So really is it that hard to say... sorry, let me be more clear on that... I'm referring to the theory/concept not you directly. Honestly, that's not that hard to do at all.
But back to this. It appears that moral relativism has sunk it's claws firmly into the populace. Oh goodie.
I disagree, I think your mistaking an acceptance of knowing one has much to learn with moral relativism. I do not accept moral relativism especially on an individual level since such a system would be pointless. Morally, there are things I will not sway on, such as murder is wrong, stealing is wrong, etc. Those are things that I think should apply universally and not individually, regardless of religious beliefs. But when it comes to the existence of someone like God? Or course I'm going to be open about accepting that I could be wrong. I think a being like that does not exist, but the very nature of something like that makes proving it next to impossible. I'm not so arrogant as to claim God doesn't exist when just as one can't prove he does, I think I can't prove that he doesn't either.

I intend to vote Democratic in the elections for similar reasons as explained here:
America does not need the hypocritical "family values" ******** of the Republican Party. Jesus Christ did not accumulate wealth, Jesus Christ did not support warfare, Jesus Christ did not forget the poor and forsaken of Israel, Jesus Christ did not preach of ostracizing and punishing, through human means, individuals who did not listen to his teachings. None of that has anything in the least to do with Christianity, but rather with the bastardized, warped form of religion that the delusional majority of Americas follow. America does not need Republican naivety over health care or social security. America does not need another Republican round of deficit increases due to their idiotic dedication to tax cuts while continually assuring a gullible Republican voter base that, oh, trust me, we'll cut some spending here and everything will be alright. Barack Obama is a politician, has problems with Reverend Wright in the popular media, and is an imperfect man - but ideologically the Democratic Party does not have its head as far up its *** as the Republican Party does.
I don't have solid examples to give since I haven't followed along as closely as I could have. It's hard to feel any desire to even bother when you're in a state that just about always ends up going Republican, making you feel like your vote was wasted. I'll still show up and vote, but meh.
1. If you believe in God, why do you believe?
N/A
2. Why do you think others believe in God?
Most people I know are afraid of the idea that there isn't something beyond this life, so believing in God seems to be their way to eradicate that fear.
3. The most popular conflict between faith and reason is usually on the evolution/creationism controversy. What?s your take on the issue? Can science be compatible with belief? Do you accept evolutionary theory?
I don't know enough to really say, from what little I have read on the subject, I'm fine with the concept of evolution. It's not my final say on the matter since learning more is bound to change how I see it.
4. What do you think are the most compelling arguments to not believe in God? Or, what do you think are the greatest challenges to peoples? faith. for instance; some people think the existence of evil, in light of an all-powerful, all-good God, is a tough question that theologians don?t have a clear answer to and may lead people to non-belief
Compelling arguments? Nothing beyond the obvious that proving such a thing is in my mind, not really possible. If I were to argue that someone like God really existed, then evil comes about from free will instead of a failure on his part. But... I don't believe in God so that point is kind of irrelevant.
5. Do you think there is such thing as ?reasonable faith?? Or, do you think they are in conflict?
Meh, this is an area I know next to nothing about.
6. Lastly, if you believe in God. What evidence do you have in favor of your belief?
N/A

I don't remember how this image ended up in my folder for funny and wacky stuff, but it always makes me laugh a bit when I read it. Heh. I can think of a few times where, if the picture had been in my possession, I would have been tempted to actually use it.
certain incidents in the Panopticon come to mind, along with other's I have read that I am not a part of
:p -
Yet another piece by Rachmaninoff. This time his Prelude in G minor Performed by the creator himself since I find those versions the most fun to listen to.

Considering my career, I got singled out as a nerd all through High School. It never made a difference since usually those who were into that kind of heckling, weren't people I wanted to be friends with anyway. Now, it's never an issue since those groups in High School just don't exist on the same level in College. Or rather it's easy enough to attend school and never run into it, ever.
I can't remember whether or not I let you in on what's going to happen Darren, but if I didn't, you're most certainly right.
No you didn't, its just more of a feeling that I'm getting, though I'm not sure why.
These final posts have been great so far. I cannot wait to see the rest of them.
I agree, they've been a lot of fun to read. I'm terribly curious to see what Gavin was hinting at here though:
It should hopefully be ready by the weekend, unfortunately though, it's not going to be as "happy ending" as the others have been so far.
Since I'm getting the vibe that if he's covering Daedalus' funeral... we are all in for a very interesting post in that respect. Because I can't see him saying that just for the funeral aspect alone.
See, now I just feel like a jerk....
You mean you're not? *ducks*
kidding

But yeah, I would also classify the Poetry Contest as an event, so I am all for the idea of forum-specific-ness. :animesmil It might also give the Event Master a reason to post officially outside of this area; they could start stuff off and work with each area's moderators on overseeing and such necessary stuff, so they'd get involved too. I love how specific I was in that paragraph. :p
Seems to me that this area could be used as a means to get the word out for events like the Poetry Contest going on in the Anthology. Just as it could also be used to host major events like the Nifty Fifty or the Bermuda Triangle. It would be nice to possibly have a thread that is updated by say the Event Master with current events running on the boards, so members could request that their particular idea, if approved is advertised. Much like the coming attractions thread only in this case nothing would be posted unless said event was actually launched. It might also be a good idea to have say a committee of members who help the Event Master... so when a major event launches, they could be called on to help out. People could volunteer to be on a list just for that purpose.

Gaming Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
Rachmaninoff replied to Deathsite's topic in Noosphere

The game is absolutely gorgeous and captures Akira Toriyama's character designs well for the first time
A lot of people hated the first person battles of the previous titles. In this game, choices are made in first person, but the battle itself is fully animated in third person. Looks great.
TDungeons are large, but not needlessly mazelike. Their design makes more realworld sense than what is present in titles such as Shin Megami Tensei.
The battle system is very traditional, but fast paced. The addition of a new Skill system and the Psyche Up command add to the battles, as does the fact that enemy HP is slightly randomized.
The game has a full night/day cycle. It progresses at a slower rate than the past games, but you can stay at an Inn until evening if you wish. Some scenes, dialogue and so forth only occur at night.
In the US version, the music is fully orchestrated.
In the US version, major cutscenes have full voice overs. The Japanese version had none. The voices are great overall and suitably cartoony.
The menu system has been spruced up graphically and modernized for US release.
The game has an insane sense of scale and the world map and towns reflect this. In this sense, it's more reminiscent of Zelda than most other RPGs out there.
The main storyline is pretty basic fare, but the pacing is very good. The characters, in turn, are just fun and likable. They develop well over time.

That pretty much covers everything about this game that I really like. From the different skill paths you can take with each character to how the Dungeons aren't overly complicated, and yet big enough to feel like a challenge. To the music and different characters... it's all done in a way that just draws you in the further you go along. I've yet to find something that I don't like about the game, though I'm not that far into it yet. Still, unless it goes off the deep end somehow, I don't see that happening any time soon. So far my only regret about this game is that I didn't find it sooner, it's not often I find something like this that I instantly like.
